Megan West’s Scotland trip is not quite what she was expecting. Three days in and her lost luggage still hasn’t arrived, and she’s already decided her travel buddy, a co-worker she thought would be so easy to vacation with, is actually the most annoying person in the world outside of the hospital. When she stumbles upon a seriously handsome but really strange guy—who carries as sword at his hip!—she decides Scotland is not a good fit for her. If she had luggage, she’d pack it in and call it a day. Graeme Kinnear knows the witch from his time purposefully sent him forward to another century, though he isn’t exactly sure why. He strong-arms the first person he meets into helping him find his way home—without telling her the hardly credible truth, that he’s from the 14th century. The bonny lass is justly terrified but helping is in her nature so even though she thinks he’s daft, she’s soon introducing him to all the astonishing sights and sounds of the 21st century. After several weeks, when he senses a change in the air signifying the coming of witches, he instinctively takes hold of Megan’s hand. He wants to get back to his time, but he’s not ready to leave the beguiling lass behind. Undeniably, Megan’s vacation just got a lot more interesting. But then her modern life, which she judged as teetering between dull and pathetic, suddenly seems quite preferable to the war and strife into which they’re plunged. Megan is furious with Graeme, who had no right to drag her through time without asking. And now she faces the most important decision of her young does she want to return to her own time and never again know the sweet perfection of his kiss? Or is she brave enough to follow the hope in her heart?
Another excellent story added to this Highlander Time Traveling saga! I have been very eager for a time traveling story that brings the virile highlander out of medieval times and into the twenty first century - this story delivered and it was great! If you haven’t read any books from this series then I suggest starting with A Year of Days which you can get from subscribing to this author’s newsletter. Then you will get a little background prior to jumping into book one of the series, And Be My Love. Each story of the series brings together characters from previous books; However, each can be read as a standalone - I recommend reading in order.
So this is a time traveling series and as far as I know that concept is based on theory & fantasy - so be prepared to allow reality to take a backseat as you read about people finding their soulmate’s across the centuries that separate them. The author does a good job of walking you through each couple’s journey and I found myself easily enjoying the tales.
I mean who can say for certain that there aren’t bored fae creatures medaling in our destinies?!?
This book is much better than the one before it but the problem with Rebecca Ruger’s writing is that she draws out the build up to the relationship much longer than she should and then writes a whiplash ending. She fails at the slow burn and instead writes unnecessary storylines putting off the inevitable. I skimmed and skipped but would recommend. SEX SCENES - Yes, decent nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of heavy make out sessions before finally giving in.
While in every other book in this series the time traveler goes backward in time, this book takes the 14th century hero forward in time to the 21st century. The challenges are different and it sets the alpha hero back on his heels and makes him feel vulnerable and somewhat ineffective, which is not something we usually see in our Scottish heroes. The two main characters work through their confusion bit by bit while attempting to find a way for Graeme to return to his proper place and time, and the fish-out-of-water trope is amusing. But still I was anxious to see them return to the 14th century where Graeme could once again be his potent self.
These characters are mirror images of each other—simultaneously both opposite and the same. Graeme is physically lost and Megan is emotionally lost. Graeme is physically strong and Megan is mentally strong. Both want to find where they belong but have no idea how to get there. They're both stubbornly independent and their biggest struggle is learning how to get along.
Once returned to the 14th century things start falling into place. It was a long haul getting there but in the end it all feels right. The happy ending feels especially happy for this couple who had to traverse time to find each other, having their relationship facilitated by a meddlesome (but well meaning?) witch. At the end of this story we are introduced to the characters featured in the next book and I'm really interested in reading that story about the journalist who investigates the disappearance of the five women from the previous books. I expect the themes of the witches and the time travel to be wrapped up in a terrific way.
After a bit of a rough start, I came to enjoy this book very much. It took me a while to get into the story and the characters, but after that the plot flowed pretty well. Graeme's adaptation to the twenty first century is pretty funny in places, and his dedication to Megan is heartwarming. I found it a lot easier to like Graeme than Megan, her reactions sometimes are weird and exaggerated (especially since for most of the book she's not the one struggling to understand a totally different society). Only the Brave is book five in the Scottish Time-Travel Romance series by Rebecca Ruger. I didn't read any of the previous books and while, especially at the end, a lot of the characters from the other books make an appearance, I didn't feel like I was missing out all that much. Overall, Only the Brave is a nice time-travel romance and if you love the genre you will enjoy it for sure. I'm now very curious about the other books in the series and I intend to read them (in the proper order now) very soon.
I started out reading the first couldn't put them down and have now finished the fifth book. Good writing and likeable characters. The heroes are all tall good-looking virile men. The heroines all different and likeable. I hate to read time travels where the women are made stupid or constantly doing stupid stuff. But not with Rebecca Rugar's books. The first four the women travel back in Times, here he travels to our time. The bicycle scene is hilarious. You will be rooting for Gream and Megan! And I like how she brings all the characters from the different books together. Highly recommend. Although if you are looking for an accurate 1303 behavior that is not necessarily the case in the books but good all the same. Highly recommend.
The story of Graeme and Megan was interesting to read. Megan is a spitfire with the willpower and attitude of a warrior. Graeme truly IS a warrior and they are quite the pair. When Graeme meets Megan in the future, she wonders if he is involved in the cases of missing women as well as not believing he truly travelled several hundred years into the future. The adventures they have as she finds the truth about Graeme. This was a good book and I look forward to reading more from Rebecca Ruger.
So far the best in the series! I wasn’t sure if I would like the forward time travel, yet I did! The story pulled me in from the start! It had me laughing, biting my nails and I could not put it down! Ms. Ruger is an excellent story teller and this surpasses any I’ve read so far! Just like all her the others book, I didn’t want to see it end. This book will not disappoint!!!
I almost DNF’d when I got tired of waiting for them to go back in time and realized that it wouldn’t happen until the 75% mark, but I continued on anyway. 14th century Megan was an idiot. It’s a shame she dragged others down with her after her huge mistake occurred. I was so into hating on her that when she had her epiphany, I was like “eh”.
If you like highlander and their protective caring ways, you love the story. The characters are exactly what you would expect in a story about the Them. Having the extra Of being a Time travel story makes it more enjoyable. The author describes the characters in great detail where you can almost visualize them.
I was happy to see another entry in the series but this time with the Highland warrior coming to the 21st-century. Megan is a perfect heroine in this book, not only finding the Highlander and helping him, but dealing with all the other issues that arise. Looking forward to the next GEN series.
An excellent read, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the storyline was good. This series has been excellent and look forward to the next one. Rebecca Ruger your books never disappoint.
This one is a little different but still amazing. I loved this hero from the previous book. I hate when you love a secondary character but dont get enough of them. I was really excited I realized he was goi g to be the main character for this book.
Loved this book! How he was the one who traveled first, the way cars affected him. Great storyline and was really nice to get to read about the other girls! Can't wait for the next book!
Being an author, I still enjoy a good read! This books is the perfect twist of love, passion and time travel. I truly enjoyed this book and of course, I will track down all of this authors books.
I do like a time-travel story and this one was unique in that the male travels forward - at least initially. The first part of the book was entertaining, however, the second half was less engaging. For that reason I'm giving this one a 2.5 star rating.
I enjoyed this story Happy that gram got his happy ending But it was a little slow in the beginning it took a while to get into Love the ending I'm on to the next book and I hope it's good love a happy ending☺☺☺☺☺☺
Only the Brave: Far From Home: A Scottish Time Travel Romance, Book 5
Holly in the 14th century wants to go back to the 21st century. The witch wouldn’t but sent Graeme instead. Now he wants to go back to the 14th century. Megan helps him and she went to the 14th century with him.
This was a sweet, fun read. Megan was a bit dull at times, but I loved Graeme. Can’t wait to read the others in the series, especially the one that’s coming out next!
