I can see the author growing in how she plots out her stories. This was quite good and enjoyable. The only thing I'm not enjoyable is the dictionary of words used during the spicy scenes
Vanessa's story... most likely I shouldn't have read this book out of order but I like to read dangerously... Anyway, I kinda enjoyed reading it, I had some trouble at the beginning but after a while the story picked up.
This is the third book I've read by this author and I keep hoping the actual writing style would get better as the stories all have potential to be really good. The way this author writes has a very rough draft feel. The sentences don't flow smoothly and instead sound very disjointed. The plots are very rushed as the main focus of all these books are the alphas mating with their omegas. I will say some scenes are definitely hot, but the writing style takes away from the full potential they could have.
Vanessa, the pregnant second omega for the Royal Pack, escapes imprisonment from a dungeon where she’s supposed to be kept until they take the baby and then sell her at auction. She makes a new life far from the pack and dances at an adult club to support her young son, Gabe. Alpha Jack and his pack find Vanessa and he insists he must follow duty and return her to Howl’s Edge, despite the pack’s growing feelings for Vanessa and Gabe. But just when it seems there might be a way for Jack and his pack to make Vanessa their own, things go awry and Vanessa, the pack, and Gabe are separated. They’ll all have to be open to change and compromise as they work to find a way toward their HEA. Lots of drama, hot and steamy action, and Omegaverse goodness in this RH romance.
There is something off about layla sparks books. There is DEFINITELY no proof/beta reading going on,because these books are so filled with errors, redundancy, and inconsistencies that it ruins the reading experience. LS is either the worst writer ever, not a native english speaker,or an AI bot, because every book contains similar errors and situations. Inevitably, there is a loofah laden shower scene. Someone is refered to as creepy. Grey sweatpants abound. Butt hole is called dark hole. This book's "this CANNOT have been written by a human" line was "your large tit is so pretty." I wish i were lying. Speaking of tit(s),"boob(s)" is an unsexy word. It's a socially accepted way for a TODDLER to say "breasts". And yet it appears REPEATEDLY in every book, alomg with the equally toddlerific "tummy". Who is writing this stuff?!?! A childhood incident is revealed while adding nothing to the overall plot---just thrown in for the shock. The POV is overwhelmingly either vanessa or one of two guys.....not a lot of insight into the others. The guys didn't seem to mesh well, and the disharmony impacted my enjoyment of the tale. And how did vanessa end up with THREE SEPARATE packs totalling TEN men?!? Ultimately, these books COULD have so much potential, but the slovenly execution ruins it. My opinion only. Feel free to read and form your own. But don't say you weren't warned.
Romance trope: omegaverse Series: Howl's Edge Island: Omega for the Pack Length: 161 pages
Plot: Vanessa is an omega who was brought into the Royal Pack (despite them already having an image) and who got pregnant and then was tried and convicted as a traitor because of a plot against the princess. She managed to escape and has been living in the human world with her young son. She is discovered by a pack who then takes her back to her former home where she is captured and auctioned off to another pack. But the most pressing concern is her son, who has been taken by the Royal Pack. She will do anything to get him back.
Commentary: I think that this definitely can't be read out of order - I did and was missing too much. I could read it strictly as an omegaverse, but I had no idea about what happened with the princess or how the Royal Pack functioned or the auctions or anything like that. I felt like the combining of the two packs into one was a little messy - two of the alphas hated each other because of a bullying situation and there were so many men in the pack that I didn't bother to learn about all of them. Vanessa was a bit of an opportunist, and I'm not saying that was wrong, given her circumstances, but it made it difficult to connect with the supposed romance. The custody thing - it made it seem as though there hadn't been a whole kidnapping, and I don't believe that the pack could just bust into the palace and demand she get her son back or they would withdraw their support. Either the Royal Pack was so powerful they could do what they did, or they weren't.
I felt like the worldbuilding was messy and sporadic, and maybe that was because I hadn't read the other books.
Not my cup of tea. I had the feeling it was unfinished, like the plot needed more work and the writing style should probably be worked on,it felt rushed and rough. It definitely has potential, but just because I didn't like it, it doesn't mean it's not something someone else wouldn't enjoy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Betrayed by the Pack centers on Vanessa, a pregnant omega who escapes the royal pack only to be captured by Jack, an alpha from a rival clan. The chemistry between Vanessa and her captors adds heat to the narrative, but the plot feels somewhat recycled from earlier books. Still, it delivers satisfying steamy moments, emotional tension, and a rescue mission that adds excitement to the mix.
Vee did our princess dirty in the last book but had a nice redemption arc this book.
She escapes Howlers edge for 3 years with her son until she runs into Jack who is an alpha and takes her back because he wants to protect the omegas not realizing she will be auctioned off and her son taken from her. Him and his pack of 3 wants her as their omega but she wants to protect her son. And she runs away in the middle of night and her son gets taken. She goes right to the palace and gets taken herself. Sent to auctions. Jack is going to buy her but didn't get there in time. She gets bought by Alex's pack of 4 who lost their wife and daughter years prior. She just wants her son back from the royal palace. So she's constantly ploting to leave/hide her heat. Jack's pack ends up joining Alex's pack so now she's omega to 7 guys if I got it right 5 alphas, 2 deltas and a beta. It was a book of self growth and realizing she wasn't the villian in book 4 to be he villian that she she was just looking out for herself because no one had.
En la línea de los otros. Cada vez intenta ser más creativa con la historia y well, it does not work.
I enjoyed this, it was a good time but there were a couple things that knocked this down on my ratings.
This was another alpha/omega type book that I've read recently. I am still so confused with these kind of books. Are these PNR? Are these contemporary but with a pack structure? I have no idea. But they mention knots which is not a normal human thing, so is it really contemporary? I always go into these so confused.
Anyway, going into this, I expected a betrayal that would hit me in the feels, it didn't. Yes, she was betrayed by the pack but it was a pack I had zero connection to because I haven't read the previous books (don't know if that would even make a difference, or if this pack was even mentioned in the previous books). I felt eh about the whole betrayal part of it. So because I wanted a grovel type book at the time, this didn't satisfy that want.
As the book went on, I was really liking it. I didn't love the guys in the first pack she finds/finds her but I liked them. I really loved the second pack the best and got to really like the first pack that joined the second.
I was going to settle on a 4 star, if it wasn't for the heroine making so many stupid decisions. I could have dealt with one big mistake/one big stupid decision, I'm not going to knock a rating down for 1 of those. But she kept making them and this is a short book.
When the first pack comes across her, she is desperate to get away, valid response....but then even though she's so desperate to get away, she doesn't leave her house. She loses them briefly, says she needs to take her son and move again but then stays in the house and doesn't leave. Of course they find her.
Then she left the protection of that first pack, with her son, and her son is kidnapped to be brought back to his alpha father. During the course of the book she is separated from her son but her focus is constantly on getting him back. Her son is not in danger because is the son of another alpha but obviously she wants him back. Once both packs are aware of her son and the situation, they swear to help her but she goes into heat and that needs to be taken of first. Once it is, they move to a bigger home but the heroine can't wait anymore and can't even ask the group when they are getting her son or what the plan is, she just leaves and gets caught. Ugh!
It's these stupid decisions that just make me lower my rating every time. There was no reason, none, why she couldn't ask them to help or can they get on with the planning to save her son, absolutely none. They had just gone through her heat cycle and were moving to the bigger home but there hadn't been any indication that they weren't going to help her. It just really bugged me.
I don't think I'll read the others in this series. This was fine at the end of the day but I don't feel the need to read any of the others.

Three years after running away, pregnant from Howl's Edge Island Vanessa is discovered by an alpha (Jack), beta (Liam), and delta (Ryan) who work for the Royal pack. The life she has built for herself and her son is about to change. Jack, Liam, and Ryan have to return her back to the island. When she returns to the island, she encounters four alphas (Alex, Blade, Laurent, and Mason). She'll do anything to protect her son.
This is the fourth book in the Howl's Edge Island: Omega For The Pack series. It can be read as a standalone, but it is recommended that the previous books be in the series first. This is my first book by Layla Sparks. I enjoyed reading it. Even though it was a short book, it didn't feel rushed. Blade and Alex were my favorite.

I really tried hard to like it more, but for me? This fell short. I will say that I liked Jacks pack, but Alex and his? Not so much. He had a one track mind, breeding an omega. He bought her and yeah he let her know he was going to be breeding her, but he didn’t care about her feelings. I understand that he was going to wait to mark her , big deal. He was a lifelong bully and had bullied Jack, how he could remain alpha prime after getting his butt beat is surprising as he lost challenge Jack should have been prime. Then the old kings, pervert still wants to cheat on his omega. I can’t believe he backed down so very easily. Not too alpha. Anyway it wasn’t a bad book, just not good for me.
So I’m still confused by the scents, however all the other ones were fruit scented and Vanessa is cotton candy. I don’t really get it what’s next fucking Doctor pepper, I don’t really like the merging of the groups but it’s whatever also, why did not they kill her? Why did they sell her so they couldn’t kill her because she was an omega. Also, this time Amazon started me at the very very start of the book so I got to see the glossary and oh my God it makes more sense now so reviews don’t make sense because I’m just asking what the fuck is going on but still what the fuck is going on so they are werewolves I think anyway onto the next book
Book 4 in the series picking up where we left off in book 3 with Vanessa. This was interesting ride but a sweet one all the same. She’s got some trust issues and given what’s she’s been through since far, I don’t blame her. Seeing her trust her new pack was a beautiful sight to see, especially when they were all patient with her. And I could go on and on about this one but I suck at trying to keep spoilers out. It was lighter than the books prior, while there are mentions of dark pasts, the current storyline is relatively light. It’s giving found family and acceptance. Can’t wait to start the next one!
2.5 stars rounded down. At only 169 pages, a quick mostly fun, spicy read. For such a short story it drags until the middle and then picks up the pace. It's really just a quickie smutty romp, so there's not much to critique. No character development obviously, there is plot but no arch in it. The big bad conflict is resolved in 2 paragraphs.
For the mood readers: if you want something quick and spicy and you like omegaverse dynamics, this checks these trope boxes: virgin mmc, "she's mine" energy, instalust, determined fmc, breeding, conflict within the harem, all the omegaverse dynamics, and group play.
This writing is not good but I am going to keep coming back to this series because the books are short enough to power through. I cannot take a book seriously when want of the characters seriously says "Tasty Butt". I have just accepted the fact that this adult, or person prompting ChatGPT, is weird about butts. The cake scene decided that.
I feel like the completion of Vanessa's villain arc was kind of a let down. She literally almost got Lyra murdered in the last book, and now Lyra is like no worries cause you had a shitty childhood? The books in this series become very predictable but yet I keep coming back.

Literally need to bleach my eyes. Why did I read this?! Please don’t read this. Within the 156 pages of the book 99% of is was smut and 1% of it was the plot? Yeah the plot was flat and confusing and just boring. This book could’ve been better if it was stretched out and was written better.
I would give this zero stars if I could tbh.
Also fyi, my face looked like this for the whole book: 😟
AND there was so much creepy vibes in this book like I don’t even want to type it out cause it’s disgusting.
Why did I read this book? TikTok told me to. Will I ever read a TikTok book again? No.
Betrayed by The Pack is book four in the series Howl’s Edge Island: Omega For The Pack by author Layla Sparks. In this book you get the ending for one of the characters in the previous book. In the previous one she was made out to be an enemy- only we didn’t know her story then. It’s a sad one with many obstacles that follow her in this book. In the end maybe she’ll get her HEA. Enjoy!!
I was just going to skip over this book since she was a “villain” in the previous one. But of course Layla made me fall in love with her story. I wasn’t sure how it would all work out and several times I felt the “old” Vee was coming back. She is always going to be a little self focused but after knowing her background I can understand it. I’m glad I read it! Can’t wait for Jade’s happy ending. She deserves the world!
I'll be honest I started this book with disgust in my heart but my love for reading pushed me onward. After reading the previous books I've learned everything isn't what it seems that maybe she had a good reason…she didn't I still did not like her character at all she did not take accountability almost making it seems as if the queen was the bad guy. The rest was good just not Vanessa her story could of been skipped
You read of Vanessa in book 3, and by the end you are so mad at what she has done that you don't think she is worthy of redemption. I couldn't have been more wrong. She was able to redeem herself and fight for her child as any mother would, but all the while finding something she was missing, true love and understanding. This story was very well written and it was good to understand where Vanessa was coming from, although it doesn't excuse what she did, it made you more compassionate.
This book broke my heart and had me crying ugly tears. I don't agree with everything Vanessa did but can understand. But having your child stolen wrecked me. Jack snuck in and stole my heart. By the end of the book my heart was put back together better than before. That's what I call a HEA.

I thought the book was good, however, I think the King gave in too easily. Gabe seems like a great kid and smart. Reminds me of my 3 year old grandson. I like all the guys with all their differences and how it all ended.

49 pages in and I literally couldn't make myself go further. 32% of the book and we have gone from "I hate them" to "maybe they are ok" to "I hate them, but imma do the bossman then run away, where somehow the kid is taken without her noticing he stopped touching her? It's so so bad.
