Paradigm Shift #1

Paradigm Shift - Book 1

Rate this book
Imagine a world where women are called fems and have always been chattels with no rights at all. Not slaves, but pets, intelligent domestic animals. In the Britain of this parallel world, the only protection they have are the laws intended to prevent the mistreatment of pets, and the earnest efforts of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Fems (RSPCF). The concept of marriage has never existed in this world, except among some remote, primitive tribes.

Imagine a world filled with obedient, loving, pet fems, taxicabs pulled by fems, naked extreme fem boxing and wrestling, and fems performing just about every imaginable service for the pleasure and convenience of men. Selectively bred and always beautiful, fems provide every possible kind of sexual pleasure. Like all domesticated animals, obedience and loyalty are valued traits, while viciousness and unpredictability are ruthlessly stamped out. Fems are strictly forbidden by law to ever cover their genitals with clothing, so that no fem can ever pose as a man.

An uneasy balance exists between those who would treat fems as valuable, treasured creatures, like pedigree dogs or pure-bred horses, and those who would strip all protection from fems so that they can be ruthlessly exploited. Even the world's religions are split into factions on this matter.

But suddenly things come to a head because of a horrible massacre of male children, with the finger of blame pointed at a group of feral women. Hardliners clamour for a mass cull of fems in the area and the removal of legal protection from all fems. Feelings grow so strong that a civil war seems possible and even the first World Wide War that this world has ever experienced.

Parker Hammond is a man of our world, a divorced ex-police officer, who lost his career and his wife when his liking for sadistic sex was exposed by a muck-raking female journalist. He suddenly finds himself drawn into this alternate dimension and tasked to investigate the massacre. Follow Parker and his loyal pet fem Susan, as he fights to survive and find a new life in the world of Paradigm Shift.

Real, hardcore S&M erotica in the vein of books like Sadopaideia, A Man and A Maid, the novels of F.E.Campbell, and even the outright porn of the "Bizarre Library" series seems to have entirely died in today's market.

What we have is either BDSM "lifestyle" and Ds stories or "Erotica", basically bodice rippers with more sexual detail.

After going blind searching the bookstores and Internet for anything to suite my taste, I was driven to write my own. Stories with real, well researched plots and characters, but enough S&M action to work as stroke fiction if that's what the reader wants (needs?).

I'm a successful professional, so I know what the "real world" is like. I'm widely traveled and multilingual. I do nude photography and CGI art, so I know what naked women actually look like, and I have wielded a whip and used it on (willing) women from all over the world.

If you too are looking for something harder than just sexed up romance, take a look at my books. Note that NONE of my books fall under the category of "Erotic Romance".

And if you are looking for some interesting SF/Horror have a look at the book "Vampire-Tech" which is by me too.

I ought to put a caveat here. I spent years as a lifestyle slave, and was treated as a pet, so this entire book felt like coming home. I really liked Susan, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.

Characters. Lets talk about Susan and Parker, and Teena, and all the others. If there is any complaints I have with V. W.s work so far, its that there is always too many secondary characters, and no proper love interest for the main character. Susan clearly loved Parker, and was absolutely devoted to Parker, but this book was Parker/susan/teena/magma/other female/combat fem and its sort of sad. I really wanted to love Parker/susan, but they aren't really a couple.

Plot is interesting, there is the stranger in a strange land plot, and also the whodunnit plot, and both are good and interesting. I liked the whodunnit plot especially.

Sex/sadism/BDSM this was good stuff. The D/s was interesting, and the pet aspect was delicious. I loved it. There was, as I suspect may go through all of V. W. Singers work, a sadism aspect centered on Female Genital Torture, and it was also good. The only aspect I didnt like was the continuous need to de-emphasize the hero/heroines relationship!

The whole relationship between the hero and heroine is hot, but it could have been even hotter! I loved it, but, still!

So, this is 5 stars for hot sexy action, and awesome material, but I still wish it was more? Does that make sense? I dont even know.

Gimme more love between H and h.

Author's Comment
I have a soft spot for this particular creation of mine, and I thought I would say a (not so) few words about it.

First of all, the world is fairly unique in Erotic fiction. Yes there are lots of stories in which women are reduced to abject slavery, mindless breeders, or even food ala Dolcett. But in Paradigm Shift, the Fems (women) are none of these things. Although legally without rights, they participate fully in society at all levels, and with their sexuality fully recognised and accepted.

I wanted to explore such a society viewed through the eyes of a man of "our" world. What would he see, and how would he react?

The man, Parker Hammond, discovers that he is in fact on a mission to help these Fems and to clear them of an accusation of mass murder. More significantly, he is assigned a new "pet", a Fem who is to act as guide, valet, and protector in this strange new world.

The novel is largely an exploration of the relationship that develops between Hammond and Susan, his new pet, guide, and best friend. Will he fall in love with her? Can he, should he, when he has absolute control over her fate and commands her absolute obedience and she is taught since birth to be loyal to her owner.

And what about sex? At first glance it would seem like the male sex maniac's dream. But if all Fems are property, they they would have to be paid for just like anything else, and owners would not be pleased to have strangers meddling with their Fems. Does that mean that prostitution would still exist? If so, what forms would it take?

There will still be Fems who run away or are abandoned for one reason or another. What happens to them when the go "feral"?

Finally, there is the political dimension. In this world, there are those who largely wish to treat Fems humanely and kindly, just as we would want our household pets to be treated - which is often better than we treat other humans. There might even be an equivalent of PETA, militant Fem rights activists.

Then there is the other side, who see the Fems as livestock and only care about the profits to be made from using them and using them up, regardless of the suffering or death involved. Can there be a balance between the two, or can only one view survive?

Parker Hammond has to choose sides on all of these and more.

The advantage of a parallel world rather than a purely fantasy one, is that the author is free to explore the most outrageous possibilities while leading the reader through surroundings that are eerily familiar to our present or past.

Strange title. Interesting concept (sort of reminiscent of Carolyn Faulkner's books Tria and Prima). However this one has a bit more plot - other than just sex and pain. With that said I did not find it as engaging because I really couldn't relate at all to any of the characters. I found the sex pretty non arousing as well most of the time though there were exceptions.

This is THE book that made me discover V W Singer, and I have read a lot of Singer's novels since. Most of them are already lying in my Kindle after getting them on Amazon (that has the bad habbit of cancelling some of the best stories because of the content), and from BDSMBOOKS that has most of the good ones.

Basically, "Paradigm Shift" is actually a fantasy world where lots of technologies and sociological standards have been reshaped. This is sometimes a sharp change as compared to our current world, but I would LOVE to live in there. Singer makes it easy to adhere to the story even though the "paradigm" is really different.

I was just half-way of the book that I had already the sequels bought and downloaded on my ebook reader and I could not wait but know about the conclusion. The stories in the "paradigm" shift series each introduce some suspence and a criminal investigation.
I have to say that the one available in volume 1 of the series represents in itself a good incentive to discover Singer's universe, and can even justify to read the 3 volumes of the series thougth the end - even if you are not that much into BDSM as such.
Trust me, it's even better if you are into D/s Mf and some BDSM.

I'll start with, this is the third book I've read by Mr Singer, and it's my fave so far.

If you're an extreme feminist, this story might rub you the wrong way. It is basically a world, where women are seen as men's property. Oddly enough, that concept didn't bother me. Probably because the story focuses on Parker (the MC) and the way he treats the women is more M/s TPE, than oppressive. Parker also shows respect to all the women he encounters.

The story, and plot are good, and the concept of an alternate reality is interesting. Again, I hesitate to call this sci-fi, even though, by definition, that's what it is. I'm not really a sci-fi fan. Here, instead of an alternate world, it feels more like "what if". Although there are some nice gadgets. :) Another thing I admire in Mr Singer's books, the imaginative devices, there is a scene filled with them.

I immensely enjoyed the relationship between Parker and Susan.

Finding good erotica is an almost impossible task. Nearly every erotic novel I've read contains major flaws, and this one is no exception. As usual, the editing is pretty bad, and the main characters are flat. The sex is hot though, and if that's not what you want in erotica then I don't understand what you do want. This isn't a love story. It doesn't end with him and her and happily ever after, but it doesn't end badly either. It's basically a light-hearted romp through an alternate Earth with a mystery to be solved, bad guys to foil, and lots of willing women for our hero to fuck and own.
