Dig Deep! The Rangers Are About to Set It Off!What starts as a mission to control a key area of a city under siege becomes a relentless race against the clock for Ranger Team Leader Louis Campbell. One minute Lou and his team are fighting Saur infantry looking to stab them in the face, and the next he’s saddled with a bunch of dwarven sappers looking to breach the city's catacombs--or risk losing the city of Sûstagul to a tidal wave of undead.
The Under Roads are no simple tunnels, but these are no simple dwarves. Dispatched by the dwarven king and led by a dwarf known as the Ax Rider, they come prepared with cunning, modern weapons, and a bit of dwarven know-how. Aided by Lou's Ranger Team, they must negotiate the alien underground landscape to destroy their an engine of malevolent power known as the Underspire.
In the war for the Ruin, some battles must be fought in the dark!
This stand-alone novel is set between the events of Forgotten Ruin Books 6 & 7, but can be enjoyed without having read them. The Siege on Underspire takes you beneath the streets, to fight the battles you didn’t see coming. Grab your rifle and unsheathe your ax to join Louis and the dwarves in their bid to shatter the Underspire before it’s too late!
This is another part of The Fotgotten Ruin. Another Ranger company fights it’s it's way through a mystical time far in the future. This story is told by a man in charge of his own Ranger company. This brings memories of the old earth alongside fighting in what is called The Ruin. All types of creatures, many undead, are on the enemies side. How do you fight the undead? Well it can get complicated. I really enjoyed this perspective if The Ruin.
I went back and forth on this one as I had a hard time getting into the story. Mainly because the military sounded like gang bangers. But the fighting and characters were interesting. The dialogue drove me nuts though. Not sure if I will read more yet. So many modern gang slang just takes me out of the fantasy escape. It’s confusing.
Loved this new character! And I am very interested to see what comes from Lou & team in the future. The Under Road is a fantastic setting, full of secrets for future updates on Lou & his new gang. All the various Ruin-sponsored beasties who invaded are so much fun!
Vivid description lead to better & more exciting battle scenes that just Rocked! I recommend you at least read this book & then the rest of The Ruin series. I think waiting for Lou book number two is a hardship & a second book could lead to so many more.
SO much better without coffee-obsessed Talker. In fact, finish the series without him and I'll be happier.
Yes it's a side-quest book, but it's part of the bigger picture/main sequence campaign so it's still relevant. Louis Campbell is a much less annoying scribe, so I actually read all of this instead of repeatedly skipping ahead to something not meandering about coffee. Not a "must read" for Forgotten Ruin fans, but worth your time.
Like I says in the write up for this book you don’t need to have read the other books in Jason’s series to like this book it is great on its own. It does tie in well to the continuing story though and l really enjoyed making the drawfs a major part of this story. I can see this group being folded into the main storyline or continuing on their own storyline. Highly recommended.
This side book to the Forgotten Ruin series is fantastic. It is charged all the way through with action. The book is also hilarious from start to finish. As well as some very emotional heart felt moments. Of the entire series this is my favorite yet! Ya' feel me...
I really enjoyed thus "sidestep", especially the change of voice from Talker to this new Ranger. It will be interesting to see who else the Captain might tag as historians. Excellent job, Jason and Nick!
Couldn't put it down, thankfully it was my day off of work and able to read it in a single sitting. All of these books are fun and fast paced, highly recommend them! Fan of military or fantasy books this is a great mix of the two.
Another great read. I can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. The characters have a life of their own. One of the best series I've read to date. Keep them coming
Great Read! PERIOD! This series has quickly become my most favorite. Characters are outstanding, the writing is great, and they are just flat out entertaining books!
Enjoyed this very much. Wish there was more from the Forgotten Ruin world besides the stories of Sgt. Thor. While I like him there are others that need to be brought to the front as well. I Also like Talker/Walker and would love to see more of him. Lol a fellow coffee addict!
A very good read, with great characters and a great story. And my favorite Player Class finally. I enjoy the main series a lot, but I hope the War Journals continue.
