Four years after Livia Rossi fled Manhattan, she finally feels like she is making a life for herself away from her Uncle Michael's influence. When danger arises, he resigns himself to the fact that shielding Livia from his criminal underworld is no longer possible.

Dante Castellano is Michael's right-hand man. He never shies away from a job, until what begins as a precautionary surveillance mission soon turns into much more than he ever expected. He's kept an eye on Livia from afar, but it isn't until now that he really sees her for the first time. She's creative, beautiful, and there's a storm inside her that reminds him of himself. He's soon consumed by his allure to her, and his guilt toward his closest friend. When the stakes are raised, he's forced to decide what's more important; loyalty, or the woman he loves.

I just want to start off by saying, I love this book! It's so well written, and the author is obviously passionate about the story and the characters.

The writing style itself is a great hook into the book, which keeps you wanting more throughout. Often times, my biggest complaint about romance as a genre is that the female lead is forced into being so stubborn that they become unintelligent in their decisions. And while, the female character in this book doesn't always make the best choices at all times, she often considers consequences and seems to make decisions based in common sense. While there is a give and take, there is never so much that you feel like the last 100 pages were a total waste of your time and the relationship is starting over from square one. There's always just enough give to where you know progress is being made in their relationship, and also enough take to where it's not turning into a sappy Lifetime story.

One thing I deeply appreciate is the way the love triangle is written. My personal pet peeve is love triangles. Written wrong, they can destroy a story in a single chapter. The author in this book, though, carefully weaves the triangle so that it has a light presence for a time, but it doesn't take over anything. It also reveals more about the true characters of those involved the deeper you read into the story.

This book is really good about making us feel emersed in the world. We really feel like Dante IS part of the Mafia. His self destructive tendencies and hot and cold manner in the beginning are traits you might actually see in people with addiction issues (I used to date a former alcoholic--the way he acted was often pretty similar). Unlike my former boyfriend, however, Dante has an incredible amount of discipline, integrity (surprisingly :D), and a lot of refreshing, sarcastic humor. The detailed and tangible emotions woven into the book's pages make it a masterpiece to read, and will keep you coming back for more. I'm very much looking forward to future books from this author.

A nice lightweight read for in between heavy loaded books.

The style of writing is neat, and for me as non native reader there weren't any visible errors. I even got to learn 3 new words :)

The story is fast paced, the romance is set up at the very beginning and there is a sad twist at the end.

All in all a short lightweight story and a nice piece ❤️
