Edit: i changed a few phrases because my og review was way too mean.

Im honestly surprised I managed to finish this book.

The was barely any plot, and the characters weren’t decent enough to be character driven.

I mean the male lead was annoying but NOWHERE near as much as the female lead. That woman is stupid, irritating and delusional. As well as a terrible friend/person, extremely unprofessional and w no backbone whatsoever.

Every single thought or word that spurred out of her mouth was torture. Like contradictions after contradictions.

I really had good expectations of this as most reviews are positive and the few lines i read on tiktok (about the first scene with her awful ex-hubby) looked quite promising. But as you can already tell, the promising took a wrong turn and went who knows where.

For those wanting to read this purely for the smut, i can tell you its not worth it. That dirty talk traumatised me.

Awful writing, awful plot, awful characters.

🌶️: 1.33333/5
😆: 1.5555/5 (it did have a few entertaining scenes before the fl ruined them w her stupidity)

Can you say cheese?

This was over the top ridiculous with cheesy commentary. This was a combination of a stubborn dumb woman and a biggest misunderstanding trope.

Neither of them stopped to think of "we share a last name" but couldn't possibly be related in any way.

I saw the ad for this book on Instagram and thought secret baby by a billionaire romance sounded good. Yeah in theory it hit those points but it wasn't great. It was just ok.

almost as bad as…

If you’ve damaged by C.C. Piper this is ranked with that and forgot to tell you something. All bad and not worth the read. I liked the concept in a matchmaker. I like the concept of secret pregnancy. Neither of these ideas are executed well enough for me to recommend this book to anyone. The ending is cobbled together and the spice is meh. It reads like a low tier fanfic and not it’s own work.

I thought I'd love it, but tbh it reads like a first draft... the line "My darling's kitten is all wet" isn't a vibe 🥴

Mister Lane, Book 5 of the Mister series, was about Brielle McKinsey (Lane), a professional matchmaker who co-owned the Match My Heart matchmaker firm, and Baxter Lane, the CEO of Lane’s Lingerie.

Brielle met Baxter at the airport where she was waiting for her husband, James Lane to join her so they could travel to Hawaii in an attempt to salvage what was left of their marriage. However, instead of showing up, James called and told her he wouldn't be joining her, and that he was filing for a divorce since he was in love with someone else. So, Brielle went on vacation alone.

After arriving at her resort destination, she learned that there had been a mix-up to the point that she and Baxter were forced to share the room they had both been assigned. To attempt to make amends, he invited Brielle to dine with him, but that turned into a disaster of epic proportions. On their first night together, Brielle had still not told Baxter that she was married, even though they shared a spicy night in the same bed.

Soon Brielle sneaked out of their hotel room and returned home, neither of them having shared any personal information. However, not many days passed before he showed up at her office wanting to hire her and her business partner to find him a wife. He was determined she be the one to deal with his case, and not her partner.

After she found the woman she believed would be his perfect match, Brielle set out to find someone who would help her get over Baxter. However, he seemed just as determined to keep her at his side...until he learned the identity of her soon-to-be ex-husband. It turned out that Brielle's ex-to-be was Baxter's step-brother.

This book had more than enough angst and drama, but it was way too long. By chapter 17, I was bored and ready to skip to the last page and bring an end to this whole series. The emotional twists and turns, and the wishy-washy back-and-forth attitudes of the two main characters kept the push/pull at an all-time high, much to the chagrin of the reader. The lies and secrets of these two main characters filled nearly every page and really weren't all that necessary. Also, the story still felt quite juvenile in so many ways, especially the spicy scenes. It felt like a young, prepubescent girl wrote this series instead of a grown woman who should know better ways of expressing emotions.

Both main characters were underdeveloped and not at all mature enough to hold the positions assigned to them in this book. The way the book ended so abruptly didn't leave them any time to show any growth. Once again, the speed with which this author shut things down was untenable. There were so many unresolved issues. It was as if the author was still writing her first novel and hadn't yet figured out how to make it work. There wasn't anything really cohesive about any of these five novels.

With this being the fifth and final book in this series, I must admit I struggled with myself. I had such an intense dislike for many of the previous books that I didn't even want to attempt this one, even though I had read the blurb and was intrigued by it. I just wanted to stop and be done with it. But...I'm a glutton for punishment, so I forced myself to continue. I did reach the end, but it was with a sad heart and a relieved sigh that I no longer had to endure another book in this series. Because of how this book played out, I only gave it a two-star rating. I hope the author will look back on this series and learn what to do...and what to do in all of her possible upcoming endeavors.

Cringe

I skimmed this book because it had such a good premise but it was definitely not my cup of tea. The words the author chose to use grossed me out especially during the spice scenes. I didn't like that he lead someone else on either. It seemed very high school for a book about grown adults. Both main characters had zero communication and led with pettiness and passive aggression.

I thought this book was familiar to something else I’ve read n now I know it’s because it is. The similarities are crazy. Sure this author changed some things but come on.

Whiskey Lies by: Brittanee Nicole(released 06/16/22):

•Fmc goes on a vacay to overcome heartache from cheating husband.

•On the plane she meets her charming/handsome seat mate. They end up hitting it off at the hotel n end a night together. Only the next morning she disappears on him to get back to reality.

•At the fmcs job she is a MATCHMAKER who assigned a new client. Can you guess who that client is?…..It’s her seat mate she abandoned.

I couldn’t finish this one I really tried and read up to half of the book but I couldn’t go further MC is so frustrating, always contradicting herself, she has no self esteem and I’m sorry but with how she always remind us she’s getting a divorce she’s clearly not over her ex husband even if she says so . And please Baxter is not the ML he think he is , his order during their interview ? So cringe if I it was me instead of Brielle I would have walked out right away . Anyway it was insufferable for me and this book is the first one I couldn’t finish . And it’s really too bad because I didn’t made to the extract that made me want to read this book

.... he reminds me of that one guy with the huge tonsil that came out of his nose

The writing is so bad and FMC is a doormat who constantly does stupid shit and MMC is an overbearing idiot, tbh if he isnt "hot and rich" the things he have done is considered sexual harassment.. asking a business partner to put on his creation in private despite her saying no multiple times (honestly he just gives off sleazy vibe in general)

The ending and how they resolve their misunderstanding has got to be one of the worst I have ever read.

Honestly…one of the WORST books i’ve read.
Just incase you need to know. She’s getting a
divorce and her husband cheated on her. You’re reminded of this every 2 paragraphs. I honestly couldn’t finish it. My cat could write something better in her sleep.
Sad, because I saw a clip on social media (instagram or tiktok) and it really interested me.

Content warning:

Mister Lane was a book which held a lot of promise and I think it has potential for readers seeking an easy read book but unfortunately for me it did not deliver.

Brielle was a character who initially came across as intelligent, very business savvy and someone with a positive outlook who wasn't going to let the fact that her husband cheated on her stop her from enjoying the holiday they were meant to have before moving on. However as I progressed further through the book she became a character without a backbone, which I mention again further down, and just someone who severely lacked any communication skills at all. Considering the severity of the miscommunication in this book and the biggest occurrence of it coming from her she came across as very ‘woe is me’ but the problem with that was all the issues in her life were of her own making and they weren't even really issues it was just because of the fact that she didn’t have the capability to have an honest conversation or take a look beyond the surface level and it became very annoying. I tried to like her but by the end of the book there wasn’t much to like.

It's hard to characterise Baxter. Initially he was a very flirty and mysterious individual that really encompassed that billionaire man of mystery archetype and it worked. He came across as dominant and someone who loved to push boundaries and by the end of the book we saw how possessive and obsessive he was. However I can't really say much more about him. I’m no stranger to reading books from the perspective of just one character but I feel not having his really let him down as we didn't get that chance to understand him or his motivations and with how big miscommunication was in this book it would have really helped to have his perspective make it more interesting and developed.

The two shared an instant connection through a chance encounter that led to two forced proximity situations both with only one bed before leading to their matchmaker/client dynamic. With them starting as a vacation fling it was their physical chemistry that started to set the foundation for their relationship. For me the spicy scenes didn't work as I found the writing clunky and the language used was something I just could not get on board with (I cringed a lot) but for some readers it will work. My issue with their dynamic comes in through the undefined dom/sub relationship they had. Domination was a key part of their physical chemistry but it was never truly defined or agreed between the characters and whilst that worked when it came to the spicy scenes it was the scenes where that dynamic continued outside of the bedroom that I struggled with. Baxter had this complete control over Brielle and she kept saying how she had no choice to do this and no choice to do that but I just had to kind of take a minute to sit there and think well actually you do. There was nothing stopping her from saying no other than this supposed intense attraction between them but her constant internal monologue of “I have no choice, he is the boss” made her a character without a backbone who bent to his every whim but not in a way that was good. As part of their relationship development there was some angst, drama, and a couple of emotional twists and turns that came in the form of secrets being kept and later revealed. Some were enjoyable but like the characters felt undeveloped and ultimately it was the lack of effective communication, quick judgments, pettiness, and passive aggressiveness that really tarnished what this story could have been.

Like I said earlier, this book does have promise. The attempts at drama, angst and use of secrets did create a story with potential but the underdeveloped writing, repetitive narration, and abrupt ending meant I didn't enjoy it and I can't see myself returning to this series at any point. This could be a great book for you but for me it wasn't.

I have read every book in this series. Each one is a delight to read but I have to say that this one is probably my favorite. Breanne just gets better and better with her books. There is nonstop chemistry from the beginning that only gets steamier and steamier as the story progresses.

I love that Brielle did not let a cheating husband keep her down. She went on that tropical vacation and came out a winner. Baxter is definitely a twelve, not a ten! To quote Brielle "Mr. Baxter Lane was hot with clothes on. but underneath, he was on fire."

So, if you are looking for your next billionaire romance with tons of steamy romance, you need to check out the Mister series and fall in love with hot, sexy men!

here for the dirty talk

Girl get left at the airport by her cheating husband. Girl meets nice man on the plane who talks her down from a panic attack. Girl happens to be stuck in the same hotel suite as man. Man woos girl, takes her on a boat dinner date where they get stranded and end up doing the do. Girl leaves vacation early, man shows up at her job. Man peruses girl hard in a ruse that he wants a wife, which causes so many misunderstandings it isn’t funny.
The constant misunderstanding is what lost a star for me. I hate with clearly grown people wont just talk to each other.
But the dirty talk is plenty.

If you're in search of your next billionaire romance, filled with sizzling passion, then you absolutely have to dive into the Mister series and fall head over heels for these irresistible, sexy men! Another stellar addition to the series, this book follows Brielle as she navigates life after her husband's betrayal. Enter Baxter Lane, a captivating man who unexpectedly steals her heart. Their relationship takes an unconventional path, and I was completely captivated, unable to put the book down. I eagerly await more captivating stories from Breanne!

3.5⭐️

There were many parts of the story that pissed me off, so I can’t go onto details on the specific ones. Other than that the story looks good. I probably wouldn’t read it again. But I have to say I do love Baxter I mean the man is persistent. Followed his girl everywhere.❤️

Brielle is something. I don’t know her indecisiveness pissed me off a lot but I guess I get it with the situation she was in. I mean personally if it was my business and the man I loved, I’d have my cake and eat it too. Confess the feelings with no fear of rejection!

This was a great addition to the Mister series.

After Brielle receives a call from her husband stating he wants a divorce she still gets on her flight to Hawaii and decides to make the best of it. Little does she know the stranger she meets is going to turn her life upside down.

The chemistry between Baxter and Brielle is off the charts. Their relationship might start off as a fling, but then it takes an unexpected path with many surprises.

Poorly written fanfic full of ideas and tropes that never met creative writing
Female lead is simply stupid
Male lead is trying to be that popular trope of "obsessed, but hiding it", but it's written so poorly, you want to smack his face
Dialogues are pain to read
Dirty talk got me traumatized. No one in real or fictional life EVER used those words for a reason

Wonderful love story

Beautifully written, very realistic, and well developed characters. A romance with twists and turns and denial of feelings.
When Brielle is left at the airport by her husband, Baxter is there to help her out. When they end up in the same room sparks fly and so do feelings. The rest is how their love blooms.
A great book and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Mister Lane

This was a decent story, and pretty good as a light read, with betrayal, angst, lust and longing all round, so why only 3 stars (well 3.5) to put it simply, the ending, it just fell flat, it was abrupt and just didn’t hit right for me, there was little to no karma, we never saw any real consequences for the ex husband and ex friend, and the two mc’s reunion was a little lack lustre and anticlimactic. That being said the rest of the book was good.

70 procent echt geen zin meer in haar . Hun scènes samen waren wel hot, maar dat was ook het enige ... Snap niet waarom ze zo tegen hem vocht... Dat ze zo hard to get moest spelen. irriteerde me nogal aan haar. Dat van hem was ook apart. Ze hadden alleen fysiek contact en kenden elkaar niet eens echt. Waarom wilde hij haar zo graag?

Had the potential to be a great book but the h kept making stupid decisions, even against the advice of her friend. Not only that, but she seemed shocked to be pregnant after admitting she wasn’t on birth control. Little details like this just had me rolling my eyes and being aggravated rather than getting lost in the story.

Second chance

Well, Baxter Lane was fabulous! He is different than the other books, more laughter from reading this book. Lots of steam as well. Brielle was lost and broken hearted when she met Baxter and gave into the passion. When Baxter becomes one of her clients, she tries to keep it professional but their desires kept them drawn to each other. Great read!

It was a good book but it could have gone without a lot of the sex scenes. The scenes seemed to be a filler when the main story line would have been fantastic without it. I very much enjoyed the banter and the pure sexual attraction they had for each other.

I can't with this. Sometimes it was good, but then it goes straight back into being shit. Uses words such as 'kitten' to describe lady bits, and 'man juice' for orgasm. It also reads like it was written by a third grader. I just can't with it. I can't.

I’m not trying to be a meanie. But this dragged, there was no plot, some of the wordings were top of the line cheesy and just not… sexy in my opinion. It was an honest struggle to read this. I wanted to enjoy this and it just wasn’t something that I would read again.

It was more in depth than some of Breanne's other books. Brielle and Baxter have have instant fireworks and chemistry. I did feel like it went back and forth a bit much with little communication. I know it's a book and fiction, but still.
