Just when Agent Mendoza is settling into his new job with the shadowy paranormal law enforcement agency known as CERBERUS, he’s thrust into an investigation that has him questioning his career… and his sanity! The ghosts of Austin are angry—and some of them have gone stark raving mad.
Now Agent Mendoza is following a trail of necromancy and grave-digging that’s leading him to the source of all this ectoplasmic trouble.
But things may not be precisely as they seem. Is there an unseen hand moving in the shadows, pulling strings to ensure that CERBERUS is overwhelmed with investigations of poltergeists and haunts?
And if so, why does this individual want to keep the agency preoccupied with all this mystical madness? What scheme do they have planned that requires so much chaos to pull off?
Mendoza is determined to find out. In the process, he’ll face an enemy that’s deadlier than anything he’s come across yet… one that quite possibly could be the mirror image of himself.

(NOTE TO The CERBERUS Paranormal Detective Series consists of short action-packed reads. If you're looking for an epic fantasy length book, this is not it—these are Doc Savage or The Executioner length novels. Also, the main character is a veteran and a cop. These characters talk like soldiers and cops—they curse. You have been warned.)
M.D. Massey describes himself as the prototypical INTJ. His eclectic background provides him with a rich tapestry of experiences to draw on when crafting fiction, as evidenced by the believable worlds and relatable characters he creates.
As a former Army combat medic (91B), professional martial arts instructor (Krav Maga, JKD, FMA), and women's self-defense instructor, he possesses a unique understanding of close combat, firearms, and criminal violence that few authors can match. This knowledge provides an element of realism to the Druidverse™ novels, setting them apart from other fantasy series.
Mr. Massey lives in the Texas Hill Country with his family and a huge American bulldog that keeps him company while he writes. When he's not in his office or at the local coffee shop writing, you can find him in his garage pummeling inanimate objects or knife-fighting with his friends.
I did not leave a review for the previous two books, just read all three one after the other. They held my interest and were pretty much a good read. I am not a big fan of military terms and fighting, tho. AND, I did not realize there was a glossary of terms until I was finished. I had been irritated that I was given terms that I did not understand, and only found the glossary at the end of the book--why not at the beginning? I guess I should have read the Table of Contents first? The writing is good, the story is interesting, but sooo much was not explained, just glossed over. Also, in, I think, Book 2, it is explained that the zombie vyrus is NOT present in necromancer-raised zombies, as they were not created from infected zombies. Yet, in several places after that, especially Book 3, fear of the vyrus is a real thing. AARGH! I wanted to leave a question on Mr. M's blog, but for the life of me could not figure out how to do so. I do not do any kind of social media, so I hope he sees this and fixes the vyrus references to one or the other! I did enjoy the series. I have read many other things by Mr. M, and enjoy the earlier books in his series more than the later ones, which seem to become overcomplicated, as if striving to come up with new and more outlandish ideas.
A bit of a lackluster third act. While the stakes were raised and the world was on the verge of an apocalypse, the monster(s) of the week wasn’t nearly as interesting as the last two entries. It just didn’t hit the same even though it had the potential to be the scariest villain so far.
As always, Agent Tony Mendoza is a super entertaining protagonist. The new additions to his team are fun and bounce off his character well. The story overall was still fun to read. But I wish the book had more time dedicated to giving a little more substance to its villain. I don’t mind the monster of the week formula, but this villain simply wasn’t built up as much.
The Book of the Dead aspect of this story is phenomenal! Tony M is back and is neck deep in zombies and bad dreams and one nasty Bloody Mary! He is assigned to a new team that consists of a magic user, a werewolverine, and him, and sometimes a human. They track down a lead that gets them where they need to be to get the job done. In the middle of all this turmoil, Tony meets Toni and a strange romance commences that is a little confusing. I get the impression that there might be more to this in the next book, we'll have to see.
Once again M.D. Massey's characters have become friends that you want to sit around a campfire, or a tv in a bar and listen to your friend tell you amazing tales of what they've been up to since you last saw them. Better yet when another friend of yours pops in asking for help to stop Armageddon. Then the 3 of you pickup some tools (see armaments) text some others for support and off you go on another adventure. Can't wait to see where we all are going.
Tony Mendoza gets two new team mates and they are quite the odd group. Melvin the werewolverine and Raine the mouthy magical maven. They even drag poor Gibbs out on a dangerous op. Strickland as warm and fuzzy as ever. Lots of fun and danger here folks. Tony's girlfriend Cara has a score to settle too.
Well for a start I nearly stopped read this book at first it didn’t appear to be my kind of book , at 20% I thought just carry on a bit longer and what a good choice I made I could not put down it got very interesting and none stop action, well worth a read , now to see if there is a next one
Our agent discovers new ways to die, more people and monsters to annoy, and yet more opportunities to really piss off the director. He is coming along just fine. Nice shift into team effort and an hysterical ending. Reaching for the next episode.
Written from the male viewpoint of Tony Mendoza, redeemed by a caramel machiatto. A new pack is forming. “Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride”. A great read, recommended.
This third episode in The Cerberus Paranormal Detective Series, is a short, fast, enjoyable read with lots of action and pain for the main character, Tony Mendoza. The fascinating storyline and the excellent, well defined characters have me looking forward to the next book.
Great Action, a great cast of new and old characters, another Great addition to the World of Colin McCool! Do not miss this Series. Hoping for more real soon!
If I filled this space with WOW , that might be enough to explain how I feel about this book. To say that I enjoyed it would just be to pale. Buy it and enjoy it. Get the whole series, you won't regret it !
This series is a great exploration into the other areas of the Druidverse. Compelling characters, fast action and great dialogue make it impossible to put down. This is definitely a series to read!!!
Massey has done it again! The team is coming together nicely. While Mendoza is edgier than Colin, I see great potential in him as an effective leader. I so can't wait for the next book.
The book does a good job of picking up where the last left off and introduces new characters smoothly. I am looking forward to book 4 in the series and expect we will see some crossover at some point of his other series.
Great quick read fire this while series. A great end to a fantastic story about CERBERUS from the junkyard druid series. Hoping there are more to follow at some point.
Mendoza returns again, this time to fight zombies and these zombies are a lot of trouble. There’s a necromancer behind them and the Book of the Dead. It’s an action-packed fight fest from beginning to end.
