The purpose of this book is to introduce the Western audiences to the most important issues pertaining to Ramadan and all the acts of worship we do in this month. The issues begin with the history of how Ramadan became an obligation on the Muslims and the different stages that the Companions of the Prophet went through until Ramadan became as we know it now. After we have an understanding of the development of the obligation of Ramadan, the reader is taken through all the important issues from the beginning of Ramadan to the last hour of the day of Eid. I added one bonus chapter dealing with the Salaf's reading of the Quran. This chapter, which is the final chapter in the book, will give the reader a glimpse into the seriousness the Salaf had with the reciting of the Quran inside and outside of Ramadan. The book is set up in a question-and-answer format to provide the reader with the questions that are constantly asked about Ramadan. Each question is answered with the strongest opinion of the scholars of Hadith and with evidence provided. May Allah make this book a benefit for my brothers and sisters in the West! I hope any questions you have about Ramadan are answered in this book.
The Believer's Handbook for Ramadan, by Muhammad Ibn James Sutton. A very clear and concise book with proofs from the Quran and Sunnah upon the understanding of As-Salaf As-Saleh; written by a Sheikh who studied the deen in Dammaj, Yemmen and Medina, Saudi Arabia under qualified Scholars of Islam.
The main things every muslim should know about Ramadan is included in this book that will (inshallah) benefit beyond the blessed month.
On another note, the more one learns the deen, it becomes clear that knowledge should be taken from the established Scholars of Islam and not from the layman social media personnel who state their opinion haphazardly without any proof and the masses are lead astray.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “The best of my Ummah is my generation (Qarni), then those who follow them, then those who follow them.” [Bukhari and Muslim]. Therefore we all should remember that every innovation in Islam is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the hellfire.
I continue to learn and inshallah, one day maybe I wouldn't be so deficient in the deen I was honoured to be part of.😔 .
As we entered the blessed month of Ramadan, I always find it beneficial to brush up my knowledge about this pillar of Islam.
This is a very useful book for that purpose and is true to its name. It goes over all the main topics related to the month of Ramadan, from fasting to eid, zakat al fitr, ... Although I follow a different opinion on some matters, I do recommend it, it's easy to read (<150 pages) and goes to the point.
