Rate this book
Splatterpunk award nominated author, Daniel J. Volpe, presents a collection of horror that is sure to satisfy the gore-hound in everyone.

A girl is attacked by a mysterious being in the middle of the night, leaving her with more than she bargained for. Nine months later, Ashley finds herself pregnant at the prom, but what beast lurks in her womb?

Two couples hike in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, enjoying the lustfulness of the fresh air. When one of them falls into a river, the trek downstream leads them deeper into the woods, where they find a rock. A rock full of screaming faces.

A pair of dusty gunfighters share tales around a campfire, rehashing old memories and vendettas.

During his shift, a bartender meets the girl of his dreams. He’s offered a minor role in an upcoming indie horror movie, set in a closed summer camp. When she pulls out the Dalmatian mask, all hell breaks loose.

A father and son share a bonding moment in an open grave.

Out for a late-night stroll, a woman is savagely attacked by a deranged man, suffering multiple stab wounds. Detective Callagan is assigned the case, but something about the crime feels off, turning into a murder mystery full of gore and surprises.

Can you survive MULTIPLE STAB WOUNDS?

Words association horror readers:

First book that comes to mind when I say:
1. Prom
2. Trapped in a field
3. Gunslinger
4. Trust
5. A father who can’t accept the death of his son
6. Stalker

You will be forgiven if some (or most of them) was written by a King.

But these are all unique, fresh and told by a man who has a very bright future in the horror industry.

Not going to say anything more. Loved all of them.

A Wicked Collection!

I had a blast with this one. All the stories are killer, but my favorites were PREMIER and BLANKET FULL OF BULLET HOLES. Volpe never disappoints. Highly recommended for fans of extreme fiction!

Well, what can I say except for: Fucking excellent!
As usual, Daniel Volpe delivers.

6 brutal short stories, that made my black heart happy.

They were all great, however, if I could pick one “Premier” is my favorite. And “Grave Dirt”.. sigh 😔 hit the spot for damn.. even though this one wasn’t brutal or anything.

If you hav never heard about DV or read anything by him, start now!

*I’m not going to give you the ‘what this book is about’ blurb – you can read that elsewhere.

1. LOVED this! I read it in 1 sitting – each of the stories was so good and so unique. It’s Volpe, so there is definite gore involved, but I personally think this isn’t as extreme as many of his other works. It showcases his range. He can do gross, he can do splatter, and he can do good horror with a message.
2. Some of the themes in this short story collection:
- ‘Carrie’ but with the added bonus of a demon spawn.
- Hiking horrors in alternate dimensions.
- A story that really drives home why it’s important not to trust a stranger.

But my 2 favorites of the collection are:
- Blanket Full of Bullet Holes. This one surprised me because I don’t tend to vibe with Western themes, but this had a really good twist and beautiful writing.
- Grave Dirt. This is short; only 2 pages, but it managed to give me goosebumps as I found it to be the perfect summation of grief.

3. I love how Daniel incorporates his friends/fans into this work, it’s so fun to catch the little head-nods to the people in the Indie Horror Community as you’re reading through. Speaking of – be careful of Schommer Park 😉

While the stories in this collection may be, in my opinion, less extreme than what I'm used to reading from Volpe, they are just as effective in building a moving picture in your mind. As soon as I thought of discovered my favorite of the collection, I turn the page and would be just as blown away by the next story. I think this would be a great book to start with for someone who's not read anything from this author yet.

1. Pregnant At Prom ⭐️⭐️
- This was fine. Nothing too interesting or crazy.

2. Screaming Faced ⭐️⭐️⭐️
- This was better! I liked the concept and I actually felt sorry for the characters.

3. Blanket Full Of Bullet Holes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- SATISFYING!!! Nothing tastes better than an asshole getting what he deserves.

4. Premier ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- My favorite out of all the entries. It was disgusting, gory, and wince-inducing. Not gonna lie, I almost passed out because of the imagery lol.

5. Grave Dirt ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
- Felt very creepypasta-ey. Short and sad.

6. Multiple Stab Wounds ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Now this?? This I wouldn't mind reading a whole book about.

Daniel Volpe does it again with this awesome collection of extreme horror short stories! Shorts are usually really satisfying for me because I have a very short attention span. However, this collection also left me feeling like the fat girl that I am, snacking on little bits of delicious chocolate and left wanting the whole damn candy bar! Exciting stories, likable characters, and gruesome scenes hit all the check boxes for me. It's always a treat to read Volpe's work, and Multiple Stab Wounds is no exception to that. I am looking forward to more from this author who has easily become one of my favorite extreme horror authors.

Multiple Stab Wounds is another winner by Volpe. The stories are all unique and shocking in their own way. A Blanket Full of Bullet Holes and Multiple Stab Wounds were my favorite. Chocked full of gore and suspense, this collection will leave you wanting more Volpe shorts.

A solid little collection of extreme horror. Something to entertain you for the day. All of them take less than 20 minutes to read. I’m not big on short stories bc I always feel unsatisfied when it’s done but some of these were pretty fun. My favorites from this collection were “pregnant at the prom” and the titular story “multiple stab wounds”.

Multiple Stab wounds by Daniel Volpe is an awesome collection of short stories that has something for everyone. Stories range from prom night carnage to sinister film shoots to Wild West comeuppance. My personal favorite of the bunch, Screaming Faces, centers on a deep woods mountain hiking trip that goes cosmically awry. If you’ve missed out on some of Volpe’s short work as published in the Exits anthology, Splatterpunk Zine, or the D&T Publishing newsletter, then this is the way to catch up. Awesome stuff!

"The monster blinked and released her hand.
The mangled flesh and fingerless stumps wept blood, but there was more to come. Much more."

PREGNANT AT THE PROM
What a way to start this absolutely detestable and putrid collection of stories. This story was so fast, so sharp, it had exactly what it needed when it needed it. I could have read more of this, but the short and implicit nature of the story made it a phenomenal read. 4/5.

SCREAMING FACES
A story with a lot of great momentum until exactly halfway through. The first half was a great rise in tension and anxiety for our main characters and then, when it actually hit the fan and hell began for our characters, I grew rather bored now that there was a tangible horrific creature to visualize and fear for. Oddly enough, the second half felt like a short from David Lubar, like something straight out of one of his “Weenies” books. 2.5/5.

BLAKET FULL OF BULLET HOLES
I would have never guessed that any of the stories in this collection would have been a western, so for that I was pleasantly surprised. I think one of Volpe’s biggest strengths as a horror writer is his ability to describe such truly disparaging and disturbing events, creatures, and characters with a level of realism that makes you question if this could really happen or not. This story plays a bit too much into the believable and reads of a story that could take place today and still be relevant. I would easily pay money to read a full western novel by Volpe, too. 3.5/5.

PREMIER
This one was absolutely amazing. What a great blend of the supernatural horror mixed with shocking snuff real world horror. I was hooked from beginning to end and this was another I could have read if fleshed out into a novel. 5/5.

GRAVE DIRT
Short but simple, harrowing and depressingly realized, this reads like something from a grieving individual who needs some sort of creative release. 3.5/5.

MULTIPLE STAB WOUNDS
Yes. This was perfect. An absolute killer short story that I found to be not only completely enthralling, but also a great expansion to the established world and characters of some of Volpe’s other works (one in particular should make fans of a certain one of Volpe’s stories freak out like I did). 5/5.

I absolutely cannot recommend this collection of stories enough, as overall, they were a great showcasing of how incredible of a modern horror author Daniel J. Volpe is. I have read most of his bibliography, and I can’t wait to read what I’ve missed and what’s to come from the incredibly twisted, yet incredibly gifted author.

I have a confession. I'm a Daniel J Volpe fan. Multiple Stab Wounds is a collection of 6 short stories containing horror, explicit violence, and some sexual content. Allow me to rank each short story:

Pregnant at the Prom: 2/5 - just because the demonic monster is very much unbelievable; however, it's like nothing I've ever imagined before.

Screaming Faces: 2/5 - I'll be honest, it left me confused and lacking some understanding of the overall concept.

Blanket Full of Bullet Holes: 5/5 - This could easily have been turned into an entire novel. It gave all the wild west vibes and was an amazing revenge story.

Premier: 5/5 - Didn't see that coming

Grave Dirt: 5/5 - This story was literally a page and a half. Super, super short but left me wanting more, more, more. I wanted the backstory and wanted to know what happene next.

Multiple Stab Wounds: 5/5 - Is it just me or did the vampire appear to be described a little like Talia?

A Sample Platter of Gore and Death

This collection of short stories is perfect for anyone looking for a quick read and/or a book independent of a series.

Sometimes I only have time for a few pages, but I still want to feel I've accomplished a reading goal. This book gave me that satisfaction while also giving me the extreme horror I crave. This is definitely not for the squimish. Mr. Volpe does not disappoint or stray away from his method of madness which he is so very good at. He even dropped in a character from a series I love. My apologies. There is a cameo, but any reader can pick this book up and not feel lost or confused with the guest appearance.

This was a fun read and a great way to spend a snowy night.

This collection was fuckin awesome not a bad one in this collection. I really enjoyed Blanket Full Of Bullet holes and Screaming Faces. This collection of stories were not as "extreme" as I was expecting them to be but that didn't matter cuz Volpe just kicks ass and shows with this collection that he has many tools in his arsenal. Just a really awesome and enjoyable horror collection. I highly recommend this and all Volpe's work.

I'll hazard a guess in stating that this is the best extreme I've read all year (and damn, 2023 has been a gory one)! Each story in this collection covers a wide range of subjects, and Halloween even makes the cut. Volpe gets right to the point by utilizing his terrorizing writing style. Never a dud with this guy!

What can I say about this short story collection? Well, the opening paragraph had me in stitches and it kept going from there. Daniel Volpe has become one of my go to horror authors in the last two years.

This collection has a bit of everything. From the Wild West to the grave and everything in between. Sink your teeth into this one. You won't be disappointed.

This is a short story collection that ranges in length, story, and depth. My favorite story had to be the Pregnant at prom story. I absolutely love a good rosemary’s baby type of story. These were good sized stories and definitely some unique ones thrown in the bunch. Overall a solid read.

By the time I read this collection of stories, I've already read a couple of books by the author. Normally, whenever I read a collection of stories or an anthology, I tend to love one or two, max four stories from the collection. It's very rare that I fall in love with ALL the stories, and this is exactly what happened with this collection. Volpe writes so coherently and cohesively that each story, however short it may be, has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and it doesn't feel like it was cut short due to the constraints of a short story.

Multiple Stab Wounds was exactly how the title describes it: short and swift stabs with pain and suffering present throughout. Each story delivers such sorrow and misery to the reader that it feels like you're being stabbed multiple times while being awake and conscious the entire time.

This is a collection of stories that has it all, and it deserves to be ingested and digested slowly. Bear the pain, it's worth it
