It was a very well written book and I greedily read it in two days. The two main flaws I had with this book was not having enough Eislyn and Lir chapters. I would have been happy if there was at least one more love scene between them. Hehehe. Also I wish Eislyn could have had her own POV chapter when finally seeing her mother for the first time. I would have loved to know her feelings internally and I would have loved to have a catch up between them. I felt like that was cut short by being in Reynas POV when she finally saw her mom for the first time.

I didn't love it as much as the previous ones. Still good, but kind of underwhelming, unfortunately.

The Finale to Jenna Wolfhart's Fallen Fae Series provides a stunning backdrop for a world of high fantasy, romance, political affairs and an epic game of war. The conclusion to the series brought many unforeseen plot twists and betrayals, while wrapping up the storyline of the adventures of the Darragh family.

While I am typically not a fan of multiple POV's, I have enjoyed getting to know the personalities and nuances of all the characters throughout the series. I especially enjoyed the character development of Eislyn in the tail end of the series. I can't help but feel that Thane and Mariel's story isn't over and felt it was cut short. Whereas I think that Jenna did an amazing job with the storyline of the Lorcan and Reyna, but I am slightly biased since they are my favorite couple. I am very excited to see where the story of the Fallen Fae ties into her Hidden Kingdoms series. I took notice the recurring mention of dragons throughout this book, hopefully it is setting us up for A Spark in the Darkness (Hidden Kingdoms #2).

I recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of the author C.L. Wilson, Bec McMaster, the From Blood & Ash series by Jennifer L Armentrout, the Shadow Beast Shifters series from Jaymin Eve, the Vicious Faeries series from Natalia Jaster, and the Trixie Towers series from Scarlett Dawn

Still good but a bit underwhelming...

The previous books set the bar high that the events in Realm of Ashes leading to the defeat of Unseelie is just so meh. Half the time the characters spent reading books and researching to seek answers on how to stop Glencora from Cleaving the World. I expected more action, more intense and heart-stopping action, since this book served as the series' conclusion. However, no matter the time they spent on their neverending "researching" and planning, Glencora seemed to have no problem beating them to a pulp. She was always two steps ahead of them which was achingly frustrating. The vital characters from the first two books had become non-existent here—Thane and Mariel. And what's more? The humans didn't prove to be a threat. I barely felt their presence and they had no effect to the plot at all. As I said, the characters spent more time planning and chasing down the enemy than have two armies clashing. The presence of the Fomorians in Tir Na Nog brought no effect at all that I wonder if it was really necessary for them to be there. I wonder if Lorcan had not distracted Glencora, would Reyna ever defeat her? Glencora's defeat was so unsatisfying. Reyna just killed her own sister and I barely felt any emotion—grief and remorse—from her and Eislyn. How did Nollaig take the death of one of her daughters?

“He’ll be all right. I think he’s looking forward to living a peaceful life in the Thousand Islands. With Mariel by his side, oddly enough. He was never meant for courtly life.”

Another odd decision done by the author. Pairing Thane with Mariel in the latter part of the book. It was just so out of the blue. I see no reason for them to be together. I mean, where's the development?

Still, this was a wonderful ride and I’m sad it’s over, but it ended wonderfully! I loved Reyna and Lorcan, as usual. I did get tired of the Reyna pity party that ran rampant through the last few books though. It was important for Reyna to experience self doubt and to overcome it, but every time something happened she threw herself a pity party and it just got a little old, especially in this final book. As Lorcan said, betrayal happens to everyone and often, but Reyna was at a point that she should’ve been able to not internalize the betrayal. She had been through too much by this point and reverting to pitying herself was frustrating. But she did overcome and that was important. I also didn’t like how little Thane mattered in the end. I agree with Eislyn, who said, “He deserves more than what this world has given him.” I wanted more from and for him.

The weight of her reign had never felt lighter. No matter what happened, they would take the future on together. She no longer needed the ice to feel alive. She was home.

Their journey has finally ended. Reading this series has been a wonderful ride and it's time to part with these characters. And no, I'm not crying 🙂

OMG what an epic ending. This adventure has been amazing from the very first book and I have loved every minute of it and although sad to see it end boy what an ending it was! Questions have been answered, storylines concluded and then there’s on hell of a battle to conclude everything! Gripping from start to finish I cannot recommend this series enough!

Repetitive, long, sloppy writing

I usually give authors a break with editing but this was really bad. All characters make a low whistle and crunches the ground while walking.

There is no uniqueness to the characters. What made Reyna unique in the first few books was that she had a familiar and wings. She had an attitude and strong willed. Now everyone has wings, a familiar, and an attitude. Ugh!

Battle. Read. Battle. Talk and meander about BS. I love you!! Battle. Cry. I love you so much!! Walk around some more. Omg so boring!

I find it really hard to believe the air and sea court had no other heir to pass the throne to. Not everything needs to be Reyna’s decision. I liked her at first but lost interest in this novel because I couldn’t stand her or any of her family members.

So disappointing because I loved the first three books. Book 4 was ok, and Book 5 was a complete waste of time.

“Who is there to lead us but Reyna Darragh?”

I can’t believe it’s over! I loved this series so much! I loved the world and the magic. I loved the heroes and the villains. This was a wonderful ride and I’m sad it’s over, but it ended wonderfully! I loved Reyna and Lorcan, as usual. I did get tired of the Reyna pity party that ran rampant through the last few books though. It was important for Reyna to experience self doubt and to overcome it, but every time something happened she threw herself a pity party and it just got a little old, especially in this final book. She had been through too much by this point and reverting to pitying herself was frustrating. But she did overcome and that was important. I also didn’t like how little Thane mattered in the end. I agree with Eislyn, who said, “He deserves more than what this world has given him.” I wanted more from and for him. There were still some characters I would’ve loved to know more about and what happened to them, like Rhain, but everything wrapped up pretty well and I was happy with the story.

1st reading: A bit convoluted, going back and forth, but in the end it all made sense within the constructed world of the narrative.
I get annoyed when authors don't obey the laws of the worlds they set up, and there are a lot of inconsistencies in this series around distances and locations and how long it takes to get from point A to B based on the method of travel. Some readers may feel these things don't matter, certainly not to the plot or to character development; but if one wants to create an immersive world where things are accepted as fact and aren't questioned, then they need to make *sense.* Otherwise I'm constantly getting pulled out of the story to say, "wait... how did they get there so fast?" or whatever.
Anyway, this series was still enjoyable to read, although I'll probably never be compelled to read it again. But I'm not against reading more of this author's work.

Loved this series, so this rating is really for all 5 books. Was needing something to read after Throne of Glass and have now read several series since then, think this one is probably the best of those I've finished. Really enjoyed the world creation, characters, overall story arcs. My only complaint if you even call it that is there are still several characters who I think could have more of their stories hased out. Probably enough there to have a couple more solo books - Lir, Mariel, etc.. I'd read those for sure if they got done. If not still recommend this book and series without hesitation.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Criminally Underrated romantsy

This series is a criminally underrated new-adult enemies-to-lovers masterpiece. The depth and breadth of the world-building give it more of a romantic fantasy feel than a typical romantasy, but make no mistake — the romance absolutely burns. The chemistry between the leads is electric, the tension delicious, and the emotional payoff so satisfying.

The plot had me completely riveted — full of danger, secrets, and heart — and I ended up binging the entire series in a single weekend. If you love richly imagined worlds, morally complex characters, and a romance that crackles off the page, I cannot recommend Realm of Ash enough.

Keep writing

Completely captivating! The plot only thickens as each book is opened. Without revealing to much, the death of certain characters had me almost ready to just throw the book down and leave it at that. I'm so glad I kept going, mostly because I'm stubborn. The ride this series took me on was an excellent experience for what I needed. Being an avid fantasy reader, the story took me to a place that was of magic and intrig, but was just close enough to be able to believe in the realms. Keep writing, Jenna Wolfhart. Your fans are waiting.

Book 5: A Good Read

Although I loved Reyna and Lorcan, it was disappointing to still see Reyna struggle so much with her strength.

Eislyn and Lir were great characters. Eislyn was very devoted to the cause, but she
should have been more understanding about Lirs responsibilities.

It was an overall good read. I wouldn't say great, because there were scenes full of whinning. A good read for me could be great for someone else.

What a finale to an amazing series! I have been invested in these characters from the very start, and the ending did NOT disappoint. I am sad that it is all over, but so glad everyone got the happy ending they deserved. This series does not get enough love, it should be one of THE most talked about out there, I could not highly recommend it any more.

Fitting Finish

A very fitting finish to the end of the Fallen Fae series. No loose ends, an almost perfect happily ever after. I did feel the back half of this book was a bit rushed, but it didn't deter from the enjoyment of finishing the series. I'm eagerly awaiting to continue on with the Hidden Kingdoms series. 😍

Great Finish to a Wonderful Series

Reyna and Lorcan and the rest of the group continue their quests to keep the evil entities from taking over their world. The story is filled with fear, strength, romance, imagination and intrigue. There are many twists and turns through the story and it makes the book even more exciting. It was hard to put it down.

Realm. Of Ashes brings to a conclusion the Fallen Fae series.
What an exciting end to a great series bringing together all the characters that we have met on this journey for one final epic battle.
The joining together of Fae , Fomorian and Humans is needed but can Reyna overcome her previous prejudices?
The ending is magical
Well done Jenna

An epic journey

I loved this story! I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with myself now that it's over. I fell in love with this world and all of these characters! The journey wasn't easy, but they rarely are. I think I will always carry a bit of Reyna with me. When I doubt myself, when I don't feel strong enough, when darkness comes... I will look to the dawn 💖

Really like this series overall. Great story building. I do wish that there was more detail in certain events in the book like when Glencora is defeated- the lack of emotion and detail was disappointing. It was such an important event I feel like there should have been more to it. And then at the very end of the book I wish there was more of the post cleaving events that would have played out before the 5 years later. I also wish there was more scenes between Eislyn and Lir. There was so little of their story told, I was so looking forward to more being told.

I'm most of the way through the book? I think I'll probably loop back around to this series one day, I just. . . lost interest?
It's a solid story line, it's not too tropey, the detail and nuance it brings to the genre is nice, but I don't feel called to pay it the attention those details need right now. Ya know?

Interesting end to an interesting series. Can't say much without spoilers, though. Was satisfying enough. Some bits wrapped up a little *too* neatly, but it's fantasy and I can suspend my disbelief a little farther.

The 4th book was most enjoyable to read for me. The others seemed to sag for me in the middle. The quality of the plot is insane. The details all matter. Great plot twists with no noticeable plot holes. Great tale. Especially if you're into war and politics and family ties.

Series Ending with Ease

The final book wraps up the journey with surprises along the way as well as the darkness needed to wrap this all up. There are enough loose ends to feature another couple in another story.
