There's a house in Cordova, Alabama that hides a terrible secret. So many deaths and suicides have happened on the property that locals have come to refer to the estate as Hell House. The story starts with Carissa Taft, a young college student who wants to join her junior college's paranormal investigative team. Before she can join though, she has to go through her a solo investigation to prove she has what it takes to be on the team. Sadly for Carissa, the location that she pulled out of the hat was Hell House. She would spend the night in the bathroom where a mother drowned her children and then commited suicide. What's the worst that could happen? Unfortunately for Carissa, the worst was the thing of nightmares. The horror continues as the spirits of Hell House come out to play with the man who sent Carissa on her Initiation. Reality becomes blurred. The shadows seem to be alive. Can Josh discern reality from the illusions tormenting him, or will Hell House claim another victim? In the third and final act, the sheriff who warned Josh to stay away from Hell House finds that the house has plans for him as well. The secrets of Hell House are slowly revealed, one nightmarish vision after another. Can he survive the night? Will his grandson be sacrificed to the house? Will the truth set him free or be his undoing? The Initiation Trilogy was originally published one story at a time, but the stories are all so closely linked that publishing them together made perfect sense. This collection would be considered a long novella or a short novel as it chimes in at over 30k words. It's a perfect read for lovers of paranormal horror, just be sure to read it with the lights on.
