Bar owner Paige can’t deny that there’s just something about Melanie and her prim and proper librarian look that messes with her mojo. But Melanie is no librarian; she owns Lulu, the new super Instagrammable brunch spot in town, boasting bottomless mimosas and prime selfie opportunities. If anything, Melanie and Paige should be rivals, probably not friends – and definitely not anything else.
But when they both team up to work on a community project, and then Melanie finds Lulu the subject of a malicious online review campaign, they might find that staying just friends is going to be a little trickier than either of them could have imagined …
Book 4 in the Friends series but it can be read as a standalone novel. This is Paige and Melanie's story.
I was thrilled when I heard there was a fourth in the Just Friends series by fabulous author Lucy Keeling, and I sped through it! Each book in the series centres on a different friend in a tight circle of four, and Just Friends for Now is about Paige (or Book as her gran, Connie, calls her - I LOVE that!) and her love life. Paige owns Barbarella's, a bar, and has a kind of psychic gift that has been playing up recently. She is feeling broken. She hasn't been in a relationship for a while, but the entrance of a new business owner, setting up another establishment nearby gets her hackles up. Or at least she thinks that's what is happening. Then we have Melanie, the competition. She's stressed. Her business, Lulu's, seems to be going well, but she is on the go constantly, what with helping her sister raise her son, as well. Then there is the friction she feels emanating from that other local bar owner, Paige... I won't tell you what happens. Otherwise, why would you go and grab your own copy? Needless to say, I loved this FF romance, with plenty of sizzle and drama and a fantastic conclusion! It was great to catch up with the rest of the gang, Sophie, Mya and Polly, and seeing how the friends all get together to help the latest one of them in a pickle. Several other characters we get to know, including Connie, Paige's Gran, and Cleo, Melanie's bar manager, are just fantastic. Real feisty women! I have to admit to being rather sad about the fact that it is the end of a much-loved series, but the epilogue made me all warm and fuzzy, and I guess we can only hope that maybe, just maybe, Lucy Keeling might want to resurrect some of these characters in the future...
Imma gonna need a minute before we get down to it… be back in a tick!
*rummages in kitchen cupboard*
Aha! Result! *snorts* Why can I suddenly hear David Attenborough doing his best VO with “And here we find the lesser-known Emotional Reader foraging for chocolate supplies…”?
*settles back on sofa*
Where was I? *sighs* The last book in Lucy’s Friends series went out with a bang. Paige and Melanie were EVERYTHING!
I thought Mya kept her cards close to her chest (ba-dum-tss! IYKYK *winks* Thank you, thank you! I’ll be here all week!), but she ain’t got nothing on Oor Paige. Nobody can hurt you if you don’t let them in, right? Pfft, it makes total sense that Paige’s favourite Disney film is Hercules.
I’m not kidding when I say her layers have layers. And with her mojo out of whack, she’s having a full-frontal assault when it comes to her feelings and emotions. Most especially with the arrival of rival bar owner Melanie. Hormones, eh? They have a lot to answer for… *smirks*
Melanie doesn’t have time for romance! Her priorities are ensuring her new bar, Lulu, she co-owns with her bestie, succeeds along with helping to raise her nephew (Alfie is adorbs!) with her sister. Paige is a distraction she doesn’t need, but oh *bites lip*, what a distraction…
Enter Fate with a little nudge disguised as a local art project!
If you’re looking for a smoking hawt queer romance featuring rivals-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine duo, with let’s-bang-once-and-get-it-out-of-the-way-but-don’t-catch-feelings-aye-right, a swoon inducing chin/tilt thingy, one inappropriate (in the best ways) grandmother, a four-year-old you’ll want to smoosh with kisses, and a hint of suspense *blows out breath* then what are you waiting for? It’s a no-brainer really! Get your one-click on!
It’s sad to be saying goodbye but what a time we’ve had! It’s been emotional for sure, but I will cherish all the laughter and tears shed (sap!) for this series and their much-loved characters.
this book was such a light read, I was starting to fall into a slight reading slump and this book was so easy to follow and honestly such a sweet/typical romance storyline!!
This is the last novel in a series about a group of four friends, each of whom is the focus of one book, so you could read it without having read the others first but, if you want chronological order, it starts with Sophie's story, then Polly's, then Mya's. Now Paige's turn to find love (and try to pretend it's just friendship) has come at last, and her story is obviously a must-read for everyone who read the previous books (even those who have never read FF romance before because really, it makes no difference). I loved catching up with the whole group, learning more about Paige and meeting Melanie (who's a to-do list enthousiast and a lovely person), and of course this is a romantic comedy so there were some funny mishaps. Also, Melanie's nephew and Paige's gran compete for Best Scene-Stealer. 😉 Now, although I'm sad there won't be any more news of the four couples, I'm also happy because the epilogue was a perfect ending to the series.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Such a fabulous finale to this wonderful series of books about a group of friends who are always there for each other. Each book focuses on one of the characters and this time it’s Paige. I must admit I have always been rather intrigued by her attitude and personality, so I was very curious to find out her story and, wow it was a good one! Mel was a great character, her stresses and crazy work ethic created an interesting storyline and the chemistry between her and Paige was absolutely sizzling. The will they won’t they tension was very entertaining, and most definitely kept me turning the pages. The added mystery of who was trying to derail Lulu also was thrilling to follow. It was wonderful to catch up with all the girls from the previous books, as well as Paige’s fabulous Nan. It was just like meeting up with some old friends! I truly loved this gorgeous series and will miss spending time with them all.
It was great to catch up with the girls and as each book centres on one of the four this time it’s Paige’s turn. When Melanie opens a bar on the same street as Paige’s it means that she is part of the neighbourhood traders group and although Paige tries to ignore it there is definitely an attraction there. This book has brilliant characters such as Connie who I would love as a Gran and four year old Alfie who is adorable. I’m sad that this is the final book in the series but loved the ending and Lucy ensured all loose endings were tied up however left it open enough to possibly a further book in the future should she wish, which I for one would read!
Another brilliant book in the Just Friends series Paige & Melanie are attracted to each other. They both run their own bars but have to meet up for the Neighbourhood Alliance meetings with a pushy councillor. It is part of a series of books (Just Friends in Vegas: the last one was set in Vegas at a poker tournament). Really enjoyed it. Was hard to put down. Loved the characters Paige, Melanie & Connie.
A very modern romance. I found this book a delightful story and a thought provoking one! The heroines were a lovely pair who fought hard against a romance. The description of their businesses was as intriguing, as was their life. It was entering a whole new world for me, in all aspects and I really enjoyed the experience.
Made me laugh. Made me cry. Loved this book. Sad it is the final book in the series. As with all great series you want them to just carry on. Can’t wait to see what Lucy bring us next.
