When a mysterious stranger promises to fulfill every dark fantasy I’ve secretly harbored, I’m intrigued. The price? I must agree to be his, completely.
Growing up without a mom, I’ve strived to earn my father’s approval. But the only thing that matters to my wealth-obsessed father is marrying me off in a lucrative business deal.
Torn between loving and hating the last family I have, I’m drowning my sorrows when I meet him.
He’s everything my father despises and Landon’s decadent promises are too tempting to resist. There’s a darkness in me that craves everything the vampire offers. I’m drawn into the Barrows, a deadly web of vampires, magic, money, and sin. The more I give myself to Lan, the more free I become.
Secrets never last, though, and when one is revealed, my world implodes. Betrayal surrounds me and I know only two things: My heart has been stolen by a savage and I am going to die by his hands.
I really like this a lot...loved the main characters and the story line, Unfortunately, i do not find sado masochistic bedroom play to be even remotely romantic or sexy. The author did sort of hint at this in past books with the H and his proclivities but i'm a romantic softy who was hoping we'd go the Fifty Shades of Grey route, where the H is a Sadist but falls in love with someone so hard that he no longer requires that anymore...she is more important to him that needing the other stuff. Sadly, the h in this book willingly reciprocated with open arms so i guess they were a perfect match in the bedroom but it's really not my thing, especially not when it comes to
I'm definitely looking forward to the next book though as their story has been hinted at throughout all the books so far and we'll finally get the whole story and hopefully a HEA for those two!
A little vampire BDSM, the best plot amongst the series so far. Lan and Wren have great chemistry, his desire to keep her close makes sense for the plot vs just an inexplicable attraction. I wish the dark stalker aspect could have gone on a little longer, but the dirty talk? Wow. Consensual BDSM with vampire flavoring? Absolute fire. I think there are only 3 fully written spicy scenes, the others are pretty quick or just stated that it happened. But the ones we get? Daaaaamn.
I absolutely loved the praise dialogue and the daddy/baby girl talk between Lan and Wren. He's an A+ at giving the praise I want, because I am in fact, a very good girl.
For those that liked knife play in Haunting Adeline, you'll like this. (But it's all actually consensual in this book.)
The plot isn't a continuance of the other two stories; the other characters do make an appearance, but this is very much about Lan rectifying the ghosts of his past. The formula of this story is the same as the other two, similar story beats and pacing, making it predictable. And Wren forgives Lan WAY too quickly, they literally don't even have a conversation about his lies. I don't think he apologized either. It doesn't make or break the story, I just found that unusual, albeit a little annoying.
I don't know why the covers are all the same looking dude. Each of them is clearly different. Kasar with his long hair and Greek coloring, and Lan is described as fair skinned, blond, and Polish. Why?
3.7 stars I was looking forward to Lan's story—he's always been quite the bad-boy enigma. Sometimes, I’m not sure whether to love him or hate him.
Unfortunately, this book didn’t live up to the first two, and that wasn’t because of Lan.
What I didn’t care for: I didn’t dislike the heroine, Wren, but several aspects of her character were difficult to overlook. She’s hyper-intelligent and accomplished—graduated early, earned a PhD, and is an accomplished musician. Yet, at 29 years old, she has to keep a secret second phone because her father still monitors her calls and tracks her location. He controls her as if she were nine instead of nearly thirty. He even dictates that she will marry the man he’s chosen for her, despite the fact that she barely knows him and has zero interest. WTH?
When her driver takes her to her father’s penthouse, she passively allows it.
Supposedly, her father is the most important person in her life, but when she learns about his diabolical plans for her, she barely reacts—no devastation, no strong emotions. She also discovers the truth about her mother and remains equally unfazed.
Then, there was the "call me Daddy" trope. I didn’t necessarily mind him calling her “baby girl,” but her calling him "Daddy" was cringe. This trope always makes me uncomfortable. There was also knife/blood play, which, in my opinion, didn’t add much to the story.
That said, I don’t want to make it seem like there was nothing good about the book. It was an okay read. I always enjoy seeing the characters I’ve come to know and love from the previous books. And I’ve decided—I do love Lan’s character. He’s not the psychopath he believes himself to be. After years of thinking he was damaged and incapable of love, he ultimately proves himself wrong.
I read this book in one day - barely left the couch. Totally worth it.
Having read the first two in the series, this book is a bit more romance than plot. Wren play acts a prim, society woman who is a devoted daughter to her tech mogul father, Oberon Benoit. However, she is rebellious and wants to step up from under Benoit's thumb. Landon Polastri is a 600+ year vampire with a grudge and a psychopath streak. After almost dying in the 17th century due to a greedy general's whims, he takes it upon himself to kill the guy (surprise its Benoit) by using his daughter as a stepping stone.
The motivation behind Landon's murder plan is interesting - and the story hints to things he's done for several years that led to this book, but they aren't discussed outside of "I've been working on it for some time now.." I wanted to know how long he's stalked Wren, how did he find out all of her family's and her company's secrets. When did he realize Benoit was his old general? None of that is addressed, just that it happened.
The other thing that has been bothering me is his use of the word "Matka" when he's referring to him mom. Landon's supposed to be Polish, and sure that word means "Mother" in Polish, but depending on how you're using it in a sentence, it's not the correct spelling and it is infuriating to keep reading it incorrectly. It's also an oddly proper term when everyone else refers to her as Mama Josephine in French and not Mother Josephine.
At first, I didn't like Wren because I thought she was the typical "i do everything my father expects of me" type character, but slowly, you see her rebellion towards her father, especially after she meets Landon. I enjoyed the history of Landons character and why he was investigating Oberon. It was great to see the rest of the group band behind him when Ambrose confronted him about him keeping secrets.
It was a bit far-fetched that little rich girl Wren would be into Landon, "carving her up." lol like geez. I did enjoy their smexy scenes - very what I expect vampire romances to be..lots of biting and blood! I'm not so sure about the next book - I'm not particularly interested in Ashe/Eris/Cassandra's storyline. I'm definitely waiting for Malichis's book, though!
Well, the daddy kink surprised me. It is so not my vibe, so I had to hard skim most of the bedroom scenes.
If we look past that this was great. The plot is plotting, again love this worldbuilding. The reason - beside the obvious daddy kink - its not a 5* is again the abrupt stop. I just wish we had more time with the couple after the major plot happened. I have yet again so many questions.
Gonna keep it spoiler free, but its a consistent thing. At least the world and the characters is 10/10. I even kept on going beside having to hard skim so many pages cause it makes me cringe, babygirl and daddy is just not my thing at all.
This is book three in the series. This book is the story of Landon and Wren. Landon is angry at the world and has been for centuries. He has cause since his commanding officer tricked him and his fellow soldiers to obtain an ancient artifact to prolong life. Now Landon has found Oberion and wants his final revenge. Landon plans on going through his daughter Wren aka little bird. Wren is brilliant in her own right, so will she discover Landon’s plan or will she become prey? Triggers for a vampire mafia story. Read On!
Lan stole my whole heart!! Ahhh ever since I met Lan in the first book of this series, I was so interested in reading all about him! He’s an emotional unavailable vampire, who swears he will never have a mate as he doesnt know how to love. My oh my, was he so wrong lol. And the fact that he falls for the daughter of the man he’s after, is everything! I seriously did not want this book to end. I do wish the ending of the book could have been a bit longer just so that I could see more of Wren and Lan together!
I was intrigued for Lan's story and it didn't disappoint. I did like the storyline itself. I loved seeing him fall for Wren when he considered himself a psychopath incapable of feelings. He'd burn the world down for her.
I wasn't a fan of the daddy kink. That's just not my thing. And Lan is definitely a sadist so that spice definitely be spicin'.
I'm looking forward to the next one because Ashe's story has caught my attention since the first book!
Wren and Landon's story was definitely different. A cup that can prolong life by someone that loves you as long as you can drink their blood. Only a true monster could be that evil. To want to sacrifice your own child to live longer, another monster. Oberon got what he deserved. Wren and Landon got their happy ever after.
I enjoyed this book a lot! I loved the characters and the author was able to bring them alive for me! Wren and her vampire lover told a good story that I hated it when it ended. It was full of lots of surprises and suspense to keep you turning the pages, wanting more! I would highly recommend this book to all other readers!
I started on the wrong book, but it looks like a stand alone series. it was a good story, not really my cup of tea but enjoyed it none the less.. it kept me interested right til the end and I might as well get the other two books and see what the rest of the gangs story was about the back story with dad alone is enough to get me to read it.
Excellent storyline & so happy about the ending! Wren father was the devil in disguise! Did anybody else catch the “they” reference about baby? Waiting on Book 4!!!!
HOT DAMN! This book 100% sold me on the series. In loooove with Landon and Wren from their character development to their romance. A few missed opportunities drama wise but it didnt impact the punch of this book at all
I enjoy this series. I like the plot and characters. Wren is my favorite. She's brilliant , talented and good businesswoman. Lan is a powerful vampire out fir revenge. Lots of steamy scenes and action. I was disappointed Lan did not grovel to Wren for using her to get to her father.
This Book gives you Everything you've ever wanted from a Paranormal Romance! So Much More! Sensuality, Tears, Anger, Heartbreak! I absolutely COULD NOT... PUT IT DOWN.
Another good addition to this series of books. Good characters and plot along with good twists and turns plus action and suspense. Keeps your attention.
Tropes: Daddy Kink Blood Kink Dom/sub relationship Mates Ulterior Motives
From the previous books I knew Landon’s book was going to be good and I wasn’t disappointed!
Landon considers himself a “psychopath” by modern standards because his change happened after a traumatic accident that damaged his brain. Despite him saying that though, I’m so glad that he finally started listening to Wren and his family that he has normal emotions and there is nothing wrong with him.
Wren and Landon are so good for each other and I adore their relationship. I love where they ended up at the end and I can’t wait to see their cameo in the next book!
This book was much darker than the prior two. If you are a sensitive reader, please take note of the author's trigger warnings. Despite this, I enjoyed learning more about Landon and what makes him tick. It was great to see that he was able to find someone that completed him despite the darkness within him.
The plot was a little slow at the beginning, then it picked up speed. Once I got invested in the outcome, I rushed through it. This is one you can devour in just one sitting.
