Titus Black never gives a warning when he’s about to pull the trigger. With the dogs of war clamoring for a new conflict, Vice President Charles Bullock goes missing in a brazen abduction under the dead of night. The Phoenix Foundation’s operative Titus Black and Christina Shields are tasked with bringing Bullock home with a near-impossible directive: safely recover him without anyone finding out that he was ever taken.
While Black and Shields navigate landmines in the field, Phoenix Foundation director J.D. Blunt is caught up in a near-impossible mission of his own: keeping the lid on an explosive story with national security implications. In the meantime, the foundation’s top investigator Ned Edgerton digs in to find out who’s behind the plot.
As allegiances are revealed, Black and Shields must complete their mission before pursuing an unlikely candidate who was behind the abduction—and stopping the perpetrator from committing an even more deadly act, one that would endanger the lives of thousands of innocent people.

THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.
In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.
After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.
I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!
But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.
After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.
I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
It’s hard to believe that False Flag is the fifteenth Titus Black Thriller, it seems like just yesterday I was introduced to Black, Shields Edge Jenna and Blunt. This latest installment in the Titus Black series is more than action packed, it delves deeper into political motivations, and double dealing. While the story is centered on Black and Shields, Ned and Jenna play significant roles as well as they attempt to keep President Young out of harm’s way, or in some cases his own way. AS you are reading this book, you may want to tighten your seatbelt as you will encounter some head turning twists that leaving you wondering how you never saw that coming.
For readers of the Titus Black series this is a must read – a genie is let out of the bottle that could have long term repercussions. I received an Advance Reader Copy of False Flag and chose to provide my review.
Phoenix Foundation operative, Titus Black, was on an undercover mission in Afghanistan, supported by his partner, Christina Shields, to extract a traitor from the Taliban, who has information they need. Getting it from him is another matter.
Amongst several parallel threads in the penultimate book about Titus Black, I enjoyed following President Young as he became aware of his political problems. The many convoluted twists and turns kept me fully engaged in the complex situation.
One of the best yet! The Titus Black series is my favorite and this one leaves you wondering if it can be topped. Great story that makes you think about headlines today. Plenty of action and suspense to keep you up all night, cause the twists and turns of the story make you need to keep flipping those pages to the bombshell ending you know is coming. Cudos to Patterson for another explosive Titus Black hit!
It's certainly an extremely terrifying thought that this very story could possibly happen in real life. Maybe not all of the taking over the world stuff, or maybe so, but either way it's definitely not something that I wish to see. It was an intriguing fictional thriller, and a great addition to the series. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Black on another op, knowing his sacrifice would benefit others. Christina keeping him informed on the op and having a planned exit. A reporter who wants the big story, to expose the Phoenix Foundation. Blunt calling in favors, then.finding who was being the abduction. The plot is packed with thrilling action to the end, with great characters Given arc for my voluntary review
A excellent story with numerous twist and turns. Black and Christina move to try to return the Speaker of the House to the United States from his abduction in Russia. Once returned to the states, numerous stories of his abduction come to light and Black becoming the face of his abductor.
An excellent Titus Black action thriller with a fast-moving storyline and outstanding realistic characters. A storyline that was very well written with plenty of action and suspense. Page turning read that I really enjoyed and highly recommend. Bring on the next Titus Black action thriller!
Titus is searching for the leader of the Senate, apparently kidnapped by Russians. Titus is then accused of being the kidnapper, and spends his time trying to keep from being arrested by the FBI. Twists and turns galore. ENJOY!
Certainly kept me turning pages as fast as possible. Held my breath a few times. The closer the end appeared the more intense the action became. Black is surely fearless.
Once again, the author gives us Titus Black and doesn’t disappoint. A Vice President is missing, can they find him, bring him back secretly. Danger and suspense to keep you gripped until the very end.
As per usual, the action is slow at first, but the pace picks up toward the end when Titus Black and Shields pick up the pieces and try to find out who abducted the Vice President? There is a twist at the end.
