Never mess with another man's cattle, or suffer the consequences…
Robert Fairchild, a wealthy easterner, has retired in Hollister, Oregon. He bought land, built a beautiful home, and brought in thousands of sheep and reliable shepherds. But seeing as Hollister is the epicenter of cattle country, its townsfolk want nothing to do with Robert and the threat his sheep pose to free-range land and water sources.
When a group called the Hollister Sheep Shooters is formed—whose primary goal is to kill as many of Robert’s sheep as possible in the hopes of running him out of town—Robert refuses to flee. Instead, he gets revenge and starts a deadly feud.
As Matt Bannister attempts to uncover who the hood-wearing sheep shooters are, his investigation turns into more than he bargained for, and he struggles to keep the peace between cattlemen and sheepman—both with hired guns at the ready.
Join US Marshal Matt Bannister as he tries to solve a vicious murder while stuck in the middle of a pending war between two very powerful groups.
Ken Pratt worked to make a living, but his passion has always been writing. Having a busy family, the only "free" time he had to write was late at night getting no more than five hours of sleep a night. He has penned several novels that are being published along with several children stories as well. Ken Pratt says, "If you want something bad enough, you'll sacrifice something else to get it. I sacrifice sleep. I do not write to be a best seller or for wealth, I write to bring hope into the lives of the hopeless and encourage the disheartened through the lives of the characters and God's providence in my stories. There is always 'Hope' and that is the purpose of my books."
Number 16 in this fabulous series is..we!!...fabulous!
Matt Banister is like no other fictional character that I have ever read about. He is harsh and dangerous, but tender hearted and kind to children, women, and anyone else who is not evil...A powerful and dedicated US Marshall, he is also righteous through Christ Jesus. Truly an absorbing series. I have read them all and wait somewhat impatiently for Book 17!!!
I thought this book started a little slow. A lot of characters introduced at first. After I got into the story a little I found it very interesting. I really enjoyed the action and story line. I thought this book was a little different and found it hard to put down. The action really kept my interest. A first class read. Recommend it to all.
Mr Pratt certainly knows how to write a western full of the normal narratives, yet adds in so many good words of the Lord in to his stories. I appreciate that plus the books are awesome good reads.
I have read all of your books this one put me to sleep. Who were the good guy's? They all seem like bad guys. Next book I hope will be more exciting and will include Matt s wedding to Christine finally. Pamjr39
I'm so surprised that this being a Christian book that so much grizzly death occurred. It was a good read but not as good as past books. Would still recommend this series to those that enjoy a good western read.
I enjoy reading western novels anyway. But I really like how they add a Christian message with. Can't wait for the next one. I believe anyone would enjoy this book. Very well written.
You are probably used to westerns pretty black and white, good vs bad. This one has that alright, but it also has bad guys that want to be good guys, bad guys pretending to be good guys and even good guys that want to be bad guys. Whew! We also have a cattle baron AND a sheepherder baron from the east who retired in Hollister with thousands. You can imagine how that stirs the pot.
