To his family, I’m a strategic move in their war. To mine, an alliance offers protection against our enemies.
Still, there’s something about him that calls to me. A dark edge threatens to revive me. His gaze steals my breath. Even if my heart thinks this could work, my brain knows better.
We say “I do” with his brother’s blood on our clothes, and the bars of my gilded cage slam closed.
Our wedding vows are forever – ’til death do us part. But with enemies closing in from all sides, death might be closer than we think.

S. Massery is a dark romance author who infuses all her stories with a dash of suspense. Formerly from Massachusetts, she now resides in Southern California with her dog, Alice.
Before adventuring into the world of writing, she went to college in Boston and held a wide variety of jobs—including working on a dude ranch in Wyoming (a personal highlight). She has a love affair with coffee and chocolate. When S. Massery isn’t writing, she can be found devouring books, playing outside with her dog, or trying to make people smile.
Note to authors: don't write about a country you know nothing about, using words of a language you know nothing about. At least do some research first, for gods sake.. Paloma is not an Italian name, Ricardo is not an Italian name, "bellezo" is BELLEZZA and in Sanremo there's no mafia and there's no ocean either. There's the Ligurian Sea, not the ocean! This book is totally inaccurate in describing Italy and its culture. I think that if authors want to write about a country that is not their own they should do some research out of respect and accuracy.
Having said that, unfortunately I didn't like this story and I couldn't connect with the characters. Their love felt rushed and had no foundations (it seemed more lust than love) and I think Amelie forgave Lucas way too easily.
I loved the love story and the building to it. Its basically the arranged marriage i don't think it has anything to do much to mafia related. There is no stuff related to that. Also its not dark ,actually the guy is pretty sweet. So instead of mafia category i will rather place it into a sweet love story under arranged marriage trope. Amelie's character was good she is feisty when she wants to be and i like her for standing up for herself. I am eager to see what there in store for Gemma and Aiden.
This book consumed me from start to finish! It's an addictive and steamy action-packed ride that will keep you guessing! You won't stop turning the pages on Amelie & Luca's story once you start to find out how they fare in their promise of til death do they part.
I loved Amelie, her strength and watching her come into her own was beautiful. And Luca! He's so sexy and protective, I loved his possessiveness. Their dynamic is so fantastic, they're the perfect match for each other. This book was such a thrilling story, I had no idea what hits were coming next and my heart was pounding for these characters every time a new threat presented itself.
What a fantastic book! It started with a bang and just kept going. Sometimes your life makes a hard right turn… and then makes another. Nothing can prepare Amelie for her wedding day and what happens afterwards and you really feel and empathize with the girl you may not have liked before. The princess of self-preservation, Amelie wore mask after mask to survive whatever life has thrown at her. Luca is the man that’s finally going to see her and accept her. The story flowed really well - there were just tons of twists and turns and it was an emotional rollercoaster ride and the writing was great. The character development was awesome. Amelie was one of those girls you’re really conflicted about in the beginning, but really learn to love, care, and empathize for as the story goes on. Everything in her life has shown her that hope is a dirty word and to risk it will only let you down and break you. Luca is not the perfect hero. Possessive, anger issues… it’s been a long time since he’s had someone who cared about him and has not had a lot of examples of good relationships. The chemistry between the two of them was non-stop and the smexy times were 🔥🔥🔥. It was wonderful to see them find strength in the other and forge their own path to happiness ❤️.
Trope: Arranged Marriage Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Angst: 😰😰😰/5 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 Triggers: Sexual Assault
This is one of the titles TikTok made me read and surprisingly I am slightly disappointed.
The story follows Amelie who's groom was shot dead at the altar when they were about to get married. The decision is quickly made for her to marry his youngest brother Luca instead, like nothing happened. Let's just say in, the eyes of Amelie, the dead groom was the lesser evil to marry and, oh boy, was she right.
Now, I really enjoyed the plot of Amelie growing to be her own person with her own mind. What I didn't like and put me off the whole book was the writing. It was chaotic. It was full of errors. It felt like a first draft and honestly the flow? Was non-existent. I almost felt like it was written by me and I ain't a good writer. Unfortunately, this makes me not want to read the rest of the book in the series, or actually written by this author. Am I judging too harshly? Do let me know if that's the case and other books were constructed better.
But for the moment? I'll say thank you for a nice story and say goodbye.
I love everything S. Massery writes. This book started with bang and kept me in my feels.
“I’m going to burst into flames. Or worse: catch feelings for Luca.”
I definitely caught feelings for Luca. Like immediately. So hot. I can’t.
“Lies, Amelie.” He kisses the inside of my thigh. “How many did we stack up today?”
Amelie was intriguing in the Fallen Royals, but damn... I loved how complex she was in this story. We got to see her fragile side then she reminded us she’s a total badass. Obsessed.
“I should know better than to hope. Hope is a dirty word designed to tear us down.”
This story punched me in the gut. Several times. I felt so much sorrow for both of them. The way they became vulnerable around each other... chef’s kiss.
Honestly, I was going to DNF this book, but I hate doing it so I stuck it out. I just didn’t really like it. The whole thing felt very forced and the story was all over the place. I am a sucker for a mafia romance and I know that they can be far fetched sometimes, but I still usually enjoy them. This one, I really did not enjoy. The spice was fine and the characters were alright. It just was not as good as some of the other ones I have read. Plus they’re both too young. 19 and 23 I believe. I don’t understand why people cant be mid to late twenties or even early thirties.
Ruthless Saint is the first book in the DeSantis Mafia series and I honestly really enjoyed it!! I have been anticipating Amelie’s story since the author mentioned she would be getting one. Her story did not disappoint and I grew to really love her character now that we have her point of view.
This book has a lot of interesting aspects to it and Amelie’s character is one of them. She surprised me in the best way for how she is portrayed and the feelings she carries within herself. I felt for her in the good moments and the bad. Amelie is honestly really strong in her own way. I never realized how much she actually felt until I read her point of view on things.
The relationship between both main characters was interesting. I genuinely feel like they both learned something from each other and learned to grow and be a better version of themselves, the version that makes them feel free. I loved the moments between both main characters! Whether they brought pain or love, they had the fire between them that sparked all the time.
Author S.Massery started off this series really well. Characters were introduced that I can’t wait to read about!!
This story was one I'd highly anticipated reading. Amelie was always such a fascinating character. Queen Bee, mean, a little broken - I badly wanted to get under her skin to work her out, and I knew her story would be big. Whoa, did Massery deliver. From the start, this is a rollercoaster ride of a tale. We have murder, intrigue, fear, and undeniable chemistry. I loved Luca, especially the layers behind his mafia-son exterior. I loved how he and Amelie were flawed and made mistakes, but then went on to build that into something special for them. Massery is a master of tension, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for trouble to start. I also had the great privilege of a character swap between Amelie and one of my heroes. He makes a guest appearance in Ruthless Saint, while Amelie cameos in one of my stories. Co-ordinating this was huge fun, and it means Ruthess Saint has an even dearer place in my heart. I highly recommend you start at the very beginning with Massery's Wicked Dreams and then turn off your phone and binge for days straight. You won't regret it.
The first in the series, it starts off with a bang. From there it stalled for me. About half way through it picks up a little but it just didn't grab back my attention. I really wanted to like it. I didn't read the book that Amelie was introduced in, so maybe there was a little disconnect there? Both Luca and Amelie didn't seem to know what they felt or how they should behave in their new roles. Others seemed to enjoy it, it just wasn't my cup of tea.
I have to say I was really intrigued by the cover and then the blurb. I enjoyed the book but it just didn't capture my attention as much as other books previously have by s. Massery. Amelie's story started good but then as the story progress from 35% it was all over the place for me. I just couldn't connect with it. I tried hard but it wasn't just for me I guess.
Amelie's character did a one-eighty degree turn I was so freaking shocked, it was really hard to digest it and then Luca, I must say he captured my attention but his relationship with Amelie was so hot and cold. And we get more story about the upcoming book than the book that is currently going on and the story was all over the place.
But it is a good read and the steamy scenes were some of the good things in the book. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, I do have to say this was better than I thought it was gonna be.
It’s not Danielle Lori. And I hate myself that I compare every mafia book to hers, but what can I say, I’m a whore for her work.
It’s not DL but I do believe it’s one of the better Mafia books I’ve read on KU.
The characters are likable, you get a little attached. There’s angst and there is joy.
The story line was even pretty good, the only thing I wished for was a little bit more of it.
I did indeed love Luca’s character development, and his backstory. I liked his darkness and how he fucked was pretty damn hot.
There were scenes where he did the wrong thing, and actually had remorse for it. He actually regretted it. And that was very refreshing.
So yes. I can’t wait to read the second book about Aiden because good god all mighty, Aiden is possessive and a bit stalkerish and I’m 100% here for it.
Ruthless Saint S Massery ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶 You know what I love? A book that I can’t look away from. 😍 I’m going to be honest and tell you that I’ve been disappointed in all Mafia books I’ve read since reading the Made men series by Danielle Lori. Everything else has fallen flat. And this gem found its way onto my kindle. 311 pages of pure perfection. It has it all: 💎 Arranged Marriage 🩸 Murder 🔥 Spice 👌🏼 Drama I absolutely loved Luca and Amelie and can’t wait to dive into Aiden and Gemma’s story. Just trust me. Scoop this up. It’s on KU but I have a feeling the physical copy will be coming to live on my trophy shelf.
This is a mafia/arranged marriage book that is very fast paced. My heart broke for Amelie and all the things she was put through, then it lightened with all the growth she had and how strong she became. At times I had whiplash over Luca’s moods and his back and forth with how he treated Amelie, but eventually he saw the light. Gemma is a rockstar and I really want to see what happens with her and Aiden. Lastly, I wish we could have seen more of Lucy. I feel like I would have loved her even more. Excellent work!
Amelie knows the expectations her parents have for her future, but that doesn't mean she agrees with them. Marrying a man she barely knows for the sake of business instead of love isn't high on her list, but it's what she will do, because it's what will keep her family safe. Joining her family with Luca's ensures safety for her family and their business dealings, but it it also ensure that her new life will always been surrounded by danger. That's what happens when you join a family with mafia ties.
She knew when Luca stepped in to replace his deceased brother that he was only doing it to carry out the deal that was made between their families, but she didn't expect him to actually show that he cared for her and her welfare. He's a hardened young man, one who was taught to show very little emotion from an early age, but every now and again he slips and lets her see the man underneath all that bravado. And that is the man she could really fall for, the one who could steal her heart... or the one who could break it too!
Ruthless Saint takes us into the dangerous world of the DeSantis Mafia family and introduces us to it's newest member and her possessive and always protective new husband Luca DeSantis. These two weren't exactly meant to be together, as she was originally promised to his brother, but after his unexpected death, Luca decided to step in and honor the deal made with Amelie's family. He knew exactly what he was getting into, and he was more than pleased to claim Amelie as his own, as she as been the object of his desires for sometime now. But this union came with a price, one that cost both of them dearly, but it also gave them something they both needed to, someone who honestly loved and cared for them. Neither had never really known that kind of love, both coming from families who don't share much emotion or love for one another, as it is a sign of weakness. But they did well at hiding it when necessary and sharing it when the time was right.
I really enjoyed this venture, the words were captivating and well penned, the story line creative, and the characters unique and easy to connect to. I am anxious to see who graces the pages of the next installment, and see where they take us in this dark and dangerous world they live in. Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
You should be saying your Hail Mary’s after reading Ruthless Saint by S. Massery. This dark mafia book is one to die for! Ruthless Saint is a spin-off of the Fallen Royal series, it is not necessary to read the other as this is an all-new series, but you would be missing out if you don’t. This story is as old as the mafia itself with the arranged marriage between two people who don’t know each other but Massery puts a spin on this one like none other. A wedding, bloodshed, a funeral, and more rival families than you can shake a stick at, keep this book interesting and moving along at a fast pace. I liked the inner dynamics of former bad girl Amelie and her fighting spirit. Luca is a confusing character at times and his inner dialogue doesn’t always show which way he is leaning towards the decisions that he makes but that is what marks him as unique. This is a fantastic story with all sorts of twists and turns that will have you hanging on for dear life. Can’t wait for Aiden and Gemma’s story to come out which will be book two of the DeSantis Mafia series. 5-stars for Ruthless Saint by S. Massery. Amelie Page is set to marry Wilder DeSantis in an arranged wedding. The beautiful day is ruined by gunshots and bloodshed. Just as quick as Wilder hits the floor, Amelie is now being wed to a different DeSantis brother. The marriage was never about love, but with one little signature Amelie is once again locked into a different type of cage, one that just might prove to be deadlier than the last.
This book conflicted me. I adored the blurb so was excited to read it but it just didn't hit the mark I was expecting after adoring this author's mercenary series. The plot held a lot of promise, but the main characters let it down at different times. I loved seeing the female character grow her backbone though. I think I might of enjoyed her growth more if I had read the previous books she was in. In saying all of this, it was still a good start to a series and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
Listened to the audiobook and I enjoyed the narration. I feel like the narrators fit the main characters really well. The side characters had a big part in the story which was also a plus but unfortunately those were really the only things that kept listening. The story itself isn’t really dark and the mafia aspect isn’t a huge part of this book.
Although Amelie has little control over her own future but she thought she had an understanding of what her future would look like. What she didn't count on were the events of that day. The one that changed everything. Reshaping her destiny in a way she could never imagine.
And him. His type of protection is not something she ever wanted to be involved with. But that choice is not hers to make and the steps that have been taken will change her destiny forever.
S. Massery totally redeemed Amelie in my eyes. She was nothing like the stuck-up mean girl in the Fallen Royals Series. Her strength and determination is what I loved most about her and Luca… he is just so damn swoony except at one point I did want to drop kick him. This is a fast-paced read that I couldn’t put down, I totally devoured it in one sitting. The pairs journey wasn’t easy-going but the road to their hea was so worth all the bumps they encountered. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
"Powerful men like to contain beauty. Trap it, kill it. My soul aches, a pain that radiates deeper than my bones. I’m tired of being the pretty thing in the cage."
Twists and turns from the very beginning, unseen happenings that couldn't have been anticipated, an unlikely couple forced together for power and protection. As it all unravels, the powerful personalities ignite, and fight the attraction. Both are so bad a$$, I loved them as the fought each other, obstacles, life, and enemies abound. The sweetness and romance gently blended with the action, and heartache...I loved this one!!
"I put my hand on his chest, trying to stop his pursuit. Little embers of fear rain down, hot on my skin. Fear burns like no other."
If the blurb didn’t sell me, the prologue sure would have! When Amelie’s betrothed can no longer marry her, Luca swoops in and does what he needs to for his family. Amelie’s very first instinct is to push Luca away, no matter why he’s close. Both figuratively and literally. Amelie isn’t part of the life Luca lives, so he’s extremely sympathetic and possessive of her. To keep her safe, Luca takes Amelie to a small town in Italy. Except she’s not safe there either. But that close proximity causes the tension between them to snap. There’s a kindness to Luca I wasn’t expecting. And it’s obvious Amelie wasn’t either. Even though they were forced into the situation, they really do want to try to make it work. Until the truth comes out, and Luca snaps. But Luca will stop at nothing to not just win her back, but find a place in her heart. Luca wants Amelie to feel safe and free, even if it means he’ll lose her forever. They take the time to properly show each other what they mean to each other. To share the love between them. And ya’ll a love letter?! I definitely wasn’t expecting that!
