When Travis's best friend hooked up with a woman and moved away, life on the Sunshine Coast just didn't have the same appeal. So, he went on a road trip to visit. He expected to have a great holiday with his mate. He didn't expect to encounter a weird cat lady, a broken car, or to clash with the woman next door.
Finley has been sisters in solitude with her neighbour for over a decade. That is until her neighbour comes home from her fortieth birthday holiday with a bloke following soon after. Finley—with her collection of cats—feels like her life is going nowhere and takes action to change that. The beginning of her 'new me' is derailed before it begins when Travis arrives and parks across her driveway.
In Finley's eyes, things go from bad to worse, with Travis at the centre of each debacle. In Travis's eyes, the woman next door makes things far too hard, but not always in a bad way.
As a former covert operative, Aria Peyton has jumped from helicopters, commando crawled across enemy lines without underwear, created secret alliances with the things that go bump in the night, and bungee jumped off the top of a Styrofoam factory into a vat of beanbag filler. With the aid of the Secret Agent Protection Group, she currently masquerades as an average parent, but can leap Lego towers in a single bound, pack school lunches like a boss, and can burn herself on any hot surface without the aid of a how-to manual. Her multiskilling talent is now known throughout the universe. Never be fooled by the apparent mediocrity though. To do so is at your own peril.
For reals, though, she's an Aussie author, copy editor, small-time blogger, music lover, and dragon (honest!). Mum to 3 crazy girls, 2 cling-on dogs, 3 black cats with personalities bigger than they are, and a horse who's filled with attitude. More hours in the day (or at the very least, a pause button on the clock) would be handy
Southern Dreams follows on a year after the novella, Pineapple Dreams. It was never expected, never planned or plotted, but here it is. 87K of fun, grovelling, and making amends for stupidity. There's also snark, cats, and a trip around Adelaide to some touristy places with excellent goodies!
Set in Adelaide, Australia. Contains Aussie language/slang, and written in AU English (so those things you may think are spelling issues... aren't!)
Follow Finley and Travis on their journey on October 7th at all digital retailers!
Really enjoyed this story! It was great to revisit characters from Pineapple Dreams too and get a bit of insight into their relationship a year on. The hassles Travis creates for himself and the way he crawls his way out of it drive the story well, and the sassy banter between him and Finley made me chuckle. I loved the setting and the friends visiting places around Adelaide. It's always cool to read about places you've been or have them inspire you to go.
I'm really hoping the author explores their other friend Mal and his woman Shez too in the future.
