USA Today bestselling author Nicola Davidson worked for many years in media and government communications, but hasn't looked back since she decided writing erotic historical romance was infinitely more fun. When not chained to a computer, she can be found ambling along one of New Zealand’s beautiful beaches, cheering on the All Blacks rugby team, history geeking on the internet, or daydreaming. If this includes dessert—even better! Her books have appeared in USA Today, NPR, and Entertainment Weekly. Concise book, but like weak in the spanking areas, which I expected but yeah. I made sure not to go in expecting all that was promised on the author’s instagram, so at least it wasn’t a shock with how meh the bdsm conversations were. But anyway, don’t ask my virgin ass about it, what do I know HAHA! Perhaps it was the use of the word "anus" more than once that made me feel a little icky lol. I don't know what other word to use in its place, but anus is just so anatomical lol. Also: too much telling and not enough showing. "Good girl" loses its droolability/swooniness when it is said like "I want to be a good girl." "Are you going to be a good girl?" "Yes sir/your highness" (like sometimes the dialogue was like that) and I just pictured all of the droolability drying up right then and there.
Nicola Davidson is an auto-buy for me. I loved the first two books in this series and couldn't wait for 'Prince of Scandal'. I adored Ashton and Georgiana together. These two were serious and playful, sexy and sweet. A perfect contrast for one another and I loved them as much as Lilian and her duke and Pippa and her marquess.
The dowager countess is one of the all time notorious villains of romance. I hate her with all my heart. I'm hoping she gets more comeuppance with Xavier's book. I also can't wait to find out what exactly Xavier has been up to and who he works for.
Nicola Davidson is always in my top 3 of favorite authors. I always get immersed in her stories. This book held my interest from beginning to end. The writing and pacing are excellent. I think it’s about the cinnamon roll Prince from Bridgerton (wink). I love the characters and the journey of their relationship. The spanky parts were my favorite. I could have used one more scene. Swoon.
I really wanted to love this book but I was just SO hopelessly BORED!? like the sex was explicit but bland, the characters were weak and forgettable and it really slowed down and I had to slog through to the end. Not my favorite for sure.
PLOT:
Georgiana (Gigi) is set to the country to weather scandal (and make sure she's not pregnant) when she is found with her lover in a coat closet. When she meets her next door neighbor, Ashton (actually a Prussian prince) she decides he'll be her next paramour. This begins a raunchy liaison with a twist.
THOUGHTS:
- I wanted to love Gigi but honestly I couldn't connect to her. She's 19 and supposed to be kind of sheltered and young with an outgoing personality, but really all she did was trust the wrong man and get compromised. She's not particularly funny, bright or interesting and her only thing was being really into spanking.... Ok?
I personally found it REALLY unlikely that such a sheltered society miss was so sexually experienced / into sub stuff so quickly. From what we read, she's coupled with her previous partner a few times because he wanted to and she wasn't really into it and she never came. Now she meets a random dude and they do anal right away and she's totally fine? Like what?
- then there's Wilhelm, or Ashton as we know him. He's basically a 30 something year old guy who's hiding out in the middle of nowhere pretending he's not a prince. He doesn't have much personality aside from being dominant, stern and really into spanking and her huge breasts? Like ok that's a bit of a letdown.
- then there's the smut..... I literally read the book for that and it was .... Ok I guess? Really nothing special, some half hearted spankings and some anal, really not much else until the end.
- lastly the story was really lacking to me. I kept reading thinking it would get better but it was just SO boring. There's a few twists and capers and a kidnapping and it's all written in such a dull, uninspiring fashion it felt like a chore to get through. And then there's that whole side plot with the disguises and Ashton's previous lover knowing her ex? Ugh. Not my thing.
Nicola Davidson was always one of my favorite authors but I noticed over the last couple years she hasn't put out as many books has she had in previous years. This is the 24th book by her and I have been reading her since 2017. Not a fan of anthologies and I have noticed she had some of those out.
It's strange that this series has spanned so many years. Book 1, Duke in Darkness was written in Feb, 2019. But I do have to say it was one of my favorites by her. I have noticed over the last few years that I don’t enjoy the S&M, dominate male or female like I used to. As I mentioned, I did love book 1 in this series but I read it in 2019.
I found nothing endearing about Georgiana. She was a spoiled brat. I just couldn’t come to like her. I liked Ashton okay. Overall, okay read.
Georgiana, a hellion, and the youngest Nash daughter, gets caught with a despicable cretin in the coatroom. She is banished to a cottage near Norwich.
Living alone in exile, hiding from scandal is infinitely better than living with her grandmother, Lady Kingsbury. Despite being scorned and put in her place by the two older granddaughters, Lady Kingsbury is even more outrageous and abusive to nineteen old Georgiana.
Xavier Nash, Lord Northam, played a mysterious role in the second book while he was accompanying prudish Lord Campbell in his quest to shut down the pleasure toy establishment, Bliss. In this book, he chases after the aforementioned cretin who scandalized his sister all the way to France.
Georgiana makes acquaintances with her new neighbors and country town folk. Just as she's starting to enjoy life in the country, all hell breaks loose. . . scorching passion, blackmail, unlikely friendships, and visitors unexpectedly arrive from London. Grandmother, Lady Kingsbury, the devil incarnate, reveals her plans for Georgiana to spend the rest of her life in hell on earth!
The MC, Ashton is a wonderful person. He has his old wounds, secrets, and big surprises that make him a very interesting character. The frequency of intimate acts, the length on the page, and the explicit descriptions are perfectly steamy for me 🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️ The HEA is made in heaven 💗
I’ve steered clear of Nicola Davidson’s work for a while, as much of it is categorized as erotica, and I tend to prefer a stronger balance between storyline and romance. This particular book was recommended to me because of its kink elements, so I decided to finally give her a try.
I was pleasantly surprised by the solid plot. However, the sexual content didn’t quite work for me—it felt a bit over the top. I absolutely understand the appeal of dirty talk or open discussions about preferences between partners, but the constant requests for spanking in nearly every scene became repetitive and, honestly, a bit cringeworthy.
When I started this series, I did not know that it was Erotica (I should read the tags) and I was more focused on the subgenre itself. I did enjoy it so much that I wanted to try the third one in the series, while still enjoying some of the characters from the first book. Unfortunately, it was not as good as the first one, and my main issue was that I don’t think that the relationship between the FMC and MMC was as developed. They had many fun moments, but their dialogue was lacking so I did not really care about either of them. The ending was left open a little for one of the characters, but I am not interested in continuing.
Ugh this book is so hot. On fire. En fuego. I loved the first half with the relationship being built up. The second half was bogged down a little by the dastardly villain. Don’t get me wrong I love to hate a good villain, but I wanted him to get out of the way so we could get back to the main couple. Would have loved for the evil grandma to really get her comeuppance too. Love this series and can’t wait for the brother’s book.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I did not like strong-willed, impulsive Gigi in the first two stories and had little sympathy for her at the beginning of this but I really liked Ashton and the further into the story, the more intrigued I was. I really enjoyed the steamy sex scenes. Love the climax when the villain got what he deserved. A bit sappy at the end but I love how things wrapped up. Very satisfying ending.
I just adore Nicola Davidson's books. Raunchy, naughty, spicy, I can think of lots of adjectives I could use,but the stories sell themselves. The comely young Georgiana is in exile. As is Ashton, Prince of Prussia. Neither knows the truth about the other, but as love drags them together, someone has to start telling the truth. Well written, I loved Georgiana's spiritedness, and Ashton's sternness.
I've been anticipating the third installment of the Wickedly Wed series. Gigi Kingston avoids scandal by abandoning London for the British country where she meets an excited Prussian prince and they fall in love. It met all my expectation with perfect blends of intrigue, sensuality, and historical detail.
The type of dom-sub relationship the author attempts here fell pretty flat IMO because there wasn't enough tension and longing built up between the characters before they launched into their affair. They both felt like strangers (to the reader) and so the sex scenes felt...awkward and a bit boring? It's not a bad book it's just kind of meh.
In my grand tradition, I have read the third book in a series first, and what an incredible introduction to this world it was! I enjoyed the characters and the plot very much. It moved quickly and was extremely entertaining.
A enjoyed reading Georgiana and Ashton story. Truly a match that challenges each other. Supporting characters like, Xavier (Georgiana’s brother) Sir Alan and his fiancé and the other Nash sisters made for a fantastic combination. I hope to read Xavier’s story in the very near future. I am now a massive fan of Nicola Davidson👏🏽👏🏽
Everyone has a past and lies about their past. She was hiding and he was hiding from the London Ton. With secrets, danger, murder and treachery they find each other.
Another triumph for Davidson! The Wickedly Wed series has been the standard by which I judge all other steamy historical series. And the author keeps upping the bar with each book!
Lady Georgiana was so well-drawn, so dimensional. I did not expect to be sympathetic to a flighty 19-year-old, but I was. Ashton started out feeling a little stodgy, but he quickly became one of my favorite historical heroes.
Some of the side characters almost out-shined the main characters. Ashton's valet/assistant/friend Franz was a delight. He was so stalwart, and such a stickler. I think one of my favorite micro-tropes of historical romance is the ride-or-die butler/valet/lady's maid. Franz was certainly such a fellow. Georgiana's country bestie Phoebe was a hoot as well, for just the opposite reasons. Despite being the vicar's daughter, if breaking a rule or dismissing a tradition would work better for her, then that's what Phoebe did. Her brain-to-mouth filter was quite ineffectual, but her heart was in the right place.
Lots of humor, *lots* of steam, plus plenty of adventure make this layered story an absolute must-read for any fan of steamy historical romance.
