The Rags to Romance Series #14

Daniel's Girl: Romancing an Older Man

Rate this book
High-powered corporate attorney Daniel Crane never dreamed he’d fall in love with a woman twenty years his junior. After a disastrous marriage that ended in divorce and numerous dead-end relationships, he wasn’t looking to fall in love with anyone. But when he meets Nikki Graham, a smart, feisty, African-American journalist, he falls hard.

But it isn’t an easy ride. Her numerous crusades and need to get that big story reporting style often conflicts with his more conservative pedigree. He constantly finds himself in an ongoing battle of wills as he struggles to keep her safe from her own youthful dares without curbing that wonderful thirst for life that made him fall in love with her in the first place. But when forces from without seek to undermine their relationship, Daniel realizes that it is going to take all of his considerable power and reach to protect his beloved Nikki, only to painfully discover that some things are even beyond his reach and influence.

From the national bestselling author Mallory Monroe comes a sweet May-December romance where it’s all about love and what one man is willing to risk to protect the young woman who quickly becomes the love of his life.

Not better, Just Longer

After seeing blurbs for a newer and updated version if this book, I decided to re-read the original. For the first half of the book, I thought it was a lot better than Ms. Monroe's latest books. It seemed as if this book had so much more going on. The plot wasn't thin, the characters well developed, and the sex added to the storyline and didn't overwhelm it; or so I thought.

However, after about 60%, the sex became more frequent and more graphic. As more characters were introduced, their back stories were almost nonexistent. Their inclusion made little sense and their development was stunted. Of course the sex was increasingly more frequent, overwhelming the storyline.

The book jumped from one point of view to another so often, I often lost track of who was talking. It became increasingly difficult to understand the attraction the main characters had for each other. No matter what was happening, they simply had more and more sex.

The book went downhill and I found it increasingly difficult to continue reading. The newer version may have been better but I doubt it. However, it was longer and the old version was too long and disjointed. The sample of the "new and improved" version gave no indication that it was better. I was never invested in any of the characters. They all had their own nonsensical agendas, leaving me disappointed.

Great love story

This was a great love story because it had action adventure, sadness, happiness, but through it all they stuck together as a couple even though they had their up and downs they hung in their together. Great read.

Somebody always wants something that doesn't belong to them

And somebody always needs to learn that revenge is a dish best-served cold. Melanie had to learn that lesson. No matter how many people tried to tell Daniel Crane that Nikita "Nikki" Graham was just too young for him, it still did not quench the love he felt for her. And, no matter how many phone calls and photographs Nikki saw, she may have wavered a bit but it still did not kill the love she felt for Daniel. Melanie Chandler may have thought she was smart enough to pull off her scheme but what she did not count on was an unwavering love Nikki and Daniel had for each other. They may have wavered for a while due to outside pressure, but in the end, that pressure made them stronger for each other. After four years, Daniel finally realized that he'd better put a claim on Nikki because he did not want to live without her. Nikki finally matured and grew up to see their relationship through grown eyes. What really made me fall in love with Daniel was his strength to resist temptation and stand strong in his love for Nikki. I was so happy to see that neither one of them succumbed to outside temptation as it was thrown at them relentlessly. Even though they may have been mad at each other, there was still only love for the other.

Luke Finley and Melanie Chandler, in the end, lost everything due to their scheming.

Still a good read

I read the original book years ago (2015). Except for the minor details in the plot, it is still a good mystery. It is a great May-December romance of two people so different but so in love with each other. They stood strong in that love, wavering only a bit when others threw in their own agendas to get back at them for something they were not responsible for. I loved Niki's relationship with her BFF Val. When she was doubting herself and Daniel, he was the voice of reason. Even though Niki was always doing something to keep him riled up, he could not imagine life without her. She was the only woman that wanted him for him and not for his looks, money, or status. She was a compassionate woman with ethics. She was a friend to the friendless, idealistic, beautiful, and smart and she was all his, his to protect. She was the only woman who made him reconsider his no-marriage vow.

I just love how Mallory just teases the reader along and reveals everything she'd been giving tidbits about until the very end.

Rollercoaster Story!!!

This story went from great at the beginning, to irritatingly boring in the middle, to frustrating by the end!! Plus how could Daniel and Nikki (who was by the way needed to grow up) both not see who the "very obvious" villains in this story was was!!!! The 2 stars was for all those reasons, but would have been a 1 star if those last couple of pages of this story's ending wasn't so cute.

worst book of the series

This to me was the worst book of the rags to romance series. Daniel was an awesome well written character however Nikki was not. I looked to this series because usually both lead characters are strong. Nikki was weak minded throughout the whole book. She was a selfish brat. Beware if you are looking for a strong black female lead. This is not the book for you.

Daniel’s Girl

I love everything about this author’s books, and this story was no different. Didn’t expect the ending but I’m so glad it did; Daniel and his girl got their happy ending. Ms. Monroe is probably my favorite author. I love love her books. Suspense, action, love, and sexy scenes.

Intense storyline

Daniel’s and Nikita’s story was extremely moving in so many ways. For Nikita’s POV demonstrated how resilience and perseverance can come through the fire, but tragedy can be just as impactful. Daniel’s POV started off a self-centered and wary. However in the end he let love prevail! This is yet another blockbuster for Mallory!

Nikki graham smart and feisty?, maybe in the beginning before she went out with Daniel Crane a few years later she seemed immature.

Poor Daniel always seemed to be watching out for her but she didn't even know it.

I wish I had read passion in their love making instead of just grinding sex.

Loved Daniel Crane. He's my type of hero. Strong, brooding, handsome, madly in love with Nikki. Nikki, I enjoyed also, but wanted to smack her at times for her immaturity. Good story. Will definitely read more of Mallory Monroe.

Not a good representation of her work.

I did not enjoy the flow of events within the book. It was too busy had too many stories going on at 1 time I just didn't like the flow .

I knew this was a winner!

The plot, main characters, and best friend lived up to the hype created by the reading g sample. For a fun, wild, and intense ride with adult humor... this IS THE ONE to read! Well done!

I love this book

I choice this rating because the book surprised me. It had everything, a May and September relationship, revenge and a relationship sabotage. But loved prevailed.

This was my second time 📚 reading Daniel's girl. I didn't review first time. There is nothing Mallory can write that I won't enjoy.
