Sometimes, I wish I weren't a Hawke...especially because I'm in love with one.
Years of living on the streets taught me one hard lesson…
Don’t trust anyone.
People are inherently bad and will do bad things any chance they get.
So, when the Hawkes took me under their wings…
I put up walls so high that no one could ever climb over them.
Most stopped trying.
It was the way I liked it.
Locked away in my own little world.
Protected from anything that could hurt me.
But the very person I try so hard to keep out is the only one I want to let in.
I dream about her touch.
Crave her in a way I have no right to.
She’s my best friend’s older sister.
No matter what…I have to keep my hands off Angelina...
Because she's a Hawke.

Reticent Hawke is the second installment in Gwyn McNamee’s Billionaires of New Orleans: The Hawke Family Second Generation series. This emotional story follows Jude, the adopted son of Lucas and Bryon, who hasn’t attended any Hawke family events or left his house for two years because his past keeps haunting him. He struggles with severe anxiety that makes it impossible for him to venture outside without experiencing a panic attack. Instead, he stays home, attempting to write while secretly watching the one person he has had a crush on for years.

Angelina is unsure of what’s happening with Jude; all she knows is that she feels his gaze on her while she works at the coffee shop each day. She realizes he is closed off to everyone in the family except for her younger sister. When her sister doesn’t come home one day and refuses to tell her the truth about where she is, Angelina reaches out to Jude for help. This is when she begins to uncover the truth about Jude and learns that it’s up to her to assist him. Meanwhile, the family is also dealing with their own challenges from Falco Enterprises, which could jeopardize Angelina’s coffee shop.

Both characters in this story are broken in different ways. You’ll find out why Jude suffers from panic attacks and can’t leave his house, and it all stems down to what he was put through with his biological father. Then, there’s Angelina, who misses her father every day after what happened to him. (You’ll need to read the previous series in order to get a better understanding, but Gwyn McNamee touches on it in this book with what happened.) She also is dealing with the possible competition of another coffee shop in her area due to Falco Enterprises. She’s stressed, and she needs someone there for her once, and I’m glad she finds it with Jude.

This book will take you on an emotional roller coaster as you experience the ups and downs of both characters and the drama surrounding the Hawke family. In the end, the happy ending for Jude and Angelina is well worth it. Be sure to have some tissues handy because Gwyn McNamee knows how to evoke deep emotions for both of these characters. I thoroughly enjoyed their love story, even though it was sometimes hard to read the struggles Jude faced and the challenges Angelina had to confront. These two characters were clearly meant to be together.

Overall, another great installment in the second-generation series, and I give it four stars. I look forward to continuing my binge-read through this series so I can catch up before the last book is released.

Single/Dual POV: Dual POV.

So I finished this book and had to take a little time before I was able to write my review because of all the emotions Gwyn McNamee put into this book...

Reticent Hawke is the second book in the Hawkes second generation and they are giving you reasons to never forget about them.

This story follows Jude who at 10 years old was adopted by Luca and Byron, family members the Hawkes have chosen. We don't know much of Jude's past, just that he has been hurt horribly and is unwilling to trust new people easily. Somehow through it all Allie (one of the younger Hawkes) is the one who forms an instant connection with Jude and these two become thicker than thieves growing up. It's there he meets Angelina for the first time- she's the oldest Hawke daughter and has stolen Jude's little heart from the beginning.

Fast forward quite a few years and Jude has stopped attending family events over the last few years- claiming he's knee deep in his writing. But as Angelina has come to discover that is not the truth. He is plagued with crippling anxiety and panic attacks at the thought of even leaving his apartment. Jude is also harbouring another secret- the feelings he's had for Angie for years. Angie on the other hand has kept her heart closed off from love due to a major loss in her past and seeing how it affected her mother.

Throw in some family drama- because the Hawkes are never drama free and someone who is trying to sabotage their family. This becomes an emotionally and heart breaking read of two different people who are broken for different reasons, finding their way to each other for their own HEA.

As always a kudos to Gwyn for being able to capture the character's emotional turmoil while drawing readers into their world of self-discovery.

Reticent Hawke🥹

Reticent Hawke is the second book in the second generation of Hawkes. This one is slightly different in that Jude is adopted by Luca and Byron who are Hawkes by connection only…but as they say sometimes family is more than blood❣️

Jude has stopped attending family events over the last few years, claiming that he’s writing - but as Angelina comes to discover - there is a lot more to this story😳 Angelina has tried to keep her heart protected after losing her father when she was little…unfortunately or more like fortunately, there is one man who might be able to sway her and she might be able to help him fight his demons too❤️

Can’t wait to find out what’s happening with Allie and find out who has it out for the Hawkes🤔

Reticent Hawke is the second installment of the A Second Generation Hawke Family Novel by Gwyn McNamee and it's amazing! The writing was just awesome, the detail, how much you could really feel what they were feeling. The chemistry and tension, just off the charts!!

Angelina is the oldest of the second Hawke generation. She runs the The Daily Grind, and it's her life. When her sister starts acting differently, she is forced to start visiting the member of the Hawke Family that always seems to think he's an outsider. The proximity she's previously avoided might just change her life.

Jude is the secretive one. We got to know a little bit about him in Isaac and Jack's story, but what a mystery! This story gives you the insight into his brain that you didn't know you wanted!

I loved Jude and Angelina and reading about them going through their personal struggles but still finding a way to each other! This novel was outstanding, and I cannot wait for the Hawkes!

Wow Angelina and Jude’s book was outstanding! It’s emotional, heart breaking, two people broken for different reasons finding their way to each other. Jude is lost, hiding away from his family believing they wouldn’t want him as he is for reasons no one would understand. Allie, his best friend is his lifeline, but the true love of his life is her sister Angelina and he’s been pining away for her for years. Angelina and Jude both feel the intense spark between them and there’s no denying it. Allie has a secret and I’m itching to know more. Someone has it out for the Hawkes and it’s getting dangerous for all of them. This was such a great read and I can’t wait for Kennedy’s book.

Younger Man/Older Woman Romance with Angst
Hmmm. I'm not sure what to say about this book. It was a well written book but it also didn't hit my buttons even though it should have. I'm curious in the next in the series but I wasn't in joy when reading it. But I might rec it depending on the request because it truly is a well written book but some of the book magic just didn't hit or flame for me.

Putting the 4 in 4bidden:

The forbidden love aspect was folded well within the story. Jude was adopted in the family making tye love birds cousins but he was always stand-offish and excluded himself afraid of the other show dropping or feeling he isn't good enough to love due to trauma. Ange was always his protector. Even when she didn't realize it. She overwork and never gives love a chance due to her trauma of losing her father at 5 yrs old.

The age gap was gaping:

Jude always loved her. Since he was 10 yrs old and she was always his protector since she was 22. The story begins when he's 25 to her 37 but they clearly fill in the missing pieces of one another. The reverse age gap trope was used well here. It wasn't icky. It took presidency over the whole story. It made sense for the h to feel a way about the relationship. It didnt feel wrong in the icky way but we could feel the enormity of their situation.

Mental Health Rep 🤌🏾:

The author did an expert job with presenting extreme social anxiety and agoraphobia. Jude really did shut down based on the trauma he received at the hands of his father. And watching how his love for the Ange gave him strength to get over boundaries was touching. It's the subtle but strong way to show obsession.

The 👎🏾side:

My biggest holdback is that the story was told so melodramatically but not in a fun telanovela way. Just in a "GASP!" Way. So much emotional weight was given. So much word tax was presented just for these roadblocks that didn't feel like they should be. Jude not wanting Ange to read his book. My dark romance fangirlie heart just knew he was admitting to some super serious dark stuff. Nope not at all 😄. The best friend/FMCs sister being all secretive and catalyst for their claiming had me thinking she was processing a noncon relationship but Nope nothing that sinister 😅. It all just made the story feel bigger than it was.

And then there was smex:

The funsies with "mine" or obsession didn't feel hot. It didn't add to any sexy steam in the story like I'm used it. It felt fine. Jude used sexy words before sex. But his character felt a little neutered in some ways. Not due to his trauma or mental health steuggles but just something in his character felt like it was lacking that pop. The h was cool chick. She was the right balance of characteristics. I really liked her but she also seemed fuzzy in my mind so the sex didn't feel branded searing hot.

All in all...will I rec it? Sure....will I read the next book? Maybe...was this top read? No, not really.

Good morning. What a way to start a book, Hehe. I am in love with this series having read the prequel and book one I had been counting down the days until this book finally came out and I had a chance to read it. Jude and Angelina were mentioned in the previous books but not in depth. Finally, we get to see inside Jude’s world and discover why he is so recluse and the heartbreak of his first ten years of life before the Hawkes rescued him.
Jude had been a Hawke for twelve years, and from the very beginning Angelina had stolen his heart. After a life of nothing but pain and fear he had finally found someone that made him feel safe, accepted, and cared for. Angelina is the eldest Hawke second generation, her coffee shop is thriving, but the problems start stacking up quickly in her world. Allie, Jude’s best friend and Angelina’s younger sister, is suddenly more unreliable than ever. Always late, missing and not showing up where she should be when she should be. Fear and worry force Jude to text Angelina and be in the same room with her for the first time in two years. She is the literal dream girl that chases away his nightmares and yet that is all she can ever be, in his dreams. Everything about him captured Angelina’s attention and like Jude it has only grown with the years. Cassius of course once again rears his handsome evil face when Falco Enterprises purchases the space the Hawkes have wanted for years. To make matters worse, they plan to open a coffee shop, just down the street from Angelina’s, Hawkes Daily Grind. Taking place roughly four months after book one, the previous idea of an art gallery/studio comes up by Isaac. What if they have a grand opening the same day or shortly before to steal the attention away from the Falco coffee shop. Only problem, the space is across from Angelinas and is Jude’s space for his dream of owning a bookshop only it has been three years since the lot was purchased and still nothing has been opened or even shows signs of something to come.
Will Jude ever get the courage to finally tell Angelina how he feels about her? Why has Allie been disappearing? Can Jude overcome his fears and finally live the life he wants to have? Once again, the talented Gwyn McNamee has captured my heart from page one leaving me on the edge of my seat as I rush to the end to find out how it all ends. The ever-evolving world she has created, how it continues to grow revealing more information and secrets along the way. The depth of the characters and how deep their pain and trauma go. Her ability to show the vulnerability of each character and them overcoming their trauma to find the life they crave and deserve leaves you with the feel goods when you reach the last page. Can’t wait for book three to see what the Hawkes will face and overcome next in Relentless Hawke, October 26th, 2023. Who captured Cassius Whitakers cold black heart?

In "Reticent Hawke" by Gwyn McNamee, readers are plunged into a world where trust is scarce and emotions are tangled in a web of conflicting loyalties. The novel delves into the complicated dynamics of the Hawke family and the struggles faced by its newest member, a young man who has learned to build walls around his heart to protect himself from a harsh world.

The story's protagonist has endured a life on the streets, where survival has taught him to be wary of human intentions. When he finds himself taken in by the Hawke family, he maintains his reticence, steadfastly guarding his emotions. However, amidst his resolve to remain distant, an unexpected force begins to pull at his heart – Angelina, his best friend's older sister. The attraction he feels is undeniable, a desire that transcends boundaries and social norms.

Gwyn McNamee skillfully navigates the complexities of love and loyalty in the face of adversity. The characters are well-developed, each grappling with their past traumas and personal demons. The tension between the protagonist's yearning for Angelina and his loyalty to his friend creates a riveting conflict that propels the narrative forward.

The author's prose captures the emotional turmoil of the characters, drawing readers into their world of longing and self-discovery. As the story unfolds, the forbidden nature of the relationship adds layers of tension, making "Reticent Hawke" a page-turner that keeps readers invested until the very end.

McNamee's exploration of themes such as trust, forgiveness, and the power of love resonates deeply, making this contemporary romance not just about passion, but about personal growth and healing. The intricate interplay of emotions and the unfolding danger that neither protagonist sees coming add an additional layer of suspense, keeping the reader engaged throughout.

"Reticent Hawke" is a gripping addition to The Hawke Family Second Generation Series, offering a blend of angsty romance, intricate family dynamics, and the timeless struggle between the heart and the mind. Fans of forbidden love and emotionally charged narratives will find themselves captivated by this story of two souls entangled in a love that defies both expectations and the barriers they've erected.

Jude has always been in the shadows of this big family, although not a true Hawke the love and friendship this family has offered has been unfiltered, but the past still haunts him and he always feel like he does not deserve this as his past is horrific and if only they knew he would be discarded like the trash he perceives he is. Although there has always been a shining light, an angel of sorts that has always calmed him and although she is a Hawke he does not feel worthy of her or her love.

Angelina has always been the old soul, having to deal with her father's death at six years old will do that to you, but when Jude arrived that Christmas Day when he was ten years old, lost and hiding in the closet she had an instant reaction to him of protection, not a mother's protection but an attraction she has always played down.

Move on fifteen years and Jude is not the ten year old boy he is a man and with his attraction for Angelina growing every time he sees her, but the only problem is his anxiety and Panic attacks are at the all time high. Angelina is frustrated with Jude she does not fully understand his side, she knows he is hiding something but can he trust her and can she love him the way she wants too.

I love this series and the first generation and am so excited that I finally get to read Jude's story. Over the series you see some of the horrific past of Jude but now understanding the whole story it is just heart breaking and no wonder he feels so broken. Angelina has also had her fair share of heartache aswell and trying to reconcile that she stills loves her dad who past away with the step dad in Landon who she loves just as much but feels like a betrayal.

The story as always is brilliantly written and flows wonderfully, the characters as always are rich and full with heart and passion which jumps off the page and I loved reading the relationship grow between Jude and Angelina. In all the stories I feel like I am part of the family and are transported along with each emotion which grips you till the end.

I really can't wait until the next instalment, hoping Allie's story or Astrid. Please Please Please lol.

This book is a part of the Second Generation Hawke Saga. It is a story of love, family and friendship. It is also about breaking down walls within ourselves, to allow the true person inside us come out and let others in. It is about realizing that blood doesn’t make you a family, feelings make you a family. Gwyn has written another great installment of The Hawke Family Second Generation series.

Jude has had feelings and an obsession with Angelina for a long time. The problem is Angelina is his best friend Alessi’s sister. Jude has been through a lot in his short life. When some of his problems were discovered when he was a kid, his best friend Alessi's family took him in. Because of his experiences in life, he suffers from agoraphobia. He also has a passion for Alessi's sister that he holds close to his heart and a fear of how people may look at him if they found out. Despite his phobia, Jude will do anything he can to support Alessi or Angelina and share his love and appreciation however he can.

Angelina has experienced a lot of loss in her life, starting with her father dying when she was 5. So to avoid that kind of heartache as an adult, she has blocked herself off from relationships. She has her sister, her cousins and the rest of her family and Jude.

Angelina and Jude must come together to determine what is going on with Alessi. Alessi has been missing for several days. She’s been lying, avoiding conversations, coming in late to work and overall just not being herself. As Angelina and Jude come together to figure out what is going on with Alessi, the pull that they feel towards each other, gets harder and harder to resist. They are perfect for each other!!

You don't need to read the first generation books to understand what’s happening in this one, but I guarantee that once you get into this series, you will want to go back and read them! These books are all so colorful and well written that I am most definitely hooked on this series and this family. The entire Hawke family offer captivating stories, romance, danger, intensity, familial support, love, friendship, traditions and much more. I sometimes wish I could be a part of the Hawke family!!

It is hard to qualify what this book really is. It is a part of the Hawke Saga. It is a story of love, family and friendship. It is also about breaking down walls within ourselves to allow the true us to be. It is about realizing that blood doesn’t make you family, feelings make you family.

Jude has more secrets than he can count. Some he shared with his best friend since they were 10, Alessi or Al. Some he has never told anyone, and he has no plans to. One secret that is bubbling to the top is his love, his obsession with the only woman he has ever had those kinds of feelings for, Angie. On the top of the list of problems of a chance at a relationship with Angie is that she is Alessi’s sister. Sure, there is a 12 year age age but that shouldn’t be an issue. The issue is that she is family.

Angelina or Angie has experienced a lot of loss in her life, starting with her father when she was 5. So to avoid that kind of feeling as an adult, Angie has blocked herself off from relationships. She has her sister, her cousins, the rest of her family and Jude. Although she avoids being around Jude because of the pull she feels towards him, Angie knows that he is always there.

Right now, Angie and Jude must come together to determine what is going on with Alessi. Alessi has been MIA several days, lying, avoiding conversations, coming in late to work and overall not being herself. As Angie and Jude band together to figure out what is going on with Alessi, the pull that they feel towards each other gets harder to resist. Is being together worth the risk of recrimination from the family and possibly losing the relationship with Alessi? Can Angie and Jude figure out what is going on with Alessi and help her?

I want a chair with my name on it at Nana’s table. This family is awesome, full of love and support. They might disagree or even argue but they are always there for each other when the coffee spills or secrets need to be buried. Beautiful. Wonderful. Steamy! I didn’t want it to end.

I just love me some of these Hawke men 😍🫣🔥😉🤪

Allie and Jude share a special bond and they have since they were children and she gets him better than most people but something is up with the both of them ….

Allie takes Jude his coffee every morning and it really irks Angelina and sometimes she feels Jude monopolises Allie’s time but there’s so much she needs to learn and again I’m reminded not to assume anything in life and communication really is key 😉

Jude has a dark and very sad history and he’s a fiercely private man and some may call him aloof but once you know his story you just want to envelope him and hold on to him and never let go and he’s always held a flame for Angelina , she’s owned his heart since the first time their eyes met and nobody knows not even Angelina herself and it’s got nothing to do with the big age gap between them ….

Allie’s strange behaviour brings Jude and Angelina together to figure out what’s going on and try to help her but there’s also the looming threat of “ The Grind” so there’s alot going on and throw in the tension brewing between Angelina and Jude and you’re in for the best 420 pages ❣️📚

I love that Byron and Luca bought Jude a building where he could have a bookstore under and live above the store where he could write and study but with him not using it there’s the possibility of it being part gallery for Jack and I think the pressure is on because Jude has been dragging his feet with his dark secret 🥲

Nana stole my heart and man she’s a gem 💎 but I’ll be honest I cried buckets and what my people have been through but every storm cloud has a silver lining right !?

Something that will stay with me as it really hit my heart “ Family isn’t just blood , Al . It’s our love for each other . It’s what we’re willing to do for each other that makes us family ….”

I’ll be honest I was still left with a few unanswered questions regarding Allie and the looming threats against the Hawkes …..

Reticent Hawke is the Second Book in The Hawke Family Second Generation Series. This is a forbidden romance, older woman, friends to lover’s story told from multiple POV’s. The story centers around the characters of Jude and Angelina. Jude was not born into the Hawke family but was adopted by them, so he is considered family. He had a rough childhood which has left him traumatized and weary of human touch. Angelina/Angie is a member of the Hawke family and is 12 years older than Jude. She is the only person who has been able to reach Jude and the only person that he feels comfortable with. Angie and Jude feel a very strong connection and bond between them that goes beyond being family. They are intensely attracted to one another and find it hard to work through the feelings they have towards one another.

This book was beautifully written and took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The characters of Jude and Angie were instantly lovable and relatable, and the storyline hit close to home for me. As an older woman who met, fell in love, and married a younger man I can fully understand society’s view of this type of a relationship. It is socially acceptable for older men to date younger women but not necessarily the other way around. My husband is fifteen years my junior and even I struggled with the age gap and how society would view our relationship. The author did a wonderful job of writing about this reverse age gap romance. I found myself rooting for Jude and Angie to be together. This book has angst, drama, passion, family, hope, romance, tension, and love. I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series! I highly recommend this book!

This is the second book in the Second Generation of Hawke series. I have loved every book in this series. These romances are more than a romance. They are stories of family, friendships, danger, past traumas and the effects they have on a person.
In this story we are with Jude and Angelina. Jude was taken into the Hawke family at the age of 10 but because if his past he constantly pushed everyone away to protect himself including the one person he really wants close Angelina.
Angelina is the oldest sister to Jude's best friend Allie. She can sense something is troubling Jude but she has never been close enough to him to find out what.
When Allie starts to go MIA, missing work, lying about where she is and who she is with it and generally just not being herself it leads Jude and Angelina to work together to figure what is going on with her. Untied in the need to help someone they care about the more time they spend together the more they realise their attraction to each other.
Both Jude and Angelina have suffered in their lives, both have built high walls of protection around themselves but what happens when those walls start to come down.
This is a story about 2 people who have been emotionally damaged but who are trying to rebuild their lives. There is also the danger of the enemy that is still trying to wrestle control and bring down the Hawke Family that puts all of them in danger but the main focus for me was how Jude started to blossom and grow the more he allowed Angelina in.
I can't wait to see what happens next. What is Allie playing at? Who is she with and why is it such a secret?

Wow, Jude has been through a lot in his short life. When some of his problems were discovered while he was a kid, his best friend Alessi's family took him in. His experiences in his early life lead to a lot for him. Agoraphobia, a passion for Alessi's sister that he holds close to his heart, and a fear for how people may look at him if they found out.

Despite his phobia, Jude will do anything he can to be supportive of Al or Angie to share his love and appreciation however he can. When Al starts telling lies, avoiding contact, showing up late to work and going MIA, he and Angie work together to get to the bottom of what's going on - and with Jude and Angie being together regularly, their pull starts to do what they've both been trying to avoid for so long - make them crave one another more and more.

This isn't a storyline you see often, with an older woman being the object of a younger mans desire, and it was a new POV for me that I enjoyed. There were a lot of things being dangled throughout the book that basically were inconclusive, or rushed to a conclusion. The rest of the book was good enough I'd read again even though I felt a few aspects had more potential than they were given and felt like an afterthought.

The Hawke family in both generations offer captivating stories, romance, danger, intensity, familial support, love, friendship, tradition and more. The opportunities that arise in each addition to the series stay interesting and easy to read, offering intrigue and desire to see what happens next.

Gwyn has done it again! Just like all the other books of her's that I have read, this one captures you in it's grip and you don't even care. Until the book ends and you can't wait for more! You don't need to read the first generation to read this one, but let me tell you that once you get into these you will want to go back and read them! They are all so, so good! So, just trust me and read them all!! LOL. And make sure you read the prequels too! So much good stuff in them all! Reticent Hawke is about Angie and Jude's story. This one was so gripping. You get to learn more about the allusive Jude who was kind of adopted into the family. He hates being apart of the family, but that's because he loves one of them. He sits in his window, hidden away from everyone, watching. Jude had a very horrible start to life and because of it he has locked himself away. Building up walls to keep people away from him. Allie is the exception. She is his best friend and one of the only people to see him in person in two years. When Allie starts to act weird and disappears for days he and Angie team up to find out what's going on. Even when she comes clean she's hiding something and they both know it. Getting to the bottom of her secrets is going to be tricky. To top it off a pesky company is gunning for Angie's coffee shop along with the other Hawke family businesses. Will they finally find out who is behind it? Boy oh boy! I don't want to give anything away, but you have to read this one!! Curl up with a drink, some tissues, and get ready to get sucked in!

I absolutely love just about everything Gwyn McNamee writes and this is no exception!

This is the second book in the "The Hawke Family Second Generation" series. While it can be read as standalone, I do highly suggest not only reading the Book 1 in the Second-Generation, but also reading all of the books in the First-Generation Hawke Family. There is a ton of useful information in all of the books that make the reading experience that much better and easier to make deeper connections.

This is book includes tropes such as forbidden romance, billionaires, reverse age gap (The woman is older), Best friends' older sister. There is a good bit of angsty, spicy romance scenes that are AMAZING! One of the main points, the author, Gwyn, is trying to get across is that blood doesn't necessarily make you family, your heart and the love you share makes you family.

The forbidden romance is between Jude, who technically is not a Hawke, but has been best friends with Alessi since they were 10, and Alessi's older sister Angelina (Angie). Alessi and Angelina are the children of Storm Hawke.

Jude has only ever had one obsession, one woman who stands taller than all of the rest, and it is the one person who he cannot have. He is teetering hard on whether or not he should keep ignoring his feelings for Angie, or if it is time to come clean and hopefully have a shot at his happily ever after -- his family PLUS the girl.

Angie pretty much despises relationships, and always has due to losing her father at such a young age. But she cannot deny the insane pull she has to Jude - who is also forbidden, he is technically family after all.

In the midst of Angie's sibling Alessi going missing, lying about small things, avoiding family members. Her and Jude now have to work side by side to figure out what the heck is going on. Now that they are together regularly, that pull, and connection only grows stronger. They both have had so many obstacles and more heartache than a person should deal with, but neither allow themselves to open up which causes them to be misunderstood quite a bit.

Prepare to be captivated by this series, as Gwyn never fails to deliver a compelling storyline filled with romance, danger, family, love, and angst. But what truly sets this series apart is the emotional rollercoaster it takes you on as a reader. Each book allows you to intimately know the characters, every word resonating with you long after you've finished reading.

I cannot wait for the 3rd book to come out!

Angelina is the oldest of The Hawke Family Second Generation, so she tends to try to take care of people, like her younger sister, who starts to act way out of character (even for her) and she can't figure out what is going on. Little sister is best friends with Jude, whose life before the Hawke Family was horrifying to say the least, and it left a mark on this poor man. Jude also sees that his best friend (Angelina's sister) is acting off, and while it really bothers him, it does bring him & Angelina closer. See, he's been fighting his feelings for Angelina, and she for him as well which was kind of working until they found themselves a team. The sparks are definitely flying between them, but it's also slow burning as Jude is suffering something that no one has a clue about so there's also that mystery surrounding this story. It kept me turning the pages like crazy, that's for sure as the author was only giving small breadcrumbs as I went along. On top of all this, there's also Hawke enemies circling bringing a ton of twists in hot, and I still have so many questions as that portion of the program isn't even close to resolved which has my dying inside for more. I'm not sure if it's just me, or what, but the ending seemed a bit abrupt after everything that transpired but I still loved the story a ton & cannot wait for more so I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! {4.5 STARS}

Gwyn McNamee I am truly truly obsessed with your books and especially this series. I absolutely count the days for the next book. I wish time travelers was available just so I can go read the rest of the series already 🤣 the waiting is excruciating, I need to know what happens. Who did that to her shop? Who and what is Allie hiding? (I thought it was Cassius but nope lol not him. I am really interested to see how that plays out I wasn't expecting them together but it makes sense) but lowkey I hope its pope they would be cute together. Who is Damon? I feel like he's important (maybe he's Falco). And man Roselli is he going to be like Luca or is he going to be like Luca's dad? I have these and so many more questions 🤣 I need to know the answer to. But as for this book I did love it just as I loved all the other ones ❤ ️.I still think it's awesome that your characters have real world disorders and issues. 😭😭even if what happened to Jude breaks my heart and was hard to think about because it happens in real life😭😭. I'm happy you paired him and Angie together. They are perfect for each other.

Ps I need a Family tree made or I'm gonna have to make one lol. I need a visual reminder of who was born to who.

This is the second book in the next generation of the Hawke Family Saga. I can not get enough of these books. The way this story is written gives you so much to digest. It has amazing characters and you get to see some characters from other stories. The character development is so well done that you feel yourself going through the emotions of all the characters. While reading this you feel like you are right there along with then and going through everything that they are going through. Adding in the forbidden thoughts of your best friends sister, gives the reader just enough intrigue to see how things end up. There are some controversial topics and traumas that the characters work through. This gives the readers opportunity to get gripped into the story. This book is another page turner that you won't be able to put down. You will want to know what is happening, who did what, etc. This book can be read as a stand alone but you won't want to. You will want to know the other characters and their stories. You will want to know all the dirty deets with everyone else. You won't be disappointed but starting this book and getting to know everyone and you won't be disappointed to read the whole series.

𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐰𝐤𝐞 is the second book in The Hawke Family Second Generation Series, featuring an angsty reverse age gap, best friend’s older sister romance for Angelina and Jude. Jude was adopted into the Hawke family as a child by Luca and Byron, but the trauma of his past still holds him hostage in many ways. The only people he truly feels comfortable around are his best friend Allie, and her older sister, Angelina, who he’s been in love with since he was 12. Between Jude’s secrets and the danger encroaching on the family, will they get their chance to be together?

This story was an amazing surprise for me! Jude’s story was heart-breaking, and his struggle to hang on was raw and gritty and beautifully handled. I’m not usually a fan of reverse age gap stories, but I loved the connection between him and Angelina, and the way it was gradually unveiled. I also enjoyed his friendship with Allie, and the dynamics of the family as a whole. The overarching suspense plot of this series is really heating up, and I have so many questions!! And Allie really is an enigma!! I need that girl’s story ASAP! She’s got some explaining to do! I’ll be diving into the next book right away!😂

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Reticent Hawke is the second book in the wonderful The Hawke Family Second Generation series. A forbidden romance best friend's older sister trope.
Gwyn is one of my favourites to say I was excited to see this book out is an understatement. I have read every book by Gwyn and have fallen in love with each and everyone but the Hawkes past and present have a special place in my heart. The second generation are here and are just as loveable.
This page turner is full of tension and angst, secrets and lies, fear and danger and so much more. Reticent Hawke is just as fantastic as the others. Gwyn has a gift with her story telling and she intricately weaves multi layered and complex threads that are well written and well thought out.
It is not hard to fall in love with the characters who are well developed and did I mention sexy. Told in different POV’s I love that we get a more comprehensive insight into these commanding characters.
I am not going to give anything away you need to grab a copy and find out what happens for yourself because it is that good.
Now I just must wait anxiously for the next instalment.

Adoptive Family
Best Friend's Older Sister
Reverse Age Gap
Another Hawke hit! Jude is the adopted Hawke, so he's never felt like one even though they all treat him as if he was born into the family. Having lived a traumatized life prior to becoming a Hawke, he struggles with human interaction and touch. On his first night as a kid he bonds with Ali who becomes a best friend and like a twin sister to him. Angie is her older sister and 12 years older than them. Fast forward 15 years and Angie becomes the only person who can get him to deal with his trauma response that has kept him secluded to his home for the past two years. You get to see why he is so guarded and reclusive even with his family. You learn what happened to him to make him that way. They both have avoided their connection because they're family, except now they can't deny what they feel for each other. Of course, the quiet recluse that is Jude has confidence when it comes to Angie. When he finally has his chance with her, he doesn't hold back. I enjoyed the character arc, and I can't wait for the next Hawke family book. Kennedy is going to be a spitfire.

I love this series and I love these characters. I have a strong feeling Reticent Hawke is going to be my favorite book in this set. Which is hard to say when this book tears at the heartstrings. What both Jude and Angelina have been through in life is insane. Part of it comes with the Hawke family, the other is outside their control.
Jude’s story was not what I was expecting. It put me through the ringer emotionally. So keep that in mind. It’s all over the place and could potentially be a trigger for someone. Despite all that, the author wrote his story beautifully. She also weaved Angelina into that web perfectly.
If you’re looking for sunshine and roses, this is not that type of romance. It’s dark but beautiful.
This is the second book in this series, however it can be read as a standalone or in succession. I’ll say this though, if this is your introduction to this author, once you’re done you will be hooked. Not only reading book 1 in this generation series, but reading the books in the previous generation series.
Me? I love this world and just hope it’s going to continue.

This book is book 2 in the series, but can definitely be read as a standalone, though I don’t think you will want to. Jude had a rough childhood until he was found and adopted by the Hawke family. He slowly, but surely, learns how to be a part of a family, but still keeps the family at arm’s length. Angelina is 12 years older than Jude, and the older sister of his best friend, Allie, another Hawke family member who upon meeting him for the first time, helps him through the panic and the rough adjustment of being in their family. Then, suddenly Jude locks himself in his second story loft, and quits showing up or even going outside at all. Nobody is sure what caused the change, until he explains that one of the people whom made his young life so hard had suddenly reappeared in a place where he didn’t expect him to be and it caused him to retreat to what he felt was safety. When Angelina and Jude are forced to spend time together one-on-one due to Allie becoming unpredictable, they finally let down their guard and allow their feelings to flow, without fear of protecting themselves, the sparks fly.

Ok let’s me clear I’m not crying. Ok maybe a little. Angelina and Jude’s story was so beautiful, emotional and heartbreaking.

Jude is the secretive one of the family. We learn a little bit about him in Isaac and Jacks book but I love how we got more of an understanding of his story. He’s this beautiful broken man who has been through so much and has such an emotional background and you can’t help but find yourself feeling so much for him. Jude has always struggled with being close to people other than his best friend and lifeline Allie and her older sister Angelina who he’s secretly been in love with for 15 years.

Angelina is the oldest of the Hawkes and has always taken on the role of protector of the younger ones. She runs The Daily Grind, the local coffee shop. When her younger sister Allie starts acting strange it forces Angelina and Jude together to find out what’s wrong.

I love how the book goes from past to present so we get an understanding of Jude’s early life and him and Angelina first meeting. You can feel the intense connection between them from the beginning. I loved this book so much and I can’t wait for Kennedy’s book next.

An exceptional emotional reverse age gap second-generation romance that will break your heart before slowly putting all the pieces back together, if I could climb into this story and take away Jude's pain I would in an instant, this young man deserves the world and the only woman he has ever loved even if she is the older sister of his best friend, but demons still plague Jude ones he has kept hidden from his adoptive family for two years, one's they thought had been irradiated years before but one's that he has to confront again if he is ever to move on, Angelina has fought her attraction to Jude as the oldest Hawke she has dedicated her time to her coffee shop with the occasion side glance to the window opposite where Jude lives, but now with Angelina's younger sister who is also Judes best friend being secretive the pair have to put their heads together to find out what is happening in her life forcing them to face the attraction they have both tried to ignore.

Reticent Hawke has to be one of the most gut-wrenching stories I have read this year.

Jude and Angelica...where to start? Forbidden love? Love from afar? 12 year age gap? I can understand why Jude stayed away but oh, my heart hurts for him being that lonely. These two have some issues to get through and they will. As the older one in the relationship, I'll say it can feel different because society paints a jaded picture but pooh. Women can have younger men. My husband is 10 years younger. I was rooting for Angelica once she realized what she had. I was rooting for Jude all the way. Coming into a mafia family wasn't easy. The Hawke's were different. They are a family and love each other. Don't hide it, talk to someone. Dealing with his agoraphobia didn't help. This book left me feeling every emotion. I think it's the best Hawke book ever (even though you'll write more). I couldn't put it down. This author writes and you feel her soul in the writing. The passion and emotion are in it. You feel like you are almost in the middle of the action. Best writing of the year. More than 5 stars if I were allowed to.

The Hawke family series of books has been and still is my favorite stories from Author Gwyn McNamee. Now that she has moved into the 2nd generation, there are a whole new cast of characters to love.

Reticent Hawke it the story of Jude and Angelina. He's the adopted son of Luca and Byron, and Angelina is the daughter of Storm and Ben. If you're new to the series you'll learn early on that Angelina lost her father when.she was just 5.

Both Jude and Angelina have suffered trauma, which has caused them both to have deep, emotional baggage to deal with. Their journey together is heartbreaking, but their healing together is beautiful.

Reticent Hawke is slightly less steamy than previous Hawke stories, but the emotion behind their story makes up for it. Of course, seeing all the Hawke children and the 1st generation Hawkes come together again to protect their own brings back all the feels. Loved it and so excited for Kennedy's story! I'm sure the fireworks will be exploding when all is revealed.
