Follow Me: First Story

Rate this book
Music has a way of bringing people together, but they never thought it might lead to everlasting love.

Funny, forced proximity, rockstar, instalove, second chance novella about what happens when a Rock Star and Fashion Influencer hide from their followers and find each other. In a supply closet. In Paris. But life on the other side of that closet isn’t as simple as foraging for potato chips and dancing until dawn.

Ian and Ingrid are both scrambling to step out of the shadow of the social media tower they’ve built before it crushes them. But can the public demand for their private lives tear apart what might have been?

What happens in the supply closet might not stay in the supply closet.

This is a 5 Families Vineyard Series and ChiTown Stories crossover. Worlds collide -- all in the name of love.

Ian Reilly previously appeared in Shock Mount/Crossfade.

Ingrid Schroeder previously appeared in Uncorked/Over A Barrel/Under The Bus.

This is the first book in the Carriage House Chronicles - what to read when you don't know what to read next. Steamy, fun, no cliffhangers and always a happily ever after.

I used to create "dreams" with my best friend growing up. We'd each pick a boy we liked, then we'd write down a meet-cute that always ended with a happily ever after.

Now I get to dream every day, although it's a little steamier these days. And I've discovered I can and will write anywhere I can. Keep tuned to Instagram to see all the times I fit in a sentence or two.

I'm a writer, married to a writer, mother of a creative dynamo of a nine-year-old boy and currently a little sleepy. I'm a klutz and goofball and love lipstick as much as my Chuck Taylors.

Good things in the world: pepperoni pizza, Flair pens*, wine, coffee, laughing with my friends until my stomach hurts, a musician at the top of their game, getting lost somewhere I've never been, matinee movies on a weekday, the Chicago Cubs, a fresh new notebook full of possibilities, bourbon on a cold night, Fantasy Football, witty men, walking through the local zoo in the rain and that moment when a character clicks in and begins to write their own adventure. I'm just the pen.

Follow me is the perfect little story you didn’t know you needed!

My Review ⤵️
It’s not news to anyone that I’m a fan of Kelly Kay and her stories, if she writes it I’m going to read it, no questions asked, it’s just a forgone conclusion. So when I found out about the Carriage Chronicles I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. The whole premise of these stories is what gets me excited, I love meeting new characters and spending time with old friends too.

In Follow Me, we get to spend time with Ian and Ingrid, a rock star and an influencer, both used to the spotlight and both ready to take a minute and sit in the dark. As with a lot of Kelly’s books this one has not quite six degrees of separation from some of her previous characters and I’m here for it.

This is a quick read, perfect for a lazy afternoon and a bottle of wine. There is witty banter, strong emotions and the perfect amount of heat. I’m not sure who hasn’t read any books by Kelly Kay, you need to, and this is a great place to start. But if you are like me and have to know all of the players backstories, then start with Shock Mount and then you aren’t going to want to stop!

I DNF'D this book at 38%. It made no sense to me and it just seemed to be random sentences that didn't really connect, When a book isn't working, I try to be more specific about why not but this one didn't connect and that's about all I can say.

Sorry I'm not the least bit helpful.

Fabulous, fun and pleasurable read.

Every Kelly Kay story I have read to date has been fabulous, and this is no exception. I really must read more of her stories as I love the interconnections between them, and want to get to know all the characters. Having said that, this was a completely gorgeous read as a standalone, full of fun, pleasure, heart and happiness. Highly recommended.

An easy to read novella which follows the love story of Ian and Ingrid. I adored how Ingrid follows her true calling and passion in finding a career she loves. Their connection is instant and as with all relationships they face a few obstacles. If you are after a quick afternoon read then this is perfect.

I absolutely devoured this book. It was easy to read, features a cast of amazing characters and is a truly engaging story.
Our main characters Ian and Ingrid, you can't help but like them.
They have the best meet cute, 13 hours stuck in a supply closet, after which they go their separate ways, but spend months thinking about the other before life throws them back into each other’s paths.
Theirs is not an easy road to happiness but they are so good together you'll want them to sort their shit out. Thoroughly enjoyable.

There are so many books about love at first sight, but this one is so well written that it makes your heart warm and your fingers cross.
He made mistakes, the biggest one being turning a blind eye to it just to refuse admitting he was wrong, which almost shatters him. It's so difficult for anyone to be judged and condemned by public opinion, but it's ten times worse to be a public figure on top of that…
She has her issues as well, but no spoilers are due, so I'll just say I love her world, her extended family is made up of extraordinary people and I want to know all their stories.

Great dialogue, interesting plot, music conveyed soundlessly and a lot of feelings beautifully flowing through well crafted words - this book pleased my soul.

A quick read full of sweet and sexy moments. There isn't a lot of conflict, but the little there was didn't last long. The great thing about novellas is that the story is short and the HEA happens with minimum conflict.

This is an open door romance so you will come across graphic sexual scenes but it's not a lot of full scenes.

I liked that Ingrid was determined to be her own woman and get away from the shadow of her family and brief Influencer status. As for Ian, he is flawed but willing to be better for Ingrid. This is an instalust/love story but the time that lapses in the story is several months from the initial meet cute, which makes the story more plausible.

The author gives a clear disclaimer that this novella gives spoilers for another series that centers around the side characters in this book. It doesn't take away from the experience, in fact, now I want to read the series related to this novella.

Overall, if you like a quick read with minimal conflict and a sweet HEA, then this is a great for you.

This is the first in a series of Novellas set in a Carriage House in Chicago.
The story begins in Paris, though, when Ingrid & Ian get locked in a storeroom in an Hotel.
They are very attracted to each other, but once they are rescued, don’t take the opportunity to exchange contact numbers.

Musician Ian is reeling from a tell-all book written by his ex-wife, and decides to go off grid in Vermont.

Meanwhile, Ingrid is staying in the carriage house owned by friends, whilst she pursues her dream of becoming a record producer. She manages to track Ian down, and persuades him to rejoin civilisation.

Feelings between them deepen, but Ingrid starts to have doubts about her chosen career path, and decides to go home to her family, without talking things over with Ian.

This is a well plotted story, with characters that are believable, and it was a pleasure to read how the couple’s relationship progressed to its conclusion. Five stars from me!

This was such a romantic love story! I really liked Ingrid (Little Bell) and Ian's characters so much. If I met them IRL, I would want them to immediately join my circle of close friends. There was a minor conflict for both of the MC's that was quickly resolved, but the main storyline was the instalust on their first meet cute that became so much more once they met again. I liked that they actually got to know each other after that emotionally charged first meeting and allowed their feelings to grow and evolve, as would happen to actual individuals. This was my introduction to Ms. Kay's writing, and I will definitely be checking out the other books in this series!

Ingrid is ready to say goodbye to Paris, Dior and her overprotective family. She’s saved enough to make a move to her new life and the thing she loves most. Ian is running from the nightmare book his ex wife wrote about her cheating. Seems she’s cheating with every crew member on his music tour and a few strangers. Ian and Ingrid meet under crazy circumstances but the chemistry is off the hook, and it’s hot. I love that fate takes a hand and the story is hot, sexy and romantic. I literally couldn’t put this book down. Love that Karma, Fate and luck bought these two together. Really loved this story, the ending was sumptuous. I’m giving this book five stars and highly recommend it.

Follow Me was originally included the A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE MEET CUTES anthology, where I'd previously read the story, forgot I'd read it until the first paragraph sparked a recollection, and then just had myself a fun re-read.

Combining characters from two of her series — which are not necessary to read beforehand; I haven't yet — Ingrid and Ian's story is a fun meeting of chance and unexpected forced-proximity, lost-connection, and second-chances. Steamy goodness, delightful banter, heart-felt emotions, humor, a little angsty tension, and a wonderful cast of characters that leave me wanting to dive into more stories.

Ian and Ingrid meet in very unusual circumstances but the connection is there from the start, and being shut in a supply closet for hours bonds them together even more.
This is a quick read but has lots of emotion, depth as they find each other again and navigate their feelings. This story gives you all you can want in a book without dragging it out too much. Great writing as always from this author.

Follow Me by Kelly Kay

This book is SO addicting! This is the best page-turner. I usually can put a book down and pick it back up whenever I get around to it- not with this book and this talented author. I kept making the time to read it. The story was fun, uplifting, sensual, and light. Easy to read, and took my mind off regular life for a bit. Definitely recommend.

Quick, steamy read. I don't always enjoy novellas because I want to get deeper into the characters but this was a great little diversion. The plot was a bit over the top - two celebs independently hiding from life accidentally get locked in a closet together for hours where things get steamy - but who cares, it was a good read. I have found a new happy place and it's a carriage house in Chicago - I love all the books by Kelly Kay, all these novellas, and all of these beautiful, messy, loving and lovable people! Shock Mount and Crossfade are two of my all time favorite books and I'm so happy that the story continues. ❤

The perfect little treat between reads. I love Ingrid! I mean, Ian is hot and who doesn’t love a musician, but the real star of this gem is Ingrid. She’s smart and driven and I love that she produces music. Highly recommend a stay at the carriage house!

Keep Paris will always have my heart out of Kelly Kay’s books but Follow Me was so good! I loved Ian and Ingrid’s love story. The fateful meeting in a closet to finding their way back to each other by pancakes and wine blogs was the cutest thing I’ve read so far this year. I could definitely see this one becoming a movie. For a book though, my only complaint was I felt it could have been longer! Each of the characters were well fleshed out but, but it felt like a little bit of Ingrid’s journey was missing. But, I love Kay’s stories that are the perfect balance of steamy scenes and romance.

All in all, if you want a cute music love story, you NEED to pick this up. Kay never disappoints with her writing or characters and this was no exception. I’m really excited to read the next Carriage House Stories (and maybe go back and read Crossfade just to get more Ian).

Such a fun story with great character development. I couldn't wait to see if and how their happily ever after developed and I loved the entire story and it's a fast easy read. Can't wait to meet up with all of them again hopefully in a future story. I like these people.

Cute, quick and hot. Rockstar romance, always a plus, with like a second chance with an IG influencer who doesn't want to be an influencer anymore. Found this randomly and glad I did. Read it this afternoon only to discover the second book came out today! All in on the Carriage House.

There’s music and there’s music.

Second time around, after I read the books with Meg’s story (Shock Mount and Crossfade) and got to meet and know Meg, Jake and PBDB Ian a bit better, this story is even much more enjoyable.

As ms Kay mentions in the beginning of the book, this is the first in a series of novellas that are low commitment, highly entertaining, no cliffhangers and happily ever afters. And this one definitely is. The unique way Ian and Ingrid met (funny!) and the problems and good times they had to find and keep each other. Very enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Book 1 in Kay's Carriage House Chronicles. This book is a short, well written read that I was instantly drawn to for a couple of reasons but first the author - I am a new super fan of Kay's and am always eager to read anything by her. So, our main characters here are Ian and Ingrid, a rock star and an influencer. These two have the best meet-cute and I love the sweet and steam in this read. A wonderful standalone that I found easy to follow and easy to fall in love with! I can't wait to see what's next!

Ingrid and Ian... stuck in a supply closet in Paris for hours. Now they're in the carriage house, but neither knows the other is there - she's upstairs, he's down. She offers advice on his songwriting, and brings him pancakes. I have not read any books in the 5 Families Vineyard Series, or Chi Town Books. That didn't detract from enjoying this book at all. I loved seeing Ingrid grow, as she's finding herself away from her family, and escaping her past as an influencer. Couldn't put it down. A quick, well-written read that's perfect for a cozy winter weekend. I legit LOLed several times, and it left me wanting pancakes. No, that's not a metaphor. IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW!

Follow Me is yet another great gem from the talented Kelly Kay. A chance for Ian Reilly to finally find his HEA, the rocker featured in her Lyrical duet never stood a chance against the powerhouse who is Ingrid Schroeder. Their meet-cute is all kinds of crazy, as both are stranded in a supply closet in the middle of an event in Paris. Kay plays it really well as they trickle out their fears, disappointments, and hopes while stuck together for some 15 hours. But the heat between them is also very apparent and provides both of them the respite they both desperately needed from the outside world. Not to mention the sharp wit that seems to be the requisite of Kay's heroines. Just when it's needed most.

I love the forever-expanding wine universe Kay continues to create. I hadn't given Ingrid much thought although the frequent use of her nickname, Little Bell, is one that everyone in her world uses with deep affection even when it bothers her just a bit. Her drive to stand on her own and not be thought of as anything but the talented music mixer/producer she was striving to be, was carefully written against that of Ian and his indecision as to what his own career might look like next.

Kay uses a clever coincidence to bring these two together again after their memorable tryst with the help of Meg and Jake and even the likes of Ingrid's father and the rest of the vineyard '5'. And no matter if Ingrid is Little Bell or Pancake Girl or the next big thing in music, it's Ian who in the end centers her like no one and nothing else. They have this connection that is undeniable and it was fun and sometimes even a bit frustrating to see the push and pull, especially on Ingrid's end, as she tries to figure out how to have it all.

This is a great quick read, the perfect respite between heavier reads, and for me, getting to be back in Kelly Kay's wildly entertaining winery world is always a treat. Ian is a wonderful addition to this wonderful crew and he and Ingrid are a match made in their crazy-good heaven.

4 big stars!
