Something About Lorelei

Rate this book
Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Fashion Magazine

I had the world at my fingertips. A successful career, loads of money, and beautiful women were always at my beckoning call. My problem? I lived under the shadow of my mother, who started the family business over thirty years ago. Not to mention her being married and divorced six times left a bad taste in my mouth regarding relationships.

Then I met Lorelei Flynn. She showed up at my office as my new personal assistant after spilling coffee all over my new designer suit in Starbucks. She was beautiful, and as hard as I tried, I couldn't keep my hands to myself. We grew close until I found out her secret, which changed everything.

Lorelei Flynn, Mr. Sutton's Personal Assistant

I was Jack Sutton's fifteenth personal assistant in over a year.

Seven years ago, my boyfriend and the love of my life gave me a gift before he was tragically killed in a car my daughter, Hope. Since that day, I haven't dated or had sex with anyone.

Then Jack Sutton came into my life. He was sexy as sin but a womanizer and my boss. We both crossed the line. We broke the rules, and I fell in love. Now my entire world was spinning out of control because there were two things Jack Sutton didn't relationships and children.

I feel like I've read a different book than everyone else, because I just don't see it. Frankly, this book pissed me off and I could easily write a rant review on it but I'm not going to go there this time. The hero is a MAJOR douche canoe. His mental dialogue had me wanting to punch him in the nuts. I can go for manwhores when they're charming and evolve throughout the story. He didn't. Flat out, he's just an asshole who never deserved this woman. She was just as bad for putting up with him.

Spoilers ahead

Lorelei is a single parent to 7 year old Hope after the death of her boyfriend at 18. As she's currently unemployed the news that Jack Sutton needs a PA is very welcome, thankfully she lands the job. Even though her new boss is devastatingly attractive, he's also a bit of a jerk. Until one chance encounter changes things between them.

Jack Sutton has been through 14 PA's recently and just hopes the latest one lasts longer than the rest. He's surprised to discover that the same woman he was attracted too earlier who'd spilled coffee on him is his new PA. Jack manages to resist her until he finally makes his move, however finding out Lorelei has a child is a deal breaker for him. With complications at his job Jack is determined to put Lorelei out of his mind.....until she gets sick and he ends up falling for her daughter too

**********
I'm clearly in the minority but that's not a bad place to be......This did NOT work for me.

1)Jack was an asshole and he didn't even have a reason to be!

2)He was a disgusting manwhore with no respect for women. He had Lorelei buy him condoms and we see him with 1 OW but he didn't have sex with her.... And I thought great news.....ummmmm nope ge sleeps with another woman shortly after. Even though he's attracted to his PA. Then he asks her to Paris and she says she can't go but when he gets back she sees pics of him with OW and she doesn't even ask anything and when he made his move...... She just gives in!!!!!!! Seriously where's your self respect??

3)When he finds out she has a kid he acts like a complete douchebag

4)He then goes out with OW

5) When the h sees him with OW she doesn't think what an asshole, nope she hates the OW immediately

There's more but I'm fed up, I hated this asshole and his eventual turn around with Hope probably would've made me rate this 2 stars.....if he didn't go on another date with OW after!!!! Thankfully he didn't sleep with that one but jeeze wtf???! Of course Lorelei hasn't had sex in SEVEN years since her ex died!!!!! Jack actually is shocked she made it 7 years because he thinks he couldn't even make it a week!!!! Disgusting pig!

1.5* for Hope and the epilogue

4 'Prince Charming' Stars!

Sandi Lynn is my go-to author when I want to read something cute and quick about love, family, an alpha male and a reluctant heroine. All her books are the same. Same pattern nothing major and life-changing happens and it is this very characteristic that pulls me to her books because sometimes I just want to read something that is fluff and even if there is a angst, it is so minimal, the love, fluff and comical moments over power it.

Something About Lorelei is exactly that. In this book we have Jack Sutton, CEO of Sutton Magazine. He is a player, downright rude and brash, doesn't understand the concept of personal boundaries, hates kids and thinks women as disposable and only meant to spend one night with him.

Lorelei Flynn, due to a tragedy at the age of 18, is a single mother to a 7 year old girl Hope, who I might say is downright polite and adorable. Lorelei raises Hope all by herself with the help of her mother and best friend Stella.

Hope. God! She is just so dang cute! She is one little meddler. She wants her mother to date and she comes up with the most amazing and comic dinner conversations!

"Why don't you date?"
"Why are you asking me that?"
"I don't know. Addison's mom started seeing someone and Addison really likes him. I just want you to know that I wouldn't mind if you started seeing someone."
"I haven't met anyone worth dating, I guess."
"I don't think you try."
"That's because you're all I need."
"Maybe you should try a dating site. That's where Addison's mom met her boyfriend."

A complete gem, isn't she? Lol.

This book has some really amazing comical moments that left me laughing so hard. For example, on the first day as Jack's PA, she is sent to the supermarket by Jack to buy condoms for her. Yeah, so read it. He sent her to buy condoms and well here it is, the deep deliberation of what he would have wanted:

"Okay, so does he want it thin, sensitive or maybe stronger? Textured or non textured? Was he a freak and into colored condoms? Desensitizing condoms? Lubed or non-lubed? Fuck if I knew. Damn him for making me do this. I grabbed the ultra-ribbed Ecstasy one and took the box up to the counter."

A little tragedy leaves Lorelei in a hospital and Jack is left to tend to Hope and that situation on itself was so hilarious! Here are a few snippets to let you know, how comical that was:

"Do you know how to read?
"I'm seven. Of course I can read." She shook her head as she looked at me. I couldn't help but smile, because at that moment, she reminded me so much of Lorelei. She set down her her menu and looked at me me. "I can't read this menu. The words are too big."

OR

" We're going to be late."
"No we aren't."
"Yes, we are."
"Hope, we won't be late." We were late.

OR
"You are one special little girl. How would you like to go ti Disney World?"
"Are you being serious Jack? Because it's not nice to play with a girl's emotions"

I just loved Jack and Hope together!

Sandi writes about characters that are real with real problems. Their problems are what anyone faces on a normal day. There is nothing over the top. There is enough scope as well for the characters to grow.

You will laugh and you will want to kick Jack's ass (Oooo it rhymes!) and possibly claw his pretty face but you will also like him. You will love Lorelei, her strength, her tenacity, her need to fight and be independent is something that will attract you. And of course. You will most definitely, without a doubt LOVE LOVE LOVE Hope!

Eh this one just didn't do it for me. I saw a lot of people saying the hero was the issue since he was such a jerk but that wasn't my problem with this book. It just felt so disconnected and the storyline didn't flow well in my opinion. From Lorelei thinking Jack was nothing more than a womanizing asshole to then sleeping with him and keeping up the affair felt like a big jump to me. There wasn't a lot of story between those moments where I could see any connection between them that made it make sense. And somehow for a book Amazon says is over 300 pages it felt too rushed. The whole part where Jack was taking care of her kid seemed to take longer than their actual relationship.

I absolutely loved Something About Lorelei by Sandi Lynn. You will fall in love with Lorelei and Hope and as much as you will hate Jack at first, you will love him too. I was not able to put this book down and devoured it as soon as I got it.
Lorelei is a single mom who due to tragedy is raising her 7 year old daughter Hope by herself with the help of her best friend Stella and her parents. She has been without a job for 2 months and was thrilled to get a job at Sutton Magazine. She did not let the fact that the CEO, Jack Sutton, had a reputation for being mean and running off all of his PA’s. Jack’s attitude is almost comical and you will be rolling at how Lorelei puts him in his place. Jack lets it be known that he doesn’t like children and he thinks women are for his pleasure. He will toss them out without a second thought. That was until he met Lorelei. She made him have more than second thoughts. Lorelei knows that Jack is some kind of trouble, but even knowing all this about Jack, he was sexy as sin and made her feel things and want to do things that she hasn’t done in over 7 years.
I loved watching the characters transform and become the fantastic leading characters that Sandi Lynn is known for. You will want to scream and claw Jack’s eyes out and then you will cry and swoon. I loved everything about this book!

I was left sighing and with a big ol’ smile on my face when I was done reading this emotionally beautiful story.

Lorelei was left alone to raise her daughter, not because she wanted to be, but because of time and unforeseen occurrences. Despite that, she was resilient and had a positive attitude. Now, it was not about her but about her beautiful gift—her daughter, Hope. When Lorelei took on the job to be Jack Sutton's PA, she didn't realize what she was getting into or with who until it was too late. One thing she was sure of, though, was that Jack was a force to be reckoned with.

Jack's instant attraction to Lorelei didn't sit well with him. In his puny mind he thought if he had her under him one time it would fill his desire for her but, like a bag of chips where you can't just have one and be satisfied, Jack Sutton knew he couldn't have Lorelei one time only!

Jack's hot and cold attitude had me yelling at my tablet for Lorelei to move on and not get involved but it was to no avail. There was enough drama to add to the story but what I loved most was the emotional pull Jack and Lorelei had for each other. One thing Jack hates is secrets, and when he finds out Lorelei has been keeping some from him…well, that changes everything.

There are hurt feelings, misunderstanding as well as lots of Hot Sexy Time with a Hot Boss that had me squirming and fanning myself! Loved how this story flowed but hated that it had to end! ~ Kara, 4.5 stars

The story of Jack and Lorelie is beautiful and compelling. The writing is engaging and the characters seem quite authentic. I just loved it! It has everything I want in a romance. It was a delightful fictional entertainment from one author whose books I truly enjoy reading.

Sandi Lynn is my go-to author when I'm in need of a cute and quick read with an alpha male and a reluctant heroine. Something About Lorelei is no different.
The recipe is always the same, no surprises or twists and turns. We have an alpha-male, who's most often also a douchebag and a manwhore with a phobia of kids and commitment. The heroine is always fighting her attraction towards said douche, but things happen and the two cannot fight the attraction anymore. Oh the sexual tension! Yes, I'm a sucker for this trope. Oh and the sex was decent..
Recommend it for a rainy day when you need to kill a couple of hours!

I am a huge fan of Sandi Lynn, the Forever series is one of my all time favorites but this book was way too predictable. I experienced severe déjà vu while reading this, it just felt like so many other books that I've read. Jack Sutton is 32, handsome & the CEO of Sutton Fashion Magazine. His mother started the magazine thirty years ago & has been divorced six times. Lorelei Flynn is 25 years old, she lives in Harlem & has a 7 year old daughter named Hope. When she was 18 the love of her life, Brett was killed by a drunk driver on his way to her house, he didn't even know he was gonna be a Father. Jack hires Lorelei as his personal assistant, he's gone through 14 of them because he is a perfectionist. On her first day of work she goes to Starbucks & accidentally spills her coffee on Jack's Armani suit, they yell at one another not knowing who each other is.

I'm not sure how many stars I should give to this book... I absolutely ADORED the first half of it, the characters felt so real, the plot was superb, drama, love, hate, hot alpha male, loveable strong female, you name it! But the second half was too sugary, almost unbelievable for me. I expected the ending, but it was too cute, too wrapped up, too perfect and hurried.
But I enjoyed the story so much, I will ignore this a little bit :)

1.5 out of 5 ⋆

This book was so poorly written, over the top and cheesy... It got me rolling my eyes every two pages. Didn't like it, at all. It wasn't even entertaning, it had no plot, no logic, the characters made no sence and their behavior wasn't coherent. I'm mad at my self for putting me through this misery.

A light, sweet and cute reading! An office romance with some steamy scenes, laugh and cry moments with a HEA.

¿Is possible that you can hate and love a character at the same time? That happened to my with Jack. He is a total jerk at the beginning. Is a difficult boss, arrogant, rude. As proof of his temperament, he needed to hire a few PA in the past.

Lorelei is a single mom, who had been laid off and unemployed. Until her best friend called her for a job as PA in Sutton Magazine. She is smart, strong, sweet and a dedicated mom. Her daughter, Hope is adorable and very smart. And gave a special spark to this story.

The chemistry between them is almost instantaneous, but they don't unleashed immediately. The push and pull was great. The evolution in Jack was perfect. He went from an idiot to a Prince Charming. Giving the support to Hope and Lorelei when they really needed.

I loved the fact that Lorelei stood up and the way that Jack cared for Hope.
