The unwelcome invader is the French winemaker hero who has leased (with the option to buy) the heroine’s vineyard in Tasmania. The story opens with the heroine returning from a six month study in France when she discovers her father has sold her out and that she is now a guest in her own home.

Heroine is rightly outraged, but then spoils it by being outraged about everything. Yes, this is one of *those* heroines – short-tempered, juvenile and quick to jump to conclusions.

Hero is a perfect match for her since he is cagey about his feelings and plans all under the guise of “sophisticated” cynicism.

There is an OW (of course!) who jets in from France to claim her man in front of the heroine (and do a spot of accounting). Once she spreads her poison, she jets back to France so that the H/h can have a travelogue of Tasmania after a successful harvest.

The hero eventually coaxes the virgin heroine into bed, but warns her off of thoughts of marriage. Heroine pretends she doesn’t care and accepts his invitation to meet his family in France.

In France the hero shocks his parents by announcing they are sleeping together. Heroine is mortified, but manages to enjoy the travelogue of Bordeaux. The H/h fight and heroine moves out of the tower room she shared with hero.

OW shows up and convinces the heroine that she is now sleeping with the hero in the tower room and that heroine should leave immediately.

Heroine believes her and manages to cause one more misunderstanding at the train station. She tells hero that she only slept with him to get her vineyard back.

Hero believes her, but delivers the deed to the vineyard in person a month later. (The carbon footprint of these characters is enormous)

H/h finally confess their feelings for an HEA where they will live in France and fill the chateau with children.

This was disappointing because the H/h both lied and carried on the misunderstandings for far too long. No one got a comeuppance – not dear old dad who took the heroine’s money and skipped town nor the OW.

His explanation at the end was supposed to make everything good. For me it didn't. Most of the book was ok.
