With the help of a teenage runaway, a celebrity technologist, and a motley assortment of fellow trackers with little respect for authority, Gunn and Salvo begin to fight back.
But faced with an ancient and seemingly invincible enemy, that might not be enough.
As the walls close in, survival may lie in the one place that has been forgotten for generations.
A place called Earth.

This is the exciting series that introduces Gunn and Salvo and the riot that is their lives. It was a blast to read as they seem to find trouble so so easily. But half the fun was watching them survive it all. Basically, Gunn and Salvo, 2 normal bounty hunters, end up caught up in crazy adventures and a mystery or two that sends them running for their lives and trying to figure out what is going on. I was hooked from the beginning and entertained the whole series. Just a good story that drew me in.
At the start of the series, I found that the stories were slow to start The situations are repetitive, the plot is sometimes confusing and the characters are so far-fetched that it falls out of science fiction. A human/AI/teen, a 3 armed and 3 legged partner, an attacking apple and mirror, a chime mob, etc. Then as the series progressed, I found that When I read the books, the worst for me was having to pause my reading and going back to try to remember what this or that character's role is in this book, then going forward to where I was to continue reading, only to find myself in the same situation further along in my reading and having to repeat the move again. I had to skip many pages and almost put the series down.
This is a recurrence that I found reading the first half of this series.
The second part of the series had me notice a change in the writing style or the plot rendering and I posted that The author, in a masterful way, succeeds in taking the reader, virtually, to where the action takes place and cheering for either the good guys or the bad guys. I personally, always cheer for the good guys. The plot is very well written and is not congested with so many characters so that the reader has to go back and forth to follow the story. In addition, the many twists and turns throughout the story keep the reader on his or her toes, and the revelation, at the end, leads the reader to look forward to the next book to see Gunn's reaction when he discovers this mind-blowing personal revelation.
Book 6 followed suit with the posted remark There may not be as much action in this book as the previous one as the author uses his gift to take the readers on site where meetings are held and strategies discussed. The common goal being to "nul" Black and her band of cutthroats. This is all done among grief, major revelations and an array of twists and turns.
With the slow start and lack of interest in the 4 first books by this reader, I would have rated the series 3.5 to 4 stars. Since 3.5 does not exist, 4 stars rating is given.
Eight books...and one incredible story of loyalty and perserverence. The three main characters all willing to sacrifice themselves for each other. And all of this sentiment fed to the reader with a healty dose of humor to lighten the mood. This tale was quite the page-turner. I found that there were times that I just couldn't read fast enough to find out happened, and I also liked the way the author wove the mystery of how to solve the problem through the story...it kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure it out. I think that was the best part of this series...I didn't figure out the solution until I was reading it...great read! I would recommend these books to a friend, for sure!
I really liked this series. The characters were all very real and alive, even the mods. I love space drama, and this series had drama to the utmost. Space pirates, scientists, dirt planets, spaceships galore, and lots of things that fight and blow up. I would recommend this series to any space junky and even to younger kids who love the thought of living out beyond our small corner of space. No sex or cursing (at least in English). The books flow really well into each other, and the series was long, but not so long or complex that it takes over your life
The hero bumbles and stumbles his way through problems, life and galaxies, always in the wrong place at the wrong time with not enough knowledge or skills to overcome adversaries. He pisses off crew, friends enemies, and aliens alike. Along the way he (painfully) collects loyal friends and important knowledge. Very satisfying ending! No sex, a bit of swearing and made-up swear words. Lots of action and page-turning developments, cliff-hangers make the books impossible to put down.
I wasn't too sure to expect when starting this book but I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised. A n unusual take on life and a set of good characters made this well worth the effort. The ending could have been better but I was willing to let that go as the whole story made up for that. Joshua wrote about believable characters and although a longish story, held the plot together well. What we meet in space may not be what we thought it might be, but some things you would never want to meet!
Joshua James is a incredibly Gifted Author. Attention to his wonderfully crafted cast he developed into a story line that is tense, filled with flawed characters, like us folks here on the real Earth. Creek Gunnison Uma Salvo and a crew taking jobs like Bounty Hunters. Trying to keep their heads above water ship repaired and stocked with provisions. But the reward for a runaway teenager was to easy and paid way to much! But they hadn't had a good score in way to long. Absolutely wonderful writing!
Gunn and Salvo: The series is a highly entertaining set of eight books. The story flows seamlessly from beginning to end without any incongruity or lagging. The characters are well developed and they are interesting enough to warrant emotional attachment. The series is well worth the read. If you enjoy science fiction, I think you'll find this Saga a great read.
Wow. Crazy. Like bad things can happen to important people can actually happen. Not everything ends up roses. Real characters and emotions. Great imagination. Good story line and each book got better. I am sad the series is over. It was awesome. Cheers.
LAST STAND is an eight volume series that takes the reader from silliness to adventure to horror to exciting ideas and fantastic places. The human as well as alien main characters are unique and somehow believable. Each volume is enough different from the others to be entertaining while appealing to readers with different tastes. The final book is definitely worth waiting for!
A wonderful journey through space with a worthy bunch of heroes, aliens, and villains
This was a long series of books with one storyline that drags you along for the for the ride. You can put it down for a bit between books, but you will want to pick it back up and tag along. It has enough twists and turns to keep any sci-fi fan hooked.
An intriguing collection of stories. Glad to have all 8 books in one place to binge read. A galaxy in danger, who will be able to save it. One girl who’s different perhaps. Plenty of action, surprises , danger and more. Well written with strong characters as always.
I truly enjoyed this series, great characters and believable situations of course it always helps when a story like this wraps up with a majority of the main characters live to tell their story.
I have read quite a few of your book and I must say this is my favorite. I would have enjoyed them if it was 16 instead of 8. If you like Indiana Jones and Star Wars you can’t go wrong reading these books. Read by E’jaye Moore
I have read thousands and thousands of books yet this Gunn & Salvo Series reflects the indomitable spirit of the human race, if we can only find our morality and humanity again! Excellent!!!
These books were a sci-fi fantasy that was very interesting. Colorful characters and evil villains. Light verses dark all wrapped up in page turning stories. Read the books you’ll enjoy them. Big D
I was pleasantly surprised by how the book turned out. Of all characters I loved Salve most. She was more believable and more real. I just wanted to kill Gray myself and do away with him because he was so evil.
Interesting series. Lots of very diverse characters and plenty of emotional depth. It starts off a little slow, but picks up pace after a few chapters in. Definitely recommend to any sci-fi fan.
