Once upon a time, I fell for a dashing London restaurateur named Xavier.
He left me with a broken heart… and a positive pregnancy test.
Now, he’s back in my life and determined to stay.
He asks me just one question: will I move to London with him?
But as I enter Xavier’s world, our differences couldn’t be starker.
He’s tall, dashing, and practically royal.
I’m short, bookish, and the definition of common.
First comes love, then comes marriage.
Yet all I’ve got are half-truths and masked secrets.
If Xavier and I catch fire, the only thing left in the embers may be our deceptions.
A note from the author:
THEN COME LIES is the highly anticipated follow-up to the bestselling grumpy-sunshine, secret baby romance, First Comes Love. While it can be read as a standalone, you will enjoy it more if you read Book 1 in the series first. Enjoy!

When not writing, she is hanging out with her family, playing soccer with the rest of the thirty-plus crowd in Seattle, or going on dates with her husband. In her spare time, she likes to go running or practice the piano, but never seems to do either one of these things as much as she should.
Then Come Lies follows the story of Frankie and Xavier from First Comes Love as they move into the next chapter of their lives as a family of three by tackling the most evident obstacle of their relationship: distance. Frankie and their daughter, Sofia, take up Xavier's request to spend the summer with him in London, where they will inevitably face more significant challenges that test the strength of their relationship and the potential to make it as a family unit.
My primary gripe about this story was the fact that there was nothing redeeming about Xavier and his relationship with Frankie that made me want to root for them and their family, even in spite of all the challenges they faced. Granted, it's been a while since I read the first book of the series, so perhaps the first novel was supposed to be what convinced me of their love for each other and fueled my faith in them–at least enough to get me through the story and then having me hanging on for the next installment. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
In this story, there was seldom a moment where I found Xavier's actions/efforts toward Frankie to be convincing of someone in love. I kept looking at the % of the novel finished info on my Kindle to see if it was finally the moment Xavier became redeeming. Even during Frankie's internal monologue, she would remark how certain actions he made were done without thought or consideration of their daughter; many others could be classified as him ensuring that he keeps her occupied so he could deal with the rest of his life and work without ever involving her or considering her. Moreover, the way he speaks to her and about her leaves nothing to be desired.
"'You can't keep doing this." "Doing what? Worshipping my girlfriend? Come on, Ces, it's the only good thing going for us right now." "What, sex? That's all? Xavier, I'm not a consolation prize. Or a security blanket." He recoiled. "I never said you were! But it's better than these sad-sack, everything's wrong conversations, don't you think?'"
Also "I don't have time for stupid gossip and your brother's wedding and all your fucking insecurities! I just don't!"
Can't forget how the mother of his child gets blasted in the press, and even his four-year-old daughter's paternity is a frequently written-about topic, yet he just shrugs it off and tells Frankie to not worry about it, despite her raising her concerns every.single.time.
On the heroine's end, I couldn't help but just feel frustrated at her refusal to take a stand for herself. No matter how many times he hurt her, spoke down to her, and made her feel used, she STILL kept going back. Even more, when she finally decides to walk away, it isn't because she's had enough, is thinking about what kind of example she's setting for her daughter, nor taking a stand for herself, but rather because she sees .
Nowhere in this story did I ever pick up on "grumpy-sunshine," but rather it should be aptly titled the narcissist asshole and the doormat.
I really wished we saw more genuine, loving, moments between Frankie and Xavier, as well as the three of them before being put through the emotional ringer (the rest of the story), so we could at least have something to root for, but alas there was none.
Unsure if I will continue this series, but maybe I will as I always love a good grovel. Whether or not Xavier is capable of it is the question.
In the second book of the Silver Spoon series Nicole French’s normal fashion she takes you on quite the ride with this book. From the beginning you know the hiccups are going to come with Francesca and Sophia visiting Xavier for the summer in London. As things unravel everything is night and day from the time Xavier spent in the states when he got to know Sophia and reunited with Francesca. But that was to be expected.
Things just seem to work against them as they try to work towards the same goal. But Xavier’s obligations leave Francesca and Sophia alone more than they’d like. The press is just awful and not something Francesca was prepared to handle. And things just seem to work against them. And in the end as I expect when I read a book in a series by Nicole French she leaves us with an emotional cliffhanger. This book will make you feel everything from the joy when the three of them are together as a little unit giving Xavier what he’s been missing to tears and wanting to know how everything is going to get fixed for them.
Where do I begin with my review after reading this heart wrenching story? Do I say I’m a sobbing mess? Do I say my heart hurts? Do I say I need more of Francesca & Xavier? Yes to all the above! After reading First Comes Love, I just knew this would be as epic as the first book. Francesca and Xavier’s burgeoning relationship continues in this story, and the intensity of emotions coming off the pages was unreal. These two love each other and they want to make it as a family with little Sofia. Xavier is rich and more than just a famous Chef, and Francesca is a dedicated school teacher and Mother, barely making ends meet. But neither of them cares that they come from vastly different backgrounds. They feel they can overcome anything. But so many outside forces are working against them and threaten to break them apart. Can they ignore all of that and make a go of being together? Can they truly become a family? This book held me so captive I couldn’t put it down until every last word, sentence and paragraph was devoured. I need more of Xavier, Francesca and Sofia and can’t want for the final book! Do yourself a favor and read First Comes Love first so you can understand the characters and get invested in them like I am. You will not be disappointed!
WOW just WOW!!! I loved the first book, but this book - this author has a way of drawing us in, and bam bring on the troublemaker, and messes everything up.
For this big strong fellow we met in book 1, in this book, I was feeling bad for Xavier, but was thinking if he'd been forthcoming from the start (with his real lot in life) things could have gone better, if he'd actually took a stand and stood up for those he 'loved'; and if Frankie was more confident, that too could have helped if this relationship. But, then we wouldn't have had this wonderful and amazing story - full of our fabulous main characters, and the rest of the 'cast' that brings heartache, heartbreak and sadness to our tale.
I love the heroine of this book. She is amazing though she puts up with to much doo doo from our hero. Grrr. I use the word hero loosely. He is a whiny turd throughout this book. He acts like a selfish child. I am not impressed with his parenting abilities and he is an even worse boyfriend.
The storyline is interesting with all kinds of twists and turns. This book definitely doesn’t feel like a standalone. I actually do want to read the next book but our hero better grovel and I don’t want to hear a bunch of excuses.
I so enjoyed the second part of Xavier and Francesca’s story and to get more insight on him. There’s so much that she wasn’t prepared for but for her daughter she would put herself in any situation, even one that is landing her extremely out of her element
4.25 stars- THEN COME LIES is the second instalment in Nicole French’s contemporary, adult THE SILVER SPOON erotic, romance trilogy focusing on thirty-two year old chef/restaurateur Xavier Sato Parker, and twenty-seven year old, single mother, primary school teacher Francesca Zola. THE SILVER SPOON trilogy is a spin off from the author’s ROSE GOLD trilogy. Francesca is Matthew Zola’s sister. THEN COME LIES should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up several weeks after the events of book one FIRST COMES LOVE
NOTE: Some of the events of THEN COME LIES cross over with, and run parallel to some of the events of the ROSE GOLD Trilogy. If you have not read book one FIRST COMES LOVE, there may be spoilers in my review.
SOME BACKGROUND: Approximately five years earlier, Francesca Zola spent one wonderful month with Xavier Sato but early one morning, Xavier ghosted our heroine without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein Francesca Zola is a primary school teacher and single mother, having given birth to Xavier’s daughter four years earlier. Francesca tried to find Xavier without any luck, and five years had passed without contact or knowledge. A holiday party would bring Francesca face to face with her past, a past that knew nothing about the daughter she was raising on her own.
Told from dual first person perspectives -Francesca present day, Xavier from the past- THEN COME LIES follows Francesca and her daughter Sofie’s journey to England where they will spend the summer with Xavier Sato Parker. Xavier Parker was ordered to return to his ancestral home in England in the wake of the imminent death of his beloved uncle. Xavier is the heir to royal title, a fortune and a position in high society but all is not well on his ascent to the throne. Desperate for the company of Francesca, and the daughter he barely knows, Xavier will bring American born Francesca into a world of which she was completely unprepared. From the volatile gossip, rumors and paparazzi, to the family infighting for power and control,Francesca would quickly discover she was no longer in control of her life, or the fall-out that would precipitate her arrival in England. As Francesca struggled to find a place within the royal halls, everyone else was working behind the scenes to ensure she would never succeed.
The relationship between Francesca and Xavier is turbulent yet passionate, unrestrained and barely controlled. Francesca will witness a different side to the man with whom she fell in love years before, a man she no longer recognizes in the face of dysfunctional family behavior, his need for control, and a campaign for the ultimate prize. Francesca will quickly become a punching bag for gossip fodder by the social elite and wanna-be royals but the man that she loves is blinded by his position to see the destruction of the woman he claims to love. The $ex scenes are aggressive, intense and not without some questionable behavior.
We are reintroduced to Xavier’s friend and COO Jagger Harrington; and art teacher Adam Klein, a man with secrets of his own, as well as the return of Francesca’s brother Matthew and sister Kate; Xavier’s mother’s best friend Elsie Crew, his step-brother Frederick, step mother Georgina, and Imogene, Xavier’s childhood friend and threat to his relationship with our story line heroine.
THEN COME LIES reads akin to the Harry and Meghan (Duke and Duchess of Sussex) battle with the Royal Family, and the fall-out of the destructive nature of discrimination, cultural snobbery, judgement and sanctimonious behavior of the social climbing royal and powerful elite. From the disrespectful actions of Xavier’s family and the people of the country he now calls home, there is no one and no where for Francesca to turn. The premise is heart breaking and emotional; the romance suffers in the face of contempt and obliviousness; the characters are struggling, broken and barely surviving. THEN COME LIES ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
Then Comes Liesis the second book in Nicole French’sSilver Spoonseries and continues with Francesca and Xavier’s story by picking up from whereFirst Comes Loveends.
Where to even begin when it comes to not only stating my feelings and emotions in regards to Francesca and Xavier, but thoughts into their story overall? Once again Nicole had the narrative bursting at the seams from what she presented in book two, making it no surprise so much needed to be said. Particularly when you took into account that the book had been split into four parts, which sometimes led you back in the past from the flashback chapters that were sprinkled throughout.
This narrative was unreal with all that Nicole delivered, whether it be from the super emotionally charged perspectives of Francesca and Xavier, that made for emotions to erupt and come gushing right off nearly each and every page like a tidal wave. Which partly came from the exploration into their emotions, due to the situations and events they faced and encountered. But that was a given from taking into account the ups and downs Francesca and Xavier seemed to be going through, though mainly within their relationship. Ultimately resulting in a lot of intense highs and lows, overbrimming with tension, to then pave way for the major angsty-ness that came about from it.
Was it any wonder the story truly was the definition of an intense, chaotic, turbulent, whirlwind rollercoaster ride. Other than the exploration in Francesca and Xavier’s tempestuous relationship that escalated in many different ways and directions of course. There was the case of the subplots which brought about the secondary characters, whose connections came from either Francesca and/or Xavier with either being family and/or friends of theirs. This allowed us to get more out of the story, seeing the parts they played and how it linked back to the main plot. As well as helping in filling missing pieces, considering the mysteries at play from secrets being kept that were alluded to time and time again.
This book truly had me choked up many times, and feeling so much on the inside with my stomach being in knots, even more so after the halfway mark. Which is clearly when it started to pick up even more. Although just to be clear the emotions always came to be within Francesca'sPOV chapters, considering all that she endured and put herself through for Xavier. Which is why he had me disliking him a lot at times. His character truly frustrated with screaming internally, given his actions and behaviour towards Francesca.
Even though overall the book ended up being an enjoyable read, it wasn’t without its hiccups for me. In the beginning the story had me finding it a little hard to actually connect and get back into it. Right to the point of feeling my attention beginning to wane here and there, making me consider whether to stop and come back to it later. However, don’t know how or when exactly, but the narrative surprised me unexpectedly with the complete 180 it did for me. Ultimately resulting in Nicole reeling me right back in, so much so that in the end she had me devouring the rest of each and every single page right to the very end.
For some reasonThen Comes Lieshad me thinking this was the final book, only to stumble upon the cliffhanger - which definitely had me screaming internally - and find out nope, Nicole French isn’t done with Francesca and Xavier’s story. Seeing as there is still one more bookLast Comes Fateyet to come. And yes, it now has me dying in anticipation with wanting to read it ASAP, to see just how Francesca and Xavier’s story will come to a close.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The second installment in Nicole French's Silver Spoon trilogy is finally here. To get a greater understanding of this story, the characters, and their background, I highly recommend reading First Comes Love beforehand. THEM COME LIES is the continuing story of Francesca "Ces" Zola and Xavier "Xavi" Sato Parker. Once again it was an emotional, heart wrenching read that I could not put down.
THEN COME LIES has Ces and her daughter Sophie spending Summer in England after Xavi was ordered to return home to deal with some family business. The love that exists between Xavi and Ces is strong, as is their desire to become a family with Sofie, but something is always obstructing their path. Xavi is constantly working, allowing him little time with Ces and Sophie. His return to Kendal means taking on the responsibilities of a Duke, A duty he never wanted, leaving Ces and Sophie often on their own. The British press is horrid toward Ces, leaving her to doubt her relationship with Xavi. Will they be able to find the strength in their love to find a way to be together?
Francesca's life changed forever when Xavi re-entered it, and now it was changing again. In England she is witnessing a side to Xavi she never thought possible, he became distant. When it came to his family, well let's just say they are not exactly welcoming. Ces needed to make a decision, either way her heart was going to be broken. She needed to protect herself and Sophie.
THEN COME LIES ends on a cliffhanger, one that tore at my heart and left me teary eyed. I did not see that coming at all. I cannot wait for the final book, LAST COMES FATE, it cannot come soon enough.
While reading this book I was so angry for Frankie and at Xavier! Most of the book, he’s so clueless on what his actions mean for Frankie and his constant neglect, in spite of the love he says he feels for Frankie and Sofia, and it made me mad.
Xavier has a lot of stressors on his shoulders. His uncle had several strokes that incapacitated him to run the Duchy estates, so Xavier had to run take over. After a month of solitary touristy rides around London, Frankie was ready for a change, and she insisted on going with him. Otherwise, he would have left her alone in London. And this is where the story got very dicey!
A new couple, adjusting to a new relation in a new place, with the press of the paparazzi and public opinion, then to travel to a new place with a bunch of snooty snobs! It was sheer hell for poor Frankie, not so for Sofia who got a wonderful nanny that took her around to see the farm animals.
It was a mess of miscommunications, sheer torture for a woman with insecurities dealing with a culture radically different to her Brooklyn neighborhood, and the machinations of the women around Xavier who want her gone gone gone.
This was a riveting read, and instead of me wanting Frankie to deal and conquer against all odds, all I wanted was for her to get out of that antiquated and stuffy environment. Escape to her place where she can be happily herself and breath free.
The book ends with a cliffhanger and for some reason, I’m sure that the final installment is going to present huge changes for Xavier and Frankie, and hopefully, that Xavier will open his eyes and his heart to what is truly important. Great middle book in a trilogy, it was full of action and emotions!
This is book two in the Silver Spoon Trilogy. Some say you can read this installment without reading the first book, First Comes Love, but I disagree. You get so much more context of Xavier and Francesca’s relationship and how it begins and grows and what comes between them before the second book begins. It truly sets the tone and is not to be missed.
In this book, Francesca agrees for her and Sophia to spend the summer with Xavier in England. Well, best-laid plans and all…. Reality strikes right off the bat. Francesca is thrown into the deep end of Xavier’s world, and it only gets more complicated as the book progresses. Xavier has familial obligations that she doesn’t understand, and Xavier finds in Francesca and Sophia the love and safety he had with his mom, but he has no idea how to balance it all and with opposition everywhere, this couple is tested at every corner. Both want the same thing but are not sure how to get there. In the end, fate has its own idea, and I cannot wait to see how this couple deals with it all.
This is my first book by this author, and I am not disappointed. Her writing is solid and built with so much emotion you get lost in her words. The story evolves so organically, and the side characters are introduced in such a way that you are immediately invested before I knew it the book was over, and I was anxious for the next!
If you’ve never read this author do yourself a favor and pick this trilogy up. I’m off to troll the rest of her books!!!
French has outdone herself in Then Come Lies, the second book in the Silver Spoon Series. This page-turning rollercoaster had me hooked from beginning to end. A must-read!
After Xavier Parker changed her life five years ago, Francesca Zola is finally reconnecting with her daughter’s dad. The dashing British restaurateur is determined to be a father to Sofia, while also trying to win Francesca’s heart. Little did she realized that by accepting to spend the summer in London with him, that her life was about to change forever. Not only is Xavier about to become the future Duke of Kendal, but seeing him in a new setting is changing him and Francesca begins to question whether or not he is ready to accept them in his new life.
I absolutely loved reading .Then Come Lies, the chemistry between the characters is off the charts from the very beginning. Emotions are high as Francesca and Xavier explore the possibility of a future together. They leave New York for Kendal, England and it becomes the center of a rollercoaster of events. Xavier has always felt like her’s never belonged anywhere, his passion for cooking is what ultimately takes him away from his true role. Now he is back home, ready to claim his role as the Duke of Kendal, but not without obstacles coming his way. Meanwhile, Francesca must learn to navigate her new life, but seeing a new side to Xavier is what she fears. Then a turn of events threatens to end what they’ve worked so hard to build. I’m excited to read the next book in the series, the ending left me speechless. I would highly recommend checking out this book as well as any other book by the author, you won’t be disappointed! :)
***I received an advanced copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.***
This Nicole French's story of Francesca Zola and Xavier Sato Parker had me going in circles with the emotions that these two seemed to bring out with their story. This story of: Then Comes Lies was really crazy good. I love Xavier Parker despite of all that he has put Frankie through. I somehow, can forgive him some because the only person who he knew truly loved him was his mother and so he does not know how to love Francesca. I think that he feels that loving her could cause her death too, because all the people he cared for died. His mother died, his father died, and now his Uncle Rupert is on the verge of death or will die soon. I truly believe that Xavier Frankie but is scared to give her his heart because he is fearful, and he needs to be fearful because he has Matthew, Lea, Katie, Joni and Maire and let's not forget Nonna that he has to face. This is the story of Frankie and Sophie's summer in London trying to be a family with Xavier. There were so many interesting things that happened while she was in London and especially when she went to Xavier's father home in Cambria. While this story made me think about what happened with Megan and Harry and all the snooty gossip papers in London. I loved this story, and I am upset that I have to wait until next month to read the final book in this series Last Comes Fate, I know that it is going to be awesome. This was book was well written and it was not just a good read it was a great reading series and in particular this book.
ARGH! She made me cry again! I love Frankie so much! Sophia is the light I needed to get through this one! Xavi has some things to answer for :( So we start this one with Elsie and Sophia arriving in The UK to spend the summer with Xavi. Xavi is royalty and not only has restaurants to run but an estate as well whatever that entails, and deal with what Uncle Henry has done in his absence. Its a culture shock but they navigate well until his step-mother shows up. I think this book details Frankie exceptionally. She had to grow up and make all the hard choices years ago, as a young single mother and she's dealing with the repercussions of a mistake she knows she made about not telling Xavi of Sophia's existance. She acknowledges and embraces that it wasn't the best decision, but since then as she's grown, she's had to grow up fast and make adult decisions. Xavi hasn't known of Sophia for as long as Frankie, so he has to make up for years in months, meanwhile everything around him starts to unravel, I was ready to allow him to make some mistakes and be a bit selfish. Becoming a parent and thinking of others needs over your own isnt something you can do over night. That being said, he's under pressure from all sides so when Frankie started to notice the cracks, she went into gear and tried to shore up the leaks, as well as deal with some uprooting herself, its just a lot on both of them, I know they can get through this and I have faith in this author and in Frankie in particular, she'll get her happy ending. They just can't see it yet. Its a wild ride through the UK for these three and I have every hope that when they land it will be together and with everyone happy and satisfied. And I secretly want to punch Georgina in the face, I hope she and Imogene get whats coming to them as well and I can't wait for June!
Sometimes we don’t realize what we’ve really lost until they’re gone,”
This book had so many omg and wow moments my emotions were rolling as much as Frankie’s! It was a great read and I really look forward to the next book!
I knew there was going to be a lot of drama with a girl from Brooklyn, New York going to high society London but I didn’t see Adam popping back up! That was really fantastic and a great storyline.
The addition of the paparazzi, totally spot on! In America, we know paps follow celebrities in Hollywood, NYC, big events and such but you don’t see them in the small towns 24/7. I think because England is a small country in size compared to America they easily get from A to B on these stories 24/7. Once they find something scandalous they don’t let go and love Royalty. I think someone is behind a lot of the stories to drag Frankie down further. She has to find a way to rise above the garbage they print and know that she and Xavier know their truth.
They love each other. They don’t know how to communicate. I kept yelling at Frankie while I was reading to “just tell him what you are thinking” lol. My heart was breaking for both of them as I was getting closer to the end of the book.
Then…..that ending OMG!! I cannot wait until the next book!
I have no idea how to start this review. I literally just finished this book and my heart has been ripped into shreds! It has been a while since we last read the first book of the Silver Spoon series. But when I got into this story for Then Comes Lies, it was like no time has passed.
Frankie and Xavi have so much more obstacles. From the paps to adjusting to a new life in a new area, it was just a disaster in the making. That made me nervous. I love these two characters and the love they share for Sofia. I was all over in my emotions and could not get these two out of my head after putting down this book.
There is angst in this story that will drive you nuts! A few new characters from the Parker clan and friends that will make you cringe. This book drove me crazy. I became hooked.
Then Comes Lie is a book that will have you holding your breath. Have you going crazy over the emotions it pulls out of you. You will have a love/hate relationship but realize you love it more. That ending has me shouting because it just can’t end like that!!! It’s a bombshell and I will be sitting here waiting for the next book. #2023BookRec
Xavier and Francesca spent one month together about five years ago, but then Xavier just upped and left. Francesca did everything she could to find him but then moved on. She is a schoolteacher and now a single mother of, yes Xavier’s daughter. At a party Francesca literally comes face to face with her past…
I don’t ever read books that are in the past and the present, but I sort of followed along with this one. After Xavier was ordered to return to his home in England, where he sort of is heir to a royal title and a fortune everything is not as it seems… But things are more difficult than he thought they would be. People working behind the scenes to ensure they don’t succeed…
The story was good. But you must read the first book. It was good seeing these two make a go of their relationship. So many things going on and so many characters to keep track of and enjoy. Suspense, drama, intense sexual heat and so much more. And again, this story ends in a cliffhanger. I don’t know if I missed it in the sign up or what, but yah. My review probably is all over the place, but once you read the story you will understand 😊 I recommend this if you one of those people who will be invested to read a story that spans over 3 books??
•Dual POV •Stand-alone, but would be better if read First Comes Love (Book 1) •Cliffhanger
This book was so good! I am invested in Xavier and Francesca’s story from the first book! I do feel that this book shouldn’t be considered a standalone because the story continues where it left off in the first book. The beginning of this book does give you some insight about what took place in the first book. As a result of that, I did feel like I was re-reading things and that some information could have been put in the first book instead.
But with that being said, once this dived into the next part of their journey, I was fully invested! God, the love between Xavi and Ces is so apparent and bold, but life just keeps standing in their way. When Xavi returns back to help his dying uncle, he’s taking on the responsibilities of a duke, which he never wanted in the first place. As a result of this, Ces & Sofia are placed on the back burner and Ces sees a side of Xavi she doesn’t like. They love each other so much, but is it enough for them?
And this cliffhanger 🤯 I need the last book ASAP, because these two truly do deserve their HEA!
After book 1 in this series I was so excited to get my hands on more of Frankie and Xav’s story.
The couple decide to embark on a new chapter in their lives where Xavier has invited Francesca and their daughter m, Sofia, to spend the summer in England with him.
Frankie hopes that this means that they will all get to know each other better as a family unit and also possibly continue the romantic relationship between her and Xav.
All is going great until Xavier gets called to Kendal (where his Dukedome is waiting for him) and Hugh also means less time with Frankie and Sofia even though he’s invited them along.
So, will their relationship blossom or die with the added pressures that they both face?
As always Nicole gives us drama, suspense, a great storyline and lots of romance. Boy, Xav his hot when he’s in a mood!!! But then I’ve also got to say, due to the great writing of Nicole, I was also so angry with him for some of the awful decisions he made (and how he went about it)
You also get the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers, which means I really can’t wait for the next book….honestly I really can’t! 😆
Francesca & Xavier spent a super sexy month together in the past, and feelings got caught on her side, but he ended up ghosting her completely, however he did leave a piece of him behind as the test turned positive. She did everything she could to find him, but never had any luck so she went on with her life as a single mother. Francesca is a teacher, and while that's a noble career, she doesn't get paid enough so she struggled but was a great mother. In the present time, she ends up coming face to face with him again out of the blue, and he gets her to come to spend the summer with him so he can get to know his tiny human. Francesca had no idea what she would go through in his world as not only is he a great London restaurateur, but pretty close to royalty, so all eyes are on her. Poor Francesca, she's doing her best to ignore the outside noise, but it escalated all over the place as his secrets unraveled so Nicole French kept me guessing. There's no doubt these two are perfect for each other, but they have to get through a lot if they want a happily ever after making it easy to devour this story in one sitting so don't pass it up as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I hoped that this book will be better than book one and in the beginning, I was enjoying all the London settings but then Xavier's character changed so much and I started hating him. Forget about being a good partner, he wasn't being a good father to Sophia either. Frankie's sister and that guy Adam (no matter how much I didn't like him, he was spitting facts) were right for saying that he should've done something to ward off the tabloids and his "family" because they were so damn cruel. Also the OW drama got on my last nerves and Xavier was so clueless about it that it made me want to hurl something at his head. I just wanted Frankie to stand up for herself so bad but I understood why didn't she leave sooner because somewhere Xavier was kinda emotionally manipulating her. She told him how she felt about being alone and judged quiet a few times but then he spun the conversation around and made it sound like he was going through a lot of distress. He belittled her problems and neglected both her and Sophia and that infuriated me. I just want him to grovel in the next book because honestly, Sophia & Frankie deserve so much better than his high and mighty ass.
Then Comes Lies is book two in the Silver Spoon series. This was a bit of a rollercoaster. Lots of emotion, secrets and betrayal. There were plenty of streamy moments too. Overall I enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to see what happens in book three. For a chunk of this book there were times I did not like Frankie or Xavier. Frankie was a bit naive, in my opinion, when it came to Xavier's life and expectations. Granted I know it was all new to her but she just seemed to be in her own little fantasy. On the other hand, Xavier was totally oblivious at times to what was happening to Frankie and it really made me mad when he brushed things off and didn't stand up for her. They were both at fault for the flaws in their relationship. I did love how Frankie stood up for herself in the end. I didn't like how she let the haters win in the end though. That ending left me wanting to throw my kindle lol. I want book three now and I really hope these two finally fight for the other, especially Xavier.
THIS BOOK. Gahh, Nicole French does it AGAIN. You experience all the feels on this rollercoaster ride! The highs, the lows, the sadness, the narcissistic prick lead male, the wallowing flower lead female, and the adorable daughter.
In true Nicole French fashion, you are left wanting and waiting to see how she will mend things to the best they can be. I am not a fan of cliffhangers or waiting for the next book, but her books are an exception to my rule. I will wait for anything Nicole French writes. Her work is spot-on with emotions and behaviors. Are there things about each main character that wants to make me scream? Yep. However, there are characteristics about both that I thoroughly enjoy! And that my friends, is why I continue to read her work! She weaves impressive storylines, filled with emotions and steam. Goodness, she writes amazing, steamy scenes. Good side characters and glimpses into the future with them as well. Looking forward to book #3! @theoriginialmrsp
What an amazing, emotional roller coaster! Then Come Lies is the second installment of Frankie and Xavier's journey of love, parenthood and now unexpected familial obligations. What started as a fun summer in London to spend more time with Xavier learning how to be a family took a hard left turn when Xavier got news that he had to return home and take care of the family estate. Frankie was then thrust into a completely new world unlike any other she had ever experienced. As always, Nicole French has woven a complex tale full of unexpected twists and turns as these two lovers try to navigate not only a new relationship but also a new family culture once they return to Xavier's familial estate. You will be on the edge of your seat watching the drama unfold and rooting for Frankie and Xavier to come together to conquer all of the obstacles put in their path. This book is part of a series and therefore would be best read in sequence. There is also a cliffhanger at the end which will have you very much anticipating and excited for the third and final installment of this series.
I’ve always loved trilogies—I think three books is the perfect length for a series to dive deep into a couple’s journey without dragging things out. The Silver Spoon series by Nicole French delivered exactly that: a slow-burn, emotional rollercoaster with just the right amount of drama, angst, and heart.
Francesca and Xavier’s story is messy, passionate, and full of real-world complications like addiction, privilege, forgiveness, and self-worth. I loved how Francesca stayed true to herself and how Xavier had to grow into the man she deserved. Their chemistry was undeniable, and even when they frustrated me, I was fully invested in their journey.
That said, I have to admit—I enjoyed Nicole’s Bad Idea trilogy just a little more. There was something about that story and couple that hit even harder for me. But Silver Spoon was still really good, and it’s definitely earned a spot on my reread list.
If you’re into emotional, character-driven love stories with a rich, layered plot and a satisfying arc, this series is well worth the read.
I don’t even know where to begin my heart hurts. I want to scream and strangle Xavier like seriously he made me so freaking mad. This is book 2 in this series and let me tell you it gutted me. The one thing you never question throughout this book is the love these two have for Sophia. Words can’t even begin to describe how much they love her and want what is best for her and really and truly want to be a family. It seems like every time these two start to move in the right direction there are outsiders trying to pull them apart and at this current moment it seems to be working. Frankie is one of the most selfless women and she would do anything and everything for Sophia and Frankie seriously puts up with so much and it isn’t easy. Xavier’s family is freaking trash the whole lot of them just straight up trash human beings. My heart broke for Frankie so many times and then we get to that whopper cliffy and OMG I don’t even know where to begin to unpack that.
The wait was worth the while when it came to this book! Francesca and Xavier are an unlikely couple that miraculously makes so much sense. After finding each other again in the first book, they now have to face challenges that come hand-in-hand with who Xavier is. It was an interesting change from their bubble in New York City where they were surrounded by Ces´s family to going to the UK to be surrounded by Xavier´s people.
The chemistry between Ces and Xavier is out of this world and it shows in their push-and-pull approach to the relationship. They love each other just as much as they are angry at one another, at the world. They want to make it work for themselves, but also for their little girl Sofia, who by the way, is such an amazing character and I say that as someone who is not usually fond of child characters in books.
I love this book so much and can´t wait for the next one, although I´m not ready to say goodbye to the characters just yet.
This is a brilliant book 💕 This is the continuation of the story of Francesca and Xavier. They move together with little Sofia in UK and try to be a family, although they fight their own battles with everything and everyone around them. Coming from different backgrounds, Frankie and Xavi fight to find the middle ground and to get the family they want. I really hope so in the next book... I have all my hopes in that book. Although I didn't read the first book, I fell in love with these two characters and I lived and suffered with them so I really hope the next book will be easier for them to get what they deserve. I have to mention the brilliant writing that mesmerized me from the first page. I highly recommend this book. I will read for sure the first one and I will count the moments until the next one.
