“Anyssa, my job isn’t to be worried about them shooting at me,” Gideon explained, once again scanning the grounds as the landscape disappeared behind them. “My job is to make sure that, if they are, it's because I’m taking those bullets for you.”
Gideon Three years ago, after being falsely accused of betraying the Russian mafia, the former head of the Bratva left Gideon Medvedev for dead. Barely hanging on by a thread, he's smuggled out of Moscow and placed on a private jet en route to emergency surgery in Denmark, where he dies.
Twice.
However, life offers him a second chance. He wants Anyssa Brandon as part of that second chance, and he doesn't care who he has to kill in order to have her.
Anyssa Some call her the Queen of Atlanta. Others, namely prosecutors, call her a fork-tongued viper whose knowledge of the law makes her a terrifying yet highly respected opponent.
However, right now, Anyssa Brandon is only worried about one thing: getting an acquittal for the Boss of the Irish crime family, Colm O’Sullivan, who’s facing three counts of first-degree murder.
She works Colm’s case like her life depends on it—because it does. Colm has already warned her that a guilty verdict will result in death for her, her two very young children, and anyone she holds near and dear.
Unfortunately for Colm, some of those who she holds “near and dear” are former members of a criminal organization themselves. So, on the one hand, she fights the case using her legal expertise. On the other hand, she prepares to fight fire with fire.
In this case, mafia with mafia.
Knight for a Queen is a BWWM romance featuring a dedicated alpha hero with a dark side who is completely devoted to making an intelligent, imperfectly perfect heroine his, regardless of who might try to get in the way.
This book is SO good, just as good as the other books in this series.
This is Anyssa and Gideon's Story, but we catch up with Pavel and Zaraia and their kids, Niko with Baby Aleks on his way. If you've read Moonlight Retribution - Book 2, which I know you did, then you remember that Anyssa's behavior crossed lines and I gave her the side eye. And, if memory serves me correctly, she was (trying) to Pavel and the whole kidnapping thing—yeah, that's next level crazy! You're gonna want to (re-read) read all the books in the International Mafia Series to catch up, though somewhat unnecessary, just do it anyway!
Anyssa is defending a less than stellar character that has threatened her life if she loses his case. He doesn't make it easy for her as he misses meetings and avoids her phone calls and still wants a positive outcome. She's under tremendous pressure and she fears for the safety of her family. Her daughter Jordan has a dream and tells Anyssa that she saw a bear coming into their lives to save them. Lo and hold, a bear of sort arrives and his name is Gideon Medvedev. Medvedev which means bear in Russian is exactly as predicted by Jordan.
Gideon pays attention when he meets Anyssa and she's well aware of him as well. Anyssa has more pressing issues to contend with, her utmost attention is literally, a matter of life and death. Gideon understands sacrifice but can he find a way for both of them to have it all AND each other?
I'll end my review here and suggest again that you read this book. Highly, highly Recommended: Read. This. Book.
If you've never read a K. Alex Walker book ... well, lucky you. You get to discover her for the very first time and I'm jealous of your book journey. No exaggeration, all of her books are good.
There are lots of laugh out moments, but I'm going to share one of my favorites ...
Gideon nodded. “You’re right. Carmichael, gel her up.”
While Chris globbed, he brushed.
Guilt tore manhole-sized openings in his heart each time he brushed and Jordan’s brows lifted into the heavens. Yet, she didn’t complain. All she did was wiggle, dancing to a song in her head while munching on a stick of string cheese that not even Jesus himself would get her to peel off one by one. It usually drove Micah crazy, but the chaos of the late morning served as a helpful distraction.
When Zaraia and Anyssa made it to the living room, Zaraia holding Aleks while Anyssa carried Jordan’s tutu, they’d gotten Jordan into her tights, shoes, and had made a decent-looking bun.
“Oh, wait. I saw this on YouTube.” Gideon swept the brush in delicate strokes along her hairline. “Baby hairs.”
Admittedly, it disappointed him when no one made a big deal about how fucking amazing the baby hairs looked, but he gave them a pass on account of them being late.
*****
This scene sends me into fits of laughter every damn time. If you've gotten caught up in the YouTube vortex of lace front wigs and the final styling touch of working those baby hairs then this scene will be especially hilarious to you.
I received an ARC for Knight for a Queen on 3/28/23. This will be a full and honest review on the third installment of the International Mafia series.
Overall Rating: 4.6/5
I knew I was going to enjoy this book from start to finish. It was my most anticipated book to read this year so far. Gideon and Anyssa just WORKED. Between his forwardness and his will to protect her by any means and then her quirky weirdness yet soft side that Gideon brings out in her, while all the craziness is happening, it's a great combination. This book takes place before book 2's epilogue in terms of timeline.
Characters/Character Development: 5/5
Every character in this book had such a great development. Since this was mostly about Gideon and Anyssa however, I'll focus on them and two other characters that stood out.
Gideon: From the moment he appeared I was screaming. I was already in love with him from the teasers and the book did him justice. He appears for Pavel & Zee's baby shower after almost fully recovering from his injuries he sustained by the hands of Yuri. We learn later that he was basically forced to join the Bratva even though he was Ukrainian with a family that took pride in who they were. It was unfortunate that Gideon was treated the way he was but he grew from the betrayal and found his way into Anyssa's heart. He knew he was looking for someone special, but Anyssa definitely threw him for a loop. His love and protective nature for Anyssa just makes him the total package. Like Jordan said, he needs her. Not only was he sweet to her, he managed to have Jordan on his team since day one and he and Micah was able to grow a special bond later down the road, which I will mention later. The one heartbreaking thing to know is that Gideon, because of Yuri, can't have kids. It was a shock to know especially since he wanted children. He wanted a family after we learned that he had a brother, Symon, who died a few years back, and that his niece isn't actually his niece because Symon's wife Lina had an affair with another man. But, family is not always by blood, and that's a key thing to take a way for not just Gideon, but for everyone involved in this book.
Anyssa: My good sis, the Queen of Atlanta.. the VIPER in the courtroom.. she became puddy in Gideon's hands. She's been burned heavily by Chris's betrayal even years later, and unfortunately had a small slip up with letting him back in her bed (I liked the stray cat analogy used to explain how her actions when she was younger in Mississippi reflected here). She knew Gideon was different. The way she fumbled, dropped stuffed, almost pokes his eye out, truly shows how much she was feeling him! She was able to really open up to him, find a will to love and trust again. From the times he was there for her, she was a goner. It just shows that it's okay to love again and put your heart out there. Her will to also help people doesn't go unnoticed, and that hasn't changed. She gets caught up with Colm O'Sullivan due to him "helping" her with a case that helped free four innocent boys from getting jail time they didn't deserve. She has a kind heart, an interesting personality, and a beauty that makes the readers see exactly why Gideon fell for her.
Jordan & Micah: Jordan.. this lil precious baby girl is GIFTED, y'all hear me! Her place in the story was so unexpected but so welcomed! Her story on the bear who saves her and leaves with her two eagle brothers, and then he saves mama bear (Anyssa) was absolute genius. From the beginning, she knew Gideon was coming. When she saw his right "paw", it was a done deal for her. She was so adorable throughout. And that epilogue.. BABY. When she learned Chinese mythology at 6-7 years old? I'm telling y'all, she has an old spirit taking over her body. A seer in the making! Her brother Micah, didn't initially take a warming to Gideon due to him wanting his parents back together. I hated the way Chris tried to spin things initially and not take any responsibility for his actions in all of this. But Micah had great development and he's so mature for his age. Gideon treats him like a little person who obviously sees situations in front of him and not sugar coat it, which Micah appreciates. He and Gideon even share their love of farming and that appears later in the book as well which is very heartwarming for the readers
BONUS: Even though I don't like Chris cheating behind, he did have growth in this book as well. There's a very painful moment in the book where Anyssa was literally on the cusp of losing her life, and she calls him and their kids to tell them she loved them. That really put things into perspective of not only becoming a better coparent, but realizing what you did was wrong and that the only way to make it better is to do right by their kids because Anyssa can be gone in an instant. Anyssa has moved on to happiness again and I was glad he realized that and wished her the best with Gideon.
Humor: 5/5
Absolutely loved it. Pavel kind of takes it for me. Every moment between him and Anyssa is something special because you can really feel the brother-sister bond between the two. His "witch" jokes and even moments where she plays on the joke with the kids is hilarious. Then some moments between her and Gideon where she was practically fawning over the man in her head and acting clumsy in his face, 10/10 that's what a good, attractive man does to you!
Plot: 4/5
The plot is around Colm, who I mentioned, and his part in why he's using Anyssa as a pawn. He got caught up on murder charges and has her try to clear his name. But man when all the truth comes out, I will say I was getting thrown in for a loop every turn. I thought it was one thing but it completely ends up something else entirely and I got somewhat lost until I reread that end section again. I won't spoil much in this aspect but I will say that who you think it is.. it definitely isn't. The hits put out on Anyssa, the dead people that come up, the people who were involved in the big case with the four boys, the Judge, Barnes the prosecutor. It's all so convoluted until it's pieced together. This is kind of how I felt with book 1, Eija and Dom's story. I definitely got lost when the truth came out there, and that initially took me away from the plot. Here is no different, but I still enjoyed nonetheless and I may end up rereading this again soon.
Grammar/Spelling: 4.5/5
There were a few small errors here and there, but nothing that took away from the story as a whole. I actually loved the text conversations as a part of the story to really get immersed even when Anyssa and Gideon weren't by each other. The messages looked to be right out of an actual phone which was cool, and the organization was perfect. Hopefully that gets done in the future by K. Alex because it worked!
Overall, definitely a great book. I'm so looking forward to Mori's story because of that epilogue. I'm also looking forward to Angel's & Assassins book 8 for Joel and Ayesha! (Dmitri and his twin boys are also quickly brought into the book as well.) I loved Anyssa and Gideon's journey and I love that it's not over yet!

Eh❓ could’ve done without this book honestly. Didn’t like that Anyssa’s scruples changed just like that to the point she didn’t flinch when murdering someone. And the whole suspense surrounding the murders and attempted assassinations just weren’t suspensing. Also in book 1 and 2 we see that pavel wanted out of the mafia life completely so why is it implied in this book that the security firm him & Gideon created is actually mafia-esque??
Meh, this one was middle of the road for me and disappointing given how much I liked the other two books. Anyssa is a famous defense attorney, divorced with two kids, and an ex-husband that's terrible when it comes to accountability for his actions that their marriage. Gideon is former Bratva, mafia roots, was tortured for something he didn't do and moved to the US to start over. Both Anyssa and Gideon have ties to characters in the first two books in this series so we get to see some follow up from those relationships. It would've been nicer had I not forgotten a lot of details and those stories, but it wasn't distracting too much from Anyssa and Gideon but did take away from their story a little. Anyssa is on the hook to an Irish crime boss because he helped her under the table get some kids off on bogus charges there the justice system did a terrible job despite evidence to the contrary. That case is also what cemented her reputation. She's now defending the Irish mob boss against murder charges since she's owes him.
When Gideon and Anyssa meet, it's at her sister's baby shower and they're both swept up in the instant attraction. Throw in emotional baggage from her marriage, that her oldest son doesn't like Gideon, and other insecurities and you get Anyssa not willing to go for what she wants. Good thing Gideon doesn't take her first no for her final answer. He pursues and gets the girl in the end. There's some danger here and there in the book and same late page WTFs but nothing too surprising.
I was skeptical throughout and especially with Annysa's reactions. Plus I still don't understand why all of a sudden someone was out for Anyssa's death. It came out of nowhere really and the one behind the hit was the person she was defending in court. Which made zero sense to me. There's some late character mastermind thrown in at the end that was out of place, the same with Anyssa's marshall brother and trying to order her to use government protection.
All in all, I think this book felt rushed in a way the others didn't. Having that high expectation makes me want to give this one a 2 but I think I'm being fair by leaving it at middle of the road, teetering to the left on the number line.
Knight for a Queen by K. Alex Walker is the third book in her International Mafia Series. We were introduced to Anyssa in the second book where her sister, Zaraia is the main female character. It was expected that Anyssa would be in rotation for her own story, but I was surprised to see that her ex-husband was an integral part of the narrative. More light-hearted and social than Pavel, Gideon has arrived just in time for the birth of his good friend’s child with Zararia. He is immediately smitten with Anyssa. She on the other hand is wary, having her heart broken in her first marriage, she is not ready to trust again. Ms. Walker is known for her wonderful stories involving the paranormal and it was great to see elements of fantasy in this rather hard hitting albeit amusing, romantic crime drama. While coming from the same world, Gideon and Pavel are markedly different; Gideon is more soulful and easygoing. He and Anyssa made an awesome romantic duo. As always, looking forward to Ms. Walker’s next great read!
Gideon and Anyssa, all I can say is wow! 5his book really just put me through the paces with a strong and intelligent female lead, not perfect but definitely relatable. I loved that Gideon's strength, patience, possessive alpha, but patient and understanding. The characters were a complete compliment for one another and the chemistry was off the charts. I enjoyed the romance and action in this book and the connection with the main characters from the other books in the series. It really tied the series together and added to the flow of the series. Great book! I had a hard time putting it down and find myself wanting more.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Life has been lifing, but congratulations to Knight For A Queen for being the first book in about 2 weeks that I've voraciously read without breaks.
I loved this. I love that the cover fits the imagery of Gideon. I love that Anyssa was able to read between the lines and figure out, once Bratva, always Bratva, aka but it's just a security firm 😂.
The book loses a star because there were times information was just coming from left field with regards to tying up the loose end of O'Sullivan. Then, Jordan's story, is it linked to another book by K.A.W. or what was the significance of the final scene?
The smut was fantastic. It was nice seeing the other characters from the other books but at times they were too intertwined with this story. Basically this is like a .5 story for Zaraia+Pavel. I loved Micah+Gideon and the garden.
So, in short, loved this series, loved this book, would definitely recommend if you have a Bratva with a black woman itch.
The international series continues with Gideon and Anyssa. Their instant attraction and chemistry is guaranteed and even predicted. Mystery, trust and survival are a must. A great story,.

So what can I say? I LOVE this series! I absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Moonlight Retribution so I was cautiously excited for this book. In Z and Pavel’s story I really was not feeling Anyssa, so Ms. Walker had a battle ahead of her to change my mind.
I’m happy to say she did. We get to see the Anyssa that isn’t just a shark in the courtroom, but the sweet, dorky, clumsy woman and that made her way more endearing. And well Gideon is just a sweetheart and you can’t help but love him. I enjoyed seeing all the kids as always. Jordan’s “stories” are so entertaining and I can’t wait to see what her latest one brings.
I wish the story with Symon and Lina played a little more heavily into the plot but not a big deal. I also wished we would’ve gotten a little more explanation on why Colm did what he did.
Pavel and Moonlight Retribution are still my favorite of the series. But Gideon has definitely come in second, sorry Dom!
I loved that this book showed how a strong woman Anyssa nicknamed Ma-damn cobra cause of her ruthlessness in the court room, could find a man that she could surrender to without changing herself. A lot of men are threatened by strong women as shown multiple times in this book but it takes a strong man to be her equal and partner and Gideon proved that he was more then man enough not to let doubts, insecurities or the past deter him from his goal of loving this woman. I also loved the banter between Pavel and Anyssa. It made me laugh more then once
There were times in this book that the dialogue was just too much. Anti- climatic. Will not recommend this book. Loved the previous books. This one wss just NO.
The third installment of this series was fun and I enjoyed a great deal of it. Let me preface by saying Anyssa was NOT my fave considering the goings on in book 2 but I trusted Walker. I'm not sure I bought the reasoning behind her behaviour in book 2 but what I did like was that she was more than one dimensional. I LOVED the fact that Anyssa could put down the strong and bad b**ch persona around those she cares for and that she was so flummoxed by her attraction to Gideon. One thing Walker is going to do is give her FMC the breadth to be vulnerable and its a strength of their writing. I loved the snark and banter Anyssa had with Gideon, Zee and especially Pavel 😂😂. It was great seeing the interactions. I also enjoyed the honest way Gideon went about building a relationship with Anyssa with all her baggage. His patience and openness was great, even when he didn't have to be. While I understood Anyssa's reluctance, I wasn't sure a woman as assured as she was would be so skittish all these years after what happened with Chris. Speaking of Chris, while I liked his comeuppance, it didn't fully address his manipulation towards his children. If I'm honest I do think Walker sometimes baulks at understanding that it's ok to cut people (even family) out of your life for doing disrespectful or untrustworthy things. It's a common issue I have sometimes with Walker's characters. They can be soft on boundaries.
A MASSIVE strength of Walker's is the ability to write masculine, possessive and dominant MMC that are NOT toxic and that RESPECT the women they are pursuing! So unbelievably rare especially in BWWM "romance". Truly one of the few authors that understand the balance and the need for emotionally mature and non-misogynistic male characters while still making them dominant and possessive. I also loved how vulnerable Gideon was allowed to be after what he's been through. YES to emotionally mature men. They're out there and we don't see them enough in romance! I also want to commend Walker for how they portray OTHER WOMEN in their books. I've complained many a time of BWWM authors writing women that are not the FMC in really disrespectful and awful ways, especially when they want to use those women to highlight how attractive the MMC is. So many authors have the MMC (and the FMC) be so unnecessarily horrible. I loved that Gideon wasn't that way when he understood a woman was attracted to him. It's possible to deal with unwanted attraction like a gentleman.
Now while I liked a lot of this book, I think where it failed was in a lot of the non relationship aspects. The whole Colm plot point was wasted and unnecessary. There just wasn't enough there to be suspenseful and what was made little sense. ***SPOILERS AHEAD***
Why did Colm hire Anyssa only to try and have her unalived in the 3rd act. Particularly when we know many of the incidents connected to Colm were plotted by Pavel and Gideon to establish their "security" company. Didn't care for adding in random characters that only show up to cobble together a (extremely weak) twist, that again made little sense, wasn't fully realised OR interesting. The main thing though that was so completely out of place was the stuff with Jordan and the frankly ridiculous past lives/seer stuff. I just couldn't. I love a paranormal but I don't want it sneaking into an already crowded and mildly successful contemporary romance that also wants to be romantic suspense. It was too much and too far fetched. I truly didn't like that aspect of the plot and it's execution. Especially having it be a child of that age AND with the way it seemed NO ONE CARED that this kid is spouting all this stuff and has vocabulary and attitude they shouldn't have. Just came off as weak and I would have preferred another random character be introduced in order to facilitate the Anyssa and Gideon instalust and the teaser for next books.
Anyway, overall I enjoyed it but with big reservations about some style and content choices. I will continue the series though as I really like Walker's characters.
I really don't know how you do it. I am very picky and meticulous about LOVING (5⭐ loving) books. I rarely give them out and most can never get it right consistently. She always manages to take a story on wonderful, page turning twists that have you gorging on the book until you're done. I don't even like to touch them initially, like holding your favorite food for just the right time and temp to savor it. Loved that Gideon and Anyssa (H/h) have so many layers that endear you to them both. Anyway is this strong, accomplished black woman that is a viper in her career but has an awkward side as well as vulnerable weak spots that make her very human, relatable and endearing without turning her into a 🍆matized airhead that uses no common sense after meeting Mr Wonderful. And Gideon also has layers with a complicated background/past that we see unfold. He's open to love in many ways while see him grow, change and mature realistically for who his character is. There is lots of twists and turns, with awesome story building that links and connects this book to the previous books in the series in a way that blends and reminds you of the old characters without overdoing it. Love that her storylines go somewhere!!! It make sense in the end and she always ties up all the loose ends that help you to see big picture for the H/h in the end (the Anyssa epiphany was excellent to help us connect the dots btw)...and you know she coming with the sexy steam as only she can. Love that Anyssa uses her brain and even has balanced judgment with Gideon, his life and how she moves with him...her brain hasnt let the building. This also has a realistic HEA that is awesome, but not sugar blossoms and cupcakes based who this couple really is and what they've been thru. Hits all my bells and whistles as a reader and book snob😁. aIm just so sad the book is complete and I have to wait for the next book. Definitely worth your time, money and read if you want a fully thought out, erotica with a complete story line.😉
Blended families can be tricky to navigate. The author did an excellent job of showing the dichotomy between children being loyal to their parents vs. the new person in a parent's life. The author also showed depth in each character. The characters were well developed, giving the reader a sense of who each character is, what they hold valuable, and their goals. I wonder if this is the last book in the series or if there will be another. Still, seeing Dom, Eija, Pavel, Zaraia, and Niko again was nice.
Each book in the series offers a different perspective on the Bratva, and each man has a unique story. I like how both Dom and Eija started without children but ended up together with a child and another on the way. I like how Pavel has a child, Zaraia doesn't, but she becomes a loving mother to Niko, and eventually they have Aleks, and lastly, how Anyssa has two, and Gideon loves them deeply as his own.
Each story was meaningful, with strong themes of family, forgiveness, healing, overcoming challenges and adversity, and love. It's a great series. Of course, there are parts that I didn't get. Maybe it's a generational thing, but in some of the sentences written, I didn't understand what the author was trying to convey. I'm not sure that I'm in the target audience for these books. Pavel and Zaraia are my favorite couple. I'm glad they made several appearances in book three.
There were notable parts that the author could have explained, like Gideon going by Miller and then suddenly having a reservation under his real name. That wasn't addressed and left me, as the reader wondering why not. The author continued strongly with Anyssa being skeptical about Gideon's motives even after he saved her life. That seemed odd to me.
Anyssa was a woman that everyone thought had it all together. She was a successful lawyer whose prowess in the court room had people calling her a viper. She was an amazing mother to her two children. She was a protective sister. She was also an ex-wife humiliated publicly by a man she pledged forever to that couldn’t stop cheating. She was broken hearted and scarred by love and wasn’t open to experiencing it again. She’s beautiful but guarded. She has the unfortunate task of defending a criminal who was guilty of many things but what he was actually on trial for. Gideon was an ex high ranking bratva member who barely made it out alive. He was starting over in a new state with a new life after recovering from life threatening injuries. He is tall, virile and handsome. These two encounter each other based on their close proximity with each others family members and their attraction is instant. As things unfold their attraction, interest and connection builds. There’s no denying the inevitable. There’s definite roadblocks along the way - conspiracies, hits, mistrust, fear, ex-husbands, kids, danger, murder attempts, kidnapping, mafia connections, and more but they make it through it all. Gideon is always and forever her protector and he keeps his promises. Good read!
I’m on the fence on the third entry of the “International Mafia Series” especially since I didn’t love Anyssa in “Moonlight Retribution.” I enjoy the writing, as always, but I didn’t feel a connection to Gideon/Anyssa as a couple or the story that catapulted their relationship. I didn’t see it as insta-love, they were both attracted to each other early but they weren’t soulmates in seconds — which I appreciated.
I loved how Gideon’s story is expounded upon but I wish the Symon angle would have been more of a plot point. It would have given Gideon more substance - like Pavel’s family background. But I do think this book does a good job of endearing the readers to Anyssa after the not so great image we were given in book 2.
Unfortunately, the Irish mob boss storyline seemed to be wasted and the random plot twist just kind of came out of nowhere. It really didn’t add much to the story, it just seemed to give Gideon more time to be the hero. I just don’t think it built a strong enough plot.
In the same vein, I loved the Jordan angle and the ideas of their fates being eternally intertwined. And I liked how the scene at the recital kind of mirrored her earlier bear and eagle story. But that epilogue was kind of confusing to me. Was that hint at a book 4 or was that supposed to be about them? Ending the book with that maybe cliffhanger just made the ending seem rushed.
I really love this series and the writing! I also really liked Anyssa a LOT more than I did in her sister's book. I love me some insta love so I was all over her and Gideon already being into each other even though she wasn't as on board with dating him because of her past with her selfish ass cheating ex husband.
Also for Gideon I like how everyone was like omigod this man is so big and tall, Anyssa if u don't want him ill take him.
When comparing this book to the past 2 ones this definitely is my top one and not necessarily because of anyssa and Gideon as a couple but more because the action/suspense element didn't have me as on the edge of my seat as I usually like BUT I also got to see them go on cute dates and stuff and him interact with her kids and their little found family all hanging out.
Also the scene where Anyssa definitely jumped to conclusions and assumed stuff that Gideon was doing behind her back, I stand with her actions! I supported her being a lil crazy over her man! 🫂
Overall super excited for the next book in this series if the epilogue is hinting at anything and the name mentioned definitely showed up in the first book so I almost forgot about him.
I also wish the epilogue had some more cute family time or boning stuff but I'll live.
Where do I begin! This book in this series reminded me a lot of the first one and I was definitely here for it! I absolutely loved this book, mostly because of Jordan and her premonitions and the relationship between Gideon and Anyssa was magical. I wasn’t sure if this book was going to take a turn for the worse at any point, but I’m glad their relationship developed naturally and organically. Anyssa didn’t dive in head first and it was that realistic piece of the story that made me love these two. We had already glimpsed Gideon in the first couple of books and Anyssa in the last. We knew that Anyssa’s ex-husband had cheated on her and she was coparenting their two kids with him. What we hadn’t seen was how broken and untrusting the divorce made Anyssa. We also hadn’t seen the aftermath of Gideon and all he had gone through to get to where he was at the beginning of the book. Both had to grow separately in their own ways but their growth drew them together. There were parts of the book that were pretty sped up towards the end, we went from a month of them dating, to a year in a span of a paragraph. However, Gideon is by far my favorite of these former mafia men in this series and for him alone I give this book 5 stars.
I liked this story I really did but there were too many names and characters by the last few chapters of the book and it took away the enjoyment from the book, I found myself trying to pinpoint who was who. Don't even get me started with the last 3 chapters, I was like huhn? What is going on? They took the villain colm and discarded him just like that and then did a ton of confusing things that would have worked well only if the storyline had been built from the very beginning of the story.
That aside I really liked Anyssa and Gideon's chemistry it was so good, their banter was hilarious, they were a pretty unserious pair. For the tough aura Anyssa projects she really was a soft person, she got jokes for days, this banter with Volk was so teasing and fun 😂. It was also nice to see that she didn't let the 5 year age gap between her and Gideon become a bone of contention, she hopped on that shit when she allowed herself. It was really nice to see the whole family come together, the family is expanding. Gideon's story was truly heartbreaking but he took everything in stride, may yuri continue to rot.
I’m a mafia girlie. I especially love a growly Russian mafia MC. And I love LOVE a Black woman getting her back blown out.
So this checked all of my boxes, and then some! Anyssa is a high-powered criminal defense attorney that’s been dubbed the Queen of ATL after getting 4 innocent teens off in a story that runs parallel to the Central Park Five. Gideon is a former man of the bratva and friend of Anissa’s brother-in-law. He’s immediately smitten with her and decides he’s going to get what he wants.
He just has to get through Anyssa’s ex, her son Micah, and all the walls Anyssa’s built up post-divorce. And there’s maybe a small issue of her very criminal client and a hitman with an unknown target.
This is the perfect combination of “touch her and you die” vibes, main character kids (omg, the 5-year oracle Jordan is everything), suspense, and a woman who deserves to be worshipped finally getting what she’s due.
Must read this (and all the other books in the series so you can appreciate the cameos)!
I have read this book multiple times and I enjoyed it every time. The story revolves around Anyssa Brandon, a highly skilled defense attorney, who reluctantly represents a client she doesn't want to defend. One day, her daughter Jordan narrates a story to her about their life as bears. The story is about a brave bear who rescues Jordan and her mother bear from some bad men.
Meanwhile, Gideon Medvedev enters the scene. He is attracted to Zaraia's beautiful sister and asks her out. As Anyssa and Gideon's relationship grows stronger, so does the danger surrounding Anyssa's case. It seems like someone is trying to prevent Anyssa from winning the case, but could there be something more sinister going on?
In the third book of The International Mafia series, Gideon promises to protect Anyssa from any harm that may come her way. The book offers an intriguing and thrilling mafia romance story with a bit of an age gap. It was great to see the return of Dom and Eija, Pavel and Zaraia, and Niko. If you enjoyed the previous books in the series, you'll love this one too!
Ms. Alex Walker takes love at first sight to beyond. This story felt like part slice of real life and part fantasy nicely woven together. I don't know if I was in the right mood when I first started reading this story, but I had to put it to the side for a few days because the pacing seemed slow at first. But when I picked it up a week or so later, I was in the right frame of mind because I became addicted. There are so many funny and awe moments in the book. One of my faves is when Annysa thought she was stealthy. There are so many statements throughout the book that showed the author's sarcastic humor and I was in for it. I loved the chemistry between the main characters. I especially love how Gideon acknowledged the validity of Annysa's distrust because of her past relationship experience. Then the end was like, "Wait a minute - I now have to wait for what will clearly be a banger."
OMG 😱 this series is WOW 🤩… speechless is what I am!!!! Get this series ASAP; you are missing out!
This is by far the best series specially this book. I loved me some Pavel and Dom (more Pavel than Dom) and Eija was just too gangster for me while Zaaria was just too lame but man this couple: “Anyssa and Gideon” beautiful simply splendid, beautiful and spectacular. Book 3 was the epitome of this series. I had to reread Pavel and Zaaria to realize that Anyssa was the big sis married to Chris. This was her story with Gideon and what a beautiful story it was. Now, Jordan was the best Aldo in there and the only downfall was hoping that all of this would have still given Gideon his legacy, but the power he got with Pavel…. I can tell you this, if there is another book, I am reading it asap and Y’all need to get in this series if you haven’t already started it ….
This was not my favorite book by this author. Although there were some humorous and poignant moments, the overall story lacked cohesion. There seemed to be too much going on. The relationship between Anyssa and Gideon was good, but pale in comparison to Saraia and Pavel in book #2.
Jordan’s imagination, the situation with Silina, the interactions with Colm…just a lot of activity but lacking balance. The ending leads to me to believe there will be a fourth book in the series and if it is, I hope it’s better that this one. My 3-star rating is based on the occasional humor and tender moments, but that’s about it.
“Angels & Assassins, The Wolf” and “The Gatekeeper” continue to be my all time favorites that I read over and over again.
Knight for a Queen is a top tier IR mafia❤️,the final 📕in the International mafia trilogy & it is filled with suspense, intrigue , mystery & 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Gideon suffered unimaginable betrayal, torture & injuries at the hands of former Bratva boss Yuri, but with his awesome friends, Dom, Dimitri & Pavel, he rose like a phoenix , survived & thrived. He knew Anyssa was his person as soon as they met😘& her pursued her to their happy ending. I 😍😍😍Gideon, he is alphalicious, but also a stone cold killer, who unalives enemies with vengeance & without remorse😨. It was a bonus to see how my fave Niko was happily growing up with his mom Zariah and Dad Pavel 🥳
I’ve read the entire international mafia series and each one gets better. To learn that Gideon didn’t die at the hands of Yuri made my day. In the first book with Dom and Eija Gideon seemed like the quiet protector who liked drama series but he was so much more. He was loyal, protective and deadly and persistent. This was probably my favorite book of the three because it changed my mind about Anyssa and helped me understand why she was the way she was especially about her sister. Their story didn’t move to fast or slow it was a perfect pace.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
**No Major Plot Points Revealed** What a satisfying addition to the International Mafia Series. I absolutely loved the first two books with strong emphasis on Moonlight Retribution. In this story Gideon and Anyssa take centre stage. Sparks ignite immediately when these two first meet. As they begin to know each other it becomes crystal clear that they are simpatico. The narrative is well-paced and Ms Walker’s character development is straightforward. This is not my favorite of the series but it was certainly worth the read as Gideon is a real keeper.
