His name was Fire Lieutenant Byric Sandstone—an extremely wealthy Hyrrokin landowner, with a complicated estate.
Obviously, I’m not really his widow. It’s a technicality, on paper so I could bypass immigration and perform my duties. Everyone but the lawyer who forged the signature thinks I’m really Byric’s chosen bound, but my real job is to care for his elderly grandmother and his three-headed wulver. I love my cushy life on Tarvos.
One night, the front door to the mansion bursts open. A disheveled, wild-eyed and monstrous Lieutenant Sandstone returns home, having escaped from his prison cell behind enemy lines.
Wait, my husband isn’t dead?
“Who the hell are you?” he rasps.
“Your bound,” I whimper from underneath the sheets.
Michele Mills lives in California and leads a life of quiet, G rated desperation with her husband and two sons. In an attempt at a fulfilling, R rated inner life that does not include Disney movies and Nickelodeon; Michele reads and writes filthy romance and, well...filthy romance. And she wouldn’t have it any other way.
So considering this is book 10 of 11 and the first book I've read in this series, you can definitely still read these out of sequence and not be lost.
This story was funny to me, in certain ways that the dialogue was presented. It made me laugh 😂 but in a good way. How quickly certain circumstances moved, kinda gave me whiplash, but overall, this is what I would call a "Simpleton Enticement" read. It had all of the elements of a great intense read in theory, but left me wanting in other areas.
Mainly there was no real intense passion with the MCs for me. They were super cute and sweet together, which I love. But a story with the type of circumstances here, I was hoping for much more intensity on all fronts, honestly, the pacing and how quickly certain major things were just readily accepted by the MCs, didn't feel organic to me. That's why this one got just 4 ✨

It's still a cute, sweet, quick read. I would recommend this one.
This book, and I believe the entire series, is currently on KU
I’m sorry, but the writing was awful. Many statements were repeated. Basically the whole book was just the same things repeated in different (sometimes the same) ways. Something new would happen and thoughts or actions would be brought up again and again. It was redundant and boring and everything could be guessed. I skimmed and was rolling my eyes over the love at first sight trope and how quickly the entire relationship evolved. They consummated their “marriage” within 24 hours of meeting and they became bound. Which means they’re together forever. No divorce. And babies will start popping out quickly.
His Human Widow is book ten in the Monsters Love Curvy Girls series by Michele Mills
It’s a quick insta-love romance. I enjoy picking up The Monsters Love Curvy Girls series for a quick smutty fix.
Out of the darkness love will bloom. I enjoyed how Gabby was willing and able to take on the challenge of an estate in turmoil and find herself there. I like how our hero was in a dark place, but with help finds his way to the light. It’s full of action, overcoming past trauma, a side of danger and betrayal.
His Human Widow is marred with repetition, but still cute and enjoyable.
The love affair in this story may have begun in subterfuge, but it ended in a HEA that I’ve already read more than once. I enjoyed how Gabby was willing and able to take on the challenge of an estate in turmoil and find herself there. And how exciting that a premonition made all the difference. This book was full of action and overcoming past trauma, with a side of danger and betrayal, which kept me enthralled until the very last page. I have enjoyed every book in this series and I can’t wait to see what the next one brings.
So I picked this up because I fell for one of those book-tok/igreads comercial. And I loved it. It was short and sweet and I instantly fell for both characters. Now considering this is book 10 of 11 so far and I just started the series with this book I’d say run and read them. Just don’t expect anything really crazy. It was just like I said short and sweet and on KU.
It's a cute story marred by repetition! Why did we need an entire chapter of indecision? Other than that, it was an entertaining plot with likable characters (except for the villain, of course).
Gabby (h) is hired by a Hyrrokin lawyer, Markis, to pose as the widow of his friend, Byric (H), who was supposedly killed in battle. As Byric’s widow, she can protect his property, family, and friends, a part which Gabby thrives in. But Gabby is surprised when Byric shows up after two years and discovers her in his bed claiming to be his bound. As gabby and Byric spend time getting to know one another, he realizes that Markis may have actually found his true bound for him and that he wants to truly make Gabby his. Hot and steamy Hyrrokin-human romance with a side of danger and a lovely found family.
His Human Widow is the story of Byric and Gabriela or Gabby Sandstone formerly Martinez.
Tropes: HEA and kids, Eliona, and a son, and another on the way Wounded army fire lieutenant with a dirty mouth and a hot bod hero Smart intelligent gets her way caring and kind heroine Age gap I think Insta attraction VERY POSSESSIVE AND PROTECTIVE
He was on a mission and it went rogue and he was captured by mercenaries and was being tortured but managed to escape with his fellow prison mates he formed bonds with. They tried once but failed but tried again and succeeded. His friend Markis to make sure his cousin Gildred who is the one who made him get captured and was supposed to be killed get all his money and the liquid gold in his backyard, hired a woman from New Earth to be his real fake bound. She didn't even know the guy. Gildred had a huge crush on Gabby but she was never influenced. So on Tarvos he was presumed dead for 2 years until he escaped and came back to a woman in his bed who explained everything to him and stitched him up and they fell asleep until the next day he met his wulver Longstone who would've been dead if not for imprinting on Gabby and his workers, Mildred, Coric, Yergot and then later, Markis who wanted Gabby to be on her merry way but Byric was not having it. He made her stay and the two grew closer and closer and they did the deed and she got preggers and during that time she made him forcefully tell Hattie who is one of Gabby's good friends and Byric's grandmother of his return and she was the who believed he was still alive and breathing, she had a vision the day of his return but Gabby didn't believe her. Now moving on, Yergot who is the groundskeeper gets insight that Gildred who is also the Mayor is coming to kill him and Gabby with a team of mercenaries and she skurt skurt's them outta there but get caught and mind you she is pregnant and Gildred is mad asf at that he's like if I can't have you, no one can. Then he tries to kill them but she kills him first and also Longstone get's injured omd so sad. Moving on, he declares her his bound and the ring and everything then he is caught by military officials and is taken away for a month for questioning but he is back and 5 years later they have a daughter named Eliona, a son and another on the way hehe. I love how easily they fell in love and how understanding she was of the trauma he went through and the nightmares he had and how she helped him through one. Mind you during this time, its raining season so it's quiet but hotty time quiet and omd the poker and strip poker they played was hot as fuck and that shower scene was chefs kiss.
Solid 4/5
Quotes: And then I let out a squeak of surprise when Byric pulls me into his arms, sets me on his lap and kisses the top of my head. Like I’m light as a feather. “Thank you, female, for all that you have done. I know it has been difficult, posing as my bound, but as Yergot said, it was for a good cause. And thank you, Yergot for remaining this whole time. It helped my sanity, knowing you were here. But on the other hand, I had no idea if you could remain because of events beyond your control, like Gildred and the liquid gold.”
My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this book.
I so enjoyed listening to Gabby abd Byric's story, their love story is one I found easy to become engrossed in. The characters are so well-drawn and easy to connect with.
When Fire Lieutenant Byric Sandstone was reported killed in action, his good friend and Lawyer Marcus hired Gabby to take care of Byric's Estate, to keep it intact, to care for his Grandmother Hattie and his three-headed Wulver Longstone. The only way she can do this is to pretend to be his Widow. Marcus forged Byric's signature and told everyone that a ceremony was performed on another planet and that she then left New Earth to join Byric as his Bound only to find on her arrival that she was now a Widow.
Gabby has spent two years in mourning as Mistress of the Manor, refusing all offers from willing males on Tarvos where all on the estate, especially Hattie treat her as part of the family. The rainy season on Tavos lasts for a month and Gabby isn't looking forward to spending it alone in the Manor. Then on the first night of the rainy season, Gabby receives a shocking surprise. One which changes everything, Byric is alive and has returned to the Manor, he was imprisoned and tortured but has managed to escape on his arrival home he's shocked to find Longstone, his beloved Wolver alive and everything as he left it. The first thing he does is take a shower, he then plans to go to bed, only to find Gabby sleeping in it!
What follows is a wonderful story, hilarious at times as two strangers find themselves lockdowned together for a month. I have to say I did enjoy the steamyness between them and how his Pretend Bound became his real Bound and I loved the way their connection and friendship morphed into love.
The storyline and characters are great, I loved Hattie, but this story isn't all laughter and steamy times, there is drama and betrayal too but no more spoilers from me you will have to listen for yourself - You Won't Be Disappointed.
The narration by Ramona Master and Patrick Zeller is excellent, they bring all the characters to life and make you feel every emotion.
Plot: Byric, a military hero, is presumed dead. His best friend doesn't believe he is, though, and so he hires Gabby, a human, to pose as his widow. In that capacity, she moves into his estate, taking care of the home and his grandmother until the mystery can be solved. It is definitely solved when Byric reappears two years later, very much alive. Even though her task is over, maybe Byric would like to keep her on, in all capacities.
Commentary: I picked this up after having read the first few in the series and then stopping. They are all pretty much the same underneath the specific premise (nanny, widow, runaway, etc.). There is a "curvy" girl (and actually curvy (which is contemporary for overweight, which I say only to contrast with twenty years ago, when romance curvy meant extra-busty)) who is for some reason on this alien planet and since the aliens on this planet like their females to look like this, they are smitten with these adorable human women. They fall in love and the aliens mate them as soon as they can. There are babies at the end. So it was fine for what it was but I think I maybe outgrew this type of offering from the author. Actually, she started her career with an apocalyptic trilogy that I loved and she has an alien standalone that had a royalty/medieval vibe almost, and I loved both of those. I would love more stories like those, so I'm not giving up hope. I've just been saturated with the insta-love alien/curvy girl stories.
This is an OK sci-fi alien romance, but I did have some issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.
First, it was too short to have as much character development as I like. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Byric and Gabby.
Gabby was likable, and I loved that she took her job so seriously. She considered Byric's employees, grandmother, and pet her family, and loved them all deeply -- even though she was pretending to be his widow.
Byric was likable, too, and I liked that he immediately realized Gabby was truly his mate. I also liked that she accepted that quickly, soon after they met.
I liked that curvy girls were considered beautiful in Byric's world, since everyone on his planet was much larger than any human. I also liked that most of the people were openly welcoming to other races, and were fascinated with humans.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I read this book after getting it from a free promotion on Amazon, and for a quick read, it was pretty fun. I enjoyed Byric's character, and unlike Gabby, he pretty much stayed in character for much of the book, which I liked! Gabby was an interesting character as well, but I felt at times that she strayed from being sweet and a little uncertain to suddenly being bold and confident in all of her choices. Again, this isn't a bad trait to have, but it felt too sudden, especially when nothing incited it. Out of all the characters, Longstone was absolutely my favorite!
I do wish we had more drama with Byric's return. I expected more of a reaction from Hattie when she discovered her grandson was alive, but I suppose since she expected it from her premonition, then her response was justified. This is definitely an insta-love book, with Byric and Gabby consummating their "marriage" within 24 hours. The tension was palpable, but I wish we'd gotten more of Gabby and Byric interacting outside of just mating. I'm a sucker for HEA with families, so I love Byric and Gabby's growing family!
I think, all in all, this quick read was enjoyable, though I did cringe at certain points within their consummation, just for the word choice. I'd love to know more about the alien culture, and maybe see it explored a bit even though the focus is on romance. I could very well see this being a full-length novel. Byric's panic attack is a point I feel could be fleshed out more, especially since it didn't come on his first night home, rather only after consummating with Gabby.
We're back on Tarvos with a human lady who finds herself in a bit of a pickle when the Hyrrokin male she's "married" to suddenly comes back from the dead. Not literally. The guy was held in a prison camp for the past two years and he's not AT ALL displeased to find Gabby occupying his house and bed. In fact, he likes it quite a bit.
Byric is a little bit of a mess when he first stumbles across Gabby (he just planned and executed a daring escape from a prison, after all), but his arrival coincides with the start of the rainy season. So he and Gabby have a month to hole up and figure things out. Honestly, it doesn't take him more than one encounter for him to know she's the one for him.
BUT...there are complications. Namely, he didn't actually bind himself to Gabby (the reason she's pretending to be his widow makes sense in the context of things, but what she did was still technically illegal) and Byric's cousin is sniffing around and won't take kindly to Gabby suddenly being off the market.
Let's just say there's a little going on under the surface and Byric's sudden reappearance mucks things up a bit. Not that it stops the big guy from wooing his lady and getting ready to reenter society.
A little danger, a lot of rain, a household of folks happy to see Byric again, a lady who's found her place, and a male who's more than thrilled to be home again. *thumbs up*
The amount of times the MC says "Heh." makes me want to barf.
"All humans where foot coverings..." I'm sorry, do you mean WEAR. wtf.
The amount of descriptions of the FMC's body and odes to her being curvy are so frequent that I just want to roll my eyes for the entire duration of the book. I get that it's a big part of the appeal and that it's party of the whole series title, but come on. We get it, she's thick, can we please focus on her actual personality, habits, or other traits now? FFS.
She literally just described his entire race as "scary as hell, straight out of nightmares, and satan looking." ....not exactly one of the first things you want to say to your new husband but I guess do you?
She's known this man, who just escaped from a super traumatic stay in prison where he was tortured for the last two years, for exactly one whole night and is now agreeing to be his mate forever and have his babies, jfc.
I'm not saying that the book was bad in any way, shape, or form. There were just a lot of things I don't typically like in books, as well as cliche things that made my eyes roll. I enjoyed the story and the characters and I genuinely enjoyed the book for the most part and will likely read a few more from the series, I just can't handle the cookie cutter plot points that you have to "tick" in a plus size alien romance.
This series is one of my favorites during my 40+ years of reading romance! Yes, it's such a treat to spotlight curvy women adored and cherished by impressive males but also with the understanding that all women are priceless and should be adored and treated as such.
The veteran hero is a eye opening look into what our military members give to protect us all. The curvy woman side looks into true family financial issues when a family member is denied the opportunity for higher level education due to the expense.
Ms. Mills talent and imagination is so welcome for all the young girls and women that feel less than desirable. Additionally her writing style truly supports "Beauty Is In Eye of the Beholder".
I also commend Ms. Mills for her insight into developing romantic stories that includes the perfect fit of action and recognize all people are unique. Her world building is imaginary without a flood of made up words for common nouns.
I also commend for Amazon for developing an platform to give authors an opportunity to publish their works and also pricing Kindle Unlimited affordable to the masses for all ages and interests. To coin a phrase " Reading Is Fundamental ".
This was the first book in this series that I read but it definitely won’t be the last. I like paranormal romance so I thought I would give “monster” romance a try. Byric, the assumed dead fake husband…I picture when Hell Boy would look like if he was played by Henry Cavill with the horns. (Spoiler) It was your typical, pretend to be the widow, husband comes back from the dead, locked together due to planetary storms, secrets uncovered, small battle/fight scene and HEA. Ot was an easy read-I finished the book in one sitting. I really liked Gabby as well as the other characters. I wish there was a little more depth with Byron returning from being a POW and it did seem like the author kinda glossed over his trauma and recovery, but that’s a human perspective and he’s a monster. It also kept it light e ouch that this could be read after something darker and more intense. There are also some questions I had about the other alien populations and new earth but those could have been addressed in earlier books. Nothing that would keep me from staring the series from the beginning or rereading this one. If you like Lara formal give this a try. If you like monsters it’s worth a read. Happy reading.

For the past 2 years, human Gabby has been the fake wife of presumed dead Hyrrokin Byric, living in his home, taking care of his staff and his 100 year old grandmother, and maintaining his estate. When he escapes from prison and makes it home, he is shocked to find her in his bed, claiming to be his bound. This being a romance novel, we know it has a happily ever after ending, and a sweet one at that.
Michele Mills is one of my favorite authors. From the cover to the end, her stories captivate and entertain. Gabby is likable, and her lie is hard for her, but she maintains it for the good of Byric's family. Byric is a noble man, who runs with it, knowing what could have happened to his home without her. The other characters are just as wonderful. Each book in this series has been better than the last, and I hope we don't see the end of it any time soon. Each book may be read as a stand alone, but you are best off not missing any of them. His Human Widow is absolutely worth one clicking right now. Don't miss it!.

'This may sound weird, but I feel like I know you already. I mean, I know we never really met before last night but you don’t feel like a stranger.”'
I loved this book. I've always enjoyed all the books in this series, but I think this one may be my favorite. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved the premise of this one. Gabby was secretly hired by the MMC's friend to pose as Byric's widow to protect his wealthy estate from being claimed by his greedy cousin, to care for his senior grandmother, and to bond with his wulver to keep him from madness and being put down. I loved her from the start, and how she bonded with the staff and Longstone (I wish I had my own!). After Byric escaped the prison camp he was held in and rushed home in fear of what he might find- or not find- I respected how quickly she relinquished any claim to anything to him- even sleeping in the same room. She was compassionate, kind, and considerate. I loved how their first meeting went. I really liked Byric as well and how he and Gabby bonded. They had chemistry from the start. A fun read with a great couple and wonderful supporting characters. 5 stars
A light, short, and steamy sci-fi romance like the others in the series. However, unlike the others this one seemed to lack tension - i.e. a reason they couldn't be together beyond the simple fact of being strangers. Also, I usually think this author does a good job of making characters that readers can buy into even in relatively short reads, but I had trouble with these characters. The characters' thought process from 'we can't' to 'we can' didn't make sense to me and lost me in places (and yes, that's with me using the pretty low bar I use for SFR).
In summary, this book was mainly lust with a small bit of PTSD and some action / drama towards the end. The heroine, Gabriela 'Gabby' Matinez, is a young woman posing as a military hero's widow in order to act as caretaker for the estate. The hero, Fire Lieutenant Byric Sandstone, is a military man who has been imprisoned in a POW type camp for the past two years.
*****Spoiler Alert***** This Book Includes Violence. PTSD nightmare hard to wake hero from, action assault & car escape sequence that ends in shooting the bad guy dead. Sex. MF sex.
I loved this story from start to finish. Gabby is a delightful human "widow" living on her legally declared deceased war heroes estate with his staff (who are like family), his Wulver (Hyrokkin pet...think three headed fire breathing bad@ss dog) & her dead husbands 100 year old grandmother who lives nearby. All the main characters are wonderful. Each interesting, intelligent, unique & fun in their own way.
But guess who is not dead? Yep, her husband, Byric. He escapes from an enemy prison where he was hidden & brutally tortured for two years with several other prisoners. He shows up at his estate to find Gabby & his Wulver, Sandstone, in his bed. He wakes her up & asks who she is 😯. That's when the story really takes off. I'm not going to spoil it for you, It's too good.
It loses a star for grammatical errors. I'm definitely not grammatically correct all the time, but I'm not a professional author. I found the errors distracting. Thankfully, there weren't too many.
It was cute and I had fun reading it. This is the first one I've read of the series and was able to understand it. There were a few words here and there that I understood the context of, but I wondered if it was thoroughly explained in another book, but it didn't matter much.
The first bed scene was my favorite.
However, a lot of statements were repeated. I wondered if the male lead, Byric, wasn't listening or if the author just didn't remember. Also, there was a miscalculation at the end. The grandmother was 102 years old at the end, but when we met her, she was 100, and then five years passed in the epilogue, so shouldn't she be 105? But it did make me wonder. If their species can live long, Byric mentioned that the grandmother could probably live until she's 150, then what's going to happen to our main couple? Is Gabby going to die while Byric continues living? Will he decide to die straight after her? Or is she going to live longer now that she's actually bound to him? So many questions.
His Human Widow is the tenth book in this wonderful series of Hyrrokin/Human bonding and takes its place as another delightful read. Gabby has been hired by the attorney of Fire Lieutenant Byric Sandstone to impersonate herself as his widow for the purpose of keeping his estate out of one particular relative’s greedy hands as Byric went missing on a mission and is presumed dead. Gabby has come to love the Hyrrokins who live on the estate and enjoys her job but frets over having to keep up the ruse until one dark stormy night (queue music) who shows up but Byric Sandstone after escaping from the prison he was being held in and is absolutely not deceased. I enjoyed this well written new story and found it a fun and captivating read as these two engaging characters get to know each other over the course of the Hyrrokin rainy season and discover they truly are real bounds.

His Human Widow by Michele Mills is the tenth book in her Monsters Love Curvy Girls series, and it was such a TREAT of a read!
Gabby and Byric are fun and dynamic and have sizzling chemistry.
Gabby is sweet, trying to do the right thing by those she loves, trying to do her job right, and trying to live her life, being accepted for who she is.
Byric is driven, focused, coming to terms with his life experiences, and striving to gain back control over all he's lost, including his surprise of a bound he wasn't expecting!
There is some light angst and drama, a lot of banter, poignant moments, and love flowing throughout this quick, engaging read. You won't regret diving in and finding out how the widow falls for her husband!
P. S. I. Flipping. Adore. Longstone!
P. P. S. Bring on the next in the series, I am READY!
What an exciting story! Fire Lieutenant Byric Sandstone gets abducted and imprisoned during a military peacekeeping action, and it takes him two years to escape and return to his planet and estate. In the meantime, his best friend and estate attorney, Markis, who does not believe Byric is truly dead as reported, puts together a plan to protect Byric’s grandmother, his wulver, and his estate until Byric returns. Markis hires Gabriela to be Byric’s false bound. After two years of playing the role of Byric’s widow, Gabby has fallen in love with the ghost of her deceased false bound. Imagine her surprise when her bound returns! These two were meant to be a couple as it turns out, and they fall in love for real, with lots of spicy moments! This was a fun journey on Tarvos with the wonderful fire-breathing Hyrrokins. I absolutely love this series!! Can’t wait for the next book!
Gabby Sandstone, ahem, Martinez, is just doing a job to help take care of her family. She knows this life isn't real but the more time she lives as the widow of Byric Sandstone, the more she wish it was real. Byric has been in a living hell for the last two years but he's survived it all to return home. Imagine his surprised when he finds a gorgeous human posing as his bound. Well, that's one lie he'll make real. He just got to convince Gabby to stay.
I love these instant-love, fated mates story since they always bring a smile to my face as I know what I'm getting myself into. Michele Mills always does such a wonderful job with them and this one is no exception. Enjoyed it, need to go back and read the books I missed out on in this series, and definitely looking forward to the next one!
Hired to pose as the widow of a fallen soldier, Gabby has carved out a decent life for herself amongst the Hyrrokin, but she is surprised when her dead Bound appears on his estate during the rainy season…
Another quick read in this rather charming alien hero series. This is not really linked to any of the other stories in the series, so it can be read as a standalone, though it is better to have read the others if only for a better understanding of the setting and world of the Hyrrokin. It’s a romance, which does mean a few sex scenes, and of course being the Hyrrokin, that means there are a few action parts too! An enjoyable tale, this is a good read for sci-fi romance fans, especially those who love curvy girl and alien/monster hero stories.
In just 2 hours, I was able to finish reading this book! I was hooked as soon as I start reading. I really love how Michele Mills writes her books! A touch of quirkiness and lots of spice!! Unique plots, detailed descriptions and easy to read! I can't get enough!
I was looking forward to this book and indeed it did not disappoint! Every chapter is worth the read. I love how the character of Byric is very straight forward and clear headed. He knows what he wants and he fights for it! Also the courage and love of Gabby to everyone made the story more wholesome.
