Hotelier Stephen Sanderson is dead. Stabbed after hosting a police officer’s wedding. Chief Superintendent David Ashworth is a family friend of the victim and assigns the case to Meredith. Sanderson had a past that the family would rather keep quiet if it’s not related to his murder, but Sanderson’s life style provides the police with many suspects, including some in his own family.
Patsy Hodge is trying to track down a dangerous stalker with very little to go on, and is surprised when one of her suspects is required to supply an alibi for one of Meredith’s.
As their investigations gather pace, it is revealed that all their suspects are connected one to another in a web of deceit.
Who will untangle the web, and will it be in time to stop others being harmed?

Having worked in the property industry for most of her adult life, latterly at a senior level for a corporate agency, Marcia finally escaped in 2010. Whilst she still works as a consultant for several independent agencies, she can now dedicate the bulk of her time to writing and of course reading.
Misplaced Loyalty was her debut novel in published format, and introduced the popular Meredith & Hodge Crime series. In 2017 Marcia published Witness for Wendy the first in the Bearing Witness series. She has also written several stand alone novels.
Marcia is married with two children and lives in Bristol UK. Marcia can be contacted at www.mkturnerbooks.co.uk
DCI John Meredith catches the case of a hotelier murdered during the wedding of Meredith’s subordinate officer to a friend/co-worker of Patsy Hodge, Meredith’s wife. The hotelier has a shady past his family would like to be kept quiet, but he’s such a horrible person the suspects (including some of his own family members) are falling out of the trees so keeping things quiet is going to be a problem. While Meredith works the case, Patsy, a PI, hires on to stop a woman’s stalker. Turns out her case and Meredith’s will intersect more than once.
I am a long-time fan of this series and book 12 did not disappoint. I like Patsy’s and Meredith’s relationship. Even while they are slammed at work, they still manage to be kind and respectful at home. I enjoy their banter. I like the pacing of the plot and how the author manages to bring disparate cases together with a satisfying ending.
These can be read out of order, although I prefer them in order. I have enjoyed watching the fits and starts of Meredith and Hodges’ relationship. By now it’s like hanging out with old friends who have a much more interesting life than I do. If you like British police procedurals with a bit of wit, give this one a try. Turner also writes the Bearing Witness series, about a group of women who investigate cold case disappearances. It’s equally good.
This is book 12 of the series. It could be read as a stand alone mystery but for full enjoyment you should be familiar with the series to understand the relationships between the characters. This book starts with a murder just hours after the wedding of Louie and Linda. The hotelier who hosted the wedding, a friend of the Chief Superintendent, is found dead in his garden and Meredith is assigned to the case. The man has a rather unsavory past it seems and there is no dearth of suspects. Hodge, meanwhile is investigating a stalker incident with little to go on. Their paths crisscross many times with their usual banter. Being from across the pond, I always have a little trouble getting into the rhythm of a British police procedural but once I do they are excellent. Meredith's sense of humor comes through well and makes him very human. The plot has several twists and keeps you guessing. It also ends with a hint of things to come. Good job Marcia! Thanks for allowing me to read an early copy.
This is another excellent instalment of the Meredith & Hodges series, set right after Christmas and in the days following the long awaited wedding of two of the characters this story kept me hooked right from the start the author has amazing talent of having two stories running along side each other, yet they flow so well it’s a rollercoaster of twists and turns with every turn of the page and when you think you have got to the end nope there’s another loop, until you get to end and wow it’s never the ending you think it is, I’m always surprised at how the different stories always come together. I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite series of books, the author makes you feel like you are right in the heart of the story and the characters start to become your friends, and you can’t help but be pulled into their lives which just shows how good of a job the author has done over the series of building up the characters and really making us readers feel like we really know them in real life, I can’t wait to see what is Instore in the next book.
I was lucky enough to read this new book from Marcia ahead of it's release. I love her Meredith and Hodge novels and this one didn't disappoint. I had a job to put it down as I really needed to find out "who did it" and no, I didn't guess! All the usual lovable characters are there (if you haven't already read books earlier in the series, you could start at the beginning but this would stand alone). The ending is superb, I turned the page, hoping for more but will have to wait for the next installment ... It comes highly recommended from me.
Wow another great story with another surprise ending. Again the author leaves us with another cliff hanger. I'm almost afraid to read book 13. Will will be the end to the series of will we be left waiting for book 14? The suspense!!!! I love the characters is this series I have had so much fun with them. I will have to forge into the next book. I can't leave it here.
Well the title couldn't be more accurate - what deceit and what a web!! Thoroughly enjoyed the latest adventures of irascible Meredith and his team in a difficult case. Can't wait for the next one, especially given the cliff-hanger ending with Meredith in the boss's office. Julian Tremayne, East Yorkshire
I am a all around fan of MK Turner and her books but I am seriously attached to the Meredith and Hodge series. The continuing character development and story thread that grows with each book allow me to immerse myself more with each book. I loved this one bunches and was frustrated at the conclusion as it felt more like a possible cliff hanger than any of previous(only because I wanted to ask more questions and the book was finished...more to come I know). That being said I believe this series is best read in order but could be done as stand alone novels. I am always eager for the next challenge this crew will encounter and the twists in this book were angsty and mysterious in ways that I will not share...no spoilers from me...ever. In addition Lee Beddow once again does an incredible job of giving each character life and personality that remains true from the first time they appear in the series. He is a talented narrator(I think he could make listen to the dictionary on audio book pleasant.) It is worth your time and enjoyment to read Web of Deceit.
Started reading the first 3 in the series and was interested enough to continue. Now I have finished Book 12 having, in a fairly short space of time, read 4-11. I realise I will have to wait for the continuing instalments but highly recommend! Going to try some other of her titles now ….
I read Web of Deceit as an ARC. I love the Meredith and Hodges series and have read most of them. Marcia asked if I would be happy to read this book prior to publication to check the storyline flowed and the plot worked. I must say it's another page turner and I completed in two nights. The characters are all believable and we start with the murder of the wedding host. Due to it being after the wedding there are many suspects who were there during the evening. Many twists and turns and possible outcomes, I think I guessed the culprit at the same time as Patsy but it is quite some time before it is confirmed one way or the other. You will surprised where the investigation takes you! Loved it thanks again Marcia
We meet DCI John Meredith as he catches the case of a hotelier murdered during the wedding of Louie and Linda. The hotelier has a past his family would like to be kept quiet. But has he was nasty person the suspect list is very long. As Meredith works the case, so does Patsy, a PI, who is working a stalker case; find that their cases have cross over. Patsy’s and Meredith’s relationship, is full of respect and humour. Great pacing of the plot and the twists and keeps you guessing. Will keep you on your toes.
Loved the narration of Lee Beddow, perfect for this book.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
You know what it's like; you finish the latest book in a series that you really love and then have a long wait for the next one to come along. Well the ebook version of this one came out a while ago but I prefer audiobooks and listening to them while driving hundreds of miles in the work van makes the day pass much more enjoyably. So I waited patiently (mostly) for the audio version to be released. Was it worth the wait? Oh yes, definitely.
Most of the usual characters make an appearance (just Amanda missing I think) and the team work and play well together with some hilarious banter which had me laughing behind the wheel. The story moves along nicely and as always is well written comes together perfectly.
Lee Beddows narrates once again and nails all the different voices and accents so the characters are easy to distinguish and relate to.
A solid 5 stars for this. Can't wait for the next.
If left wing politics didn’t come into each book. Even talking about right wing extremists when we all know it’s the left that causes trouble , also hating on President Trump, what a shame.
