Nurse Rachel Dennison comes to Texas determined to prepare her new patient for a second round of chemo. What she isn’t counting on is her patient’s twin brother, Storm Masterson. Despite her initial attraction, Storm has two things Rachel can’t abide: a domineering personality and a fiancée. Half Native American, with the ability to have "vision dreams," Storm dreams about Rachel for three nights before her arrival. Both are unprepared for the firestorm of emotions their first encounter ignites. Ultimately, it is Rachel’s past—and abusive, maniacal ex-boyfriend—that threatens to keep them apart…and Storm’s dreams that bring them together again.
Vonnie's book is filled with heat, heart and memorable characters. She talks about how she goes about crafting great dialog here: http://wp.me/p1sptZ-6S
Finished Storm's Interlude. Left 3 stars. It was okay. Would have been better if not as long. Slow in so many parts. It may also be I had a real hard time liking Storm. I mean a really, really difficult time liking Storm. I can not stand cheaters. So have little tolerance in the books I read. He was engaged when the story opened. When he first kissed her. After she found out he still leads her on. Would not leave her alone. I do not like the games he played. Even if unintentional. He should have maned up early on and broke the engagement. Rachel suffered hurt feelings, confusing signals and heart break far too often. The plus side. The supporting characters are so well written you feel as though you know them. Wonderful family. Great ending. I really liked how towards the end Storm finally realizes he had been putting the ex fiances feelings ahead of Rachel's. It was a little too late for me. Sometimes I feel like the lead male gets to many passes on behavior that should not be tolerated. In the end I was happy for Rachel but liked all other characters more then Storm.
If you were driving along, out in the middle of nowhere, and found a hot man walking down the road wearing nothing but some cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, would you stop? If he was as hot as Storm Masterson then I know I would!
First, let me say that Texas is not a state that I've ever really had much of a desire to visit (no offense, Texans). It is hot and dry and has really big spiders. Ms. Davis, however, described Texas, its hill country and beautiful sunsets so vividly that I have now added it to my list of places to go before I die.
Rachel is a funny, vibrant character with a very caring heart who puts others' needs ahead of herself, even when in peril. Storm is a sexy man who loves his family, which just makes him all the sexier. The relationship between all of the characters in this book is so real, I loved it. It was like peeking into a close family and seeing how it all ticks. Even the father, who has passed away, is a real character. Noella, the housekeeper slash cook slash stand-in mother, is absolutely hilarious and a delightful secondary character. The relationship between Storm and Sunny as brother and sister is heartwarming. Storm is the older brother that every girl would want.
The scene where Storm realizes that Rachel is his sister's nurse is laugh out loud funny, and the scene is so vivid that it was like watching a movie. This was probably my favorite scene in the whole book because it is so real.
On a personal note, the whole concept of Rachel's job moved me. With a friend who has terminal cancer, the ideas that Rachel had, while fiction, really got me thinking about my friend and what I could possibly research that might help her in some way. I hope, for the sake of cancer patients out there everywhere, that there is someone like Rachel in reality.
This book has easily found its place on my keeper shelf and has become one of my personal favorites. If I could pull these characters from the pages and make them real I would. This is a family that I would want to be friends with and hang out with on a Friday night at a barbecue. I will revisit them again in the future and I very much look forward to it. I would recommend it to any one of my personal friends and I highly recommend anyone reading this to check it out.
Vonnie Davis is one of my newest favourite authors. I cannot rate this story highly enough. Unbelievable that this is her debut novel!
I fell hard for this book and characters from the moment I read the first paragraph. Who wouldn't when our first introduction to the gorgeous Storm is when he is decidedly underdressed!
From the first page, Ms. Davis' humour and warmth sparkle through and continue throughout the novel. Beware though - although humourous at times, the content is highly emotional in some parts and you might need a tissue or two - just like real life. And I think this is the key to why this book has found itself a permanent home on my Kindle. The world and characters feel real. They react in totally believable ways to some pretty difficult situations and equally so to some beautiful moments. And it doesn't hurt that Storm sounds like my ideal man! : )
I will be recommending Ms. Davis' work to all and I can't WAIT for her next release - it can't come soon enough.
Storm’s Interlude is a delightful read from beginning to end. Somewhat light-hearted for a book about abuse and cancer, there are still poignant moments of sadness as this family pulls together to rally behind one of their own. Still the story is tender and sweet, ranging from laugh-out-loud humor to tears of sadness and finally of hope. Vonnie Davis creates likable, sympathetic characters on every page, from Storm and Rachel to Noella, the housekeeper who looks after everyone, but “says nothing.” Sunny’s journey is touching as she works toward getting stronger for her family, and it’s so, so easy to fall in love with her adorable son, Sawyer. But best of all is Storm himself—handsome, caring, and willing to die for those he loves. Gotta love a man like that!

This is the first book I have read by the author and what a wonderful read it was. Rachel had me gripped from the first chapter. A nurse with a great vision on how to help patients with cancer and who had diabetes herself. One thing she did not count on was Storm her patients twin brother.
Storm doesn’t know how to act when he see Rachel again they both stare at each other in aww. The opening scene is a must read you will be laughing out loud. I don’t want to spoil it by saying more here but this book is a winner. If you want a heart warming romance this is the book for you. You will have a hard time putting this book down.
Oh, girl... If you're looking for a romance series that'll burn your lips hotter than an Indian Summer Texas barbecue, this is it! The half-Comanche Blackhawk twins and their third Musketeer are burning up the Texas summer with their fiery passions, y'all. Never mind that Storm's sister Sunny is battling cancer, her new nurse is confident that Sunny's inner spitfire can pave the way to remission - and the love of a good man, such as the Chief of Police, won't hurt either. As for Sunny's brother Storm, well, he's aptly named and shares their late dad's visionary gift, as well as his passion for the Triple S Ranch and protecting his family, no matter what. As the twins' 30th birthday party approaches, Nurse Rachel's past places the family, including Sunny's 3yo son Sawyer, squarely in the face of danger. Will Rachel or Storm make the ultimate sacrifice? Click it to find out!
I LOVED IT!!! Rachel and Storm were so SWEET together! Although I hated that Storm didn't make it clear to his Ex that it was over and that he LOVED Rachel instead he hurt Rachel just because he didn't want to hurt his Ex... he such an idiot -_- …Rachel is more important to him so he should care for her feelings more plus with his Ex being stubborn he should have to told her he Loved another. I LOVED Storm's family Sunny, Sawyer, Jackson, and Noella. I also LOVED the ending with her giving birth to their children it was a SWEET ending to their SWEET BEAUTIFUL STORY! <3 :D
Another book by Vonnie Davis that I really enjoyed. This book, Storm's Interlude, covers some heavy topics--cancer and abusive relationships, really well. The writing is good. The family centered characters are interesting and likable. I happily recommend this book!
his is full of chills, thrills, romance and drama. It's captivating and engrossing. I love the Native American aspect of the storyline. I can't believe Storm was as stupid as he was. It was a shame it took so long for him to get a brain. But other than that, I love Storm, he's sweet, romantic, amusing and has a huge heart. Rachel has a big heart too, but serious trust issues. Both have fierce tempers. Their relationship is hard to watch sometimes, there are so many mistakes, but the end is totally worth it. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest opinion of it.
Fun, heartwarming, and romantic. I loved this book from the opening scene with a tall, dark, and naked Storm Masterson to Storm hobbling down the hall, dragging one arm, and carrying a bag of urine. (Love that scene, line, and visual!)
Part-Comanche ranch owner Storm Masterson has abandonment issues. Now he's terrified his twin sister is going to die. Her treatments don't seem to be working. The leukemia is winning. So, he hires a full-time nurse to care for his sister and her 3-year old son.
Enter Rachel Dennison. Rachel is an excellent nurse who incorporates holistic medicine into her care routine for cancer patients. When she meets a naked cowboy on the highway, she has no idea he's her new patient's twin brother or that Storm has been dreaming of her for the past three nights. The attraction is instant. But Rachel has a secret. She's running away from an abusive relationship. Her ex-fiance wants her back and he'll stop at nothing to find her.
Can Storm protect her? Will his twin sister Sunny die? The stakes are high, but there are loads of secondary characters in the heartwarming, often humorous tale of love and survival. I loved Storm and his family. I loved Rachel and the ranch hands. These are people you'd want to invite over for a BBQ. Or better yet, you'd want an invitation to the Triple S Ranch so you could get to know the characters better. And Mama Noelle is a trip..."But I say nothing."
Vonnie Davis' words flowed from the page. I love her writing style and the story she penned. I'm definitely adding her other books to my TBR pile.
Vonnie Davis creates a tour de force with Storm's Interlude. The two main characters are both strong-willed, multi-dimensional individuals who have blocked off parts of their hearts due to past hurts. Storm Masterson is the perfect Alpha hero, a no nonsense business man and rancher who has a soul of a warrior and the heart of a Native American prophet. Coupled with his dark eyes, long dark hair and dimpled smile (not to mention his fierce loyalty to his family - namely his ill twin sister Sunny) I dare any reader not to fall in love with him by page two. Sigh. Just sigh. Rachel Dennison is his perfect counter-part, a woman who knows the strength it takes to leave an abusive relationship and has made a vow never to let a man determine her fate. I loved how Ms. Davis made Rachel a strong-willed woman, because quite honestly, Storm wouldn't have settled for less...and the fact that these two characters were so perfectly matched, makes this reader stand up and applaud the depth and layers of development given to both the hero and heroine. Great, great character development in this story. Beautifully done. My advice is to buy a copy and settle in for a read that is compelling, heartfelt, sexy, truthful and very, very satisfying (with a few nail biting scenes added for good measure - no downtime here). Kudos to Ms. Davis and I can't wait to read her next book.
Rachel Dennison has been hired as a personal nurse/wellness coach for cancer patient, Sunny Masterson, whose twin brother, Storm owns the Triple S Ranch. Storm, who is part Native American has been dreaming about Rachel even before they meet on a deserted strip of road where Storm has been stranded sans clothes by best friend, Jackson Cole.
From the moment Storm and Rachel meet the sparks are instantaneous, with an expected tug-of-war developing over time as they try to deny their attraction for one another. Complicating matters, Storm is already engaged to be married and Rachel has some trust issues.
The author made me care about all of the characters, including some well-developed secondary characters. The back-and-forth friction between Storm and Rachel was wonderfully written, and the romantic scenes sizzled. My only objection came in the last quarter of the book with the introduction of Rachel’s abusive ex-boyfriend and a closing that felt flimsy and rushed. By that time I was thoroughly invested in everyone’s life and more than willing to overlook a few plot holes. Over all, I’d definitely recommend STORM’S INTERLUDE as an enjoyable read. I will most certainly be seeking out other books by Ms. Davis.
Readers, prepare yourselves for a breathtaking emotional journey. Storm's Interlude is simply a book you should not miss. The characters are well crafted and I fell in love with Storm, Rachel, Sunny, Sawyer, and so many more. Vonnie Davis' writing is tender, witty and beautiful. I devoured each page, but didn't want the story to end because it's so powerful.
Storm is a great hero. Though he's had a rough past, he is now surrounded by family who loves him. He worries greatly about his ill sister and her son. His fiancée is a spoiled pain in the butt, and her stunts that keep Rachel running drove me nuts. But of course, that's what makes a story do so well; when you can love the great characters and feel anger and frustration towards the not so nice ones.
Simply put, this is a wonderful contemporary romance. I can't wait to read other books by Vonnie Davis. Storm's Interlude is most definitely a keeper, a book I can turn to again and again for an emotional comfort. I highly recommend this story if you enjoy contemporary romances full of heart.
How did I forget to post my review here?? Review from September 2011

This book has a bit of everything ranging from romance to danger. You will feel what the characters are feeling, you may want to smack Storm up side the head now and again, but at the same time you will love him for his fierce love for his family, and those he considers family.
Rachel is a nurse that Storm has hired to be a nurse for his sister who is dying of cancer. Rachel makes a schedule of what she is going to be doing with Sunny (Storms twin sister) She makes sure the dr. is on board with everything she has planned as her action of treatment, to get Sunny strong enough for the next round of Chemo.
Sunny has a little boy who is the cutest thing ever. He is the apple of everyones eyes.
I want more of these characters, as they are so love-able.
Vonnie pulls at your heartstrings with this book!! Must Read
In love with this book! Amazing! Storm was just so... Wow. And Rachel was just darling. Our hero was just a magnificent piece of man, and our heroine was a lovely complex woman who felt all the same things any other woman would have felt. What I enjoy the most was that even the secondary characters were amazingly well written and added a wonderful blend to the story as a whole.
Vonnie Davis wrote such wonderful real characters that once I started this book I finished it in hours! I'm disappointed with myself because I skipped over this book originally when it was on the list of books to review. This author is now on my auto-buy list. Please keep them coming Ms. Davis!

Driving down the road trying to leave bad things behind her Rachel see's something she never thought to see in the light of a full moon. A naked man wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. Storm was mad as hell at his friends for stealing his clothes, while they were going to go skinny dipping to get his mind off his ex fiance .Instead leaving him to walk home naked as the day he was born. A comment about blue eyes , a kiss and their lives will never be the same. An excellent story. Read this story and join Rachel and Storm as they navigate ,jealous and crazy exes, misunderstandings , health issues ,Love and Hope. Another winner from Vonnie Davis. I recommend this story to all.
Nurse Rachel is on her way to her new job when she spies a man, naked but for a pair of cowboy boots and a Stetson covering his "manlihood." He's not a threat, though, but the victim of a prank. In spite of the awkward situation, he gives Rachel a kiss that she'll never forget. How could she, when she soon discovers that this man, Storm, is the brother of the woman she's been hired to care for? This story is highly romantic, featuring a feisty, intelligent heroine and a proud, over-protective hero. They bump heads and match wits, but when a man from Rachel's past puts her in danger, Storm proves he's the kind of man who'll let no one harm "his woman." A very entertaining read!
A book that you find hard put down until the end. Nurse Rachel Dennison heads to Texas to prepare her new patient for a second round of chemo. Rachel is also running away from abusive boyfriend that she is hiding from. She meet her patient's twin brother Storm Blackhawk and he is very HOT!! There are 2 problems with Storm Blackhawk and Rachel Dennison and that is Storm has has an ex- fiancee that won't leave him alone and Rachel has maniac abusive boyfriend who threatens to keep them apart no matter what. To find out what happens you most definitely need to read this book. I truly loved this book!!
Hat's off to Vonnie Davis for tackling some deep subject matter and still pulling of an engaging romance story. I'm not a medical person, but she had just enough detail in there to convince me of the authenticity of the medical references and conditions. All of her characters were thoroughly engaging. Her story was fast paced and kept me turning the pages. Looking forward to Ms. Davis' next book.
Storm's Interlude is brimming with well-rounded, multi-dimensional characters who come together on the Triple S ranch. Even the secondary characters come to life--my personal favorite being Mamma Noella. Rachel is a kind, caring woman with a fascinating job and a painful past. Storm is an engaging hero with a soft side for his twin sister. A beautifully described Texas setting provides the backdrop for this emotional contemporary romance.
What an awesome Debut Novel! From the very first chapter you are thinking "Oh My! What other juicy, hilarious morsels am I gonna taste!" And you are not disappointed! Must Read and you will laugh, cry, get angry, worry and fall in love! A multitude of emotions in one awesome read!
