About the author

Carlos Castaneda was an Latin-American author.
Starting with The Teachings of Don Juan in 1968, Castaneda wrote a series of books that describe his training in shamanism, particularly with a group whose lineage descended from the Toltecs.
The books, narrated in the first person, relate his experiences under the tutelage of a man that Castaneda claimed was a Yaqui "Man of Knowledge" named don Juan Matus. His 12 books have sold more than 28 million copies in 17 languages.
Critics have suggested that they are works of fiction; supporters claim the books are either true or at least valuable works of philosophy.

Hold on to your hats, folks, never has a book (in this case books) inspired such weird dreams. I listened to this audio version of Castaneda’s Teachings of Don Juan and A Separate Reality while lying on my bed and sipping on some wine and it was sublimely enjoyable. Whether or not you believe that the stories are fact or fiction, you will be hard pressed to ever come up with something so wholly bizarre but completely engrossing. You will also be hard pressed not to question the nature of reality. Castaneda was certainly one of the most important spiritual philosophers. He also happens to be a terrific writer. (And as an aside, this audio version is awesome; I loved the narrator's voice.)

In this telling metaphysical work, Carlos Castaneda recounts a series of supernatural/other worldly experiences alternating between the tantalising and the terrifying. Under the tutelage of his Yaqui tutor don juan, and aided and abetted by a combination of hallucinogenic plants lsuch as the Peyote, Jimson weed and the 'humito' mushroom, Castaneda plunges into an unknown world, where shamans transform into wolves and sorcery enables taking the form of a crow. The experiments however are laced with mortal danger as Castaneda himself would be wont to experience. This is a triumph of controversy, a challenge to credibility and a veritable gauntlet for rational Science to pick up!
