No Name: Crimson Bay Cartel: Maldonado

Rate this book
Exploitation, murder, lies…

The Maldonado Cartel is life.

We live and die by a depraved moral code.

To act against my grandfather is a death wish I didn’t have. Until recently. But we all know how feelings will complicate even the easiest of choices.

Turf wars are being waged on Crimson Bay soil, and I find myself caught in the middle. Our enemies are coming for us, which means I have to fight if I want to survive. I have to prove myself if I want to thrive.

Deception is the catalyst that ruins my carefully woven secrets.

I had three rules.

No names.

No drugs.

No family affairs.

I broke them all, and that leaves me only two options.

Cut ties with my heart and live by the Maldonado code…

Or tell the truth and drag these men through hell with me.

A cartel princess should never fall in love.

That was my first mistake.

M.F. Adele has jumped into the contemporary game with The Rusted Heritage series. The first book, No Name, was freaking amazeballs. The story still has the strong and deadly female leads as well as hot as sin and absurdly dangerous guys that I expect from Adele but in a cartel setting and it was viciously glorious.

The mfc is complex AF. The personality she presents to the world is Gemma Smith. The cartel knows her as Jasper Martoldo, the boss's granddaughter, and has a slight part in the business. Only a select few know she's the Ghost, which is the cartel's version of the boogeyman. Jasper is snarky, greedy, smart, and dangerous af, she's an assassin and she has no qualms about killing almost anyone. Jasp is twisted but I like her.

Jasp's taste in guys is just as complex as she is. They all went to private school together but somehow made it back to each other. There's number one boo, Riley Baker, aka Riot. His family is with the Zombies MC so he knows the life and isn't afraid of Jasper's dark side and he most definitely has that touch her and die vibe going on. Jasper really likes living dangerously because she had to go and fall for, Kane Lawson who is an FBI agent. The man is a good guy and he does his job which makes me terrified for when he finds out who she really is. The twins Ezra and Quin Copeland. Ezra is a sexy nerd and the banter between him and Jasp is great. They most definitely have a vibe. As for Quin, he's an idiot. He has this annoying quality when he's high that makes me wanna hit him. Who knows what's gonna happen between him and Jasp. I really don't think he's her type, especially since his drug use goes against her rules. Finally, there's Lorenzo aka Lory. He's been with Jasper since they were kids, growing up in the Cartel together. He's always by her side and recognizes her strength, intelligence, and power. Heck, he wants a committed relationship but she wants her harem and she is determined to bring him to her side. They are so cute together. I should point out that one of my favorite scenes is when all of them end up in a room together. It was priceless. 😂

The plot was great. Two cartels are feuding the Maldonados, and the Estradas. Adele put a little twist on that, the reason behind the feuding is because there's a personal history there. There's not too much information about what happened, I would love for Adele to dive more into that. So there are cartel wars held on multiple fronts (most of them is Jasp) with all the good stuff I find in organized crime like hackers, surveillance, murder, bombs, betrayal, dirty cops, assassination attempts, and more.

The only way to get me to read Contemporary is if it's of the Organized Crime subgenre and it has to be good. M.F. Adele has hit it out of the park with No Name. It has all the deadly and sexy times I like in OC but has all the classic things I come to look for when reading one of Adele's books. No Name's ending left me with a bruised heart but I'm ready for more.

Ready for War

Being raised as yourself but not known to others is how "Gemma" lives everyday. This book is full of goodness, there is something about mafia type books that I always love.

Gemma and her men are preparing for a war that is on the horizon. It's just a matter if everyone will get on board by the time it gets here. Oh man the scene with her father was heartbreaking and it was in code. Got all misty eyed 🥹 You can tell he really cares about her and wants her to succeed.

Can't wait for book 2. Very enjoyable read

This book has me intrigued from the first chapter. I love a strong female lead and she was definitely that. I went into this book blind so I wasn’t compelled sure on the relationship dynamic. It is a RH and what an array of types she has to choose from. Interesting plot. This is one I’ll keep reading.

The author was new to my and her first contemporary book. I enjoyed this and loved how fierce the FMC was.

The story was good and I enjoyed the authors writing.

I would recommend this if you want to read a book with a really strong FMC.

No Name - The Rusted Heritage Book #1 - Review

Couple: Jasper Maldonado (Gemma Smith) with Riley (Riot), Kane and Ezra…possibly Quin and Lorenzo (Lory) but not yet(;

Author: M.F. Adele

Tropes: dark romance, RH, cartel romance, found family, frenemy to lovers

Review: Dark, twisted, family deceit and found family and lovers. This entrance into the Maldonado Crime Family has it all. This story centers around Jasper Maldonado, AKA “the Ghost”, and her journey of love and redemption. I loved her wit and inner steel spine. She is a young woman attempting to overthrow her grandfather and the corrupt leadership he has over her family. In secret she is “the Ghost” and in life she is “Gemma Smith”. I felt like her many personalities were written well and am curious how the meshing of them all will play out in the net book.

This book is filled with spice! Each guy brings something different to the table and I really loved Ezra in this book. I felt like he fit the best with her at this time. I also thought Lorenzo’s character was vital. The belief and loyalty he shows her I think will become important in the final book. Right now I am on the fence with the other three, while Riot has been with her a while I think it’s almost to easy for them and am excited to see how she demands independence. I don’t even have words for Kane.

I am looking forward to see how Quin develops in the next book. I found his character funny and the banter they had was filled with tension. Overall, this book was a great darker read and I can’t wait for the finale!

Rating: 4/5, great first book with a huge cliffhanger!

I devoured this book. It has everything I look for, a strong bad *ss FMC, a harem of men who will protect her even when she doesn’t need it, action and spice. We meet Jasper who is the queen of the cartel, starting a war to keep her city safe. I honestly loved that we started the book with an established harem already even though none of them knew who the others Jasper was seeing were. It was incredibly unique to do it this way from my experience and I think enough background was provided that it didn’t leave too many questions. Would I have enjoyed some flashbacks of them meeting / starting out relationships? Sure. But this really just ties into my one thing with the whole book, that I wish we had just gotten MORE. More descriptions of the guys / Jasper, more spice / more detailed scenes when we did, more of the guys POVs, etc.. While I loved the characters and how they all differed and complimented each other, this was a rather short read where a lot happens in a quick period.

The author does state at the end that they plan on ramping up the spice, which I will totally look forward to. I could see this easily being a three / four book series which would be great. I’d love to see more of the guys perspective when it comes to Jasper and also find out more about them in general. None of them really talk about their feelings or future plans, but with a war on their hands I suppose they haven’t had the time. Either way this was a phenomenal read. There was banter and twists and I loved how harem members were also added through the book. I’m so intrigued by Quin, even if Riley is my favorite right now. Highly recommend this book!!

This book has so much going on in it that I devoured it in one sitting!

MF Adele throws us straight into the cartel world ran by the Maldonado's and the Estrada's.

Jasper is our FMC, and she is one fierce badass. Jasper is an enforcer of sorts for the Maldonado cartel, which is run by her grandfather. There is a lot going on behind the scenes, and along with her fiance Lorenzo, Jasper is trying to clean it up.

Although engaged to Lory, this was an arranged marriage, and Jasper has a few other guys she juggles depending on the day of the week. They all come with different issues and complications of their own, but ultimately, they all fit into the crazy life Jasper lives. I feel we need to know so much more about Riot, Kane, Enzo, and Quin, and there are definitely stories to be told from when they all attended school together.

Like I said this story has so much going on that at times I found myself having to re-read parts to figure out who and what was going on but it adds to the thickening plot of this story and shows just how much Jasper has going on at any one time.

Emotions are all over the place reading this, and there are some really heartbreaking moments as well as laugh out loud ones.
Overall, I really did enjoy reading this book, and I am looking forward to book two, where I am hoping we get some clarity and answers, especially with the way it ended.

No Name: Crimson Bay Cartel: Maldonado, the first book in the Rusted Heritage series by M.F. Adele was absolutely riveting!

Our heroine Jasper/Gemma grew up as the only daughter to f the Maldonado cartel and was trained at an early age to be so much more—even if it was kept a secret. Now she finds herself battling it out in the middle of a war between the cartels with her vowing to be the one true survivor/successor—as long as she plays the long run and everything goes smoothly. Now if only she can keep the men in her life and get them all on the same page—even with some of them being on different sides of the law.

I absolutely adore Jasper/Gemma and all her strength, wisdom and ability to kick some serious butt all while leading her men on quite the merry chase. I freaking love stories with women leading the pack and this one is definitely that! And what can I say? Riley, Kane, Lory and Ezra are just what a KA cartel woman needs to keep her happy and fulfilled every day of the week. ;)

Overall if you’re a fan of cartels, hot sexy alpha men, a fierce heroine and tons of secrets, suspense and twisted and turns then this is the one for you. Just be prepared for quite the emotional, suspense filled ride! I can’t wait for the second book and to see what’s coming their way next!

Gotta love a good book where the female is always underestimated. Jasper lives a double life in a way, wearing several masks where only a select few know the true person underneath. I have to say that it was very entertaining to see how she acted around each of her men based on what they knew about her and to see how the secrets all unfolded for each of them--even more so since they all knew her from a young age, so seeing a different side to her than they did before really threw some for a loop.

I really enjoyed the mafia aspects of this story as well as the two opposing groups of people. I can't wait to learn more about the true reasoning of the hatred between them both after learning a few select details in this book. It doesn't automatically scream "oh that's why!" so I really hope Adele has Jasper dig deep down to figure out why the fallout happened. There's already so much going on without that information and I'm wondering if certain people aren't manipulating things to keep the war between the two families going.

After the ending we got in this book, I am so looking forward to the next book so see what happens with Jasper and one of her men. Is forgiveness in the cards?

Well, this is certainly one way to start a series!

Being a RH mafia fan with very limited triggers I went in to this book blind and would highly recommend that you also do so if you are like me.

I am not usually one to enjoy a strong female-led redemption plot as I get easily frustrated with authors making the FMC completely independent to the point of it being unrealistic but this is not a trap that MF fell in to. I loved Jasper and found myself wanting to be her throughout her journey. Her steely resolve and determination to overthrow her grandfather was engaging to read and had me rooting for her from the end of my seat. I also loved that all of her guys brought something different to the table and were all swoon-worthy in their own right. As should be the case with a series I am not totally sold on all of the guys yet, despite their attraction, and am keen t see how their individuals characters and relationships develop as we progress.

I did not expect a cliffhanger of epic proportions but hopefully book 2 will be out soon. Thankfully, I have noticed the author also writes paranormal books so I can dive in to these while I wait!

I absolutely loved this book! I could read it again and again, and never get sick of it. (I think) There is just so much to love about this first in the series. From the plot and characters to the steam and romance, I thought this book was amazing. I have loved almost all of MF Adele’s books, and I think that is because of the powerful and bad**s female leads. Jasper is a strong, semi-controlled queen. I love how she effortlessly takes control of a room, and how there is no question that she is the one in charge. I also loved seeing the start of her relationship with the guys, and cannot wait to read more about them. Can she release the next book any faster? (Fingers Crossed)

The idea of a reverse harem dark romance/mafia/cartel isn’t new. But, I love the way that MF creates bits and pieces that I haven't seen before. The world of the Crimson Bay Cartel that she has created is very intricate and makes me want novellas for many of the characters. I am happy that she has started this series, and while I adore her fantasy books, am excited to see more of this.

Girls Rule the World

A great start to a new series. Jasper aka "Ghost" is what nightmares are made of. A trained Hitman of the Maldonado Cartel and a WOMAN!!!

This book was 🔥. Oftentimes, Mafia/Cartel romances center around Cold, Ruthless men who take what they want without hesitation. To read a story of a woman calling the shots, making the power plays and dropping bodies left and right was EVERYTHING!!!

Jasper was trained at the young age of 13 and has embraced the Cartel lifestyle without regret. After all she is a Maldonado through and through.

As if fighting in the middle of a cartel war isn't chaotic enough; Jasper has to juggle her men but fails at keeping her feelings at bay. Riley, Kane, Lory and Ezra are kept on rotation but each man wants more than Jasper is willing to commit to but neither man is willing to give her up.

Jasper is on a mission to take out anyone standing in her way. She will own the city even if it means destroying everything and everyone she loves. Lies, Betrayal and Hurt leaves Jasper with some painful decisions to make.

This story was SO good and had so much going on, don’t blink cause you’ll miss it. Jasper is an amazing FMC, I liked her character a lot and honestly can’t wait to see more of her in the next books. She is an independent, sassy, take care of her own *ish* kind of woman, and I am here for it. It honestly fits perfectly within the world that was built, when dealing with the cartel one must be ruthless, cunning, and multi talented. Oh I forgot to mention, she’s a trained “hit man”, so she is a bad-ss all around.

Jasper has a mission, and has rules she lives by, this is all to say, some rules get broken. But I love that she was calling the shots, even while in the middle of a cartel war she is ready to do what is needed. Her guys definitely add to the story, and I honestly can’t wait to learn more about them and see what is next in their story with the FMC. There’s betrayal, lies and so much more, leaving Jasper with difficult decisions to make. The next book will keep us on our toes just as much I’m sure!

This is the first book in a fantastic new RH, mafia romance series, The Rusted Heritage. It is quite a big departure from this Author’s usual writing, but let me tell you, she freaking rocked it!

This book is incredible! I absolutely loved everything about it. The writing, flow, storyline, storytelling, characters, character development, relationship development and progression, and world building are all terrific. I honestly could not get enough of this story and it’s characters, and seriously did not want it to end. It’s a page turner for sure.

Jasper is a strong, independent, kick a$$ FMC, with a delicately strewn web of lies that holds her life together. But when war comes knocking down her door, and those threads start to break down, what will she do? Will she let go of everyone she loves? Or will she risk those same loves by revealing her truths?

I would 100% highly recommend this book and simply cannot wait to see what happens next!

Another amazing start to a new series! I am a lover of the mafia trope and this one didn't disappoint. The plot keeps you engrossed throughout it all and is hard to put down. You do have to keep track of people and the underline plots but it is worth the read. The plot of the war with another cartel, inner fighting within the cartel of focus and trying to balance two lives keeps you intrigued throughout.

We get to meet Jasper/Gemma whose leading a double life between the men in her life and her cartel duties. She is a strong fmc who doesn't take anything from nobody, can take care of herself but acknowledges her men as her weakness. Her current men are Riley (Riot), Erza and Kane with Lorenzo fighting against it and possibly Quin. I'm torn between Lorenzo and Erza for my current fav but this is what we like about #whychoose. Excited to see what is in store for Jasper and her men in the next book!

No Name

Jasper (AKA Ghost) is a trained assassin for her family and has lived the cartel life with no regrets. She knows family is the most important, but what happens when she is forced to make a decision that would go against her family? The men in her life want more from her, and she's not sure if she's willing to give that to them just yet. Jasper has a lot of choices to make, and some could find her dead.

I was absolutely thrilled that we finally have a good mafia book where the main hitman for the family was a woman. A woman who is RESPECTED by her family and the men in her life. I loved that the most with this book. Jasper was a bad@$$ lead and is what every mafia person (male or female) should aspire to be like.

I loved how she had multiple men on a rotation and didn't really have exclusivity with any of them. It was a nice change of pace to have the female unattached and the men pining for more.

We jump right into the fire with No Name. Jasper is Queen Bee and a bad a$$. She’s been trained from a young age and fully embraces the Cartel lifestyle. With the intent of eradicating everyone who stands in her way, Jasper has to wade through the lies and deceit to make it to the top.

Not to mention keeping her identity under wraps. The author does an amazing job writing her different identities and I can’t wait to see how they end up meshing together.

I like this unique take on an established harem, although the guys don’t know of each other yet. It’s interesting to see the different relationships and which hat Jasper is wearing. Plus the spice! Each man brings something different and it definitely ramps up the heat.

Overall a great read and I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.

A killer story

This is a killer story, both figuratively and literally. 😜 Jasper is an awesome character, I love every bit of her, even her darkest, most twisted parts. And there's a lot of them! 😂
I really enjoyed that she had established relationships with most of her harem going straight into the book, bought an entire new angle to RH that I hadn't read elsewhere before.
The plot is a bit slow at first, as first books in series tend to be, but picks up about half way through. It's got plenty of action, violence, intrigue, backstory and steam. Great world building and well developed characters.
I also really enjoyed the way that this book linked with Sacred Truths, which I read just before this and adored. It's a shared world.
Can't wait to find out what happens next! 😍

5⭐ 3🌶️

I was intrigued by Jasper when she appeared in Sacred Truths by NV Roez and let me just say, M.F. Adele did not disappoint.

Jasper is such a bad*ss and made me laugh so much (probably inappropriately). Her daily rotation and shoot first, ask questions later attitude is absolute perfection. She is a trained hit man, and has 3 "faces" she wears depending on the situation. She is tired of being someone she isn't but first she must take out her enemies and come clean to her 'not relationships'.

No Name is action packed and has many key players involved. I love the different backgrounds all of the guys have and I am excited to see who ends up in the harem and what trouble they get into in the next book.

If you enjoy trigger happy FMCs, protective alpha guys, and family drama, this book will be a good fit for you.

I loved the concept of this book. Jasper is the MFC and she is one tough, amazing, bada$$ assassin and next head of the cartel. There’s not many books like this at all. I also don’t think I’ve laughed so hard while reading a mafia style book during scenes between love interests, but the way Jasper (who also goes by Gemma) and one of her love interests interact, is so hilarious, it’s amazing. The dynamic between each of the MMC and the MFC is well written and I liked how they each contributed something different that she needed but as a whole still worked well together. The only downside, I need more, I’m hoping there are more books with them because I enjoyed reading this so much and don’t want it to be over!!

Ghost

MF Adele’s first book in her series The Rusted Heritage grabbed my attention right from the start and was so riveting it wouldn’t let go until the last page. This is an awesome author! It’s the first book I’ve ever read by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. Jasper, the main character, has been trained from an early age to eliminate the enemy as part of her family cartel and she’s become a dead eye expert. This book is full of exciting adventure, mystery, suspense and steamy situations. I can’t wait to see what this author has planned next. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!

keep going

Honestly, I struggled while the stories/guys were separated. But as I went on reading I am so pleased I stuck with it. Mafia romance is very new to me so others may get into it quicker, but it did not deflect from how brilliantly written the story is. I am going to need to read book 2 now because I have just GOT to know what happens next. I am thirsty for the war Jasper is leading us into. Thoroughly recommend - women trying to make it to the top will understand and recognise Jasper’s struggles throughout - it is more than just a mafia romance book it is a story about a woman trying to lead in a male dominated society and most of us can relate to that.

Wow this is amazing read. This is a story that is a woman that is independent and wants to get her city back. Gem is the name she goes by to hide her true identity. Gem was trained at 12 to be a hit person. Gem has her men on different days of the week and works with 2 that know her identity. One is a FBI 1 MC and 1 she is to marry but what’s her to give up her other loves. This is a spicy action mafia read that is a fast pace read that has me hooked from the very first page. I can’t wait for the next book to read as hopeful full of excitement.

I really enjoyed this intro to Jasper and her guys. I always love a bo$$@$$ FMC, especially one who is a professional un@liver. But in the world of the cartels? She has to keep that identity under wraps.
And the guys… Hot d@mn. I love how she has collected them and how much they adore her. I absolutely loved how there were lol moments in the midst of drama, bloodshed, and of course spicy time.
I can’t wait to see the next steps Jasper takes, how the guys deal with what they learn, and hopefully the WhyChoose situation of Jasper’s dreams.

Jasper was awesome! There was a lot going on, and her life seemed a little chaotic, no matter how much she tried to give it some order with her days of the week guys, but it was an intriguing read and I enjoyed it immensely.

The men were a lot of fun, too! They all brought something different to the table. Definitely want to know more about them and their pasts with Jasper.

I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I was disappointed when this book ended. I hadn't read anything from this author before this, but I'm so glad I have now. A great read!

I so wanted to give this book more than 5 Stars because it was just that good! There's so many twisted layers to this book it definitely keeps you on your toes and at the heart of it is - Jasper (Gemma FMC). She has so many hats that she's wearing. 3 separate alias, being part of the Maldonado cartel and juggling all her days of the week guys (lol). All of which bring their own brand of complications but my word are they hot in this book. This was one hell of a read and i enjoyed reading it so much. I cant tell you how much im looking forward to book 2

Yes to this book!!!!
I love how the author creates a completely different world which is still somewhat connected to her other series.
I love the complexity of the FMC and how strong she is. Jasper will take no prisoners! The usual MF Adele humour is still present and I hope it never leaves. Love the complexity of the story and the characters as well as the the MC and cartel aspect of it. And how the guys are so protective but Jasper still stands on her feet. Can't wait for more

I really didn’t know what to expect. I’ve read MF’s pnr Sloane King series so I was really excited for this contemporary story! I wasn’t expecting to cry as much as I did! But the story and the angst between Jasper and her guys is why this is a five star for me. Each relationship is so different and just like the guys themselves! At the end of of the book I love Riot, Lorry and Ezra! Kane is on my sh!t list right now. Quin I just don’t know what to do with him!! Can’t wait for the next story. Plus loving the world crossovers with NV Roez and TL Hodel!!!

If this is the author's first contemporary book, why did you wait so long? I love the story and characters. I enjoy the way everything unfolds. I would have given 5 stars but it got confusing sometimes with all the different characters including Jasper/Gemma/Ghost being different but the same person. Hopefully the next book won't have that due to her coming clean with everyone important to her. I can't wait.
