When Sela's sister is found dead in her upscale San Francisco apartment, everyone is shocked at the suicide note found at the scene. Sela hires a private investigator, and they quickly find out it was no suicide. In fact, Sela's fiancé of two years could be involved in the murder. As the investigation widens, Sela realizes she is living a nightmare. She is forced to marry Matt, even though she doesn't love him, and she knows he is having an affair. As greed takes over, people close to Sela spin out of control, and nothing could prepare her for what she is about to find out.
This was probably the worst book I’ve read in 2024 or maybe even my whole life?? There were SO MANY grammatical errors (i.e., quotation marks in the wrong places, missing quotation marks, punctuation just all over the place). Not only that, it felt very poorly written overall. How this book doesn’t have any one-star reviews before this one is BEYOND me. I wish I could get the hours I spent on this book back. Am I a hater? Probably.
Beseeched has a good plot and some twists and turns that were not expected. I think overall it was a good read, I think if there was some more character development I would have enjoyed it more. At times I was a little confused reading it and had to re-read it, but it all came together.
This book is like Gone Girl with a Christian flair. It had me sucked in until the very end. I spent so much of this book feeling shock but found comfort and relief in such a wholesome ending.

This book was so good. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what would happen next. I loved how the chapters changed perspective right in the middle of the chapter. I was also really invested in all of the characters and there was a few times that I wanted to chuck the book across the room. The ending was sooooooooooooo good. I loved this book so much and I really hope that there is a sequel sometime in the future.
This book was not what I expected. It had a lot of twists and turns and definitely kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It was fully of some really messed up characters that somehow managed to continue to get worse and worse as time went on. It also had sweet, lovely moments which was nice and needed with a book like this.
I really did enjoy the book, but the writing style was… interesting. It continuously went in and out of different people’s perspectives in a somewhat confusing way. I also didn’t love the religious aspects that were brought into it, but I know many will.
Overall, it was a good book that I enjoyed and would recommend.
I can’t say thank you enough to those of you that are reading and posting reviews. My heart is so full knowing that you are enjoying my book and that you are looking forward to more of my work. I’m sending so much love to you now. ❤️ I won’t let you down with the sequel “Beguiled”.
I hadn't read in years until I got my hands on this one. It's a page turner for sure. I read this book in 4 days. I highly recommend this one for sure.
This book was a DOOZY to say the least! For me it was a little hard to get into the first few chapters, just trying to figure out the flow. But man, once it got going IT GOT GOING.
My only gripe was there wasn’t really a distinction between the switched POV’s, but that’s just a personal preference because I get confused easily 😂 but it definitely keeps you on your toes and keeps you guessing.
I loved that from the beginning you kind of sort of knew who done it, but the plot just kept on developing.
There was a part that had me RAGING and thinking GIRL DONT DO IT! IYKYK.
⚠️spoilers ahead⚠️
Part of me feels bad for Beth, a small part. Beth is written SO well as an antagonist, she is selfish, manipulative, she only cares about herself and doesn’t care who she hurts in the end. Including Matt. Does she deserve everything she experienced with Gerardo? No. Did she bring it upon herself? You be the judge of that. I’m glad the author didn’t go into detail about Beth’s ordeal but leaves it open for interpretation.
Matt… ugh. Matt’s rough upbringing doesn’t justify everything he put Sela through. Is he as bad as Beth? I don’t think so. I truly want to believe that SOME part of him has remorse with his part in the plan of taking out Sela’s family one by one, but at the same time it was his plan from the get go. The gaslighting, the greed, it made it so easy to dislike him.
I’m glad Jake and Sela found their happy within each other despite the circumstances that brought them together.
Sela has an absolute heart of gold and her generosity is truly something to be admired.
Alright so let me start off by saying that I won this book through a GoodReads giveaway so I am very appreciative of getting a free copy! Thank you to Tecia McLaughlin for signing this copy and thank you for your service.. from one female Army Veteran to another!
My review will be brief but detailed. The initial plot was intriguing, however there were several different plot lines throughout the book that confused me and just didn’t land well in my opinion. There were several characters in the book that also fell a little flat for me, their placement in the book seemed random without much explanation. (The friend Sela meets at the mall and gives her $$). Some of the scenes that I felt played a huge part in the story line felt rushed, as if we were just jumping ahead to get to the ending. (The first one was the incident that lands Sela in a coma; second one was Sela and Matt getting ‘married’ in two days versus a few weeks) Again, I did enjoy the initial plot, I just think some things were a little jumbled/rushed along the way. As this was the authors first book, I’m excited to read what else she has written or plans to write because thrillers like these are exactly why I love reading!

When Sela’s sister, suddenly dies of what California authorities rule a suicide, Sela is certain the death is attributable to murder. She is already deeply grieving the recent reportedly-accidental death of her father, and she is questioning her decision to marry her long-time fiancée, Matt. Matt, on the other hand, struggles to convince Sela to accept the suicide ruling and to commit to their plans to marry immediately. In her debut mystery novel, Beseeched, author Tecia McLaughlin sends billionaire Sela to California with Ted, a private detective and old family friend, to unravel the facts surrounding her sister’s death. But this novel is not a simple whodunit. There are layers upon layers of deceit and false assumptions, offensive and defensive strategies among the characters, shady dealings and trickery, karma and irony, romance and murderous intent. Ultimately, it is a classic good versus evil plot, with the reader hoping good has the strength, intelligence and good fortune to triumph in the end. There are some easily-correctable typos in this book, but the characters are deeply drawn and the plot is layered and complex. A fun read.
I won this on a GoodReads givaway and I'm happy i did. It was an interesting and fun. Many twist and turns. There was many different POVS to read from. I love a good mystery.
