This series keeps on getting better and better with each installation.
In this book, Ryley St. James is looking for her missing friend, Maggie and her sister, Rose, while taking care of Maggie's daughter, Emily Jane. The little girl is being haunted by an especially mean ghost that lives in her closet and follows her to Ryley's farm. Ryley is doing everything she can to get rid of this thing and goes to extremes to get the job done. It is an uphill battle and I wasn't sure she was going to win.
This book fired on all cylinders. The characters are wonderful, although I do wish we'd had some better descriptions of all of them. They work and play together well. I love the romance between Ryley and Adler. The story was compelling, intriguing, and even tense at times. The suspense kept me turning the pages.
One thing I like about Ms. Allenton's books is that they're unpredictable. I've read 41 books by her and love her story-telling abilities and the paranormal flair to them. Her characters are well-developed and it's easy to care about them and feel what they feel, but at the same time, you never know what's going to happen to any of them. They could be dashed without a moment's notice. That goes for all the books I've read and is not exclusive to just this book.
Truly a great, quick read.
*This is part of a series and I do recommend reading the books in order just so you can see how Ryley St. James evolves with each story. She's making changes, has her own issues to deal with, and has a life of being a psychic and more. You won't be hopelessly lost if you don't read the other books, but it would be a much more satisfying story if you do.
