Raised in a cult where opinions and freedom in women were not tolerated, Mara Greene narrowly escaped a life as a child bride—one where she would’ve been shared and owned by all the men in the compound.
Her testimony helped put the cult leader in prison, but she’s never truly gotten past the horrors inflicted on her. Her conditioning to keep silent persists even now—despite having found a safe haven at the Resting Warrior Ranch.
Here she’s safe, but still always alone and trapped in her silence.
Liam Anderson is always the first team member to crack a smile or a joke. No one—not even his Navy SEAL brothers—know about his painful past or the truth he hides behind his charming mask.
He’s captivated by fragile Mara and wants to help her heal. Watching her find her voice is the most amazing thing he’s ever known. And it doesn’t take long to realize she’s healing him just as much.
When Mara’s past resurfaces, Liam won’t let her face it alone. He’ll be her personal protector no matter what it cost.
Best book in the series as far as I’m concerned. Heartbreaking and beautiful. Raised in a cult she was taught to be silent.
Mara has been through so much. Resting Warrior Ranch has made her feel safe mostly but she still has things that trigger her panic attacks.
She was stunning, and whenever she chose to speak, my whole being perked up and listened.
Liam has been patient and respectful of her healing. There attraction is mutual. There story has been a super slow burn. This man has the patience of a saint.
What I saw in her eyes now was so much more than fear. It was fear, but also vulnerability. With relief, I realized she hadn’t wanted me to walk away any more than I wanted to.
Love this story so much. This author certainly knows how to drag out all the feels.
Mara was always in the background in the previous books. She works in the shadows at the ranch, doing the cleaning and such. Mara is a very quiet person, and remains a mystery to everyone. She has however caught the eye of Liam. He has watched Mara from afar, not knowing how to let her know that he would like to get to know her better. A panick attack at a wedding gives him the opportunity to comfort her and get closer to her. Mara is also very attracted to Liam, he is the only one with whom she feels safe, she cannot explain why. So when her past comes knocking at the door, she turns to Liam, and he will stop at nothing to protect her and help her come out of her shell.
I have been intrigued by Mara since we first met her and I enjoyed her book a lot. Liam and her were a great match, and I loved seeing her come over her fear of speaking out and opening herself to the others at the Ranch. I only wish we would have known more about Liam's past.
As always with this series there a good balance of romance and action. A solid 4 stars.
~Fifteen year old Mara was intended to be the next child bride, shared and owned by all the men in the compound. Her testimony helped put away the cult leader and she’s found freedom. Now all she needs to do is find her voice. Liam has been enamored with Mara since she arrived. He wanted to help her heal but never thought she could be helping him heal.~
Watching Mara grow was amazing. Liam is so sweet and supportive, I’m swooning. They were absolutely adorable.
It was hard not to feel for Mara in this one. At the start of the book she seemed so fragile, but as things continued she got strong, some with moves she made on her own, but many after she knew she had Liam at her back. The two of them were cute together. Liam seemed to really get Mara and knew he needed to go slow with her.
It was fun to see the rest of the Resting Warrior bunch realize these two were a couple. Liam got warnings from the men, while the women wanted Mara to spill all the tea. Sounds about right for this group! lol
I loved how this one ended, Mara defeated her past and now can live free and happy with Liam.
A solid entry into the series. It only left me wanting a little bit more in the finale but I love Mara and Liam and think their story is beautiful. I loved the way they communicated and how patient Liam was throughout. I loved Mara and her quiet strength as well!
I think this was my favorite in the series.... possibly because it was the softest, despite still having so many darker themes and of course an entire suspense plot. I really loved Mara and Liam was a sweetheart and their romance was very sweet.
Montana Silence is the 7th book in the authors’ Resting Warriors Ranch Series. The silence is a reference to the story’s female protagonist Mara Greene who rarely speaks. Mara rarely speaks because she was raised in a misogynistic cult named “The Family” where the girls and women were expected to speak only when spoken too and were beaten for not following the orders of their leader. When Mara was 15 years old she was designated one of the Honor Brides which meant she was expected to marry the cult’s leader and then he was free to pass her around to the other male members of the cult for their own sexual gratification. Fortunately for Mara the cult was raided by the FBI before she could be forced into a child marriage. She was a key witness in getting the leader a lengthy prison sentence. But years later the emotional scars, the trauma of what Mara endured as a child remain with her. For the past four years she’s been working at Resting Warrior Ranch doing manual labor like cleaning and gardening and also seeing Dr. Rayne for therapy. But she still struggles to use her voice and only recently has begun to speak in more than a few word sentences if at all. Liam Andersen the youngest of the former Navy SEALS that helped open Resting Warrior Ranch has been attracted to Mara for the past couple of years. But until recently he’s been afraid to approach her for anything more than brief casual conversations. When Mara experiences an anxiety attack at one of the team’s weddings Liam comforts her by holding her to help ground her. This breaks the ice and they begin to date. No sooner do Liam and Mara begin dating than she receives a package with the wedding veil she was supposed to wear at her wedding as an honor bride. Then she receives news that the cult leader is up for parole thanks to good behavior. Her lawyer wants her to fly to Phoenix and appear at the parole hearing to help make sure the man isn’t given early parole. The idea of facing him frightens Mara so much she can barely breath. Only Liam keeps Mara from spiraling back into herself with flashbacks of her life with the cult. It becomes clear that the cult has Mara in their sights. They say “once a member of The Family, always a member of the Family.” Liam and the rest of the Resting Warriors do their best to protect Mara but as with all the other stories in this series the psychopath leading the cult managers to kidnap Mara. Now it’s up to Liam and the other Resting Warriors to come to her rescue and save her before she can be spirited away to the cult’s new out of country secret location. I’ve enjoyed this book and the earlier books in this series even though they all follow pretty much the same cookie cutter formula. One of the Resting Warriors falls in love with a beautiful woman whose life is in danger from a psychopath. Early on for a variety of reasons usually tied to their PTSD they attempt to resist falling in love with the woman they are driven to protect. Eventually they begin a romantic relationship, the woman is taken and it takes her courage and ingenuity combined with the skills and determination of the male protagonist and his team of ex-SEALS to rescue her. Even though the plots are all very similar there’s enough difference in the plots and the personalities of the protagonists to keep it interesting. I thought Mara and Liam were great characters. They helped each other deal with their different emotional issues. Their sexual chemistry was off the charts. There were just a couple parts of this story that bothered me which I will put in a Spoiler Alert below.
I've liked most of the other books in the Resting warrior Ranch series, but MONTANA SILENCE didn't quite work for me.
First, it's not a great stand-alone. Liam's defining personality trait is supposed to be his jokesy and light vibe, but this book has none of that. You would have to read the previous books to get any kind of glimpse of this side of him, but it's his WHOLE CHARACTER. A real miss in that way.
Mara is sweet, but not much else. I never felt like I got to know her outside of her trauma.
I do love a romantic suspense in which the male lead isn't a controlling Alpha-hole. Liam was a sensitive, but strong lead and I loved that about MONTANA SILENCE.
I started reading this book at about 9 pm last night and was so engrossed in the story I didn't put it down until I turned the last page at 2 am. Mara has intrigued me since the first book, and I've eagerly awaited her story. I've also been waiting for Liam's tale, the last of the seven founders of the Resting Warrior Ranch.
It was obvious that something in Mara's past had turned her into an almost ghost-like figure. She is so quiet and self-effacing that she frequently blends into the background. Throughout the previous six books, she has somewhat emerged from her shell. However, she's been experiencing more flashbacks to her childhood as a cult member. I ached for her as I read about her abuse and her narrow escape from becoming a child bride. I loved the inner strength that helped her provide the testimony that put the leader in prison. I'm not sure how she came to Resting Warrior Ranch, but it has been a safe haven for her. She has become part of the RWR family even though she doesn't realize what that means.
Quiet, beautiful Mara captivated Liam from the moment she arrived at the ranch and was the first to step up if she needed something. He understands her skittishness even if he doesn't know what caused it and is careful to maintain his distance. I've enjoyed watching his feelings for her grow during the previous books as he wishes for the chance to tell her how he feels. Liam is there for her when he witnesses one of her flashback/panic attacks. I loved his gentleness as he helped her through it. I could almost feel his hug as he gave her the comfort she needed. I loved watching him take a chance and ask her to dance and his relief and happiness when she said yes. He has no idea she is just as attracted to him but doesn't know how to clue him in.
Mara's life is about to get complicated as her past becomes part of her present. When an item from that past is delivered to her at the ranch, all of the old fears come rushing to the surface. Rather than facing them alone, Mara discovers she has all the support she can want. Liam steps up as her protector. I loved the scene where he brought her to his home, where only one other person had ever been inside. Liam's nervousness and vulnerability were endearing as he opened his home and his heart to her. I loved their deep connection, ability to communicate without words and the growing love that makes it all possible.
The story's suspense kept me as glued to the pages as the romance. It revolves around the imprisoned cult leader and whether he should be paroled. Is he the one sending the creepy packages to Mara, or is someone else involved? I ached for Mara as she contemplated testifying before the parole board. I loved her determination to prevent what happened to her from happening to others. I felt her fear as she faced him and cried at its effect on her. But that isn't the end, and as Mara gathers her courage for a second round, an unexpected twist puts her in extreme danger. I loved watching the men of the RWR band together to pull off another incredible rescue. Even better, I loved that Mara found her voice, inner strength, and courage to fight for herself. The final confrontation was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat until it was over.
As always, I love the close relationships among the characters of this series. In this book, it was great to see Mara become closer to the other women of the RWR. I especially enjoyed the scenes with her and Lena at the coffee shop and the fun teasing as her relationship with Liam became known. The men have been through so much together that they rarely have to speak of their feelings to know that their comrades have their backs. In previous books, Liam was quick to tease the others about their burgeoning relationships, and it was fun to see him realize that he would now be on the receiving end.
I thought this might be the end of the series now that all seven have found love, but another book that stars the psychiatrist Rayne Westerfield is coming. I love how she has helped our warriors and their ladies, and I'm excited to read her story.
Montana Silence is the seventh book in the Resting Warrior Ranch series by Josie Jade. It is the protector romantic suspense that brings Mara Greene and Liam Anderson together. It is considered a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the other books in the series before this one so you can get familiar with the characters and all their stories.
There are some trigger warnings that I believe you should be made aware of and all of them aren’t between the main characters. In this book, domestic and psychological abuse, grooming, non-con, kidnapping, abandonment, panic attacks, and violence are mentioned in this book. There are few others, but I don’t want to give too much away in this review.
Mara Greene and Liam Anderson have been watching each other from afar for almost as long as Mara started working on the ranch three years ago. These two couldn’t be more different, but like that saying says, opposites attract, and these two balance each other out. Liam and Mara formed this bond, intimately, physically but mentally as well. They both have suffered, survived, and wished for tomorrow. But they also chose each other and what a beautiful thing that is. It’s like the two of them subconsciously know what and how each other feel without having to say it out loud. When Mara get triggered and gets so far inside her head, Liam was there to help bring her back and like he said in the book, he will always bring her back. It’s because of their tragic and troubled pasts, they are able to help each other in their times of need and are able to help heal and put pieces back together for each other. With both of them feeling broken and unworthy separately, they both realize that they aren’t broken together. They are one and worthy of the happiness and love they always wanted and dreamed about. Together, they can take on the world and be free together.
Mara Greene’s life hasn’t been easy and when her family moved to the compound, life got even more complicated and harder, much harder. Like having all her freedoms taken away especially the freedom of speech. When the leader tells her of the “honor” she would be receiving, she knew life was truly over for her and as desperate as she wants out of this life, she has no choice, but to obey and comply. Luckily, she never to find out what that “honor” entails, but the fear of it along with the conditioning and grooming that was so harshly disciplined in her remained leaving her broken and shattered. With the help of Dr. Rayne on the ranch, she has slowly been able to put herself together piece by piece and be able to live within the safety of the ranch and the small town of Garnet Bend. When her past shows up to haunt her, Mara is forced to tell the horrible details of her past in the event that trouble comes back to the ranch. When she faces danger and her demons in the face, she is forced to decide what to do next. Will she comply and go back to the h3ll she escaped from all those years ago or will she be strong and fight back to be with those she loves and for the future she deserves?
Liam Anderson’s life hasn’t been easy, but he knew from a young age what he wanted to be when he grew up and worked hard to achieve the things his life was lacking. But along the way of having everything he had ever wanted, he got abandoned by the one person he thought he could always rely on. And ever since then, he has fiercely protected all that he holds near and dear to his heart. From time to time, the chatter in his head rings through and makes him second guess himself and his decisions. Life has been good and things with her have been even better despite the setbacks. But when danger threatens his future with the one that he holds dear and close to his heart, he vows to always be by her side and that she will never be alone. As much as he wanted to always be there for her, the one time he wasn’t, she was taken away from him? Will he let his dark thoughts get the best of him or will he push them aside and fight for the one that truly knows and has his heart?
Book by book, I have loved watching the men of the Resting Warrior Ranch find love. I have been waiting for Mara’s story since book one, Montana Sanctuary, and I am so glad that she and Liam have gotten the love and future they both deserve. Reading this book was tough and broke my heart, but to see how both of these beautiful broken souls have endured and pressed on when all hope was lost. It made the ending so much sweeter and more deserved. I just loved how it ended, seeing how the RWR men and women have ended up. I am super stoked about Rayne’s book and can’t wait to read more about it.
I am a huge fan of Josie Jade’s and Janie Crouch’s and I highly recommend this series and both author’s backlists.
As I said in my previous review, this is the last book that I am reading in this series. I actually enjoyed binge reading it, but there is just so much that I can take on heroes making the same mistakes over and over again. It was fun for a while, in the beginning. 7 books later? Not so much.
*** MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD ***
The plot still had that same concept of the broken hero who has to put his sh*t together in order to help, protect and save the broken heroine who is in danger because of some evil lunatic. However, Mara's situation is so unique that it somehow made this old tale seem a bit refreshing. Although, I must ask: what was the point of that prologue, if it is in the present day? When I saw there was a prologue from Mara's POV I was expecting some sort of flashback, maybe her interview when she took the job at Resting Warrior's ranch (which I really wanted to know how that went since she couldn't speak) or even her past in the compound. As it was, it could have simply been the first chapter. And I was surprised that Grant and Cori were getting married before Lena and Jude since they weren't even engaged. Emma and Daniel got engaged before them, but I assumed she wouldn't want to get married with a big baby bump. Still, it could have been Jude and Lena. I was enjoying the story a lot, until close to the end. Let's face it: these guys have seen it all, after everything that happened with Evelyn, Grace, Cori, Kate, Lena and Emma. They can't afford to believe in coincidences anymore. When Jude started to suspect that the owner of the new coffee shop could be sabotaging Lena he immediately went to search her background and all of that. So, when Liam realized that Brynn arrived in town at the same day that Mara received that package, why didn't he do the same? It wouldn't hurt to look into that, even if it felt like a long shot, just for the sake of some peace of mind! It really was too much of a coincidence and they were all doing all sorts of research anyway. The fact that he let that slide felt a bit idiotic. And later, when they were in Phoenix and the car didn't start, what does our hero do?? He sends his girlfriend away in the town where he was attacked only weeks before because he wants her to see that guy going back to prison while he stays behind to figure out what's wrong with the car. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ This coming from the same guy who didn't want her driving a truck that was sounding a little different or who didn't even want her to spend one night alone. Honestly, I couldn't buy that! Not after 7 books, c'mon! It was beyond naive, it was unforgivably stupid!! When Liam was kicking himself saying "Oh, I failed, I didn't protect her", I was like "Yeah! I agree!!". TSTL again!! The other thing that I couldn't buy was the crash. 70 m.p.h., the guy wasn't wearing a seat belt (Mara states that) and he walks away without a single scratch. Really?? It would have been more believable if Liam had found Mara there hurt by the airbags but still alive and the guy badly injured after flying into the windshield, which was the most possible outcome for a crash described like that. There was no need for that extra drama. Total overkill, IMO. And the epilogue didn't bring any new information so it was quite useless too. So yeah, it wasn't a good way to end the series, but at least now I am done with this same old, same old.
MONTANA SILENCE by Josie Jade is the seventh instalment in the contemporary, adult, romantic suspense RESTING WARRIOR RANCH series co-authored by Janie Crouch and Josie Jade. This is former US Navy SEAL Liam Anderson, and Mara Greene’s story line. RESTING WARRIOR RANCH focuses on the men and women who own and work for Resting Warrior Ranch-a spin off from Janie Crouch’s Zodiac Tactical series.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Liam and Mara) MONTANA SILENCE follows the building romance and relationship between former US Navy SEAL Liam Anderson, and Mara Greene. Mara Greene was raised in a cult, and escaped to find solace at the Resting Warrior Ranch but Mara never felt safe; always felt like she was being watched; and refused to speak about what happened or why. Proclaiming himself to be Mara’s protector former US Navy SEAL Liam Anderson became Mara’s guardian when she needed him the most but all did not go according to plan when Mara discovered the man who was once in charge of the cult was up for parole, and Mara was to be the prime witness against a man who had threatened her life. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Mara and Liam, and the potential fall-out as several members of the former cult target our story line heroine.
The world building focuses on Mara’s struggle for independence, and her inability to trust in the wake of betrayal and obsession. Mara never thought she would ever fall in love but Liam made it easy for our story line heroine. When several mysterious packages threaten to push Mara over the edge, Liam knows he must step up and claim Mara as his own.
The relationship between Mara and Liam begins as friendship and security as both work at the Resting Warrior Ranch. Liam has been attracted to Mara from the first time they met but Mara continues to struggle with issues of trust, having learned that someone else may be taking control of the once powerful cult. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters, many of whom we have met in the previous story lines. We are introduced to new hireree at the coffee café Brynn. Mara’s attorney Claire, as well as former cult leader Malcolm Novie, and cult member Neil. Not everyone is as they present themselves to be.
MONTANA SILENCE is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and fanaticism, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is heart breaking and engaging; the romance is passionate and seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and broken.
Mara has been working at Resting Warrior Ranch for years as the housekeeper. Always quiet, always conscientious about her duties, the men of Resting Warrior Ranch know that she has faced trauma and is slowly recovering, even if they don't know the details of her life before she found her way to the ranch.
Raised in a cult, Mara was conditioned to be silent and dutiful through emotional and physical abuse perpetrated by the men in charge. Years later, she still struggles with verbal communication, often losing her words when she needs them most. Dealing with flashbacks, selective mutism and her frustration that she can't seem to release herself from the conditioning of her youth, she is a heart-breaking character. What she has lived through is more than enough to devastate most people. Her fight to recover and build a new life after the cult was raided and the abusive leader was imprisoned is an inspiring read.
Liam is always quick with a joke and often acts as the comic relief. Humor is a tool he uses to keep others at a bit of a distance. Raised in foster families, abandoned by his wife years ago and being injured before his discharge from the military have combined to make him reluctant to open himself up too much to the other men of the ranch. He has been attracted to Mara for quite some time but is so concerned about her safety and comfort that he has never acted on that attraction. He is willing to forgo his own happiness so that Mara can remain comfortable and secure in her chosen home.
Finally given some encouragement by Mara, Liam decides to be brave and take his chance with initiating a more romantic relationship with her. Opening himself up to someone for the first time in years is a bit nerve wracking for Liam, but being with Mara more than outweighs the risks. Seeing beyond his jokester facade to the thoughtful, caring, protective man within is a great read. He's exactly the type of support that someone like Mara needs to help her continue her recovery. While she doesn't want to use Liam as a crutch, his attention and unending patience with her continued efforts to regain her voice are a beautiful read. I especially liked the nonverbal method of communication that the couple develop to enable Mara to express herself even when her words go into hiding.
When Mara's past catches up to her, the action intensifies quickly, leading to an exciting, fast-paced and very satisfying conclusion to the story.
Five stars for this emotional and gut-wrenching romance read.
This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
Of all of the Resting Warrior Ranch books, this is the one I’ve been waiting for the most. Mara has been the housekeeper for the sanctuary for years. She is quiet, at times skittish but a constant on the ranch. Each of the owners have dealt with PTSD in their own way so they clearly recognize it when they see it in Mara. Instead of pushing her about her history of trauma, they give her space and respect her privacy. For Liam, Mara has always been a bit of a mystery that he has watched but there is still always a pull towards her. He is very much so the opposite, choosing to be the ranch jokester in every way. When Mara receives a surprise package from the cult that she was once part of, it scares her into telling Liam her past and in so, opening the doorway to helping her deal with what happened to her.
Silence has always meant security and a place of safety for Mara. Her experiences in a cult where women were nothing more than property shared by ALL the men forced her to lose her voice because staying quiet meant that no attention was drawn to her. Trying to hide made her a wallflower and when she was at the ranch, that’s what she tried to become to avoid attention. But her years of practiced silence took away her voice, her sounds, her words and eventually her “person.” Speaking thoughts and ideas were difficult, oftentimes she choose to use physicals motions like nods and pointing in order to get her ideas across. Liam realizes that his love and respect for her was not based on the number of words she spoke because in reality, he would exist in absolute stillness as long as she was part of it. However, it was the intensity of her deafening silence that made Mara more beautiful to him. The concept of “Family” is also played with here as this was the name of the cult she left. However, they were the furthest thing from what family actually meant. Here at this ranch, she was thrown in with a menagerie of persons that were completely unique and different but in every way represented love as a family should. Mara finds her voice realizing that her unique sound is not only greater than silence but that it represents the woman she has become, not allowing her past to interpret her future. Oftentimes, those who are most quiet have the most to say and in turn, have the loudest voice with a story to tell.
Liam Anderson is the quickest one of the former SEALS on Resting Warrior Ranch to crack a joke. And to poke at his friends and co-owners over their newly found loves. They, have watched as he has fallen completely for the very quiet Mara Greene. Mara, tends the garden, fixes meals and is quiet. A survivor of “the Family” a cult in Arizona, whose leader she put in jail with her testimony, learned quiet was the best and only way to survive in that community. She has sought and been granted friendship and haven at RWR. At Daniel’s and Emma’s wedding, (Montana Freedom), Mara suffers a debilitating panic attack that Liam witnesses. He engulfs her in his arms until he feels her begin to relax. FINALLY! The two begin to share confidences, especially when the wedding veil Mara was embroidering to wear as a “Bride of Honor” within the family, suddenly appears at the ranch. The mystery of why begins a series of strange happenings, and trips to Arizona to testify at the parole hearing for the former head. Had she been forced to marry the head, Marcus Novik, she would have also been married to 20 other male members. With Liam and the other RWR and Garnet Bend friends she now has, will the mystery of the veil be uncovered? And what of the relationship of Liam and Mara. Mara is a victim and in her ‘quietness’ is an inner strength she is unaware that she possesses. In Liam, she finds the calm and quiet and acceptance and love that she desires to have, forever. But what of Liam’s secrets that he will have to share. And will Mara be able to overcome her fears and open herself up to joy? Josie Jade’s and Janie Crouch’s 7th installment in this series is an absolutely joy to read and yet heartbreaking. This reader cried for and on behalf of Mara. What she endured as a young girl in this cult. What happened to her mother and to her brother? Can she literally find her voice and be heard? Will she remain frozen at her home surrounded by cameras and security to remain safe? Will she accept the offers of friendship from the wives of the RWR warriors? Will she come into her own? And and and…. A must read. Beautifully and most thoughtfully written characters. Readers of the series are familiar with all of the characters, their humor, love, acceptance and support of each other. Readers will pull for Liam and Mara. His wisdom and caring are exactly what will unlock and support Mara. Is she ready to accept? What is more than 10 stars?
This book is the beautiful, heartwarming love story between Mara and Liam. Both of them have lived through pasts that Liam describes as “not normal.” Both of them have survived situations that would have broken most people to live ordinary lives.
Mara and her mother join a cult when she is six years old. In this cult, women had no freedom. They weren’t allowed to talk and they were physically punished when they committed a “wrong.” As a result of her years in the cult, Mara rarely talks and she still suffers from PTSD.
When Mara is fifteen, the leader chooses Mara to be one of his wives. In this cult, the husbands can force their wives to service other men if they so choose... Fortunately for Mara, the cult is raided before the marriage takes place.
Mara now lives on Resting Warrior Ranch in Montana. This is a working ranch that takes in troubled people and offers them work and a safe haven from their troubles. Here, Mara is free and feels content and safe.
Liam also grew up in an abnormal family. When he is old enough, he joins the Navy and becomes a Navy SEAL. He claims this is the first time he ever feels part of a family. When he leaves the Navy, be becomes part of the ranch “family.” He works the ranch and is very close friends with the ranch community. He hides his feelings about his past under his charming personality and his constant sense of humor.
Liam befriends Mara and is very conscious of her fragility. He befriends her in order to help her heal. However, he does not anticipate falling in love with her. As their relationship grows, Mara becomes friendlier and closer to Liam and all of his friends. All of these new friends are able to provide a support group that helps Mara begins to heal.
Unfortunately, Mara becomes entangled with the cult figures again when she is forced to speak at the leader’s parole board meeting. He is still in prison, but somehow he is still able to send threatening messages to her. At this point, intrigue and fast-paced action will captivate the readers.
Readers will love Liam. He is a gentle, strong and compassionate man who treats Mara like a queen. He encourages and supports her with her newly found independence. Most of all, he highly respects Mara for her in everything she does.
Captivating read, a wonderful story with great characters that have you riveted to story This is a story based around Mara Greene that had unfortunately grow up within a compound where the women as soon as they reached what was considered a desirable age married off to me far older than themselves, sometimes to men that may have had more than one wife and they were not married for love or desire it was in many cases purely to fulfil a need. When Mara had escaped from the compound in which she had been bought up it was soon to her turn to become another child bride, she would have been passed around between the men in her compound and would have been owned by them all. There was no love of feeling for the women they were simply a commodity fulfilling a need, they life and comfort was given no regard at all. She gave her testimony and this is what helped to free other women in similar predicament as herself and also had then left and was staying on the Resting Warrior Ranch and this was then to guarantee her safety but she was still not certain of her safety and it is essential that she remain safe and sound but she remains trapped in silence that she has become almost trapped on.
Liam Anderson is always the first team member to crack a smile or a joke. No one not even his Navy SEAL brothers and his painful past or the truth he hides behind his charming mask, he met Mara and he has been captivated by her and he wants to not only get to know her but also wishes to protect her. He is captivated by Mara’s beauty and her wishes to ensure that Liam and her become better acquainted.
When Mara’s past resurfaces, Liam won’t let her face things all alone he wants to do all that he can to help her, he hopes that being her personal protector they will be able to build up more trust and a better relationship with her.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
This book has been wanted ever since I started this series. Mara has fascinated me and I’ve been wondering what her past was filled with and to say it was rough is an understatement. Mara is this sweet, quiet incredibly strong woman who has just wanted her life to be her own. Thankfully Mara did escape her life almost unscathed however her past is what makes her so quiet. Liam is the life of the Resting Warrior Ranch crew and most definitely the jokester and has been intrigued by Mara since she arrived. Liam recognizes just like the rest of the crew that Mara has been through something intense and traumatic but also know not to push her to speak. Just because she doesn’t speak doesn’t mean Liam can’t understand what she needs, feels and wants. Liam truly understands Mara almost better than anyone else which surprises Mara, she truly thought not many people paid attention to her. Granted the women of the Resting Warrior men have always made a point to include her even if she doesn’t speak. Mara has always kinda had her eyes on Liam but doesn’t believe a man like him will want a woman such as herself. However fate has a way of making sure two souls that can truly understand each other come together and help each to heal. Although like most of the strong women of the Resting Warrior Ranch men, Mara’s past seems to come barreling back into her life with a vengeance. This time though she not only has a strong man behind her, she has her family behind her. Family is most definitely not always blood, sometimes the best family is the one that is chosen. The question is will Liam finally realize what he has? Will Mara’s past demolish the life she’s created and the future she desires? Can you trust a friend? What happens when you finally find your voice and you’re encouraged to use it and use it loudly? Will the men and women of Resting Warrior Ranch be able to handle family dinner not at the ranch? This story is so incredibly beautiful, funny, sad, tragic, hopeful, action packed, spice filled and most importantly filled with love. I’m so in love with all of these characters in this beautiful world created by Josie Jade, and can’t wait for more.
This story was both heart wrenching and heart warming. I've been curious to read Mara's story from the beginning, and it was worth waiting for! Mara rarely speaks. Is she shy, naturally the quiet type, or is there a deeper reason for her silence? No one at the ranch knows her background; not even Daniel, though he does know she's been through something traumatic. No one is forced to share their demons unless they want to. Liam has his own traumatic experiences to deal with, and a few deep insecurities as well. He's been drawn to Mara since the first time he saw her working at the ranch, but was afraid she would reject his attention if he approached her. All of that changes when he helps her through a panic attack at a friend's wedding. Mara feels safe in Liam's arms, and he is encouraged to let her know he is there for her for whatever she is comfortable to give him. They are just becoming closer when a strange package is delivered to Mara. One that fills her with fear and revulsion. It's an embroidered wedding veil. One with a bizarre design. Mara already wanted Liam, but now she desperately needs his strength and protection. She also needs him to know she sees so much more in him than that, and wants to tell him. She just needs to find her voice. Liam doesn't care if she can't speak. They will find their own way to communicate. Some things don't need words. The men of Resting Warrior Ranch protect their own, and Liam and Mara are family; the best kind of family. They chose each other and anyone who messes with one of them has made a serious mistake. Maybe their last! I highly recommend this series!
Note: Each book builds on the next with the same characters, though each story focuses on one couple and their journey. Note: These books are intended for mature readers. Strong language, suggestive remarks, explicit sex scenes, with vivid details are common to each story. Note: Violence, vicious criminals, psychological trauma, and torture are also part of each story in some form. The bad guys Very bad!
OMFG, I think this is the first book that actually has the characters as they're supposed to appear on the front cover. FINALLYYYY.
Liam was a fantastic read, and I loved hearing the thoughts inside his head. Contrary to a different review of this book that I saw, I thought that he was indeed as funny as he usually is in other books and stayed true to character.
I loved the way that Liam and Mara were able to communicate via tapping. That warmed my heart. An absolutely beautiful representation of their situation.
The other characters get a nice amount of "screen-time."
The not so good:
The ending was very flat to me. Too much "WTF?" After such an interesting and pretty realistic story, I was unhappy with the leap the ending took. Sure, we all love our suspense and action scenes, but it disrupted the flow of the book for me in a big way. On top of that, the whole last 8th or so of the book felt somewhat rushed and unfinished to me. Where on earth were all the details on Liam and his trauma and overcoming it? I felt cheated out of hearing more good things for the happy couple.
Mara was so focused on her past and her trauma that I never really felt like I connected with her current character which I found unfortunate.
Overall, I liked this book - especially the beginning and middle. I do recommend. Let's get to the end of this series, guys!
Montana Silence is the seventh book set within the Resting Warrior Ranch. It could be read as a stand alone, but this series is richer when you read the books in order. Liam has had his eyes set on Mara for a while, and just as he works up his chance to ask for more with her, Mara is threatened by her past. Liam is determined that even in her silence, she’s worthy and loved, but will he be able to keep her safe?
Holy smokes!! This book was straight fire, from beginning to end, and I don’t just mean the steamy connection that Mara and Liam have. There is so much emotion, so much tension, and after falling in love with these two characters from the beginning of this series, I was afraid of reading this book too quickly and missing something. I feel like my heart is still pounding after finishing this book, and I feel like a bit of an emotional mess, but that’s part of what makes this book so good! Mara has so much fear from her past, so much conditioning that she is still working through, and trying her hardest to feel safe with her voice. I LOVE that Liam gives her a safe place to just be, to be quiet when she needs, and to allow her to talk when she can. Liam was so great for Mara, as he was able to be that solid foundation for her, but I really loved that he had his own demons. I don’t know if it’s true to say he fell first, but he made me swoon! Their connection was so pure and sweet and steamy and wonderful! I loved how they cheered each other on in the same breath as fighting for the other. I thought the tension and ever-present danger in this book was fantastic, and that kept me captivated and surprised. So good! This series is amazing! I love this book and am already excited for what will come next in this series!
The actual story about Mara, Liam, and the Family had a nice amount of suspense, danger, and some action. I liked Liam and Mara as a couple. I like the family atmosphere of love, loyalty, Brotherhood, etc that comes with the Resting Warriors community.
There are things that reduced the number of stars I had planned on giving this book.
1. How old was Mara? How old was Liam? I know her age when The Family was raided. I shouldn't have to calculate or guesstimate her current age.
2. What does Mara look like? Hair color? Color of Eyes? Tall, short, thin, curvy? I could not form a picture of her. Her tattoos and her crown of hair were the most descriptive thing about her.
3. The same goes for Malcolm. Other than he had dark skin, there was no description. Was he black, Native American, Hispanic, Latino, Spanish, AAPI, African or some other POC? Tall, muscular, a runners body, etc.? Short hair? Long hair? Wavy?
4. Same for Malcolm. Other than his crazy eyes and crazy smile. And then we have Neil.
5. Did Liam ever discuss his past other than being in foster care? He had a "dark, bleak" feeling? Was that the reason he was at RWR? I have read other books in the series and knew what issue they were fighting to get through. I was never sure in Liam's case.
I don't like to create a character's image from the cover picture. I have often found the character in the book to be described completely different from the cover models.
The fact that the main characters in this book were so nondescript took something away from the story for me. I would suggest that you read this book and judge for yourself.
Montana Silence is the seventh book in the Resting Warrior Ranch Series, this is Mara and Liam's story. I have been anxiously awaiting Mara and Liam's story and it was definitely worth the wait. As a child Mara was raised in a cult called The Family, where opinions and freedom in women were not tolerated. When she was fifteen she managed to escape being a child bride -- who would have been shared and owned by all the men in the compound -- once the compound was raided. Mara's testimony helped put the cult leader, Malcolm Novic, in prison. Mara has found a safe haven at Resting Warrior Ranch but she is still trapped in her silence and always alone. She might feel like she is alone but that is not true at all. She is a part of the Resting Warrior Ranch family and there is nothing they wouldn't do to protect one of their own. Liam, who is captivated by fragile Mara, is always willing to be the first to step up for Mara. He has no clue she is just as captivated by him as he is her, she is just unsure of how to let him know when she can barely speak in front of him. Liam is amazing he doesn't need Mara's words he can understand what she's trying to say just by looking her in the eyes. They even have a tap method they use to communicate when she is finding is especially difficult to speak. Once Mara's past resurfaces Liam is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her, he refuses to allow anyone to steal her voice again. This was such a great read, I can't wait to see what Josie has in store for us next.
👰🏼♀️💬The author could have created a funny guy without pushing it so hard. We don't need to know every single details and reasons before delivering all of Liam's jokes. Just let it land with the situation.
👰🏼♀️💬3days and no one checked on her? Sure they don't know her past but still.
👰🏼♀️💬Mara is quite traumatized. Liam should chip those walls slowly, not get offended and back down whenever he touches it.
👰🏼♀️💬Dude just learned about the girls whole sordid past and present situation and still prioritized a date. You shouldn't be thinking about that! Handle that situation first! From this point romance should be the subplot.
👰🏼♀️💬The lawyer was totally guilt tripping Mara on her therapist's office and her therapist didn't even intervene. That girl was 🤏 this close to having a mental breakdown.
👰🏼♀️💬You don't leave her alone when the danger is far away but volunteerily tell her to go to the court alone (with a 🚩character but still) where the bad guy and his goons will be waiting and seething for her. Wakanda sense is this? She doesn't even want to go so WTF. Oh and they separated them by sabotaging their car(Liam is a mechanic) I also didn't understand Brynn's purpose. If Claire was on their side and she was handling the case from the beginning it means they always knew Mara's whereabouts. So why wait or send Brynn? Moreover you don't need to book a therapy session at the same place to look after a person. She even got a job, she was barely in Mara's vicinity and Claire was the one who sent those packages to Mara.🤷♀️ This whole book is badly written.

I voluntarily reviewed "MONTANA SILENCE" Absolutely love this series each story gets better & better this was one of my favorites so full unknowns, haunting pasts return, suspense, lies, intrigue, angst, fear, stalker, danger, steam, secrets betrayal, surprises & twists that makes this an addicting page turner to the end. Mara Greene & Liam Anderson have been dancing around each for awhile both have traumatic pasts their dealing with he makes her feel safe calms her when she has her episodes the only who can at the ranch she's sees Dr. Rayne Westerfield for therapy which has been helping her. Mara from the age of 6yrs was raised in a Cult compound her life was horrific there at age 15 Malcolm Novic leader of Cult tells her she'll be his honour bride meaning also all the men on the compound but they get raided her testimony sends him to prison for years but he's up for parole her Lawyer Claire wants her testify to keep in prison. I definitely recommend to get this riviting emotion journey Liam & Mara take you on so much happens watching her deal with everything going on is heartwtenching but love how Liam is with her through it all the shocking ending will blow you away. I'm so looking forward to the next book "MONTANA RAIN" it's going to be a great read "Dr. Rayne Westerfield & Cole Phillips"story he's an FBI Agent, I'd also like more of Brynn's story she's now living in Mara's old cabin at Resting Warrior Ranch". PHENOMIBAL HEARTWRENCHING ROMANCE I LOVE IT 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
This book is such a passionate, romantic love story and so much more. It’s also about two people overcoming their trauma and insecurities in a powerful way. Mara, the heroine, is guided in her healing and, most importantly, finding her voice first through Rayne, the psychologist, then by Liam. Liam is significant in taking her healing to the next level. Liam has his own demons to face but becomes stronger by helping Mara. Can I say that Liam is my new book boyfriend and favorite of the group? Because of how he acted in previous books, we see him as the jokester of the group; but in this book, we really get to know his character. He was extremely patient with Mara and seemed to know exactly what she needed when she needed it. He also allowed her to communicate in a way that was comfortable for her, never pushing for her to do more than she was able. Their journey to finding love for each other is one not to be missed. The author’s words and storytelling ooze the type of romance that I love — slow build with the characters truly getting to know each other on the deepest level possible. I only wish we knew more about Liam’s backstory as a child and how he grew up. We have a backstory, but I think a bit more information would have provided a better perspective on his feelings of abandonment. This is a book that I will be reading again, it was just that powerful. I was gifted this book as an arc, and this is my honest review.
Montana Silence by Josie Jade Resting Warrior Ranch #7
Another superb addition to the series ~ Mara has been a mystery without a voice for six books and I was eager to hear her story and see her get her happily ever after with Liam.
What I liked: * Mara: survivor, raised in a cult, abused, groomed to be a “bride” way too young, suffers from PTSD, has flashbacks, quiet and often silent as a defense mechanism, rather taken with Liam * Liam: ex-Navy SEAL, raised in the foster system, has abandonment issues, strong, caring, sensitive, empathetic, jokester, home is important to him and so is Mara * The connection between Mara and Liam * That Mara and Liam find a way to be together, communicate sometimes without words, trust, care, and fall in love with one another * The plot, pacing, setting, and writing * That I cared about the couple and hoped they would come through okay * The twists, turns, and surprises * Getting to see the resting warriors and their partners again and find out how they are doing * All of it really except…
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like * Thinking about cults, charismatic leaders, and the evil they do
Did I like this book? Yes Would I read more by this author? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
“Montana Silence” is a powerful, emotionally rich romance that beautifully balances suspense, healing, and second chances. Josie Jade delivers a heartfelt story that pulled me in from the very first page.
Mara Greene is a deeply compelling heroine—raised in a cult, silenced by trauma, yet brave enough to fight for her freedom. Her journey from survival to self-discovery is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Watching her slowly find her voice again was incredibly moving, and it’s impossible not to root for her every step of the way.
Liam Anderson is everything you’d want in a protector—loyal, kind, and quietly wounded. His chemistry with Mara is intense but tender, and their bond grows in such a believable, touching way. I especially loved how their healing felt mutual—both characters were broken in their own ways, yet found strength in each other.
The setting of the Resting Warrior Ranch adds the perfect backdrop for this redemption arc, and the layers of emotional depth, paired with a hint of danger from Mara’s past, kept me turning the pages late into the night.
If you love protective heroes, strong but traumatized heroines, and emotionally driven plots with just the right amount of suspense, Montana Silence is an absolute must-read. I’ll definitely be checking out the rest of the Resting Warrior Ranch series.
