I’m gonna give this 2.75⭐️

This really could have worked and been a cute little insta love novella, but there was just something really missing from it! I’m not ever exactly sure what was missing but it just felt empty.
It’s like when you cook a dish and can’t work out what seasoning you forgot to add.

Boyfriend Buddy Read #1

OVERALL RATING: 2🌟
SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

The Good: I actually thought this started out really well! Our FMC finds herself in the wrong town, tired, hungry, and just all over bent out of shape from life. She makes a fast friend with the hotel keeper, who tells her to head down to the only bar in town and chat it up with the beard bartender.

The Bad: Sadly, there is more bad than good. The lack of conversation before and after the hookup. It's an instalove and the MMC says he likes her for than her looks and the sex, yet that is kind of all he actually talks about and does with her. So the instalove didn't feel genuine. The epilogue was fine, I didn't love it, but it worked. The bonus scene, however, is cringe. They openly discuss sex in front of their oldest child who I estimate is around three, and she repeats back what they say. The characters are pretty cliche, she jammed as many tropes into this short story as possible and it just felt clunky. And finally, the nick name. Chelsie baby is just gross.

What is the boyfriend buddy read?
My boyfriend recently discovered the wonderful world of KU and has been fascinated by the large number of incredibly spicy shorts and novellas 😂 We decided to seek out the most taboo and spicy stories out there and read them together!

It was a little ridiculous but it was 70 pages so my expectations were very low. It was fun though, the smut was cringey sometimes but it was ok.

A man who loves you for you is important. But a man who loves your curves, now that's a bonus.
Our Girl plus-size/curvy heroine has been fat-shamed by her ex-boyfriend. She is off to go visit her friend and take a break. So off she goes. Expect she makes a few wrong turns and ends up somewhere near Bear Lake. She manages to make friends with the front desk woman (Who gives her a discounted rate for all of the trouble she has been through) She goes and meets our Man who makes sure she has some food. But also takes her home?

Personally not a fan of the insta love. I mean this is a very lust forward book. I give it like a 2.5/5 spicy.

This could be a light and easy read, but I just didn’t find it so. The writing style wasn’t for me which, made it hard to get through.

SA Trigger Warning

I was grooving right along with one until the sexual assault. I understand the author was trying to move things along with the sexual interest, but it would have taken two lines to make it not SA.

Spoilers ahead::
There is a scene where the night after they meet and have sex, she wakes up to him already going down on her. This isn’t okay. There was no consent to continue the sex from the previous night and she was asleep when he started.

It could have been so easily avoided with something small like her waking up with him watching her, and he could say something like, “I couldn’t stop thinking about how delicious you were on my tongue.” And then her asking if he’d like another taste. Or something. Anything other than her waking up to him already going down on her.

Like if they’d been in an ongoing relationship this might be okay, but at this point in the book they’d known each other less than 12 hours. Soo so not okay.

REVIEW
I want to start by thanking Kate J. Blake for a new book boyfriend.

Damn, Bryan was everything I want in a man. Sexy, romantic, respectful as fuck, about 10 years older than me, so non-toxic one could probably not even be more non-toxic... Just perfect.

This novella was well-written and sweet and steamy in equal parts. The perfect balance and as mentioned, the hero was just... chef's kiss. Lovely and oh-so-relatable heroine as well.

If you're looking for a short and sweet but spicy read with a curvy heroine, a hero to die for (did I mention he's respectful and non-toxic as fuck?), and a one-night-stand that might turn into forever, then this is exactly what you need to read.

This was a strangers to lovers Insta-love romantic comedy.

This was a sweet steamy quick read. The characters were well developed and relatable. The story gives a warm cozy feel to the reader. Would recommend.

Chelsie is a curvy baker. After a year of working in a ritzy patisserie for a boss from he** she requested vacation time to visit a friend in Lake Elsinore, her boss refused so Chelsie quit. She also recently ended a five year relationship with a terrible guy and lost her apartment when he refused to leave. Her car is on its last gasp and she is broke. She dreams of opening her own bakery and having a family.

Bryan is a former attorney in New York. He moved back home to Big Bear Lake and opened a bar with his friend. He also has other local investments.

Chelsie gets lost on her way to Lake Elsinore and winds up in Big Bear Lake. She stops at the Lodge and meets the friendly receptionist who gets her a room and suggests she go next door to the bar for food. At the bar Chelsie meets Bryan and he offers to cook for her at his place. Bryan is instantly smitten by her and wants to take care of her. They get to know each other and fool around a bit. Afterwards they hookup and she spends the night. Next morning she misinterprets something she finds in his drawer. After he explains he also lets her know they are more than a ONS. She decides to take a chance on them and they get their HEA.

This was a good story but not my favorite by this author. It felt rushed and although I have to remind myself it’s just a story it didn’t seem realistic to me. I did enjoy reading it but it just wasn’t my fav.

This story brought Chelsie 70 miles from where she was supposed to be staying with friends. No gas, phone dead, charger broken and very little money left to her name.

She ends up at a very fancy hotel where the receptionist takes pity on her and gives her a room because men suck and women need to support each other in their time of need.
I loved this part and wished Kenzie had a bigger role in the book.

Bryan is the bartender ant said fancy hotel and he falls in lust and love at first sight with Chelsie when she walks into his bar. With the kitchen closed he offers to cook her dinner at his place after hearing her story and partially taking pity on her and partially wanting to get her under him.

After an explosive night together she gets ready to leave after finding something she misinterprets in his dresser while looking for a shirt to wear. And after the narcissistic, borderline abusive crap her ex put her through she has a hard time believing anyone at face value.

But Bryan wants more than one night and he begs her to stay, with him, in town forever.

That Sexy Bartender by Kate J. Blakes

If the name of the book alone grabbed my attention but then I started reading and it was entertaining . This was a sweet steamy quick read however the only aspect I didn’t enjoy was the instant part but tu hay didn’t deter me from finishing. I liked the chemistry between Chelsie and Bryan. Chelsie is in a bit of a bad luck streak she just broke up with boyfriend of five years she has a boss who is horrible and she has to find a place to live. Sure the boyfriend sucked so she is better off without him and her boss well she could use a new place to work that makes her happy so what does she do she quits and goes to visit her friend. Bad luck strikes or does it when she gets lost on her way to Lake Elsinore and winds up in Big Bear Lake. Bryan is a hottie who use to be a lawyer in New York but has moved back to where you kings ask non other then Big Bear Lake. So Chelsie has to stop for the night since she is lost and she is told there is great food at the bar so she heads there and there she meets Bryan. Then bam instan chemistry. Like is said there were some aspects I didn’t like but besides the not liking the instant bam we are happily ever after I did enjoy this boo and would recommend.

This was a fun, fast paced read with writing that was fresh and flowed naturally. The characters, their thoughts, and the dialog all worked in conjunction to draw the reader into the story and develop that emotional tether enabling empathy for Bryan and Chelsie to to abound. I also really enjoyed the time for learning and bonding taken between the MCs as opposed to getting into deeper waters than they were ready for.

Not only was the story wonderful in its own right, but it addressed current hot topic issues superbly. Empowerment, anti-bullying, anti-manupulation, acceptance of self...these are all things that need to be ingrained through statement and repetition. I applaud Blake for using the MMC to communicate these messages of acceptance - repeatedly.

I was fortunate to receive an ARC and happily leave this honest review. I look forward to reading more works by this author (Kate Blake).

Finding the Right One . . .

It was one of those days that keeps getting worse. Chelsie’s ex cheated on her, she quit her job when her boss would not let her take her vacation time, and then gets lost trying to get to meet up with her best friend. However, getting lost turned into the right move after all when she met a bartender who was everything a good man should be. Chelsie and Bryan seemed to be immediately attracted to each other. He is just who she needed, as he was kind and patient and helped her to build up her confidence again. Would Bryan be able to remove those trust issues that her cheating ex created? Is she ready to give Bryan a chance to win her heart?

I was so happy when I saw this story took place around Big Bear! I just live it there. Chelsie is sick of LA, her evil boss, her cheating boyfriend, so she heads to Lake Elsinore to regroup with her friend. Unfortunately, she gets lost in a storm and ends up at Big Bear. Tired and hungry, she goes to a bar to get something to eat and meets Bryan. Bryan is the hot bartender that can't get enough of Chelsie, so he decides to convince her to stay...forever. This story was sweet and spicy, just a feel good HEA!

Chelsie has had the worst day ever. She’s quit her job because her boss refused to give her vacation time. Her ex cheated on her and she left her apartment and is staying with a friend. Now she has to drive 70 miles to see her bff but gets lost and ends up in Big Lake, 70 miles in the opposite direction. But there she meets Kenzie who sets her up with a room and sends her to the bar to grab some food. Bryan the bartender takes one look and it’s instalove for him. He takes her to his apartment to feed her and feed her he does. Fast and steamy read, sweet couple, and a very enjoyable story. I loved it.

This was a nice novella, perfect for reading before bed. I found it to be a bit over the top, but sweet. The characters were quite well developed, as were their actions, but it felt like the focus was more on the spice in the bedroom than on the intrigue. Which was good for a short story such as this, if you know what to expect.

I recommend this to anyone looking for some spicy insta-romance, with no cheating or drama.

The only luck Chelsei seems to have is bad luck. Cheating boyfriend, fired from her job, car breaking down, phone is dead and in the wrong place. Or is she in the right place......

Headed to hopefully start new, Chelsie finds a woman with a kind heart that leads her to a man that wins her own. Bryan is the bartender, has a place above to bar and a few other secrets. When Chelsie walks in, he can't help but take care of her.

Fun fast read that warms your heart and make you smile.

I loved That Sexy Bartender. Chelsie has had a bad few months with a cheating boyfriend, losing her apartment and now losing her job. Now she finds herself in the wrong city with little money and no gas. Can things get worse? Bryan noticed Chelsie the second she walked in. The connection between them is unmistakable. Bryan will do anything to get Chelsie to stay. This was such a sweet story and I just loved the characters. It was a short and quick read. I would definitely recommend this book.

This is the perfect book to pickup to read in bed. It's quick and easy to read. Chelsie is down on her luck, cheating boyfriend, losing her job and finding herself homeless, what else could happen to her. Thinking moving to a new city will help, but it doesn't now no job, very little money when will it end. Bryan noticed her straightaway there's just something about Chelsie that makes him want to know her more. This a sweet insta love story that leaves you loving the characters. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

2.5✨ rounded up to 3/5; 4.5/10🌶️🥒.

Pros:
- cute story
- great length for a novella
- delivered on the hot bartender

Cons:
- writing felt stilted; not enough contractions used. Interrupted the flow of the story.
- story felt preachy at times. “That behavior is unacceptable” when talking about cheating and gaslighting? Duh. Know your audience.
- 2 major icks:
- the nickname chelsie baby. It felt unimaginative.
- “he could be a serial killer, or worse, a vegan.” This joke did not land for me.

I love a good meet cute!

I don’t normally read short stories because I love my Spicy Romance novels. However, that being said, this book was the perfect amount of spice and short, sweet to the point.

I loved Bryan and Chelsie’s story line and how they knew when they met there was something there and they grew from it together.

I recommend this book for any woman who loves a good meet cute but also loves a shorter story that can be read at one time. This is definitely a book I would snuggle up with my Kindle to with a nice hot cup of coffee!

5/5 stars!

I liked the plot of the book and I think the characters are good but wish we had seen more of them. Understood them more. I k ow it's a short story but it felt rushed. Like they had a limit and had to chop bits out to make it fit within the limit. It just went from zero to done with barely any explanation or expansion. I didn't connect with any of the characters because I don't feel like I got to know then.

Her best mistake - A snowstorm and wonky technology are the perfect catalysts for Chelsea's misadventure. When she winds up miles from her intended destination, it only makes sense to hunker down for the night. Meeting Bryan changes her life, the sweet, good-looking bartender everything she deserves in a partner. And he's smitten from the beginning, practically growling at any men who glance her way. A good novella with great characters whose connection is hotter than hellfire. The AI narrator didn't take much from the story.

This novella is AMAZING. Kate J. Blake did an awesome job with this novella. Both characters have great chemistry and their relationship was fast but so so spicy. They had some of the best scenes I've read. Readers who love short, insta-love, steamy novellas should totally read this book. Y'all won't regret it!.
