Book Review of the Write Formula: 12 Weeks from Concept to Completion

Rating: 5 stars
Headline: Searching for a way to write-read through and discover different ways to write your story

Review:
Author, David Rocklin, has for writers written a novel that helps the writer write his or her own story. He goes through various methods of writing, including different genres in order to facilitate a complete understanding of a way to write your complete story.
I like that author uses his own experience to explain how he finally got to his published novel the Luminist written after many rejections from publishers to publication. He talks about the journey of the story you the author are writing. There is a discussion on writer’s block and how different people deal with the phenomenon. It is interesting because writer’s block is problematic for all people not just writers.
Inside this book are the elements of a novel including point of view. The discussion of narrative is always important particularly for book reviewers. Why? One company I did write a book review for wanted it to be in 2nd person. Most are in 1st or 3rd person. Remember writing requires characters which this book handles in the chapter on five-character traits used in developing your character for the reader.

Whether you’re a writer with years of experience or someone just starting out, this book is perfect for those looking for a guide on writing style, technique, and direction towards crafting an amazing story. I have always struggled with giving my characters dynamic and strong personalities in my own writing, but with Mr. Rocklins advice: I learned so many tips and tricks on how to take my characters from all being static to characters that feel alive.

Another thing I’ve always had a problem with is breaking down my writing projects to maintain motivation for the projects and meet deadlines at a reasonable pace. This book has so much great advice for just this issue which has immensely improved my projects finish times. All in all, I found a lot of value in this book and believe fellow writers, students, and hobbyists will also get a great deal of practical advice from this book as well!

Becoming a writer is still within your reach if that’s what you’ve aspired to but have difficulty starting the writing process. David Rocklin helps you overcome procrastination and the daunting prospect of composing a story from start to finish. The text includes not-so-painful exercises in every section as a method to erase your writer’s block. The author’s subtle humor and conversational style make you want to keep on reading and learn some of his tricks to stop staring at a blank page.

Being a writer, himself, has allowed the author to totally understand the writer's mindset: it’s almost like he’s crawled into your mind with a keen ability to read the same thoughts you share. Most importantly, he makes you comfortable with the tools and techniques of writing to help create your own world.

This writing guide breaks down the process of developing, drafting, and finishing a manuscript into a clear 12-week framework. It focuses on structure, consistency, and momentum, offering practical strategies to move from idea to completed draft.

I found this book genuinely helpful and motivating. The approach felt realistic rather than overwhelming, especially for writers who struggle with follow-through. While not every tip was new to me, the way everything was organized made the process feel manageable and actionable. It’s a solid, practical resource that earned four stars for keeping me focused and moving forward.
