Obsessions and Compulsions Don’t Have to Rule Your Life
Many are finding themselves under the clutches of disturbing thoughts and emotions that keep showing up in their mind. They get lost in how to deal with these troublesome thoughts that demand for their attention.
While obsessions and compulsions are not a new struggle, the term OCD is fairly new. Yet for a long time, many have mistaken this challenging mental health battle as one of cleanliness and strict order. It goes far deeper than that.
Mark DeJesus found himself locked in the trenches of OCD, but did not even realize it for a long time. This book uncovers many chapters of his life where he had to recognize how obsessions and compulsions influenced his life and how to walk in greater freedom and healing.
It seems our world is becoming more obsessive and compulsive. With increasing anxiety, stress and worry, there are many who are secretly wrestling with intrusive disturbances in their thoughts that are stealing their peace.
The good news is that obsessive compulsive struggles do not have to own the final answer on your journey. Mark is living proof that you do not have to remain under the weight of OCD your whole life.
This book is a blueprint of his journey getting to the heart of the struggle that has helped many to make sense of what they battle with and how to embrace their own journey of healing.
Included in The OCD Healing Journey is special insight for religious OCD, relationship OCD and aspects of obsessive-compulsive struggles that interfere with healthy relationship communication.
Mark DeJesus has served as a communicator in various capacities since 1995. As a teacher, author, pastor, coach and exhorter, Mark is deeply passionate about restoring the hearts of people in the love of God and teaching them to walk in transformational living. His message involves getting to the heart of mental health struggles and the day to day battles believers face in their thoughts, emotions and relationships. Out of their own personal renewal, Mark and his wife Melissa founded Turning Hearts Ministries International, a ministry dedicated to inside out transformation. They live in Charlotte North Carolina and enjoy raising their two children, Maximus and Abigail.
I have been a student of Mark DeJesus' teachings for the past several years. His video teachings on OCD opened my realization to many facets of it that I have had in my life. I have been in psychotherapy for over 20 years, diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar, and generalized and social anxieties. What I have been dealing with more specifically in the past 6 years is my distorted view of God and anxiety and depression. I no longer have hallucinations and manic episodes. I know I am a recovering perfectionist, and I had thought that was the main problem. But in Mark's videos, he explained the seven distortions of OCD. He also explained techniques to overcome OCD here and there in various q and a videos. I love this book because it puts down what he said in his videos with greater organization and clarity, with much more explanation on application of healing actions. Where I found myself confused over how to apply healing in my life by watching his videos after trying to apply what he said, I am now clarified on the topic of OCD healing. I will be rereading the book often as God continues to lead me through layers of healing. Thank you, Mark DeJesus! God bless you and your family. ❤️
I found this book very useful, and identified several aspects that resonate with me, that I hadn’t really come into awareness and acceptance of. This book has been VERY helpful, but the strong and persistent (blatant and purposeful) Christian themes did detract from the experience for me, highly so at times. It was always worth continuing (and it’s not a tiny audiobook), and I would highly recommend it for people OCPD who are either pro-Christian or are neutral and are willing to sort through what is useful to them and what is not. I would probably recommend this as a “pass” for anyone with religious trauma or anyone whom finds Christian-flavored things off putting.
This is the best perspective on OCD that I’ve ever read. Mark finds the perfect balance of integrating deep gospel truth with proven psychology, and he avoids creating a false divide between the two (a common pitfall in other approaches!). He gently walks alongside readers as a fellow traveler while conveying wisdom from his own healing journey, and I found his insights immensely helpful. 10/10 would recommend to any Christian who struggles with obsessive thinking.
Nothing has resonated with my scrupulously quite like this book. Mark doesn’t just know about scrupulously; he has lived it. He understands it, and it shows. The stories, tips, and journey mindset that he teaches throughout the book have helped me more than anything else I’ve read or tried. I’m Catholic, and even though Mark is not, basically everything he said has been applicable for me.
This book has helped me so much over the past few months. I feel like I'm able to move forward with some hope and practical strategies connected to my faith. 5 stars for sure!
Just wow! I can’t even begin to unpack all the learning, blessing, and growth I’ve gotten out of this book! You just have to read it for yourself- I highly recommend! Here are a few nuggets, but there are so many many more!
“It’s not about the thought that arrives to you. It’s being afraid of the thought that creates the disturbance.”
“I wasn’t making room for grace, for learning and for compassion.”
“All healing begins as you learn to see your emotions with compassion…It grants an opportunity for empathy, rather than hostility towards ourselves.”
I first came into contact with Mark via his YouTube channel. I enjoyed this book and his mantra that we’re on a journey. Being a black and white person, this has helped me find a lot of grace for myself and others.
