Aiden McDane. Brave. Loyal. More sexy than any one man has a right to be.

Former Special Forces operative Aiden McDane has every reason to hate bombs expert Tara Northpoint. Problem is he can’t remember a single one - and not just because of the way she looks up at him with those big eyes and lush lips.

Years ago Aiden was captured and interrogated by the enemy—an enemy Tara worked for. She recognizes him instantly, but he can’t place her.

Though plagued by guilt, Tara can’t resist the pull they now have toward each other. Unfortunately, falling for Aiden puts them both in the crosshairs of Tara’s former employer.

Suddenly, trusting each other means the difference between surviving and ending up six feet under in an unmarked grave… So what happens when Aiden starts to remember what happened between them so long ago?

Amazon top-hundred author A.L. Lidell delivers a page-turning enemy-to-lovers stand-alone romance, with a whip-smart heroine, a powerful Special Forces operative, and heart-wrenching trauma that only love can heal.

Enemy Chase is part of the Trident Rescue and Security series, which follows a group of Navy SEALs who return home to Denton Valley, Colorado, and found a search and rescue outfit called Trident Rescue. The stories feature former-military heroes, steamy intimacy, and personal trauma that only love can heal.

My heart broke for Aiden. His journey of finding out what happened to him years ago is a painful one. Tara is someone that was misused and and stuck in a situation she had no way of escaping. Story is fast paced. I have a feeling there will be a fiery book in the future for Cassey, Aiden's cousin. This whole series is a keeper one. I've enjoyed each one immensely. This would have been a 1 day read but I started a new job and training is brutal on the eyeballs.

I borrowed Enemy Chase ~ Trident Rescue ~ Book 5, by A.L. Lidell, author from the Kindle Unlimited Program.

In Enemy Chase, Former Special Forces operative Aiden McDane was taken prisoner and tortured in Afghanistan by a team from Obsidian Ops and Tara as a young teen was forced to be part of that team. He is given the assignment to take her into custody as she is wanted for murder in a Denver bombing.

The resulting story is full of trust issues, miscommunication, revelations and a court trail full of more surprises. Never a dull moment in this one and a great romance too.

Dared to be different, which is why it's PERFECT

There's usually at least one entry in every series I read (of any genre) that ends up blowing the others out of the water. And for me, this one is it. The best of them all, and my absolute favorite. Like I said earlier, this book dared to be different in more ways than one. Apart from one of the more obvious differences (which is the narration being from four characters instead of the usual two), it did what my previous favorite (book #3) did, only amplified it. This one was far more intense, at least for me. It didn't follow the same formula at ALL, and in so many ways.

No overly endangered heroine in constant need of rescue.
No overprotective hero who wants to control his woman.
No smooth-sailing romance with zero obstacles.
No two people with a ridiculous obsession with sex.

It broke so many previously set "rules," and I LOVED that about this book. While some readers may not take too kindly to the changes implemented, I for one am not one of them.

We've got the heroine Tara. Tara is one tough woman in that she's the only one capable of protecting herself with actual fighting skills. Tara is no dainty damsel, and in fact, is the first woman to not need ANY rescuing (not in the conventional sense, anyway). She's also the first "nerdy" heroine. Gasp, right? Granted, I couldn't FULLY appreciate this little tidbit because specific characteristics that make her a nerd are conveniently unexplored, save for her smarts. And since hero Aiden of course thinks she is beautiful anyway, the nerd factor is sorta a non-issue at the end of the day. I was just excited to see that SOMEONE can be a nerd in these romance books. I'll take what I can get lol.

But let's speak on Aiden, though, who is of course the new hero front and center. We already got introduced to him in the previous couple of books, but as always, it's nice to better get to know him. And get to know him we do, because my gawd, what this man went through in his past had me writhing in my damn seat. As tough as Aiden and the rest of the Trident guys are, Aiden is the first to be this much vulnerable. In a sense, it is Aiden who needs the rescuing in this story, given his hellish past that he can't recall and the resulting PTSD. This is another way this book dared to be different: by flip-flopping the hero and the heroine in realistic ways.

Now this doesn't automatically mean that Aiden is helpless or weak. But it does mean that it's such a perfect way to show him as human, as someone who can be damaged in ways that he can't escape from on his own. I loved seeing the hero being protected for once. It's so refreshingly different. And the romance factor is exactly the kind of romance that attracts me the most: Messy. I love, love, LOVE romances that are rough around the edges. How can one find love when things are THIS complicated? And things are definitely complicated, since the only person who knows Aiden's hidden past is Tara herself, whose former employer is the one responsible for nearly killing him. She remembers well, but Aiden...well, he does not. I reiterate, what a MESS.

If there's one thing I initially complained about, it was the first sex scene between the Aiden and Tara. Given the specific circumstances, it felt way out-of-place and forced. I serious scoffed and said, "Already?" However, once the story more established itself and more details came into play, it started making a lot more sense why the scene was placed there. It did eventually serve a specific purpose in its own way, which I can accept. I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually appreciated how little sex played a role in this book. It wasn't the be-all-end-all, wasn't the ultimate solution to problems, wasn't glorified. It made the characters feel less like horny teenagers and more like self-controlling adults, and thus, far more likable.

Anyway, I guess that's enough praise outta me. I just love when I read a book I loved, ya know? The writing, the characters, the unique love story. Even the lawyering angle, which was crazy different. Looks like I got a long way to go before the next entry, but I can be patient. I just don't look forward to the name "Cassey" when I so much wanna see "Casey." But that's a whole 'nother topic.

When Aiden McDane is give the task of taking murder suspect and Obsidian Ops member Tara Northpoint into custody, he doesn’t recognize her at all. She recognizes him as the man she helped interrogate and torture in Afghanistan six years ago. She was just 18 and forced to do what she did, even as she tried to mitigate the damage as much as possible. Now she’s full of guilt and fear that although Aiden has suppressed his memories, he will figure out who she is and hate her, even as they are learning to care about each other. Tara agrees to help Trident Security take down Obsidian Ops, but her former employer and the only family she’s known, keep interfering as much as possible, as do Aiden’s twin cousins Briar and Cassey. They were the ones to rescue him and want Tara in jail or gone, which doesn’t give her a lot of choices, although she wants to do the right thing. I really enjoyed the way things played out, as the story worked itself to a very satisfying conclusion. I felt so sorry for Tara, who has been treated like a stray and used by the people who took her in as a child, and Aiden as well, who has PTSD from the horrible experience he had at the hands of the unscrupulous Obsidian Ops. These two mistreated and broken people really deserved to find happiness, and a wonderful found family in the rest of the Trident group.

The Trident Rescue series is full of hot alpha males who meet their match in every book. The books are linked although each is a stand-alone and highly addictive. I love this series and know I will go back to it time and time again.

Enemy Chase is Aiden's story. We have met the brooding Scot in previous books, but now we are about to be thrown into his world. Aiden has gaps in his memory, from a period of his life when he was taken, hostage. Aiden's life is turned on its head when he is sent to capture Tara Northpoint an Obsidian Ops Operative (and Trident's enemy). This is fast-paced, highly addictive, and as hot as hell! Tara and Aiden do light up the pages!

This is probably one of my favourite additions to this series (although I think I say that about every one!) This series gets better and better and with all the cameo appearances from previous characters, it's not hard to see why. If you haven't read any of the Trident series yet, it is one I would highly recommend.

Another great addition to this series where the flawed and enigmatic members of the group meet their matches (and more people enter the fray meaning hopefully more books in this series…)

I struggle to think of a more emotionally challenged couple than Aiden and Tara. Aiden has serious holes in his memory but understands intimately the meaning of trauma, and Tara is coming to terms with the things she has done in the past and trying to own them whilst learning to acknowledge that they weren’t always her fault and the people she trusted failed her spectacularly.

Between Tara recognising and being responsible, at least in part, for Aidens memory loss and associated trauma, Aiden questioning himself and his cousins detesting Tara this is a rollercoaster emotional (triggering!) book from start to finish

Aiden McDane will tug at your heartstrings. The ongoing torment he's suffering with over his inabailty to remember the all of the facts and sequence of events of his captivity is draining him day by miserable day. Now he's tasked with capturing a murderer and bringing her to justice. What he doesn't count on is the visceral attraction he feels. Tara Northpoint made a deal with the devil when Obsidian Ops rescued her from the streets. Now they're the enemy. Coming face to face with Aiden is a jarring experience given their history. He may have been tasked with bringing her in but he's also offering her a way out if she cooperates. As the case evolves so do Aiden and Tara. She becomes invested in the Trident Security family until she's recognized by Aiden's cousins. The past comes crashing back and while it may start to give him some peace it's a death knell for their budding relationship. The good news? Tident gets closer to taking Obsidian Ops down

I love the series but ……..

The series has five books so far and I loved, loved the first four. This one, I love the hero! Aidan McDane is a great alpha protector! Former special forces, strong, sexy, traumatized, in need of a good woman to love him and make his life whole again. The heroin was NOT good enough for him, in my opinion. Don’t want to give any spoilers away so I will just say that some things that people do can’t be undone. I was angry at the outcome. I really wanted better for him because he is an excellent character. The writing by this author is the reason I still give it three stars. I like her writing style, great interwoven characters and storylines, steamy love scenes, happily ever afters, even ones that aren’t really believable. I am not sorry I read book five …. But it is the only one that isn’t a five star rating for me!

Facing the Enemy . . .

Aiden McDane is former Special Forces. He is tasked with bringing Obsidian Ops member Tara Northpoint into custody, but he doesn’t recognize her. Aiden had been captured years ago and interrogated by Obsidian Ops through torture. Tara worked for them at the time, although she was 18 and forced to participate. Now Aiden suffers from PTSD and memory loss from the experience.

As the two of them become attracted to each other, Tara is filled with guilt and worried about how he will react if he regains his memories. They will soon have to trust each other to survive what is to come. But will that experience bring back those dreadful memories of his past and Tara’s involvement?

📚 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Romantic Suspense, military romance, enemies-to-lovers

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Aiden is sent to bring in a fugitive, Tara, who is on the run after a deadly explosion. But when they meet, Tara realizes he's not only her captor, but the man she helped torture in Afghanistan six years ago.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This is probably the best book of the series on a plot level. It still moves quickly like the others, but it's got some seriously great writing and zero plot holes - which for a book this intense is saying something.

I could have done with a bit more romance. Maybe 50 more pages to the book would have helped. But otherwise another solid read in this series.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Roller Coaster Action and Emotional Ride

This was a mesmerizing journey with a lot of ups and downs in the action and the emotions. Aiden struggles with the memories he is missing while Tara struggles with the memories she has. The memories are deeply entwined, but only Tara knows most of it. Aiden is the true heart of this story and some of his actions brought tears to my eyes. Happiness is far from guaranteed and there are a lot of people trying to ensure it never happens.

There are some dark subjects, like torture, in the story so the reader needs to enter carefully.

The character development is great and the world view is exposed when needed to make sense of the story.

This was an enjoyable read and I recommend it to you.

Ive loved every book in this series so far and Enemy Chase was another great addition to that list. Aiden's book is definitely a touching read. He has been left traumatised from having been tortured when he was kidnapped in the past. Only he has no memory of his time in imprisonment but still suffers from it. When hes has to transport Tara to be questioned about her old employers they realise that their lives are more intertwined. Aiden and Tara's book is a heartbreakingly bittersweet read and i genuinely liked both of them. The plot twists were just knockout too! I really enjoyed reading this book

Aiden McDane may have been rescued from the grip of Obsidian Ops after his cousins put everything on the line to save him but he has also blocked out what happened to him there. Now he has to take a murder suspect and member of Obsidian into custody. One look at him and Tara Northpoint recognises the man that she helped to interrogate and torture yes she may have tried to limit the damage done to him but she was still responsible fir his pain. Soon they are falling in love but what will happen when he remembers who she is and will his cousins ever forgive her You will have to read to see

Fantastic!

Alex is a master at creating characters that jump out of the pages. They are so real, so human that you feel you are right there with them. I would almost say it is a lovers-to-friends-to-enemies-to-lovers (if you can follow that) story. Aiden and Tara are a pair that doesn’t seem to quite go and yet, there are so many reasons they do. Tons of action as you would expect, emotional twists and a relentless tension that keeps you turning pages. What else could you ask for?

Hardest hitting Trident story yet

Liam is still my favorite Trident yet this story just pulled on all the heart strings. Aiden leaves me wanting to snuggle him up tight.

Still lots of great banter that I’ve come to love this series for. The greatest of ‘found family’ trope. The camaraderie is off the charts the best.

There is some delicious spice but more drama and suspense surrounding Tara and Obsidian. Can’t wait for Cassey and Sonia’s story next. Those two are explosive already. With all the new family I can’t wait to see a ‘day in the life of a Trident’.

Aiden and Tara have the worst first meeting ever. Aiden has been an enigma in this series as we know there is severe trauma but not what until this story. The villainous OO is back and Tara is connected. Plenty of emotion, military action, family dynamics bc some interesting courtroom shenanigans occur. The ending is creative and kept me on my toes. The two new members of Trident had an interesting connection to this story and I can’t wait to learn more about them. A great read and my favorite of the series so far!

Every single book in this series is a fantastic read, and Aiden's story is no exception. I loved this one, and it is currently my favourite so far. Wonderful character work, I loved the dynamic between Tara and Aiden, both of whom are strong and complex personalities. It was not an easy job making Tara likeable, but it works really well. I loved Briar and Cassey too, I am hoping both of them get their own stories too.

Wildcat

This story is full of lots of action with chases, escapes, captures, and falling in love then giving up everything for love. I liked how there were lots of twists and turns. It is an exciting story with gripping thriller experiences. I think Casey's story which is next is really started in this book And Adrian's story sorta starts in Liam's although he doesn't meet her until this story.

Great Series

I love the books in the Trident Rescue series. Each focuses on a different Trident operative and the one they fall for. Every one of the men are stand-up, honor bound former military and just what every gal looks for. The women are strong, independent, often a little inexperienced in life, and one and all just what their men need. Each story has an incredibly interesting plot with twists and turns aplenty.

Another fascinating read!

For me, this book started out a bit over the top. This might be partly due to reading it as an ebook, which always seems to make a book seem out of sorts. I can’t describe it better than that. As I read further, and got to know (and admire) Aiden and Tara, that feeling fell away and I was completely taken by the story. I don’t think I’ve read a novel where the main characters had such baggage and yet managed to believably overcome it all. Well done!

This was a lot of enemy to lovers book to take in. Aiden is a broken man and Tara is a mess. My heart broke for both of them. I loved the story. It's steamy and there are possible triggers for some people, tho. The whole series of stories has been great, and this one is no exception.

I love the previous books by this author but this just felt like there were lots of holes in the plot (which was all a bit extreme!) and it all seemed a bit rushed and not really thought through, shored up by plenty of sex.
Fortunately I liked the characters and their history enough to keep reading.

This was a great book; it had some very intense parts, and I would caution that if you are easily upset that you do not read this book and they do talk about some intense things. Overall, I loved it and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Enjoyed the series, loving how new "families" are made, and the importance of human connections. The PTSD theme throughout the book is usually handled well, though careful if you have triggers. The alpha males workouts are bit over the top, only belong in fiction, but works in the context. Warning, heavy graphic sexual context, and situational violence.

Aidan and Tara's story

Aidan sent to bring Tara back into custody after she fled, to appear at a hearing.
Now things go sideways as Tara recognizes him. 6 yrs ago he was tortured on Afghanistan. With a group she was with.
Their story is intense with emotions fast action, a must read.

This book had so many twists and turns in the plot - especially at the end. There was so much going on, but it certainly kept the reader engaged. I enjoyed both Aiden and Tara as MC's and they were well written. I loved the addition of Cassey and Briar to the cast of characters and I am looking forward to their books.

Enemy Chase: Enemies-to-Lovers standalone romance (Trident Rescue) - Ale Liddell

This is Aiden and Tara’s story. It was gripping and full of twists and turns. This predicament of what will happen when Aiden remembers Tara was his enemy lead to a lot of emotional conflicts but had me turning pages with curiosity. The ending was hard to get to but well deserved.

This is the fifth book in the Trident Rescue series and I have love them all but I think Aiden story is my favourite so far. Aiden is tasked with finding and bring back Tara Northpoint as she is wanted for murder and also works for Obsidian Ops.

Aiden is a broken man and has never recovered from what happened to him in Afghanistan 6 years before and when he tracks down Tara she remembers him and recognises him from 6 years ago when she was 18 years old and was forced to be part ff the team that integrated Aiden in Afghanistan. But Aiden can’t remember what happened to him.

Tara has not had a great life and has done things she wishes she hadn’t and one off those regret is what happened to Aiden in Afghanistan it still haunts her to this day.

The story is about betrayal , hurting , PTSD and love they are two broken people but when they are together they understand each other and help to make them better. I absolutely loved this story and would recommend you read the hole series

Pretty goid series. i like the way all the books were independent but alk the key characters crossed over into each storyline. I do wish that the next book wasn't so far away. Hopefully it will be Casey (Cassey) quickly followed NY Briar.

not as good as the previous ones

The continuous use of repeating a word 3 times was just annoying. I suppose that it was done to empathize what was going on but didn’t.
Story line was not as good as the previous books.
