NEVER GIVE UP!

Max Magic is back and he's ready to win national talent The Greatest Show on Earth! He knows he's got what it takes to impress the show's Willow Holloughby, Fox Blackshaw and Shussy D - and to wow the audiences with his illusions and magic tricks. He's not going to use his mysterious new magical abilities to do it, either - Max will compete fair and square.

But not everyone is happy about Max's moment in the spotlight. When masked magician Mr Mysterio enters the competition, Max suspects that something strange is going on. How is Mr Mysterio doing his tricks? And why is a reporter sniffing around at Gran's shop and asking questions about Max?

With the help of his friends and his trusty dog Lucky, Max is going to give The Greatest Show on Earth everything he's got . . .

An unforgettable adventure celebrating friendship, family and . . . MAGIC!

Max Mullers is competing in the national talent show, The Greatest Show on Earth – he will become Max the Magnificent!

However, when a new competitor, the masked magician Mr Mysterio, enters the competition, worry creeps in for Max… will the secret behind his magical abilities become exposed?

And has Bottley the Bully really turned over a new leaf?

Max Magic: The Greatest Show on Earth is the fantastic second book in the Max Magic, following the success of Stephen's first book, Max Magic, which was released last year.

The book is perfect for children between the ages of 9 and 12 (I'm a little older than this…), and features magic, friendship, family, drama, and references to popular culture (hi, Willow Holloughby!).

Educational and humorous (the jokes are very Stephen), the book contains a positive message for readers: Anything is Possible in Book 1 and Never Give Up in Max Magic 2.

Children's author Tom Easton returns as Stephen's co-author, and Begoña Fernández Corbalán's engaging illustrations bring Max and his story to life: the perfect dream team!

The book is set out in a dyslexic-friendly layout and font, making it accessible for all readers – something that I, someone who works in publishing, feel is important for children's books.

A QR code at the back of the book allows readers to learn magic tricks and secrets from Stephen himself… I'm now off to learn the tricks myself!

Second in this series about Max, who has magic powers after finding and opening an old chest in his gran’s basement. This time Max enters a talent show but will his bid for fame be foiled by a crooked reporter? Fun story and there’s some good activities included at the back of the book.

I received ARC of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review. I was interested in reading this as I own and have read the first book in this series, I am also a fan of Stephen Mulhern and magic in general. This book picks up from where the previous book left off and the story proceeds to see Max entering a competition akin to BGT. I didn't enjoy this book anywhere near as much as the previous one. The storyline just didn't appear to have any depth and was quite repetitive. Also they seem to flip-flop between the main character being referred to as Max Magic or Max the Magnificent to the point where I wish they had just chose one. That being said there are things about this book that I was quite a fan of, like Max's relationship with his Gran, the obvious nods to pop culture (Willow Holloughby being one) and the very Stephen Mulhern style comedy/jokes. All in all I am very aware that I am not the target demographic for this book and with that being said I'm sure most children who read this will find it very entertaining and fun.
