Night of the Living Dead #2

Night of the Living Dead, Volume 2

Rate this book
The most horrifying night in American history continues as the next chapter of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is revealed by writers Mike Wolfer (GRAVEL, WOLFSKIN) and John Russo, the co-writer of the original film classic!  Set on the fateful evening in 1968 when shocking reports flood the airwaves with accounts of the dead rising up to kill the living, officials in Washington struggle to quell the panic-stricken public as thousands of anti-war protesters converge on Capitol Hill.  With the National Guard spread impossibly thin to deal with civil unrest, Washington is completely unprepared as an unstoppable army of the undead brings its bloodthirsty reign of terror to the steps of the White House!

The zombie invasion reaches Washington DC at the same time as a group of Viet Nam War protestors decide to march on the capitol building. Mayhem, violence and nudity in spades. Also a Holiday tale featuring a Tales from the Crypt like story with spousal murder and zombies. This book is a guilty pleasure but I can't help it, it's entertaining.

Feels like a lot of retread material, like we're stuck on the same ride over and over. The plot points themselves were slightly original, but the dialogue and execution were pretty mediocre. That said, there were a few surprising moments and I don't know why I liked this at all, but I didn't dislike the whole thing. Somehow when the military guys start taking control, I actually got a little inspired. And the Christmas story was actually decent.

I think what felt so clangy was the pastiche of zombie story with the redemption story, or the zombie story with the revenge/family story. I'm afraid that each of the core storylines would've been better without the pedestrian zombie distraction.

This, from a guy who's loved nearly every zombie movie he's ever seen.

Piggybacking after what happened in the first volume this one takes place not long after the first volume and follows the characters that survived. This time the undead take on Washington DC. Seeing dead bodies and zombies storm DC was fun and wild. These books are fun and great to see the story of NOTLD continue. Also some cool cameos by Johnny and Barbara.

The zombie infestation infiltrates the D.C. anti war protests with bloody results. The Christmas horror story at the end of the collection was also a solid addition to the zombie invasion. Excellent writing and art. Very gighly recommended to mature readers.

Was probably a little better than the first book. However, just made me laugh just how many female topless zombies are in this novel ha ha. Good fun comic book though to be fair. Very unrealistic though.

Lazy review time: Russo + Nudity + Zombies = Pretty much this entire series of prequel/sequels. I have said enough about them already, but I always like to write reviews so people get an idea of what I am looking at from inside my wee little head.

Finished this just in time for Halloween, a newly imagined take on the "Night of the Living Dead" thing. The year is 1968, (the year the movie first came out) and anti-war protesters converge on the national mall in Washington but are attacked by Zombies which turns the "love-in" into something a little more diabolical. They'll be cleaning up at the White House for weeks. Not for the squeamish and faint of heart.

Underneath all the gore, nudity, and sex is a great story about different opinions people felt about the Vietnam War during the 1960's. There is an anti-war protest at Washington Monument by a large group of hippies. The national guard is called in to monitor. Add in some racial tensions, adultery, confused war veteran, and of course zombies and you got an interesting story.

I mean: zombies. Brian's. Nixon. Vietnam. Zombies. The 60's. Lots of sex. Zombies. Hard to see how the people that read this won't like it.
