War zones and wildfires? No sweat. A summer camp full of shifter kids? Oh hell no.
Buck Frazer has been a lot of things in his life - a Marine, a firefighter, human. And now, after an unwanted bite, he’s a motherloving werewolf. With wings.
He’s supposed to be enjoying his hard-earned retirement, not waking up naked on rooftops. But the feral furball sharing his skin wants to be part of a pack. And no matter how hard he fights, it keeps dragging him to one place: Camp Thunderbird. A secret summer camp for shifter kids… which is in desperate need of a camp counselor.
Two months wrangling a pack of hyperactive nine-year-olds who poof into fur every five minutes. Buck would rather swallow ground glass, but his personal curse isn't giving him a choice.
Only one thing could make this worse… and she just said, “Hi! I’m your co-counselor!”
The gorgeous woman with the sunny smile is the last thing he needs - now, or ever. Even the damn kids can see the connection between them (and are way too keen to give fate a helping hand, as if he didn't have enough problems already). Her briefest touch has the beast in him howling for release.
She’s his motherloving mate.
And she doesn’t… seem to have… noticed?
Which doesn’t make a lick of sense. Buck knows shifters (not that he is one, thank you very much). The moment they meet their mate, every other thought falls out of their tiny skulls. And Camp Thunderbird is shifters-only, no humans allowed. The infuriating woman must know she's driving him mad. She has to be a shifter…
…Right?
Welcome to Cub Camp. It's going to be one wild summer...
Packed with laugh-out-loud comedy and sizzling passion, Stormwolf Summer is a slow-burn, steamy, grumpy/sunshine, fated mates shifter romance featuring a strong midlife heroine and a growly veteran who's determined to fight fate all the way to the end. No cliffhangers!
Authors note: Buck first appeared in Fire & Rescue Shifters: Wildfire Crew, but you do not need to have read that series to enjoy this book. But if you have read the Wildfire series, you'll see some familiar faces at camp...
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
Turns out, this was just what I needed. I laughed out loud so many times and I cannot remember doing this with other books lately. I got around to liking Buck and I loved Honey from the start. These two made me laugh so hard with their interactions, it was amazing. Seeing the Hotshot Crew kids was really awesome as well - I fell in love with all of them and while I am not the outdoorsey type, I kinda wanna spend next summer on that mountain! I got through the 500 pages in 24 hours and I loved every second. Yes, the romance was a big part but it was about so much more. The way they talked to these kids (not always Buck but Honey was amazing with them) and helped them be themselves... I loved it. Seeing the Hotshot Crew again was a nice bonus.
This was a random book I picked up on a 0.99 sale. I've been doing a lot of analytical reading and I was looking for something fun and rather fluffy, and for those things this hits the spot easily.
It's an old story...boy meets girl at a summer camp. Except boy and girl are both over 45 and are camp councilors for a bunch of teen and preteen shifters. And girl isn't a shifter and has no idea about this world...until she does, and - naturally - they're fated mates. There aren't a lot of surprises in this set up, but the journey to get there was fun, and the various personalities of the kids, the MCs, and the other camp staff were enjoyable and believable. If you're looking for intense, worldshattering stakes don't come here. The stakes are personal and intimate involving the fate of the romance and the camp itself, and that smaller scale story was charming.
Content: There is an ongoing joke about the male MC not swearing in front of the kids, so there are silly insert swears like motherloving and sweet baby cheeses. It's silly, it gets a little old, and when it's just the grown ups, particularly in intimate situations there are a LOT of fbombs.
Very little violence and most of it played for laughs, like Honey (yes, that is the MCs given name) being bowled over by an enthusiastic bear cub.
Steam: 2 explicit scenes, and a lot of inuendo around those.
This has to be one of my absolute favorite books by this author! I kept finding myself laughing out loud at the kid friendly curses and the innocent attempts to get these two together. The story contained a lot of deep healing with moments that brought tears to my eyes and just the right amount of grumpy angst. I love the campfire vibes! They made me want to pull out the s'mores and hiking boots as well as adding an endearing vibe to the entire tale. This book was a fresh enjoyable read that I didn’t want to end. Speaking of which, I loved the hint of what’s coming on the horizon. I hope we don’t have to wait very long for book two.
Very cutesy setting with a human h mistakenly selected as counsellor at summer camp for shifters. The H knows she's his mate but the prejudice in this story was unpleasant. The H dislikes the h because she's human, and most of the shifters hate on others. DNF for me.
I loved the fire fighter and wildfire shifter series, and to see everyone’s cameos in this book as well as meet so many new adorable kids was SO SPECIAL. This one had me cheesin’ real hard. The kids were so funny and cute and I can’t wait to return to camp 🌲🍄🐻🦈🦄⛺️
Grab your s'mores ingredients and cozy up to the campfire. Storytime is about to begin!
Buck can barely come to grips with his inner thunderhound-zapdog, much less a motherloving fated mate, no matter how sweet Honey is. However, a group of mischievous campers figures out how to help the two along...and each other at the same time. If you enjoyed the movie, Parent Trap, you'll love this book even more.
Once again, Zoe Chant provides the best combo of adorable kids, humorous antics, a perfect couple of fated mates, character development and a happily-ever-after. As you read, you'll enjoy the virtual escape of summer camp without all the mosquito bites and sunburn. Also: thunder, lightning, storm clouds and floof.
Motherloving Quotes:
*** “I can see you both had a wonderful time,” he said, not bothering to fight down his smirk. “I’m sure we won’t have to repeat this in future. Will we, Archie?” “He made me do spreadsheets.” Archie had the thousand-yard stare of someone who had journeyed to terrible places and seen too much. “With numbers.” “And for the record, ‘butts’ is not a number,” Conleth told him. “Neither is ‘wiener.’ It’s a good thing I keep backups. And, as it turns out, backups of backups..."
*** “My heart rejoices to be reunited with such mighty warriors once more!” Honey shifted to return the hug. “Ragvald! It’s so good to see you again!” Buck let out a long , dangerous growl, lips wrinkling back from his fangs. “Oh hush, you,” she told him, not letting go of Ragvald. “There’s no point going all possessive-alpha-male to try to preserve your image. We can all see your soft, floofy belly.” Buck shifted, scowling. “For the last time, woman, my belly is not floofy. That’s defensive fur, I’ll have you know.”
Stormwolf Summer begins the Shifter Cub Camp series, which is part of the larger Fire & Rescue Shifters world. I had an absolute blast back in this world! Buck is so ridiculously sexy and stubborn (and often clueless) that his refusal to believe in his other shifter half is both funny and sad at the same time. He might have been around shifters for a lot of years, but he obviously didn’t pick up on the “shifters can be motherloving idiots” when it comes to recognizing or acknowledging their mates. His constant battle with his animal is a compelling part of his personality, even though the situations he finds himself in because of that furball are his own fault for not acknowledging their connection. I think the most emotional part of the story, for me, was Buck’s ultimate inner conversation with his animal, where he finally accepted his part in the pain they had both been feeling. The guy might be a silver fox sexy shifter… but his unique animal is indeed a very real part of who Buck has always been.
Honey is perfect for Buck, but it’s not going to be an easy process of falling in love for these two since Honey has no idea that shifters even exist… which is a real problem at a summer camp exclusively for shifter kids. I loved Honey; her compassion, her hidden strengths, and her love for these shifter kids just shines through.
If you’ve read the other connecting series (as I have), then you’ll note some familiar faces here. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of their lives today. In all, without spoilers, I completely enjoyed this one and can’t wait to dive into Pegasus Summer on release.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I've been avoiding this Zoe series because I figured it would just be too kid-centric for my tastes (which, look, is totally a me-preference, not any kind of statement about the objective value or quality of kid-centric books). But given that I've read quite a few recently where kids feature, and I've genuinely enjoyed them, I figured I'd give this one a go - and I did, indeed, enjoy it. Enough that I'll be continuing with the series.
I'm not sure what it was about it, particularly, that I enjoyed so much. The brief flash of casual queerness with one of the kids talking about their moms was nice. So was the approach to Rufus, the non-verbal griffin, and everyone's genuine inclusion and accomodation of him. Plus, Buck was a fun character with the whole constant not-swearing, which makes me want to read more about him in the previous series. I think I've read the first Fire & Rescue book (yes, yes, I just went back through my Goodreads history and discovered that I did, a couple of years ago. Apparently, I loved the autism rep, but got immensely frustrated with other elements of the story. I might go back and continue with the series again once I've finished this one.)
That said, I really *wasn't* a fan of . It felt very much like the standard 'could have been solved by a 5-minute honest conversation' trope, but spread across the entire cast of the book, rather than just between the two main leads.
Still, it was fun, and - as mentioned above - I'll happily read more in the series.
I loved, loved Buck and Honey’s fated mates coworkers romance. It is an exciting fast paced story full of friendship, love, danger, drama, silliness, misunderstandings, and magic. As told through the minds and hearts of Buck and Holly who are real, relatable people with flaws, but who are really trying to just do their best as messy imperfect beings. Honey is a divorced HS teacher with grown children. To avoid too much free time during her summer break, she takes a job as a summer camp counselor at Camp Thunderbird. Unbeknownst to Honey, it’s a summer camp for shifters and she is unaware that shifters exist. And it’s against the rules for a non-shifter to be a counselor. Buck was not born a shifter but became one when one of his best friends bit him to save his life. He is struggling with his inner animal when he reluctantly agrees to be a camp counselor. Buck recognizes Holly as his mate right away but refuses to even think about that. The two follow the twisting road to their HEA while continuing to deal with their own issues, corral a gaggle of shifter children, hide that Honey is not really a shifter, and deal with shifter politics. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, and all the heart squeezing love. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
Buck Frazer, a former Marine, retired firefighter who just wanted to enjoy his retirement but all that changed during a life and dead battle to save world when he got a second chance at life. He never asked to be turned into a shifter, he'd always known about the supernatural beings thanks to his family's legacy.
Now he was part of that said legacy, his inner animal kept dragging him to the camp his nephew Zephyr opened for shifters kids. He reluctantly took a job as counselor to help his nephew out. He never realized how much his life would change until he met his mate...Honey.
Honey teacher who decided to take a job as a counselor at a summer camp cause she didn't want to spend two months doing nothing. She never expected that her life would change so drastically. She met the man of her dreams, fell in love with the children in her pack and she got to meet some amazing people.
Loved how Buck found his HEA even though he was fighting the mate bond every step of the way. It was great to see the squad of Mountain Hotshots make an appearance.
STORMWOLF SUMMER is the first book in Zoe Chant's newest series, SHIFTER CUB CAMP. It was intriguing, fun and a fantastic read. Zoe Chant did a mind-blowing job. Looking forward to more in this series.
****I received this book, without any obligation to review.****
some stories are epic, or have deep meaning. Some are great must reads. Not all are those must haves. Few are classic for the ages. A good book is one that can take you away from yourself give you a break or time out forget the hassle or stress. A good fun read is needed for that. is it amusing or charming can like or care about the characters? while most plots are set meet have issues deal with and resolve. So all storyline is predictable but how do they meet what issues how do they deal with those issues? are characters real or just a outline. Helen Kestrel created an environment and characters so you like to see where it goes so you are lost in story in this she created fun. while the main characters she the focus at times support characters stole the scene so that I'm so looking forward to future books in this series to see who might show up how they might develop evolve or what their back story is. And the epilog has me expecting to enjoy the next book. yes the genre hS many authors many are repetitive I have my top must read books as this is the first Helen Krstrel I've read unless I read a Zoe Chant one I would say the potential to become must read author is there. I hoping that happens but when your waiting for you authors list to have next book and looking and all the many options of books to enjoy passing time with then I recommend adding this book to that list.
Ok just thinking about this, even as a full human, I'd do anything to attend and I never wanted to go as a kid. Haha to make friends who had the ability to change? Heck yeah!! I've been craving Buck's story for ages and I'm so glad it finally arrived!!! Estelle won my heart more than her parents did haha!! If you know, you know. You don't have to have read Wildfire series, but it would help you to really get to know Buck. He's been a human who who has known after shifters and was even the boss of the parents of a few of the kiddos you meet at camp. He was always exasperated at the random weirdness that came from the crew around him but it added to his character. He's like the grumpy uncle that claims he doesn't want to be there, and was only there against his will, but if you threatened his family, he's after you. He was bit by a Hellhound and turned into a mother loving shifter himself. The denial game is strong. Honey is looking for a distraction from life and summer camp seemed to be a great idea. She becomes a great influence to all the campers but can she survive the mini matchmakers who believe she and Buck would be perfect for one another. There were moments that made me crack up laughing. I wish I could share, but spoilers. I can't wait for the next story!!!
Buck former supervisor of the Wildfire Shifters has been turned into a hellhound with a twist and is not happy about it. He is even less happy when he has to take over a camp counselor! But then he meets his co-counselor, Honey. She is everything a wolf would want, so of course the contrary man has to deny it. But he has a bunch of pint-sized matchmakers who are bound and determined to help him fall for his mate! There are a ton of twists and turns in this introduction to this new series. Some of the camp kids are the children of his Wildfire Shifter Crew! I loved seeing all this come together. Honey was a sweetheart, but she should have taken a big stick to Buck's head to force him to see things earlier!
The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain with a character oriented storyline that has some steamy scenes and some different kinda of action. The characters are vibrant and engaging, including the kids. I can't wait to see what happens next! If you want the whole story, read the Fire and Rescue Shifters series in order first and then the Wildfire Shifters series in order before this one! However, you will still really enjoy this if you haven't read the others. There were many spots that made me laugh out loud!
I was so excited to find out Buck would get his own story. It was a long wait but soo worth it. I was laughing from the very first page. I wouldn't say it's necessary to read the previous series, but I do recommend it. It was an amazing series. Buck never expected to be a 'motherloving shifter'. He and his animal are not in sync. When he 'accepts' (was guilted into) a position of camp counselor, things take an unexpected turn. Honey, looking for a change. Spending the summer at a camp for kids seems like a great idea. What she doesn't know is these are all shifter kids. She didn't even know they existed. Buck and Honey are paired up and get off to a pretty rocky start. For the sake of the kids, they learn to work together. This book was hilarious. The kids were adorable with their antics when it comes to the couple. Seeing some favorite characters from the Wildfire books was great. The things that came out of Buck's mouth were just priceless. Being the first in a new series, we meet a lot of new characters and catch up with old ones. A must read and another hit for this author. I received an early copy and this is my honest opinion.
Giving this book 4 stars BECAUSE OF THE KIDS, THE CHILDREN, THE LITTLE RUGRATS. the romance itself ....iffy.
What I really enjoyed was reading about a shifter summer camp where kids are plotting to help their counselors fall in love, I liked Archie more than I liked Buck because as a man who's in his 50's he's so immature. Even after expressing romantic interest in Honey and having plans to move back to her place he chooses not to tell her she's his mate, for no good reason. And he didn't grovel enough after it was found out
Also...... if buck is genetically related to a thunderbird, it would explain why he has wings in his hellhound form... why does honey have wings ? Why is she gold ? Its not a bit deal but it did stand out to me.
The children were refreshing and smart and made me giggle out loud a few times but if you want passion or real romance this is like a weak flame.
I think this would make a great family movie tbh, just take out the spicy scenes which was unneeded. Idk they felt weird in there. Which goes against everything I stand for these days but my eyes glazed over when they did anything other than kiss.

Well where do I start, first of all I could hardly put it down and that's obvious because I started earlier today well yesterday technically it's nearly 3 AM and I have to be at work in under 8 hours. The books amazing bringing back favored characters from the wild fire crew series and letting us meet some people we haven't before. Ragvald is hilarious. I enjoyed seeing buck again and the world through his eyes as well as Honey's and her maiden name geeze not that it's not plausible or even probable theirs someone with that name but man I laughed. The kids are great Archie is something else. And all in all the story made me smile I was nearly in tears at one point as well. If you haven't already read the shifters fire and rescue or Wildfire series you should definitely do so before beginning this book as major spoilers are included especially for (firefighter Griffen, Firefighter Unicorn, Wild Fire SeaDragon, wildfire Phenix and Wild Fire Hellhound.) 5 stars a great read from a favorite author.
If you need a fated-mates romance that’ll make you swoon and laugh, this is the book for you!
I was immediately hooked into the story and all the new characters, as I was when I started the first Fire & Rescue series. Zoe makes it so easy to fall in love with the characters.
For most of the story, Buck is a stubborn ASS 😝 and refuses to accept the part of him that is now a shifter, since he has only recently been turned. Eventually he comes around with the help of Ragvald, who is currently battling Conleth for the place as my favorite character.
I loved the found-family vibe, especially for the kids. They were such a great party of the story, and I’m excited to see more of them soon! (Yes, even Ignatius who was a jerk at the beginning).
I cannot wait for book 2! Zoe, please! I hope we don’t have to wait for too long 🙏
Waited Avery very long time for this book, great story if not a great too,ugh angsty for grown midlife adults but hey, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE KIDS, CONSTANT TEASING, BICKERING, AND JOKES they were so realistic I felt like I was there. I’m upset Fenrir DID NOT GIVE HONEY HER PACK NAME.. “she knows what it is” really? That just burns me! Cop out! GIVE US HER PACK NAME ZOE! WHAT “sweat B!t@h” and a cause her name is Honey Bunch btw Honey as a first name I get But who has the last name ..BUNCH? come on. Have you written so many books that you ran out of good names? Come on I fell like Brad Pitt screaming WHATS IN THE BOX? instead I’m screaming .. “WHAT WAS HER PACK NAME?” Fenrir always gave the Mates a suitable clever Pack name. And Zoe decided we didn’t need to bother knowing Honey’s
So cute- the kids at camp added an element of whimsy and fun. Their machinations were completely believable.
FMC, Honey, applies to be a camp counselor at a remote Montana camp.
MMC, Buck, recently retired from fire fighting, gets blackmailed into being a counselor by his nephew.
Turns out it's a camp for shifters. Honey had no idea. And Buck is mad because he was a "plain human" until he was ill and one of his crew, a wolfhound, bit him to turn him and save his life. He hasn't mastered shifting and still wants to pretend his animal isn't part of him. Except he recognizes Honey as his mate when they are introduced.
The main camp benefactor has a strict policy of no humans, so many people conspire to keep Honey there.
He drops off his nephew hoping that he will learn to dragon shift while at camp.

When this Zoe started this series years ago with the first crew, I waited with baited breath for every release. Then the next set came out and I patiently waited for the series to be fully written. Then the next one...you get the point. I am never unsatisfied with them. This...this was even more satisfying then the long awaited Fenrir story. So could I give more stars than 5. Absofreakinglutely! I am excited to see Buck get his story. Even more excited to hear the series will continue.
For me, 5 stars means I will happily read this again. I wait again for the next in the series, happily, but highly impatient. Thank you, Zoe! May the passion of writing this series and hopefully the kids series as they grow up continue on and on!
Completely different from any paranormal book I've read. Buck was a complete treat. A grumpy shifter, who constantly complains about shifters, because he never asked to be made into one. His animal constantly fights with him, and he never knows when he will wake up naked, on the roofs of the camp buildings. Honey, has a really unique name, that was cute for a child, but hard to have to constantly explain to adults around her. She finally embraces it, even taking back after her divorce. How the story brings you along, learning about the kids, and the many important clans, and royal lines, makes it really a fun trip. I loved Buck, and Honeys journey to accept each other, and Bucks acceptance of his powerful animal. Won happy ending.
Honey applied to work at a summer camp just to have something for the summer. She a teacher and needed a change and something to keep her busy for the summer. Buck is having a hard time coming to grips with his new inter animal. He’s not happy to have one but it was the only way to save him life. Now he has been talked into becoming a counselor at the camp. But thing get more difficult after he meets Honey because his inter animal now’s she his mate even if she’s human. But this may cause a problem for the camp because this is a shifter summer camp and humans aren’t to know about shifters. So see what the kid in their group do to being these two together. So enjoy the read!!
He is a new-ish shifter trying to control his relatively new animal. She is a teacher looking to fill her summer break by being a summer camp councillor. When they meet, he realises she is his fated mate, but because of his issues with being a shifter, he rejects her straight away. Because she’s a human this doesn’t mean a lot to her. And so begins a funny journey of their summer overseeing a group of shifter children looking to cause trouble however they can. This book was very funny in quite a few places and an enjoyable read all the way through. Some of their early interactions had me cackling like an idiot.
I loved Buck in the prior series so I squealed and hurriedly borrowed this book once it came out. It was a wonderful start to the series, full of laughs and new characters. I did think that there were moments when the story dragged a little, what with Buck fighting his animal but his and Honey’s interactions, as well as the interactions with what are going to likely be the next generation of stories were funny and at times emotional. A sweet story overall.
Holy shit!!!! Honey is just a reg woman but she stumbled into sumthing she was surprised about it and also starting wanting 2 b like 1 of them. will things go her way or will it like her past with her ex husband? She starts 2 really understand and love the kids she has 2 take care of. I sooooo love Archie!! He's2 adorable!! And I sooooo can't believe the epilogue!! I tried reading it slowly on purpose this x 2 really get 2 know what happened and what will happen in the future. I loved it!! I sooooo can't wait 4 the next book!!
I loved reading a book that was focused on shifters who weren't in their teens or twenties. Buck and Honey we're great. Buck was definitely a grump because he was a lovable grump. I just adored how sweet Honey was with the kids and the awe she had learning about the shifters and the kids/campers. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Ragvald. Everyone was a gem.
The story flowed very well and the kids were pretty funny. I loved the dynamics of everything. This was my first Zoe Chant book, but I don't think it'll be my last.
We are jumping generations once again. I feel like I missed a book to not know Buck was bitten but I know I haven’t. Bucks attitude about being a shifter really irked me. He was more than happy to have shifters working for him in the past and to utilise their abilities but he sneers and demeans all of that once he becomes a shifter. And if I’m reading this correctly, it was done to save his life. A bit hypocritical. I liked Honey but wonder how her grown up children took to her new life. Read through Kindle Unlimited.
The humor in the story is fantastic. I love the banter with the kids trying to get the mates together. Buck is such a great character and has always been. With being a shifter who pretends he really isn't a shifter its perfect for his character. I love the scene with the kids seeing the mates flying in the night. Loved everything about this book a great start to this new series. Even if my mind kept thinking it was in a different location! Don't ask it just had its own setting lol!
There is a place in the story where the kids are talking about mating. I actually laughed out loud while reading this part. My husband and daughter both looked at me like I had two heads. The characters are so well developed that I could literally see the kids sitting around the art table, messing with clay talking about this while trying to figure out the problem. At the same time, Buck is over in the back of the room trying not to listen to their conversation. Great book, great story love the hotshot series so I had to know how Buck got his HEA!
