The threat of dark gods has passed. The forest is safe. The deadlands have stopped expanding.
Now, all Tess really wants is a vacation. Unfortunately for her, fate has other plans.
Quickly discovering that she's in far more danger than she ever knew, Tess will have to train, level up, and protect herself at all costs. So when an unexpected benefactor shows up with an unlikely solution to her problems, how can she refuse?
Follow Tess as she battles monsters, explores new cities, delves into dungeons, and builds up her settlement, all while meeting a strange new cast of characters along the way.
Scions of Sylum is a classic LitRPG novel with character levels, classes, and stats, ideal for existing fans of the genre and newcomers alike.
I enjoyed the first book, but this one was just kind of boring. There wasn’t much in the way of antagonists or a mission or adventure for the characters. They just went to school, trained a bit, went in a dungeon, etc. The characters didn’t develop in any major or interesting way. Not a bad book, just kind of boring.
This has some of the worst characters I have ever read about.
They are a mix of pointless, clueless, cowardly and idiotic. There is not a single one, and I mean that literally, that I enjoy reading about. The tone is meant to be sarcastic, as if the whole thing is a soap opera for the gods, but it is just boring. A boring story with useless characters.
Every now and then you (somewhat accidentally) wind up with an unexpected but absolutely amazing book. This was one for me — and I really can’t say enough good things about it. It’s funny, the characters are engaging, the System is all System-ey, and the world building is great. Plus, it is both well written and well edited, which can be a rarity these days. I’m looking forward to the next book and this one is going on my list to read again soon. Highly recommended!
As somebody that reads a lot (hundreds more books a year than I ever thought possible until I discovered Kindle Unlimited), I’ve read some really great stories and some that fell completely flat. The world building in this series is very well done (although a map of where all the cities are in relation to each other would be nice, but certainly not needed). The character development is outstanding. I get tired of reading stories of where the MC starts off overpowered and only continues to become more OP as the story progresses. Seeing that Tess, although slightly more OP than a normal human, has some of the same issues that plague most people is a refreshing change. The story has just the right amount of comedy in it to not make it overly comical, while still relieving some of the tension of the more suspenseful parts of the story. I especially loved how long it took her to pass her class trial, and all the comedic parts that came along with that.
I can’t wait to see what book 3 has in store. Will Cal get back in time to convince her father not to go to war on Tess? Will Hartha be able to control her soul magic enough to save Rock before he dies? So many questions I can’t wait to have answered. Unfortunately, I have to wait a week before I can sign up for Patreon to get the sneak peek into what’s coming next, and I feel as though it’s going to be a painfully long wait for me (patience has never been a virtue for me).
Another book I couldn’t put down and may have skipped too much work for. And maybe stayed up way to late to finish. Ah well, maybe now that I have to wait for the next one I can get some work done.
General disclaimer: I want to be clear in that I do not factor cost into any review and as such, this is simply a reflection of my enjoyment of the book and in no way reflects cost to value analysis.
Not too many mega battles here. Certainly nothing earth shifting for the world around her. The MC mostly spends her time in college and growing her skills. This is of course required as she is hopefully behind in levels and skills necessary to defender herself as a protagonist. I enjoy the book and I enjoy the protagonist. I do wish she had a little more fire unfortunately Water inclination is showing itself and I wish it would Get a little steamy. The system in the world is quite Diverse and growing more so. I particularly enjoy the class trials. It would be interesting to know what other kind of trials that other classes have and is they R. as hard or if it's dependent on the rarity of a class. I look forward to the next book.
While I like the concept of LITRPG, I've never been a huge fan of rows and rows of data in my reading. I do like reading about levels ups and what new attributes are available though.
Forgetting all of that.. I really liked the story. The plot, the characters, the humor. S.I. Waxman tells a great story. I'm laughing and thinking while I'm reading. Consider this a win. (As I'm right now almost done with book 3, I'll be copying this review to all three books.
The book is great hoping for more books I loved how the main character is progressing in the story I hope she gets some more spells along the way and loved the. Class training she was doing
I'm actually thinking of doing the Patreon to get twenty chapters of the next book, not gonna lie! I devoured this volume and am super excited for the next. Definitely going to follow this author to see more on Goodreads!
This story of a young lady taken right before death to another world was fantastic. The god of luck is her sponsor, and she needs to level up before other champions find and kill her for her experience points.
Really good! The firs on was Kinda unique the second was really good too. But this one has mad me happy I think that the author has found their stride in this one. Get ready for laughs and happiness and fun.
Peaceful? Even with the violence Sure there's a bit of struggling, and some random traumatic experiences (crazy class quest), but the majority of the book was a peaceful growth arc. Barb becomes a larger part of her life than I could have ever expected, and it's hilarious. I completely forgot that there would be concern over a couple absences, and I can only imagine how big that will end up. Hex and Aarris are funny and cute together. A pleasant and feel good read, but the end was an oops that's going to cause some issues. I am looking forward to reading more! Finished June 26. Not synced from Amazon, which is becoming a regular annoyance.
I really enjoy the Isekai LitRPG genre add in a female MC with female romantic interests and this just hits all my checkboxes for my ideal read. I read the first and second book back to back and I'm already looking forward to the third book.
