Read all 18 volumes of Red Blue in two days, and I absolutely loved it.

I’ve always found sports manga more engaging than sports in real life because fiction lets you dive into the characters, their growth, rivalries, techniques, and the intricacies of the sport. Red Blue does this brilliantly with MMA. Every fight feels different, and every new character adds something interesting to the world.

I especially loved Suzuki as a protagonist. His motivation is incredibly shallow, he basically becomes obsessed with beating Kenshin but somehow that makes him more interesting. His obsessive, almost creepy fixation slowly becoming his entire world is oddly hilarious.

The fights, choreography, art, and character perspectives are all fantastic. It gave me the same kind of obsession I felt with Slam Dunk and Haikyuu!!, which very few sports manga manage to do.

Ooh forgot to review it, so I don't totally remember all my critiques, but it's kind of just bad, to put simply. Big Mary Sue problem to start with, the other major one being a stupidly unchallenged and unrealistically unbeatable antagonist. Like it's not just that he's unbeatable, but like he learns nothing from the fights he gets into. It'll make more sense why he's supposed to if you read it, especially if you consider how much the mc has to learn from literally everyone. That said, the mc gets too good too quickly as well. What's most embarrassing is the complete lack of anyone's character development. The best friend is literally just there for exposition, thinking about the mc, and giving the reader details on mma.

This is an original take on the genre. It's refreshing reading a sports Shonen with a protagonist that is a quiet and reserved rather than loud and energetic. Aoba is an adorable protagonist and I love him. I enjoyed the sports in this manga. I've always been interested in fighting sports and this just takes the cake. Red Blue is well written I 100% recommend!

idk why this manga is so lowly rated, i had a blast reading it. y’all sleeping on this weird little spiteful dude and his ensemble of supportive maniacs. it doesn’t take itself too seriously and the pacing is genuinely great. i love me a sports manga tho so maybe i’m biased, but i lol’d multiple times and can’t wait to read more.

MC is not motivated by wanting to be stronger or protect people or save anyone, but motivated to beat up someone who is really strong solely because he’s nice and kind to everyone. Interesting context, but super fun read.

Très très bon tome 1! J’aime beaucoup trop le héros , il sors de l’ordinaire avec son air glauque! Franchement je peux relate a ses émotions plus que je ne voudrais!
Le MMA a l’air bien développé dans le manga sans pour autant être trop technique ou somnifère pour les non-initiés! Et même, a la manière des anciens mangas, ca donne mm envie de le pratiquer!
