“You started this fire, and it’s been burning for years. I’m not wasting another minute imagining what it’s like to be with you. If my leg has taught me anything, we don’t always have tomorrow. You and I have tonight, and I plan to make the most of it, chaos or not.”

Kenzie, wow your brain must be the most amazing thing on the planet!! This story started out with a BANG and I was hooked. Campbell and Quinn’s story seriously kept me guessing the entire time. I loved them together from the first interaction and their history together gave me all the feels. I’m now VERY invested in Liam and I need him to find someone other than MAGS to hang with 😜🤣 this story had EVERYTHING a suspense novel needs!! ⭐️: 4/5 🌶️: 2.5/5

This is my first book by this author and definitely not my last.

This action-packed, thrilling, military style, friends-to-lovers romance is an amazing and exciting book.

I love action-packed romances, and the combination with military topic makes it incredibly fascinating.

I haven't read the other books in the series, but I didn't have the feeling that I was missing something.
The story was well rounded and okay. Maybe if I read the other books before this story, I would have other information about other characters from this story, but I haven't had a feeling of missing anything.

This is a story about Quinn and Campbell.
The nerdy girl and the soldier.
The girl he loves from his childhood and the boy that she dreamed about every night for years.
The brother's best friend and the sister that is off limits.
The only man that ever got her attention and heart and the woman that he never thought he was worth to have.

They are like day and night, and yet they balance each other incredibly well. They just have to understand that they need each other.

But this book is not only a romance.

No, it's an action-packed, wild chase through the world in a 007/special forces style.
It's a political thriller with spies, military operations, and traitors that have to be found.
It's a wonderful story about the lives of scientists, soldiers, and politicians.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority with regard to how I felt about this book, so take it with a grain of salt. Full disclosure: This book is part of a series where there is an overarching storyline, so although each book's pair gets an HEA, there is unfinished business that remains. This book is my first in the series, and perhaps I would have liked it more if I'd read the previous novels.

The book starts off really well. I was a little disappointed with the first person, dual POV, present tense narration (not a fan), but the quick jump into action truly pulled me in. And the key tropes are my favorites: best friend's sister, friends to lovers, and romantic suspense. But then things just seemed to go nowhere. The main couple, Quinn and Cam, were tight as kids but somehow ended up not really keeping in contact. Quinn's brother Liam is the third BFF, but he too seems to have grown apart from Cam over the years. So the whole, "I'd do anything for you" thing already seems iffy.

But okay, yay, the Three Musketeers are back together. Unfortunately, they're at the heart of some giant conspiracy and are both running for their lives and trying to figure out the truth.

Quinn and Liam are supposedly super genius scientists, but they act like unruly teens at best and actually don't seem all that smart. I mean, Quinn is surprised when it's pointed out that her and Liam's AI nuclear weapon thing could be used for evil as well as good.

Cam is a former MI-6 special ops-turned private security (or something) dude who seems kind of bad at running his own op. Burner phone after burner phone, wigs and hats... it all seems campy. Plus they keep getting found.

Quinn and Cam both had what they thought were unrequited feelings for each other, which is not an uncommon thing in friends to lovers, but when they finally reunite, there's no unfurling of feelings or joyful aha moments. Quinn just suddenly comes on to Cam and then they start attacking each other at every opportunity.

The plot is also confusing, though part of that could be because I was skimming toward the end just to finish. But it all kinda jumped the shark when they started cloning the cloned cloned phones.

I love a smart romantic suspense, and the author clearly made an effort. But for me, it was just chunky and clunky and not worth the time I spent on it, sorry.

I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley.I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

Thank you to Kenzie Macallan, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of Risk: A Romantic Military Suspense Novel for me to read and review. What a great story! This story kept me on my toes! It is filled with action, suspense, mystery, romance, and some spice. This was a new to me author with a writing and plot style that really reminded me of Kat Martin and I loved every page! The character personalities were written excellently with the character development and growth being so closely tied to the plot. This was one of those books I was just itching to pick back up in the moments I wasn't able to be reading. I can't wait to go back and read the other books in the series as well as Macallan's other previous books! Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a fast paced romantic, suspenseful adventure.

Risk is my first Kenzie Macallan book, so I was going in kind of blind. But, it sounded like it was right up my alley-romantic suspense, espionage, and special ops.

Quinn is a brilliant scientist who, with her brother, has been working on a super secret AI weapons project. The danger of someone finding out and attempting to steal it is legitimate and there are all kinds of protocols in place to prepare of this. The book opens with the need to employ them and jumps right in to the suspense. Cam works for a special group and has had a secret crush on Quinn since they were kids. Now, he is determined to help her!  So, the plot is pretty far fetched, so if you want a realistic suspense, this isn't it. I enjoyed the story despite this. I was a bit lost at some reference to previous events, and apparently the bad guys are in each previous books (different actual bad guys but same bad guy group). Overall, Risk was a suspenseful escape read that was interesting and enjoyable.

  POV: dual 1st
  Tears: no
  Trope: friends-to-lovers, ex-military
  Triggers:
Series/Standalone: standalone within an interconnected series (There were a few times I was kind of confused)
  Cliffhanger:
  HEA:

authors like Cynthia Eden, JD Robb, or Sawyer Bennett's Jameson Force Security series...then you will probably like Risk!

Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum better look out, because if this crafty storyteller ever decided to publish adult fiction, she would take the political thriller genre by storm! I won’t even try to give you a synopsis on this because it's so intricate and convoluted.

Just know it involves state secrets, artificial intelligence, and weaponry, and it's freaking scary. If you don’t think there are bad players with nefarious intent in positions of power who care nothing about the general population, this story will make a believer out of you.

Quinn and Liam Donovan, sister and brother, are the two genius minds behind a much-coveted AI system who work in separate facilities for security purposes. When Quinn's facility is attacked, she sends a Hail Mary message to their childhood friend, security specialist Campbell Creighton. Then the race is on for Cam and his team to rescue Quinn.

Those details barely scratch the surface. What follows is a cat and mouse game, with Cam and Quinn trying to stay one step ahead of everyone else while they try to find out who's behind the efforts to steal the AI program.

This is my first romance from this writer, and while it was a little bit of a slow start for me, but in the next moment it was all I could do to hang on for the ride. It went from zero to sixty in the blink of an eye, and I couldn’t read fast enough to see how everything would turn out. Honestly, I’m in awe of the kind of mind that can conceive so many moving parts and keep every little detail straight, but this talented storyteller pulled it off seamlessly.

With high-octane suspense, adrenaline-fueled drama, and a sweet friends-to-lovers romance, this is by far the best romantic suspense I’ve ever read. Run to the 1-Click, buckle in tight, and hold on for the ride of your life!

I received Risk in return for an honest review from the author.

Quinn and her brother have created a weapon that could change the world but everyone is out to get it. When forced to run she finds herself right in Campbell's path and he's going to be the one to protect her as they try to get ahold of her brother and find out who's after her software. The attraction they have for each other is quickly heating as are the guys after her. Will they be able to save the day before things spiral out of control and clear her brothers name?

I love Quinn she's adorable you can't help liking her right from the start. She' strong and determined this time to not let Campbell get away again. Campbell is the perfect hero to save the day and the steamy connection between them is undeniable. I love the chemistry between Quinn and Campbell they are sizzling even when her brother is asleep in the bed next to them.

I really enjoyed the characters they are easy to connect with you can't help falling in love with Quinn and Campbell. I absolutely loved that Campbell has a disability it just makes him feel more real. The story keep me on my toes till the very end I couldn't wait to see how it would all play out. I really enjoyed the authors story telling it just flows along so well it was easy to get lost within the story.

This is my first book by the author and I devoured it in one afternoon the story is filled with action, adventure and just the right amount of steamy parts that kept the story flowing perfectly.I haven't read the other books but I enjoyed getting to see a little of the other characters in the books and I'm curious to read their stories. Risk is a captivating story that holds you attention to the very last page. I'm looking forward to reading more books from the author.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, and am writing this review voluntarily.

Risk is a novel that brings suspense in the classic form of scientists creating a top-secret AI program intending to save lives, only to have other parties try to steal and use that device for their gain. With enemies just one step behind them, and one step closer to getting their hands on the program, our heroes must race to uncover who is behind the attack on the lab and who is betraying them from within.

What initially caught my interest at the beginning of the book was the idea that Quinn and Liam were creating an AI that could do more than what we (the general public in the real world) initially thought AI could do/could be used for. It's both an interesting and spine-chilling thought, to be honest.

I also enjoyed the dynamic between the characters, specifically between the three musketeers, even though the camaraderie between the MI6 team gave me a few chuckle-out-loud moments. With that being said though, there were two minor speedbumps that I encountered in the first half of the book that kind of slowed down the reading process.

- Quinn and Cam's relationship felt like it was happening very fast (almost instant attraction despite the history) given the circumstances
- The info dumping/reiterating how smart the Donovan siblings are. (more so in the first half of the book, not a problem afterwards)

Aside from those minor speedbumps, I still enjoyed the book and would recommend giving it a try.

I was offered an early ARC read of this book for my honest review. I obviously gave this a 4, but my initial reaction was a 3. However, I say that because I have never read her books before and this one is apparently one in the middle of a series and I suppose I didn’t realize that before hand. So I’m going with 4 to give some benefit of the doubt :)

This story is a political romance, in which Quinn and her brother have created a top secret project to help with wars. They have people wanting to come for said project and their childhood best friend, Cam, is called on to help them when Liam goes missing.

I really did enjoy how this was written to be slightly suspenseful and keep your interest. My only downfall was that I personally would have liked some parts to be more detailed in scenes. Also, some things just felt rushed and not flowing together. But again, I wonder if that’s because I haven’t read the others in the series.

I love the chemistry between Cam and Quinn, the childhood best friend story line is so fun and I thought it was done well. The story itself was was fun yet intense, wondering what was going to happen next and who was behind all the drama with Liam going off radar.

So in general, I would definitely recommend this book, but after starting from the beginning. So I apologize to the author for not realizing my mistake and signing up for an ARC but I hope fellow readers will give this series a chance! I am definitely going to check it out from the start.

I can’t say enough about how great this book was! You have three best friends who grew up together in Scotland and they drifted apart as they got older. They never forgot each other and the unbreakable friendship they have. When Quinn is in danger and needs help she calls on the only person she can rely on other than her brother who has gone missing. Cam never expected to get a call from Quinn and it end up with her being taken while they are talking. Cam has always loved Quinn but held back his true feelings. Those feelings are now in full force with her being in danger and he is no longer holding them back. Will she return those feelings while they try to stay alive? This is a fast paced action romance that I couldn’t put down! I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This series just gets better and better, and it was a no brainer putting this thrilling book on my top reads list.
The author keeps you on your toes with non stop action from cover to cover.
I couldn't put it down once starting.
This couple brought out the best in each other, once they stopped letting their tragic pasts get in the way.
I hope the three amigos band together again in the future, as they were hilarious to watch as well as getting epic results.
The technology stuff within the pages is mind boggling and scary if you think too hard on it.
So it makes me wonder what on earth the author will come up with next in the teams plight to dismantle Deep 8 once and for all.
I can't wait to find out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟

This was my first book in this series and also by this author, will not be my last.

Quinn and her brother Liam are working on an extremely highly classified sensitive project for the US government, when they least expect it their project has been compromised what they don’t expect is for someone close to be involved.

Campbell has received a new mission. When he realizes his closest friends are in danger he will do everything and anything to save them.

Lots of twists and turns, full of suspense, and a nice mix of Campbell’s humor. Looking forward to the next one.

My first book from this author and with Risk, Kenzie Macallan has woven an intricate tale involving international espionage, AI nuclear weapons, treason and treachery and a missing scientist, Quinn Donovan who has childhood ties to Campbell Creighton, a special ops agent she managed to send out an SOS to minutes before she was kidnapped. This story starts with a bang and doesn’t let up for a second in this rollercoaster of a read. All Campbell has to do was rescue the girl and save the world, finding the villains responsible in the process. It sounds easy but who can he trust when it appears that even the highest level of government isnt safe from infiltration?

I enjoyed the friends to lovers scenario between Quinn and Campbell although if I’m being completely honest it felt slightly lacking in any chemistry and a bit one sided with only Campbell appearing to show any real emotion while Quinn was just a little too pragmatic especially when she found out about his leg. She seemed more interested in the working of his prosthetic rather than the man she’s purported to love was nearly killed. The overall story though made up for my slight disappointment in the romance element and kept me engrossed from the start and I loved the strong group dynamics between Campbell and his fellow team-mates especially the thread of humour running between them in their interactions.

This book is billed as a standalone and while I don’t believe that there were any spoilers for the earlier books, I do feel that since the nefarious group Deep 8 seems to be a recurring threat throughout the series I might’ve had a better understanding of exactly who they are and what their intentions are. I don’t think that was really covered in any real depth here so they’re still a bit of a mystery.

Kenzie Macallan, a new writer and a new read on my list. Heading into her Deep 8 series way down the list to her fourth book “Risk”, with Campbell Creighton laying down his life for his Quinn Donovan.

With AI being the hot topic of the current world, Kenzie weaves an intriguing story around this very concept, and if we are talking about AI, then politics, conspiracies, power, money and betrayal are not far behind. With technology outspacing humans, it’s a power struggle for survival of the fastest and the richest!

Genius brother and sister duo, Liam and Quin are working on an AI nuclear weapon in a top secret location that is compromised. With her brother MIA, Quinn reaches out to her trusted friend and security specialist, Campbell Creighton for help before being kidnapped. The burden of rescue now falls on Cam and his team of special operatives, to thwart whatever the political and power plan was set in operation. And Cam will need his head in the game, if he wants to protect his heart and life, Quinn to bring her back safely.

A fairly new Indie writer in my opinion, “Risk” starts off a bit slow but gets going as we get into the fifth chapter and onwards. She has the imagination and the forte to narrate a story with a genuine plot, keeping the flow of the story interesting and making sure the chemistry among the characters is strong enough to carry the storyline.

Kenzie Macallan is an author to look out for and she’s caught enough of my attention to add her to my list.

Holy crap on a cracker!!! What a rollercoaster ride Risk takes you on, and I was on the edge of my seat from page 1 right to the end!! This is the 4th book in this series but I have only read one other and I had no problem following what was going on, sure I do like to read books in order and I will go back and start at the beginning. I loved this book, and Quinn and Cam and the history they have together brought them back together along with her brother Liam. They need protection because of something they are creating and everyone wants it, and in the wrong hands could be catastrophic!! They don't know who to trust, and until they find out who is after them they are on the run. I never saw what was coming at the end, other than Quinn and Cam would obviously end up together...the rest was a surprise. That is all I'm going to say about this book other than y'all need to read it!!! Thank you Kenzie for writing such an awemazing story, and for the opportunity to read early. Can't wait to see what's in store next, hoping there is more coming!!

Fabulous Romantic Suspense!!

Brother and sister duo, Quinn and Liam, are brilliant technologically and on a project which may change the world. This means they are garnering much attention from the “bad guys”. When Quinn is taken from her lab, which would be impenetrable, it becomes apparent there is a mole.

Campbell was their best friend since childhood. He has been attracted to Quinn but never acted on it. Now that she leaves him a message prior to being taken, all bets are off. MBK Global Security is on the hunt, and Campbell is determined to see to her safety, personally.

Politics, betrayal, high-tech, AI and a romance which is a long time coming. A delightful array of “dad” jokes / puns break the tension as they work to finish their project and keep it out of the wrong hands.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one!

The level of suspense and intrigue just builds like a rollercoaster going up and up until it just runs wild. The story started off a little slow for me as I had not read any books by this author before, so none of the characters or developed world was familiar.

This book was extremely entertaining and enjoyable. I loved how close Quinn and her brother Liam were to each other and their friendship with Campbell (Cam). His past injury is something he is still dealing with and both her and Quinn have emotional hurts that prevent them from trusting in themselves or others.

The romance between Quinn and Cam was something both of them had longed for but never thought possible to ever happen. It was fun to watch these two become closer as the suspense around the MAGS drama intensified.

I received a free ARC from the author and Hidden Gems; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

When Campbell gets a message from Quinn, a woman he has loved since they were kids, nothing will stop him from rescuing her. Her brother Liam, who happens to be BF with Campbell is in trouble as well and it will be a game of cat and mouse between many players as the good guys and bad want the two genius siblings for themselves. But all is not what it seems to be and it will take trust between these three to make it out alive.
A good read with suspense, surprises, twists and turns, steam and good characters. Campbell and Quinn had a few issues to work through and I liked that there was no over the top drama while getting through them. There was an ick factor with their mom for me, when she said….for the first time since your father, I felt cared for….considering all that happened before and to say that…icky for me. Other wise it was a good read that kept me on my toes and I enjoyed all the twists and turns.

WOW what a story if you didn't believe that things in the world where corrupt and that AI could be scary if used the wrong way then read this book and you will be terrified After saying that it is at heart a romantic suspense with lots in the romance department. While it can be read as a stand alone it is a far better rad if read in the context of the series.

This is the story of Quinn Donovan her and her brother Liam are the geniuses behind the AI technology that everyone wants to keep them safe they always work in different labs when Quinn's lab is attacked she calls on her brothers friend Campbell Creighton. Can Campbell get to her in time can they find out who is behind the raid all while falling in love You will have to read to see but be warned this is one book that once you start it you won't want to put it own so you could have a sleepless night ahead of you

A bit convoluted and with so many players, it was a little difficult to follow for a newbie to her series, Risk was, nevertheless, a fun story. Campbell was a great character - a bit scarred, a hero complex who has loved Quinn, a brilliant scientist, since they were children. Quinn and her brother have developed a program that will end wars if used correctly and annihilate everyone who is in the path if used for nefarious reasons. The story starts with a bang as Quinn is kidnapped and she manages to get through to Campbell and saved. And then, they need to find the culprit who is hunting her and her brother. Campbell is part of a group of security specialists (and I have to admit, this story has made me curious about the series as a whole so good job there!) and through twists and turns, we get a happily for now. Fun, exciting with really nice romance.

Note: This is a book series but CAN be read as a standalone.

A compelling 4-star adventure in Kenzie Macallan's Deep 8 series.

Campbell Creighton, a former MI-6 agent, faces a perilous mission when his childhood friend, nuclear physicist Dr. Quinn Donovan, becomes entangled in a dangerous plot involving an AI nuclear weapon.

The story unfolds with high-stakes political intrigue, deadly espionage, and a rekindled romance between Campbell and Quinn.

As they navigate a treacherous world, the narrative weaves together edge-of-your-seat action, thrilling romance, and characters worth rooting for. 'RISK' is a captivating and heart-pounding addition to the series, offering an enthralling journey of survival and love.

Overall, this story had a lot of potential. I loved the idea of what was going to happen and I think that the plot was exciting. The writing style was where I struggled a bit. I felt the author spent a lot of time telling instead of showing what would happen. Some of the dialogue was clunky because it was used a s a way to describe what happened instead of a conversation between two people.

I did enjoy Cam and Quinn as characters. They each were flawed and real and they navigated their issues in a very realistic way. I think their relationship was okay, but I didn't feel as much tension as I would have liked. I think the build up could have been better and the moment they came together wasn't as special as I think they deserved.

Risk, Book 4 in the Deep 8 Series by Kenzie Macallan

This is my first book by this author and definitely not my last, I didn’t feel I missed anything as I haven’t yet read the other books in this series.

Campbell and Quinn’s story is action packed and the drama and intrigue starts right from the get go and continues throughout. Soon Campbell and the team are battling against spies, traitors, IA, and politicians in order to save Quinn and the state of the art tech her and her brother Liam are working on. As Campbell and Quinn work towards their well earned HEA, their witty back and forth banter and romance that has been years in the making only adds to the overall success of the book.

Fantastic Romance Suspense story.

Quinn is developing a AI nuclear weapon with her brother Liam. As the word gets out the evil in the world comes knocking. Campbell works with a group of ex-special ops from MI-6 to Navy Seals. The team got a video of Quinn being taken. Campbell is best friends with Liam and years ago he had a thing for Quinn. He doesn’t think he is worthy of Quinn because of the loss of his leg. As Campbell follows the clues to find Quinn the old feelings he had for Quinn are coming back. Will Campbell be able to get Quinn back? Will Quinn reciprocate Campbell’s feelings? Will Campbell and Quinn find love and happiness together?

Liam and her sister Quinn are scientists who have developed a system called MAGS which can be very helpful but in the wrong hands, it can be a deadly weapon.
Campbell feels a little insecure when he is solo on a mission as he doesn’t trust his fake leg. His new mission consists of keeping safe his two friends Liam and Quinn and preventing MAGS from getting into the hands of a terrorist group called Deep 8.
The story is a quick ride through all the adventures these three friends live, full of mystery, suspense and action without limits. From the very first page to the last one, you hold your breath and keep reading without stopping. A very entertaining story.

This story was constant heat! Whether it was from the action on the streets, or between the sheets! Dr. Quinn Donovan is a very smart woman who isn't afraid to defend her ground and is loyal to a fault. Campbell Creighton, in all his glory, is the best hero a girl could have! This was an action packed story, constantly on the run, these childhood friends, the forced proximity and fire these two shared was very spicy!

This story had you rooting for them the whole time, after starting with a bang, it doesn't let up!

This story is a part of a series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone!

Quinn is smart. She is calm and confident most of the time. I like that she is so determined. I love that she knows what she wants and works toward those goals. I love that she protects her heart. I love her faith in Campbell and also her brother. I love that she has the forethought to think before she speaks or acts, most times, even when she is antagonistic on purpose. I love Campbell. I love his skills and his initiative. I love that he works through his certainty about his failures. I love his faith in his friends, especially Quinn. I love the team. I love the action and the suspense. I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
