Welcome to Hell on Earth. Welcome to the Upgrade Apocalypse!
Warning: This book contains apocalyptic adventures, creative cursing, jokes about the apocalypse, an interesting card skill system, horror monsters to fight or flee from, and character deaths when they fail their save throws.
This is the second book in The Upgrade Apocalypse series and both books managed to release at just the right times to prevent me from just sitting down and binge reading them in one sitting like I would prefer to so I could review them sooner. I initially picked up an audible copy of this as I know the cast does fantastic work but I almost immediately switched and got it from KU with the intent to buy it next month due to a current bug with Audible for Android not working right. So this review is for the ebook edition.

Overall it's a great continuation to the story, back to back struggles continue. The pacing stands out to me compared to many series in the genre where they have moved onto empire building by the end of the second book but this series is more like joining an established anarchy server on hard mode. The slight soap opera feel of the characters from the first book is gone in this one and there feels like slightly less banter between them for one reason or another. The book has references from everything including obscure fantasy both children's and adults to cult sci-fi like Farscape (Don't think that single use of Frell escaped me.) The new characters and companions introduced are entertaining and entertaining to read about. I do kind of wish we got more from what's going on in one particular characters point of view because more time has passed for them and we get to hear some of what went on from him during that time afterwards but not the details. Lucy is still my favorite character though. Anyways in summery I enjoyed the book, if you liked the first one you will like this one. If you like either of the two authors previous works you will enjoy this.
This series continues to surprise me. It manages to bring some fresh perspective and new ideas to the LitRPG genre. While it had 1-2 MC there are several very strong team members. Overall the characters are not over powered, there is lots of struggle and death that gets close and personal. One of the darker series, but well worth it. Looking forward to the third installment here soon.
The Upgrade Apocalypse book 2 is a great continuation of the story. We see bases get destroyed, bases get established, new friends are made, and we find out that one bad guy may not be as bad as we thought. (I call BS on that one.) Recommended for most LitRPG fans.
Cannot wait for the next book to be released! Such likeable characters! Love Chip, the lizardmen, and each party member. I find myself in tears over each lost member, giggling at the funny parts and even chuckling at the references to " daughter of Archimedes"! Looking forward to the next book! Recommend!
The book is tolerable if you skip about 40% and skim another 20-30% of it. You're not missing anything. If food, it'd be gas station food that went bad.
