The author has grown since her first novella, Beautifully Irate, published just a few months before this book. Another story full of nonstop action, this time from the life of a 14-year-old who lives a rollercoaster life. Full of cliches and stereotypes, of course, that’s exactly what we come to shorter stories for. We want to go through all of the feels quickly, and if we can do it through a lifetime instead of a timeframe of maybe a year, even better. A good, fast read for a break from binging TV shows.
Along with the author's first novella, this book (novella) also showcases her ability to truly tell a story. The book begins with Rose, a struggling minor that endures mental and physical trauma. The hard path leads Rose to Kristian, another broken soul. This story is about the strength these two characters discover within themselves, one another, and through God. It highlights the struggles of many teenagers today and provides hope.
