Jewelz Baxter's The Darby Crime Family, from her Mayhem Makers series first book is Kiss Of Power. I have read some of Jewelz Baxter's books in the past and liked them a lot so I thought I would this one too but not so much. It was a bit of a letdown for me once I was finished it.
This book is about Ellis Darby, the head of the Darby Crime family and his neighbor Arabella Bartel who he's watched grow up into a woman and now wants her. Arabella doesn't like Ellis even threatening him to stay off of her property. But Ellis makes a deal with her dad to save their farm because they have fallen on hard times. That deal included Arabella move into Ellis mansion next door. Arabella's dad told her she was just going to "help out" at Ellis' and then would be home but that was never Ellis' intention. And with the age-gap between them in parts you could tell Arabella was young cause of how she acted. And Ellis was like an empty shell. The best part of the book came at the end when Ellis took Arabella's to the MMM book signing event. It made her realize her true feeling for him and I think that's a good thing considering what he was having done while he let the even occupy her. I'll let you read to see what that was.
I gave this book a 2-star rating and 2-spicy rating. I just couldn't connect with Ellis at all through the book. He was way to closed off. Arabella I didn't really learn much about except for the basics. To me this book had the potential to be great it just didn't hit the mark for me.

This is a brand new author for us and we have to say that we really enjoyed Ellis and Arabella's story. The author took you on an emotional roller coaster ride when it comes to emotions one minute you felt like crying and the next laughing out loud. The author made it easy to fall in love with Ellis and Arabella's characters. Love when you read about characters who start out at the beginning that seem to be complete opposites or you couldn't see them as a couple but, the author surprises you by making them just perfect for one another and that is just what happens with Arabella and Ellis.
Overall we thought this story was great and suspenseful and one that kept you on the seat of your pants. The couple had great chemistry and we love when you feel that from the characters it definitely adds spice to the story. Arabella is a character who is strong and fierce and definitely never made things easy for the man considering how they started out but, sometimes love is found in the most unusual circumstance and sometimes you just have to embrace those curveballs life throws at you. I would definitely check out other books by this author as our first read from them was a hit in our book as this story had everything we love in a story. Well done.

Jewelz is another Mayhem Makers series new to me author and I can’t wait to read more. This book was full of emotional ups and downs, danger, suspense, love & hate, alpha males, sassy & feisty FMC, and a whole lot more. I thought the author did a phenomenal job creating the storyline to this and giving it a Beauty & The Beast Retelling twist to it. The characters were well written and perfectly paired.
Ellis is the head of his powerful crime family, Arabella is the girl next door with dreams and aspirations. Ellis is the type of man that what he wants he gets and he has set his sights on Arabella. The back and forth push and pull between these two is intense with hate at the start but progresses to more as they progress in the story together. It’s definitely a story that will keep you hooked and wanting to know what happens next.
You’ll get all the emotional feels with Ellis and Arabella’s story. It’s intense and addictive. Definitely look forward to reading more in this new series by this author and to reading more of her books. Definitely a book I’d recommend!!

Elias is the powerful head of his family, and the sky's the limit when it comes to getting what he wants. Arabella is a girl who marches to the best of her own drum (her pet choice had me rolling), and she lives her life. Elias has decided that he wants Arabella, so he takes her without her permission, and I was happy to see she gave him a run for his money while under his roof. Please understand that he didn't want her for any sort of love but other things, and I spent some time filled with anxiety waiting to see if that ever got out, however, he never counted on things going so sideways after getting a taste of her. On top of their journey filled with heat & chaos, there's also danger in his world so there were some twists coming at me which is always icing on the cake for me. Jewelz Baxter is a new to me author, and I'm super excited to read more of her work that's for sure so yeah, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Ellis has wanted Arabella for quite a while and when an opportunity arrises, he will take advantage of the situation and make her his.
Arabella hates Ellis and they are always sparing over the fence between their properties. He enjoys her sass and that she's not afraid to stand up to him. She despises him and wants nothing to do with him, or does she? When she finds herself in his home and has no idea for how long, the feelings begin to show.
I love how Ellis is a hard man, but he is a softy when it comes to Arabella. His life was not gentle or kind growing up and it made him and his brothers the hard, lethal men they are, but there is a soft side that only comes out for the right person and that just so happens to be Arabella.
This was my first book by Jewelz Baxter, but will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing style and her story telling and I look forward to finding more of her books to read. I'll be buying some soon.

Loved this story
This is a must read. I have read and loved every MC book that Jewelz has written. Kiss of Power that is a story of the boss of a crime family did not disappoint me. Ellis and Arabella’s story was entertaining to read the dynamics between them. Truth be told Arabella really holds the power of their relationship in her small hand. I look forward to reading Alex and Connor’s stories to see what type of woman takes them to task!

Wow. I absolutely fell in love with Arabella and Ellis. I could read so much more. They don’t start out as your normal couple and I probably shouldn’t have wanted them together but they are so perfectly written I knew they were meant for each other. This author never disappoints and this was another perfect story.

This book is amazing. I couldn’t put it down. This book had all the feels. Places I laughed and cried and through it all I fell in love with Arabella & Ellis. I enjoyed getting to check in with some familiar faces as well as meet Ellis’s brothers. And others in the story. Their chemistry is amazing. I cant wait for more. I highly recommend this book.

New to Mafia - It is Good!
Ellis is a Mafia King. Arabella is the girl next door with everyday thoughts and dreams. She doesn't like the family's neighbor, Ellis.
The story has a good storyline. It gave me all emotions: laughter, crying, anger, fright, hate and love.
Once I started I couldn't put it down. It was hard to go to work.
Definitely recommend!

Power and love
Power is said to be many things but love is not meant to be part of it. Love is meant to be a part of power because its unconditional and knows no boundaries.
Ellis would seem to be a broken man at first but that changed when his plans went into motion. Arabella made the man into a better man.
This is a new author for me. I loved the story, plot, characters.

Didn't really care for this. Started reading it as a palette cleanser before jumping into a heavier book and it felt very lacklustre. There were a few inconsistencies with the FMC that made it hard for me to follow and get immersed into the world. Unfortunately a pass. 2 stars because it wasn't the worst book ever, just felt like it was missing a lot.

You will fall in love with Arabella & Ellis. I’m looking forward to reading about the other couples though. This one has suspense, two people who you don’t think will be together but somehow the author spins them to be together. You’ll have all the feels when reading this book

At first, I thought it was slow going, but I kept going. I'm so glad I did! It's set in my home state but you dont realize it until they mentioned it. I'm glad because the cliché settings not being there really set the book forward. I'm looking forward to the other brother's stories!
