Riveting, Gripping, scary, unpredictable and definitely an edge of seat read! Darlene Turner takes her readers into the midst of a serial killer’s path of destruction as he tries to stop a forensic anthropologist from discovering his buried secrets. The killer is desperate and will do what ever is necessary to hide his identity from the Constables who want to dig up the truth. Kidnapping and killing anyone who gets too close to bringing him to justice. The killer is always one step ahead of the law and that’s exactly where he wants to be.

I thought this book was the top of the line in suspense . I didn’t want to stop reading once I started the book. I was totally drawn into the story. I was surprised when the serial killers identity was revealed. I never would have guessed it was that person.

I recommend this book to readers of Suspense, Love Inspired books and fans of the Author.
This book will release on 12/26/23.

First off, I liked the location of this story; and forensics has a fascination all its own, especially for someone that watches Forensic Files. That said, the story seemed a little unbelievable in certain spots. I think the police investigation seemed off, even inept at times. There were attacks after attacks, and they keep missing catching the attackers. With extra security, private and public, the bad guys still wind up getting pass them. Just a little unbelievable to me that the two evil ones keep breaching defenses and time after time get away.

A cemetery that holds extra graves with re-buried bones has forensic anthropologist Dr. Jordyn Miller teaming with former love Colt Peters, a constable sent by her father to protect her.
This case dredges up more than old bones. Whose bones they are will prove to bring up old hurts to the surface.
Danger follows Jordyn and Colt as they seek answers. Never a dull moment in this exciting story of two souls searching for guidance from God. An integral character is Bones, the K-9 partner assigned to Colt. The author portrayed him authentically.
If you want an intriguing mystery with twists and turns and a second chance romance- look no further!

Written with impeccable research and hair-raising scenes of suspense and danger, this book is one that is memorable and compelling. Jordyn Miller is a forensic anthropologist and in her digging up graves, she encounters the evil of the BoneDigger in how the victims were killed and buried. With the help of Constable Colt Peters, Jordyn sets out to find this malicious killer, but is thwarted at every turn because he always seems to be one step ahead of them. The story is complicated further by family secrets and a kidnapping along with mysterious lynx figures in the graves that seem to have a hidden meaning. This book is fast-paced with plenty of false trails and lots of clues along the way. It was entertaining as well as intriguing as I played the “guess who the killer game” all along the way as I read. I enjoyed getting to know the dynamic characters and how their faith grew as the story progressed. I also liked the resolution to the family conflicts that had been present when the story began. This was a totally engrossing book that seamlessly weaves suspense with romance and includes addictive suspense with a creepy villain.

I received this book as an ARC with no expectation of a positive review. I love this story about Dr. Jordyn Miller, Constable Colt Peters and his K-9 partner, Bones. An unmarked grave is found in the woods outside the cemetery. Jordyn is called in to gather data about the bones since she is an anthropologist. There are threats on her life so Colt and Bones are brought in to protect her. As Jordyn and her team are investigating the grave, they are running against time as a hurricane is coming. Can they find out who these graves belong to as well as how they ended up in the woods? Were they killed, if not why not be buried in the cemetery? This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It is a must read for all who enjoy romantic suspense.

Buried Grave Secrets had me guessing who the killer was until the very end! The twist and turns had me thinking could it be this person or maybe its that person. Loved it!! I feel in love with Bones the k-9, Constable Colt Peters and forensic anthropologist Jordyn . There was scary situations, secrets, forgiveness, romance , and all this put together has made this deserving of all five stars and more.

Suspense, murder, intrigue, kidnapping, and love. This book has it all! Darlene Turner has once again crafted a story that twists and turns until the end! The culprits totally surprised me, and the story kept me engaged!

The characters are wonderful! Jordyns work as a forensic anthropologist is interesting! Colt is awesome! He's a protector, dedicated to his job, and trustworthy. Their complicated relationship keeps things interesting! Honorable mention to Bones! He does his job admirably!

I liked how the characters prayed and sought direction from God! It's very encouraging! My favorite quote is: "A reminder of God's light shining in the darkness."And she would shine hers brightly for all to see."

I was provided a copy of the book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dr. Jordyn Miller, a forensic anthropologist, finds herself at Charock Cemetary to examine bones at an unmarked grave. Constable Colt Peters is sent by Jordyn's father to protect her while investigating.

There are a lot of twists and turns in the story. You will find yourself trying to figure out who the threat to Jordyn is and if they are related to the unmarked graves. It's an edge-of-your-seat action and suspense that will leave you breathless as danger after danger takes place.

This is one of the best stories with just the right amount of everything. Another great read with inspiring characters that will hook you at the beginning. Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from the author and willingly chose to review it. All opinions are my own.

This story yanked me in from the very first page! Turner does a fabulous job of writing a suspense story with high stakes, pulsing action, and of course, gripping suspense.

When Jordyn Miller, a forensic anthropologisst, is called to a site of buried bones, she never expects to be shot at, repeatedly. And the last thing she wants is to be guarded by her ex-boyfriend, constable Colt Peters and his K-9, Bones.

After Jordyn’s famous father insists Constable Colt Peters serve as protection for his daughter, he must figure out how to protect the woman he never stopped loving while guarding his heart and her life.

Jordyn is stubbornly determined to continue discovering the secrets of the bones uncovered, even if it puts her at risk. The families who lost loved ones deserve closure. But when her twin sister is abducted, her reasons become even stronger to put her life at risk in order to save her sister.

Colt and Bones have their own challenges in keeping Jordyn safe. And as they work together to uncover the killer, he finds his resolve to distance himself from her crumbling.

I loved this story and the organic way Colt and Jordyn worked together. Both are very likable characters. And Bones? Loved that dog! Turner does a great job weaving together flawed characters and still making them relatable in good ways.

The twists and turns in this story kept me thinking about it between sessions of reading it, wondering what would happen next.

The setting in a small Canadian town was easy to envision as I read. She did a masterful job of using the setting to add suspense and action to this story.

With riveting action, surprises, and a happily ever after (this is a romance, after all), this is a must-read if you enjoy romantic suspense with a Christian worldview.

***I thank the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.

“…forgive yourself first…It’s time to put the darkness behind us. Until light shines again, we’ll never move on…”

I would never want to live in this book, Buried Grave Secrets, by Darlene L. Turner. Yet, I sure enjoyed visiting Charock Harbour, Maine, from the safety of my armchair. Dr. Jordyn Miller is a part-time forensic anthropologist who is struggling to succeed without using her political father’s name. She would rather not have the protection he provides, either, especially when it comes in the form of Constable Colt Peters, whom she dated previously, and his K-9 co-worker.

Danger abounds. Lynx are at large. An unknown shooter takes aim. Bones threaten to reveal a past reality no one wants. Weather makes for even more suspense. Then there is the danger to two hearts, feeling betrayed and lonely.

I take notes when I read a book. I was also jotting down names and alibis, or lack thereof. Besides the constant terror on the page and families in turmoil, could I flush out the killer before he or she was revealed? Ms. Turner led me on a frightening chase that involved so many twists and turns! I was very satisfied with the complexity of novel and crime. Buried Grave Secrets has risen to be one of my fave LIS books!

I challenge you to take your turn reading this book, as if your deduction skills will save the main characters or not! Be assured- The Bonedigger is watching!!

I received a copy of the book from the author. I also bought a copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.

Notable Quotables:

“Your job puts your family in jeopardy.

”God, where are You? I have to see Your light. The rattling continued. The room remained still. A verse from her childhood emerged... I am the light of the world.“

“You’ve had so many bumps and potholes in your life, love. But God has been right beside you all the time, shining His light. You’ve just snuffed it out. Don’t be so scared of the dark, because sometimes the best things come from within our darkest places.”

Another winner from master suspense writer Darlene Turner! This book is everything I expect to find in an inspirational romantic suspense offering--edge of your seat suspense, non-stop action, valuable spiritual lessons, and a touch of sweet romance. The smoothly flowing plot grabbed my attention from the get-go and kept me totally immersed and reading expectantly to the satisfying ending. I am usually pretty good at guessing the culprit, but I did not even pick up a clue pointing to this one! The characters are wonderfully crafted and realistic. I love Jordyn and Colt and the way their second chance romance unfolds. I especially appreciate the strong faith thread which includes the couple seeking God’s guidance in their perilous pursuit and personal relationships. I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Action pack from beginning to end. Dr. Jordyn Miller is trying to recover some bones that have been y they are fighting the weather with a hurricane on the way. To top it off, she is being threatened by someone who wants her to leave the case alone to protect their identity. Her ex-boyfriend and his K9 dog have been assigned as her personal bodyguard, and her heart was broken when they broke up, and it's difficult to be around him. A lot happens in a short amount of time, and the villain always seems to be able to get past the protection detail. There were a few things that frustrated me with some side characters, but I did like the leads and was rooting for them to solve the case and have a positive conversation about their relationship. I was kept guessing as to who was guilty for most of the book. I am not a dog person, but I really enjoyed the dog in this.

A high action thriller that pulls the reader through a town's darkest moment when a series of bones are discovered, leading to a chase to find a killer before more bodies are added to the pile. Darlene Turner has another adrenaline laced mystery for readers to try and solve. The action is steady with peaks and valleys enough to keep the pages flying past to get the answer. Just when you think the final clue is found to solve everything a twist comes out of nowhere to turn the heat back on before the end of the story. I loved the entire ride!
The research added depth to a great story, filling in the background to make everything crisper and real. The characters were down to earth and imperfect enough to draw me deeper into the story. I loved how their interactions fed reality into the dangerous situations they faced. They had to learn to forgive each other and themselves, trusting God to lead.
Each Darlene Turner book I read is even better than the previous. I look forward to the next great adventure she is sure to take me on! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I really, enjoyed this book, whenever 'forensic anthropologist' is mentioned in a book's description I know that I am going to enjoy it, and I was not disappointed. You can tell that Darlene Turner puts a lot of time into researching her subject matter and it was evident in the details given in the book.

I liked the romantic angle, which was not too much and kept the pace of the book going. If you want to know why someone would go to great lengths to keep graves a secret then you have to read this book. Darlene Turner keeps her readers on their toes, I was caught by surprise at finding out who the grave digger was, well played Ms Turner you really surprised me!

I look forward to reading more of your books.

Great book! Forensic anthropologist Jordyn Miller is sent to investigate an unmarked grave site & her Premier dad Russell Miller gets a threat message against Jordyn…he then sends her ex Constable Colt Peters & his K9 German shepherd Bones to protect her. Colt became a Constable because he was mad at his brother Lucas & made him get out of the car & walk home & he never makes it there. Jordyn has been having flashbacks about an accident she & her dad were involved in when she was a child. He basically tells her it’s her imagination & nothing happened. As more bone are found & Jordyn’s twin Morgan is accidentally kidnapped (she was the one who was supposed to have been grabbed). Jordyn & Colt are trying to solve the case & her dad’s secret is finally discovered. The truth also comes out as to why Colt broke up with Jordyn….break ups-makeup’s are always fun! “Always keep your eyes ahead, and God will shine on the bumps to protect you”

I really like books by this author and this novel is no exception. There is so much suspense in this book that I do not know where to begin. It has possible mistaken identity, serial killer, an ex-boyfriend with his K-9 and horrible weather. It also seems that part of the main male character’s past is involved. It is a very intriguing puzzle to sort out. I thoroughly enjoyed trying to solve the case before it was told to me.

Thank you in advance to the author, Darlene L. Turner, for providing a complimentary review copy through her review team. A positive review was not required nor requested, and all words are my own.

After reading Turner’s debut book, Border Breach, Turner has become one of my “must-read” authors, and that is a VERY LONG list – only because romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres. That’s not to say I don’t like romance – if there is a question of either/or – romantic suspense wins every single time.

Back in the early 2000’s, I subscribed to Harlequin’s Intrigue line. And, those were what I call “day” books – they still are, and these books are the same size. For a time, I would read faster than I’d get books. Then, “life” got in the way, and I have literally hundreds of unread Intrigue books, among others.

In 2019, I discovered the Love Inspired Suspense line. And, today, I can’t even count how many I’ve read, which is far less than how many books I have in my never-ending TBR stack.

That said …

While this is part of a series – Crisis Rescue Team – the characters from this book are new to the story, and none of the characters from the previous books appear in this one. So, it is more or less a “series by theme” and this book can function as a standalone. Though – if you’re a fan of the author – you likely have her books, or you’re looking for them.

The title alone grabbed me, especially with that dog on the cover.

Since there are new characters, Tuner introduces readers to:

🚓 Colt Peters
🔬 Jordyn Miller
👩🏻 Morgan Miller (Jordyn’s twin sister)
🔬 Nick Elliott
🔬 Eve Harrison
👨🏻‍🦳 Russ Miller (Premier; Jordyn & Morgan’s father)
🥼 Vance Chambers (Medical Examiner)
🥼 Zechariah Jones (Jordyn’s Boss)
🚒 Chief Dennis Peters
🐕‍🦺 Bones (Colt’s K-9 partner)
📺 Ursula Baine (Reporter)
☠️ The “BoneDigger”

For anyone who’s seen the Harry Potter movies – Ursula reminded me of Rita Skeeter and irritated me just as bad 🤦🏻‍♀️ I get that reporters have a job, but could they be a little less annoying and a *BIT* more respectful?

Right off Turner throws the readers and the characters into the midst of something sinister and creepy. Jordyn arrives on a scene where human remains have been found. No sooner is she on the scene when her father texts her that someone has made a threat on her life.

As a result, Constable Colt Peters is tasked by Premier Russell Miller to watch over Jordyn. Though there’s a problem – Colt “dumped” Jordyn without giving her a reason, thereby breaking her heart. While she’s not happy to see him, his K-9 Bones is happy to see her – she’s happy to see the dog. [Honestly, I had to laugh about that – she’s happier to see the dog than her ex-boyfriend].

Before the two can even discuss the situation or their past, someone shoots at them. And, it’s clear that whoever left the remains, doesn’t want them disturbed. However, as most know – that isn’t going to happen. But, it isn’t just the person who left the bones there that Jordyn, Colt, and Jordyn’s team are battling – it’s also a hurricane.

In addition to keeping Jordyn safe, Colt is also interested in the remains. They were discovered in the area where he last saw his brother alive 10 years earlier. It is one of the reasons he didn’t pursue a relationship with Jordyn, along with another secret he is keeping from her.

If Jordyn doesn’t have her hands full with the scene, Colt, or her father – her twin sister Morgan calls her and finds out. As the two are not on the best of terms after Jordyn’s fiancée left her for her twin, Morgan lashes out at Jordyn about her job endangering the family. It gets nerve-wracking when Ursula Baine shows up wanting an exclusive – naming the culprit “The BoneDigger” – much to Jordyn and Colt’s chagrin, then Morgan is kidnapped.

Peril is an understatement – there is a drone attack, Jordyn is poisoned, a fire is set – all before most of the remains can be identified. It’s definitely clear, there is foul play, and something deeper is going on. But what, and who are involved? And, why?

There’s also a hint to a secret in Russell’s past, and Jordyn keeps having nightmares about an accident she and her father were in when she was younger. Is he lying, like she suspects? Is Morgan’s kidnapping related to the discovery of the remains, or the secrets of Russell’s past? Is the BoneDigger connected to her father or is it a ruse?

While uncovering secrets, in more ways than one, Jordyn and Colt find themselves drifting together. It is clear that they do still care for the other – this is demonstrated by Colt’s loyalty and his protectiveness to her; as well as Jordyn’s sympathy and concern for Colt. But, their pasts threaten to keep them apart in a story that has one twisted turn after another that keeps the reader’s attention until the very last page.

Like most books in the line – Buried Grave Secrets is a fast-paced, intense, suspenseful, heart-pounding, and an edge-of-the-seat thrill. While this is a romantic suspense story, it tended more towards the suspense, almost like a 90/10% – which was fine for me.

I was sucked in right off, and the only thing keeping me from reading it until the end was “life”, and being in desperate need of sleep this, I couldn’t stop reading. At times, Turner had me feeling as though I was right there with them. I know there were a few heart-pounding and heart-stopping moments.

I did find one of Colt’s reasons for not wanting to be with Jordyn a bit “silly”. While I could understand the sentiment, times did change – I will not say more though. And, while the bad guy was a definite surprise; my main issue was the “baddie” that wasn’t a “baddie – Russell. To allow one’s child to lie to keep a secret, and another to be in peril – I was disgusted by him. When some of the truths started coming to light, I just wanted someone to smack him, preferably his wife. The BoneDiggers’s motives were – in a word – almost understandable, which is saying a lot. However, the BoneDigger is summed up with one word – diabolical.

There was a cute reference to a TV medical examiner who wore bow ties, and I can’t help but wonder if Turner was referring to NCIS’ Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, portrayed by the late David McCallum. The show is entering its 21st season as of February 21, 2024 due to a delay with the writer’s and actor’s strike of 2023. I became a “late” fan despite the insistence of family and friends’ demands to watch it 🤣 but, eventually I caved. One of my favorite characters was Ducky, which is why I had the suspicion I did about the reference.

With that said, there is ONE tiny aspect I did want more of – Eve and Nick. And, I HOPE there is something about them down the road in future novels.

As Love Inspired/Love Inspired Suspense is the Christian line of Harlequin, this will have some elements of faith. These are usually forgiveness, second chances, characters who pray and rely on faith to see them through situations. Turner never disappoints in grabbing the readers in, creating wonderful characters, and showing God’s work in their lives. Many times we can see it mirroring in our own.

The author has two more books coming out (April 2024 and September 2024), and I honestly can’t wait to read those. Thankfully, There’s less than three months until the next book. I don’t think I could wait any longer!
