I once had a pet hermit crab that had more of a personality than this female main character.

I think I have to give up on this series. Possibly more thoughts to come.

Wanted to love it but everything fell short

I loved the idea of the first book: magic academy, lots of unknowns, reverse harem… totally up my alley. I wanted to like Mara and her princes, and cheer for her as she discovered new pieces of herself in this unfamiliar world. Without spoiling anything, this book picks up exactly where the first one left off and we learn a teensy bit more about the main plot while Mara fumbles her way through every single social interaction.

However, through these two books, the FMC has gotten less sure of herself somehow, become more dependent on literally everyone else, and the relationships with the men have become toxic and one-sided. Aggression is not affection, this is not an elementary school playground and I’d understand if that’s how it starts but it’s JUST aggression most of the time. Dominic in particular has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I wanted to like these books but they’re rife with tropes and childish emotions, editing errors, and juvenile language. I won’t be finishing the series and the MASSIVE cliffhanger clinched these books as DNF for me.

L.K Shear has done it again 🙌🏼

Our heroine and her 4 prince’s have once again stolen my heart (sorry but Bondage Daddy is top tier) no spoilers here but those 🌶️ scenes??? 🥵 and that ending? Mind blown 🤯 lucky this author writes at the speed of light because I NEED TO KNOW!!!

Now go read this immediately. You’ll thank me later.

The drama-filled second instalment of Mara's journey with her 4 Princes – however, a new external threat awaits.

Stirrings of Spring is the second book in the Wyldthron Academy by L.K. Shear. I appreciate how the first book left us on a cliffhanger, and the second book picks up exactly where we left off – the transition between both books was done very smoothly.

I also liked that we got major development between Mara and each of the princes, I was hoping that we would understand why the FMC was drawn to the the MMCs and vice versa, and Shear definitely delivered on that front. There is clear chemistry between Mara and two particular princes in this book, which makes any intimate scenes more pertinent, in my opinion.

The pacing in Stirrings of Spring was much better, as I feel as though a lot got done in this book without feeling as though it was rushed or forced. In turn, this means that the plot, character development and overall story arc are in a great place by the end of the book, which leaves us on yet another cliffhanger (which I assume will pick up in the next book).

I will say that my interest in Mara as a character seemingly drops off during this book as she starts to depend on the princes more which is unlike her as shown in the first book. Obviously, I know this book revolves around fated mates and so the characters relying on one another is to be expected, however, the self-assured Mara from book one is slowly becoming unsure of herself and is letting the MMCs take the lead. She still wants to continue her education and is also keen on helping others, but it seems as though she's letting the 4 princes take over her whole world, which dampens the mood for me.

I also usually struggle with POVs constantly changing, but it works well in this book. It flows one after the other and overall makes sense, I don't feel as though I've missed something important. It's also nice to see how each character surveys and feels about a situation, which is an added bonus.

I'm eager to continue to book three, and finish the series!

Loved it. This book had everything I like in a story. Love chemistry. Strong MFC. Fated Mates. Multiple love interest and she doesn't have to choose just one. Good plot. Character and story building. I gotta say I'm not very patient person when it comes to waiting for unfinished series but when the book is worth it I sure don't mind the waiting period and this book will definitely be worth waiting for the next one. But be warned. There's a major cliffhanger on this one 😱😱!

WHAT A RIDE!

I am well and truly invested in this story and its characters. I love having POVs for all the 5 characters and seeing into their thoughts of events and what they think 👌

Also, Mara the FMC is just getting better and better and there is such growth over the 2 books which is great to read.

The book is a RH and boy is it spicy too! There is some MM and FM in this one.

I just HAVE to find out who the bad guy is 🤣 and I have absolutely NO IDEA?!?! Like not one. I have no idea where it is going or why it's happening and I need to binge read book 3 right now to find out all the things.

Okay going to start it now, KthanksBye 👋

This is the second book from the Wyldthorn Academy series. It picks up exactly where it left off the first book. I would suggest that you read the first book to know what exactly is happening in the second book.

Again this is a paranormal romance, why choose, fated mates story. There is a content waring list at the start of the book so do read that before starting the book.

I fell inlove with the first book and I am so happy that the second book is giving me the same vibes. I love the story line and love all the characters. So in this book the group is getting closer to figuring out the dark curse that is placed over the school. They are still trying to figure out how to help Forrest and the rest of the students and professors. Mara gets more comfortable with her new mates and with her growing powers. Follow them as they learn to trust and fight together.

Forest has been gone the entire book, and I barely know the guy, but I miss him!!! There are so many unanswered questions that I didn't want to sleep until I finished the book, and then it ended on a cliffhanger like THAT?!?! UGH!!!

I live all the new information and folklore references. The tuatha de danann, Greek mythology, egyptology, etc. They are all just happening all at once and somehow cohesively separate. So that each individual has their own gods, ancestors, fate, and afterlives. So cool.

The smut was so good!!!!!! The magic and shifting abilities just add to it. I can't wait for the group activities. You know. Once they save Forest and figure out some things and aren't stressed and confused all the time. Though smexy times seem to help clear their heads pretty fast, so maybe it'll help.

I've never been good at predicting prophecies or plot twists, so I have no idea how any of this is going to be resolved, but I'm along for the ride. And I'm hoping it will be a tiny bit hand holdy when the epiphanies happen and all the aspects of the prophecy are revealed. I can be forgetful and dense sometimes. I need things explained. Usually by a monologuing villain. I like those.

I haven't even met the nightmare king or whatever, and I already don't trust him.

I was really intrigued by the blurb of the first book. However, after pushing myself to finish the second book, I'm 75% certain this series is not for me. The other 25% is curious about the actual plot, but annoyed that the author couldn't write one sentence without thinking another spicy scene needed to be included. Mara and the Princes have little to no personality. The whole book is one spicy scene after another with a pinch of plot sprinkled in between. The author wrote the Princes, especially Dorian, in a way that as soon as Mara learns something useful to the plot, she needs to relax afterwards. So of course, we get another sex scene, that does nothing to move their relationship or the plot forward. I'm honestly surprised the book has any plot with the frequency of sex these characters have. The Princes are all supposedly Dom-adjacent and yet none of them seem to understand and employ delayed gratification in any of these scenes, despite the author mentioning it.

To summarize, this book starts where the first one ended with Dorian and Mara finding out they're mates. Dominic's emotionally inept ass finds out and loses it because he's insecure in his relationship with Dorian (and pretty much anything requiring him to have more emotional intelligence than that of a brick). Forrest (another emotional inept cinder block) ends up trapped under a pond of blood when trying to save another student. (Like three sex scenes follow this event, from this point on there's a sex scene pretty much every chapter.) Dorian tells Dominic and Tiernan about the prophecy concerning them and Mara. Tiernan and Mara find out they're mates. Mara and the Princes try to save Forrest, but Dorian pulls Mara back before she can. Dominic and Mara find out they're mates, Forrest acts like he's awake and some students that escaped the blood pond offer info, the end.

I would like to reiterate that half of the book is sex scenes. The scenes usually last one or one and half chapters, the book is 25 chapters and there are TWELVE sex scenes. I cannot overstate how I was pulling my hair out a third way into the book. It was a loop of, "Yay now they're done fucking, we'll get some more plot development. Oh wait ANOTHER ONE!" That issue is my greatest gripe with the book because it doesn't allow for enough character development. I have no clue (and frankly, neither do the MMCs, despite their say so) about who Mara is as a person. How can you like someone genuinely if most of the time they're around, they're fucking your friends?? I don't recall much conversation outside of their sexual relationship either. Maybe it's "off-screen" but if it's "off-screen" how the FUCK are we supposed to KNOW that? It's not alluded to or described. I'm supremely frustrated with this style of writing. Smut is a genre, absolutely, but it can blend with romance and fantasy and some authors do it with practiced ease. HOWEVER, some author's plot A is smut and the B plot is the characters flailing around to achieve some quest. It's kitschy, cliche, and obtrusive. If the author doesn't want to write the book, she should definitely rewrite the blurb to inform potential readers of what they're signing up for.

LK Shear delivers, AGAIN! The spice is chef’s kiss. Who doesn’t love variety? If you like it, you’ll probably find it here. Stirrings of Spring is the second book in the Wyldthorn Academy series and should be read after Touch of Winter. This is not a standalone. Only two more books to go! I devoured this! I absolutely love the world LK Shear has created and I can’t get enough. Dorian is still my favorite Prince, but I think Dominic is trying to take Tiernan off of second place. Only book three will tell!

Spice level (1-5): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Kink level (1-3): ⛓️⛓️ MMFMM, MM, sword crossing, magical bondage, primal play, D/s, MM & MF butt stuff, exhibitionism, Mine, blood play (kinda?) etc.

Mara finds out Dorian is also her fated mate, causing more tension between her and Dominic. A sleeping illness spreads throughout the university. When someone close to Mara gets ill, can Mara and the gang figure out how to save him? Or will they be too late and lose him forever?

I would recommend Stirrings of Spring to everyone! If you love why choose, kink options, shifters, incubi, adventure, academia, PNR, magic, bad@ss in the making FMC, prophecy riddles, hot hot spice, fated mates, bonded mates, fate/destiny, just kiss already, jealous she’s ‘stealing’ your bonded, rough guys, no respect for panties, you’ll love Stirrings of Spring. This book does contain mild violence, hot & spicy male on male segg scenes, blood, captivity, and semi dub con. For the fans of shifter smut with options, this one is for you!

Warning: Reading Stirrings of Spring may make you go commando. May make you want to try new things. May make you want to go back to university in hopes a group of hot guys will be mated to you. May make you want to pick a court. May make you embrace yoga pants. May make you think about Dorian’s wingspan. May make you wonder about the 🍆 scale. May make you unable to decide which Prince is your favorite. May make you greedy. The more the merrier. Read responsibly.

I was kindly sent an ARC of this book in return for an honest review - I am extremely grateful to have received an ARC.

This series is seriously growing on me. I love a why choose and it’s been fun to dip my toes into more of a fantasy why choose which isn’t always my go to - these characters are definitely entertaining and I found over the course of the second book that I grew to like them more than the first book. The stakes are a little higher than the first book as well which kept things interesting and moving as the book went on.

However the stakes weren’t exceptionally thrilling or out there - it did make this book feel like an easy read but I still felt as though perhaps a little more could have happened or perhaps more of a plot twist or reveal could have upped things and made the story more exciting. I think it’s obvious that as the series goes on we will learn more but it felt as though this book lacked a little bit of a jaw dropping moment or a real head spinner. The end cliff hanger was good but felt a little lacking and a little rushed.

The spicy scenes were sooooo good. I love the way LK Shear writes these scenes, they’re detailed and they’re not too short - there isn’t any language that is an ick for me that is overly used if at all. There feels like a really good balance between plot and spice and it’s fun to read about the FMC with each of the MMCs and how her experiences differ with each of them and I’m excited to see their relationships expand in the rest of the series and how the dynamic between them all will develop.

I really enjoy LK Shears writing - it feels easy to digest, never really clunky and fast paced which kept me engaged in the story. I’m excited for book 3!

Good

I enjoyed this book. I found there wasn’t a Ton of action, more character building, the relationships between Dorian, Tiernan, and Dominic. Forrest is in a coma of sorts and so are plenty of other students. We get to learn more about Marras Kitsune abilities. It seems that when she stops thinking, her body knows what to do. She gets in her head a lot. A lot of flip flopping between her feelings with Dom and herself, granted he was a jerk to begin with, and didn’t offer any assistance when she needed it with shifting. He just tried to intimidate her. He’s finally realizing what a jack off he was to her when she wants nothing to do with him. She’s right though, why is it that she has to put up with their Jerkish ways and she has to be ok with it. Why does she have to be the one to open up to them. Dorian tries to get Dom and Marra together so they could work out their differences. I’m actually quite surprised that Dorian let what Dom go through with what he did. No spoilers here but I did worry for a bit though. It made my skin crawl with knowing Forrest was still experiencing life and their marks on each other still caused them to itch. As the reader, we get inside knowledge of the persons point of view, and it just broke my heart to read it all unfolding. Hopefully they are able to save him and everyone else. She deserves a happy ending. She also needs to put her issues with Dom to rest, as she did with Forrest. Nothing in their past matters, only their future. Cant wait to read what’s next.

Once again, it ends on a cliff. Like I said for the first book, I’m realizing that all of these need to be red back to back so you can keep up. Aside from that, my main word for this book is Sex. And lots and lots of it. MF action, MM action, talk of MFM action. The works. I mean, Mara ends up with 3 mates in this book. One of them is in danger in an eternal type sleep and the other two just can’t get enough of her and she is with one or the other throughout the entire book.

For the actual fantasy part of the story and not the romance, I felt like there was a lag here in this one. Her mate, Forrest, the Winter Prince, ends up asleep or stuck somewhere in between and instead of everyone taking it seriously, I felt like it was in the background of her getting pounded by her Princely Mates. I’m mean, it was fire and I truly felt singed. Ok, there was a little bit of research and trying to figure things out, but not enough where you felt it was noticeable. I’m hoping that the next one focuses a little on the story because I still don’t know why she was asked to come to the academy or what is going on. The romance and spicy stuff is going full out though, so it does keep you entertained.

I will pick up the third sometime soon because I have to see what happens with her sleepy mate and the one that is denial. Yes, there are 4 total. Also, the MM action between Dominic and Dorian is pretty hot. All of these guys have some kind of BDSM fetish and it is written pretty well.

This series has me in a chokehold. I have been literally dreaming about this book, it's that good.

In a continuation of the events in Touch of Winter, we follow Mara, a kitsune, and her fated mates as she tries to settle into her new form and new powers. Forrest, the Prince of Winter, needs to be saved and according to prophecy she's the one who can save him.

The storyline in this book is a solid 5/5. What lost a star for me is two things. The first being this felt like it should've been one book, not split into two. These are fast paced novels, literally sat down and read them both within 5 hours I loved them so much. But the plot was not anything different than the first book, so it felt like just another chapter from book 1. The first chapter picks up directly in the middle of an event from book 1, so I'd definitely recommend reading them back to back.

The second piece that lost a star for me is the cliffhanger. LK, you took my heart and stomped on it with that cliffhanger. How dare you play with my emotions like that!

In all seriousness, I'm grateful to have received this book as an ARC, it's definitely living rent free in my brain for forever, or at least until book 3 is released.

Terribile, assolutamente terribile.

“But when you are mine, you’ll be a good girl, or I will …the brat right out of you, understand?”

This book was action packed from the get go and picks right back up from the ending of the first which I love! So enthralling and captivating I literally couldn’t stop reading, I needed to know what happened.
The more I learn about these characters, the more it feels like a next gen tale of Titans and their offspring. I loved learning more about the mythology elements and how they are all related and fitted into this tale. Really interesting and well laid out weaving of these parts to the plot.
If book one was like 3 chill spice level, this is like habanero level! Like almost every chapter has some spice. I am here for it! Daddy T, goodness! Like where is the tick box option to be Mara when I grow up? Lucky Kitsune! Dang! Lots of naps too which I’m all for. Naps really aren’t appreciated enough as adults.
That cliffy though?! For reals? Glad I have the next book to go on to! Highly recommend!

Seriously that's how it's ending?!
Ok so I was a bit unsure of this one at first, really I think books one and two could have just been one book but that could be just because of this one picking up exactly where book one left. So read book one first.
I liked how the characters grew a bit more especially Forrest and Dominic, they aren't as one dimensional anymore. The mystery of the sickness is intriguing and I'm interested to see how that's going to play out and what it will have to do with the four princes and Mara. Spice level was high in this book at some points a bit distracting from the plot but so fun to read.
Looking forward to the next two books.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the series, and I’m really stressed that there are only gonna be two more in the series. This book may have been better than the first book with the character development. I just feel like we really get to understand everybody more and I absolutely adored it. I think this author is coming into their own writing style and it’s really really great. This book is definitely up my alley and as somebody who loves zodiac Academy, and the concept of seated meats I think it’s extremely intriguing and it overall has been an enjoyable experience that I highly recommend.

Flows beautifully

This is book 2 of the series. I must say that this book flows perfectly from the last, not jumping head or starting out in some weird time after the last but picks up beautifully where the last book ended.

This book did not rush or repeat the plot. Instead, the book flowed, allowing things to unfold in such a way that it felt right. It gave details and imagery that didn't fill like filler or like it was being drawn out to be drawn out. Thus far, complaints to the author as my attention has been held long enough to stay up past my bedtime to read book 3.

I chokehold that this world has on me is top notch! Mara is so determined and her 4 princes man. Nothing is hotter than Dorian and Dominic’s relationship in this book! There’s so many unanswered questions and unknown that I couldn’t put it down! That cliffhanger at the end has be so frustrated! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that I feel like we had not advanced much in the plot, yes the relationship dynamics are changing and bonds strengthened but I needed just a bit more answers/plot on the prophecy. Otherwise my favorite series so far of 2023!

Can’t wait for more!!

I am absolutely loving this series. I love the characters, the world and the story.

This story is so engrossing. I love how all her men are coming around and I cannot wait to find out what happens with this mysterious sleeping sickness and her final mate.

The ending definitely left me in suspense and I’m already anxious for the next book.

The heat level in this one definitely kicked up a notch and I can’t wait to see where they go with it.

Everything about these books just makes me desire more!! Looking forward to the next one!

Awesome

Soooooo... I tend to dislike cliffhangers without the next book available, even more so when there is not estimated time for next one.. That being said I loved this and I'm dying for more. I really hope it comes soon. This world you built and the different beings are some of my favorites, very diverse and different than anything I have read before. I dont like leaving reviews with spoilers so I won't say anything that would do that however damn you for leaving us in that cliffhanger!!!

I received this book as an ARC from the author.

I thought book 1 was amazing but book 2 surpassed it by leaps and bounds. I read it in less than 24 hours, I just couldn't put it down! I had to know what happened next. And that cliffhanger ending? So not nice!
I'm still not a huge fan of Mr. HellHound, especially there at the end. (That scene was a bit past my idea of sexy, but I'm sure many will enjoy it).
I cannot wait to dive into book 3!

I liked this book so much! I read book 1 and wanted more and I got much more in book 2! It was left on a huge cliff hanger well several actually, but I am pretty sure I know one of them. I loved seeing the development and character growth especially with Dominic and Mara. Dorian and Tiernan both have huge development and don’t get me started on Forrest. I also feel there is more to know about Jean and Nora so I cannot wait for the next book! I know there are 4 books so I’m anxiously waiting.

If I could reset my brain just to read this again I would. The spice is fire, the boys are fire, and good old Mara just has a PLATTER of amazing men all with some juicy yummy spicy 🌶️ traits. LK is on my auto buy list after reading the first book and I don’t regret that decision. Each character has their own spicy traits and unique personality’s which all link together to form just plan badass vibes. Go read, it’s worth it.

I am not sure why I am so hard on this series. It was good, really good but I keep finding small things that annoy me and cannot rate it higher. Like the prophecy and Forrest's situation is not really an urgency. Time goes without her and the rest of the guys doing a thing, it seems. No mention of her parents, not even an afterthought. I am usually fine with that in other books but suddenly it irks me.
