The dead can’t hurt you, unless they come back to life… Rose Beaufont has enough to deal with in her new life as a witch hunter.
Study magic—check. Deal with the House of Fourteen—check. Search for the book with the Shadow Walker coven’s secrets—check. Get to know long, lost relatives—check. Deal with the dead who have been brought back to life by a necromancer… no check.
Rose Beaufont is quickly learning that her new life is full of complications. For every win, there are many setbacks. She might have made the first arrest of a Shadow Walker witch, but that doesn’t mean hunting down the coven will be any easier. Rose needs to find her great-aunt’s book. Then she can discover how to bring down the coven. But along the way, she must learn how to use magic, how to fight, how to become a Beaufont and exactly who she is—which is a brand-new type of warrior.
Can Rose embrace both her family and her magic to stop mortals before they destroy themselves? The future depends on it.

Yes extra exclamation points is overkill, but Sarah is worth it, and not BECAUSE SHE IS GETTING MARRIED!
So VERY many incredibly warm thoughts for an amazing author and tiny ninja! You rock, woman! You rock. Craig is a lucky man, but now that he lives in LA does that make him an “unmentionable?”
Back to the book. This is the Sarah Noffke I love read! I can’t help but continue to chuckle at all the way she finds to “introduce” Rose to the entire supporting cast of the Beaufont’s world.
Beyond that she isn’t taking any shortcuts anywhere. There’s a few more word perhaps, but Sarah is at her best when she’s a little long-winded. Whether it’s a climactic fight or a true “groaner” of a dad-joke, her writing truly shines in the big windup before releasing that fireball (sprinkled with Love, no less.
It’s not world-class literature, but it IS stellar-class fun.
Last thing: damn that tiny ninja, if she didn’t sneak up and throw salt in my eyes (that’s the only reason for the tears, I swear) when I read the Spell that saves Rose when she needs it most. For some reason, that particular spell, in that place and at that moment, especially given Rose’s state of mind, just blindsided me in the best possible way!
How do you keep coming up with all the fun stuff to read? Just when I'm ready to say, no, no more Beaufont, I get sucked back in. In all seriousness I love these books. Talking sidekicks and all. I keep wondering, what next? Keep them coming. ✌ Best to you and Craig, another great author.
I’m still undecided as to whether or not I really like this series. The first book was fun, and this story was okay, but didn’t have me itching for more. I like Rose (and I love seeing the other Beaufonts), but some things never change, like the council having shady characters, or Bermuda being an annoying character. There were some tantalising tidbits dropped concerning Rose’s future, but somehow I just felt a bit ‘meh’ about this book. Will read the next book when it drops as I’m expecting the romance subplot to kick in there. A bit predictable, but okay so far.
Suddenly Magical Book 2 in the The Undoubtable Rose Beaufont series by Sarah Noffke; Michael Anderle Narrated by Dara Rosenberg
I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this audiobook through Netgalley.
I didn’t listen to the first book in this series, and felt lost throughout the first hour of this book.
This book had good points, but mostly it felt disjointed, underwhelming, and disappointing.
The story is about a young woman, Rose, who suddenly breaks free of her proverbial cage (a highly sheltered life) and finds she has magic, and that she’s now supposed to be a power player with only a doofus sidekick, a Chinese dragon named Elvis.
There are trials that seem too easy. The best way I can explain it is to say the trials were like an extremely easy escape room - something a kid could solve easily.
There are delightful characters to this book that made it bearable. She has a cousin who is in the role of Saint Valentine and runs a Fairy Godmother agency.
There’s a young man, London, who is also a halfling like Rose. He has magictech robots (basically thinking automatons) - a smart panda and a lazy lion. This trio is great.
The potential for an amazing book was within arm’s reach, but it fell short.
The narrator, Dara Rosenberg, was unconvincing in her multiple roles for the first 2 hours. After that, she seemed to get her sea legs under her and did great. I think Jessica Almasy would have been a better narrator. I hope that Dara will listen to some of Jessica’s recordings and learn from her professional delivery.
My harsh assessment comes from a place of love. I love the written word, audiobooks, fantasy, magic, detective agencies, heroes, and golden hearts. So, when I listen or read a story I always want it to succeed and to come to life. I want it to wow me. I want it to stick with me. Sarah Noffke and Michael Anderle have been writing for years. I know they have the potential to do better.
This series can be made better. I have some suggestions. 1. At the beginning of a new book - give the backstory. Who is the main character? Where are they and why? Are there any strange and unusual characters? In this case Mother Nature was talked about almost flippantly. Saint Valentine is a power position with zero background information. 2. Better dialog between the main characters - Rose and Elvis. I love the frenemy relationship, but it was forced, and nowhere near silly enough. Eyebrow jokes only go so far. Better quips, more snark, more spunk would help. Also, endearing moments and background are important to readers/listeners just starting the series 3. Up the ante. Escape room trials should have more oomph. Zombies should be scary, not just easily vanquished foes that amble around funny and hit things. Drama !
Overall, this is a good book, but not fantastic. If you can look past the shortcomings- you’ll enjoy this story.
What a wonderful second book for the Rose Beaufont series!
From start to finish, Rose, and her Chimera, Elvis, whose chosen other form is a Chinese Dragon, have to race against the clock, trying to solve a variety of riddles and puzzles, in order to get rewarded with the magical gift of Fire.
The Shadow Walker Coven, are gearing up for an all-out War with the Mortal Seven, and the House of Fourteen, and it's up to Rose and Elvis - with a little help from their friends - to stop these evil, soulless, witches, from making Los Angeles their battleground, and that needs fire.
How Rose and Elvis can do this, when so newly paired, and with Rose totally new to so much of life, makes for an exciting read - one so good, I'm really very sad that the next book of the series isn't published as yet, thus leaving me hanging, as I wait!
But the wait will be worth it if this great book, and the one before it, are any example.
As I have far too many books on my kindle, that have waited far, far, too long for me to read them (it's as well my TBR pile is a virtual one! ), then I think I'm going to go with the flow, and start a book I bought recently again - let's not kick the habit of a lifetime, hey? Lol
So, I'm going for the first book in a series by Scott Walker. The series is called Little Yokai, and involves Kitsune - Japanese spirit animals that can become human, and who are a little mischievous, but also very wise, the older they get.
The precursor to the first book in this series is called: Shadowed, so I'll catch you on the flip side, after I've read this, to let you know what I think of it! 🦊
Half human, half magician, Rose Beaufont is the mortal 7 of the Beaufont clan. Her days are full hunting witches with her chimera by her side, training her magic, and learning about her ancestry. When a Shadow Walker clan necromancer takes over a city, creates zombies, and holds a town hostage unless she comes and faces him, Rose life get thrown into turmoil. Her only hope is to find her great-aunt’s lost book, conquer the portal and fire magic that alludes her and the love magic only an unknown relative of hers has. Will Rose be able to embrace her family, her magic, and conquer the necromancer before it’s too late?
Narrator, Dara Rosenberg’s unique intonations and narrative style is engaging, unique, and makes the characters easy to distinguish. Her narration adds depth to the masterfully done world building. Narrator and author’s styles complement each other well as well as the complex plot. Characters are complex, engaging, and help bring Rose’s world to life. Her chimera is hilarious and adds a lot of humor to the book. Readers who like fantasy, adventure, and mythical creatures will want to pick this one up.

Very intriguing developments & situations were thrilling. . .
. . .yet, I think it needs to be said that the.Chinese dragon/chimera's snark has gone from over-enthusiastically talkative to immature, inconsiderate, mean, and therefore, counterproductive to being helpful to Rose. It's fortunate that Rose is naturally gifted, of above-average intelligence, and has a talent for patience and staying calm after her twenty years living and dealing with a neurotic, controlling, and inflexible mortal mother. Rose is pretty amazing in this installment, though I think she needs to speak seriously to Elvis and communicate the fundamentals and benefits of decorum.
Elvis did prove helpful during her battle with Onyx, and Rose wasn't as slow on the uptake in the challenges and her other actions during this book, so I would recommend this one -- except for Elvis being rude and annoying versus funny and talkative, the book is a great read. Four stars.
This series feels more YA than some of the other Beaufont series. The MC is younger, much more naïve, and the numerous tasks are more simplified. Like previous books, the plot is basically to complete a long series of related tasks to complete the final task. In this case, an apocalyptic invasion, zombies of course. The fact that Rose had plenty of time to eat, sleep, train, and complete those tasks seemed even more unbelievable than usual. Definite hints of an upcoming love interest. While fun to see previous characters from other books, this one just isn't catching my interest. I'll probably try book 3 but may not continue this series.
3.5 stars. Another fun installment where Rose and Elivs get up to adventures together. Rose and Elvis are starting to gel as Rose learns more about the magical world she didn't know existed. She meets more friends and family and gets her own challenges to complete. I was a little bored in the middle and found myself getting distracted from reading, which was telling me I wasn't that into the book. But I was interested again closer to the end.
I do have to say thought I really enjoyed Sarah and Michael's author notes at the end.
Another successful outing for the Beaufont series as Rose comes into her power and learns exactly how the world of magic works. The unusual way the Noffke series all works makes them all slightly normal even in a world of magic whilst making then very entertaining and enjoyable. Great work again and another satified reader.
Rose and Elvis have a few missions to run before they can face their next witch. They have to go on a gnome quest and help a couple fall in love to get all the ingredients to stop a witch and kill his zombies. Another fun entry to the series and I am looking forward to more Rose, Elvis and the Beaufonts.
So much fun and banter plus learning and growing and becoming themselves so happy I bought the whole series do far as can happily skipped from book to book till I crash at the end wanting more excellent series check out the rest they’re just as brilliant if you haven’t already woo hoo next book
Another extremely entertaining and enjoyable book in this series!!!!
Congratulations to Sarah Noffke and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
This 2nd book in the series did not disappoint and was a fun read! I love how Rose is such a kickass girl and willing to take on any challenge. It's so fun reading about someone coming into their own power! I can't wait for the next book in the series, I can't wait to see what happens. I just LOVE Elvis!
Suddenly magical by Sarah noffke. Omg the adventure, mystery, and laughable moments in this book were just awesome. The one liners from Elvis, the dragon, and also father time and mother nature present themselves as hippies that always seem stoned and not there one moment but totally there the next. Just give me the next book already
It takes a lot to get me to sit down for hours to read a book. You have delivered thus far and I see no evidence that this will change, Bravo and by the way, Congratulations on your pending nuptials.
Rose was a totally sheltered child . Actually more than sheltered, she was kept isolated by her mother. Now she has discovered her magical side and is learning how to battle the bad guys.
A great storyline with believable characters with a great side character who provides humour in plenty. A really good story which carries the reader along with the author .
Rose and Elvis, her Chinese Dragon, but on adventures to be able to stop a Necromancer who is threatening LA. So many adventures to do before the stand off.
These stories go from serious to very funny in the blink of an eye and I have laughed out loud on many an occasion. My kids think I'm nuts! Such great entertainment and I can't wait to see where this story goes.
Another outstanding addition to the Beaumont universe. Rose and Elvis continue to grow against seemingly impossible odds and support each other as an equal team. Can't wait for the next.
I am enjoying this series with the very likeable female character, and her trusty Chinese dragon. Love the fact that even though other characters from her series are in it, you are not lost if you have not read the others. I know, because this is my first introduction to these authors. Highly recommend.
Brilliant, The Beaufonts are back, this is the second book in this storyline. It`s great to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, I love Elvis he is hilarious. ROLL ON BOOK THREE.
